Ruined Future: The Bad Ending

“Truth is not Reality.. But Reality is the Truth.â€

105f25fa24.jpg

Abstract: So Journey of the Truant God was a complete failure. Hack and Slash wasn't going to work, because of all the things that had to be put in it. However, I've been working on this project on the side, which as gotten a good reputation among my small group of friends. Ruined Future is the sequel to a prequel game.
Genre: RPG
Game Progression: The Game is more than an hour long, but it also has two maps completed, and currently working on the third.
Recruitment: Someone to check my grammar, please. Other than that, someone to help me give new ideas.

Story:
The End of the Sengoku Period. In 234 AD, Hydra Phantom succeeded in bringing back Xion, the Ultima God of Destruction, and broke the world apart into different pieces. However, he lost control of Xion, and Xion destroyed his soul, before going back to their resting place. Humanity, still ravaged by the events, rebuilt themselves with new traditions. Afterwards, they renamed their countries, or what was left of them. To the southwest, was the small island of Gingalain, to the east, the City of Quartz and the City of Ruby. To the northwest, the City of Sapphire, and finally, in the north, was the City of Diamond.

Humanity lived in peace for one hundred years. However, the Immortal King, known as Siegfried Pluto, and his Knights of the Round Table, invaded other lands, and took them as his own. With the three cities under his domain, he named the land the "Granite Empire". Then, he turned his attention to the Goddesses, the mediums of the World's Balance, and their sacred treasures. That's where the story begins.

The game as it stands is 8 hours long, or so.

Chapter Prologue: The Priestess of Quartz- Complete!

Chapter One: Daughter of An Evil Man- Complete!

Chapter Two: The Federation- Complete!

Chapter Four: The Final Fight Against the King of Kings- Complete!

Chapter Five: Camelot- Complete!

Ruined Future has been updated with the following

  • Story Updated
  • New Events Updated
  • Ruby is Unlocked! You can now do 3/4th's of Ruby's story.

Though, there's still no extra classes. I'm still deciding those.

Wow, those portraits look really pretty! I like your windowskin border a lot too. Shefa sounds really interesting! I'm intrigued by the idea of a terminally ill villain. It's not the sort of thing that you see very often. Lucretia also sounds cool. I have to wonder why Shefa hates her so much. The dialogue looks to be well-written from the screenshots.

I'll give this demo a try once I'm done with another one I agreed to play! I am unfortunately a bit behind on everything lately.

Thanks! I tend to use it for all my RPGs. Also, thank you about Shefa. She's one of the interesting and better characters of this game. Lucretia is also my favorite character too! .. Well, out of those in creation.

Please do. Give me your thoughts and regards!

I've been busy.

The thing is still going on, but if you want to know the synopsis:

Xane and Lucretia(by poll demands) go to Sakura Village and learn a bit about each other. However, their fun is cut short by the Empire and a jealous clingy girl..

Characters

16c4021fc3.png

??? Yoritoki

A young girl who is determined to ruin the Sakura Festival for Xane and Lucretia. She goes to every Sakura Festival each year, though the residents don't know her name, as she is from another land. Clingy to others, while malevolent to Xane and Lucretia. The main antagonist of the event.

It is revealed that she is Mordred without her armor on.

This looks interesting, but I have to ask;

Are all these portraits confirmed to be used?

I see the first characters are custom artwork and look really nice, but the second batch of portraits look like the RTP edits and the style and quality really clash. Are these official, or are they placeholders?

(I've been lurking alot around this topic to keep up to date btw~)

They're all official. Originally, I had all RTP, but their portraits are different mainly because 1. I needed more sprites to use, and 2. Most of them looked really cool, and I didn't have enough for all the characters I needed in either format. If it disuades you from playing the game, I do understand.

Aww thanks. I appreciate your dedication.

Okay so,

I've been getting a lot of talk about not everything being RTP. That's cool and all, and from you guys' prompts, I wanted to see whether I should keep it the way it is, or change it all to RTP. Because the other pack I need(it costs money) can't be accessed to me right now, so having the other style is out of the question.

So, here's a strawpoll:

http://strawpoll.me/6969167

and if you vote the third answer, that essentially saying yes to the first answer

New updates for everyone! Here's what we got:

  • All the main characters have RTP designs. Bosses(Percival, Lamorak and Kay) have their old designs. Unless someone is willing to donate RTP designs for them.
  • That Person's Name Is, the regular boss theme(For bosses like Lamorak, Kay and Percival) has been replaced with Condemnation from Fire Emblem Fates. Bosses like Lancelot and Anna have their custom themes.
  • Valentines Day event is permanent for the game. It's my treat to you guys for being so late.

Here are the new designs.

Sempronia is the cutest girl ever. <3

I've been meaning to get around to streaming this but haven't had the time. Are there any other significant changes to the game besides changing the character designs/themes, or would playing the old game be okay?

Nope. The old game is still up to play, I haven't updated it yet, so it's fine.

The only thing between this old update and the upcoming new one is the graphics and valentines. That's it really.

alRIGHTY i took a couple hours out of my week to play this game and Boy Do I Have Some Feedback For You, haha

i mostly note things i didn't like or that didn't particularly make sense, BUT that doesn't mean i didn't like it, it's just easier to note criticism unfortunately. i have an overall at the end, so don't lose hope!

& of course if you don't care about whatever i say you never have to incorporate any of the suggestions, they're just suggestions for you to think about!

- Technical

it's a little worldbreaking to see the blip of the house before the intro, you might want to place the starting position in a blacked-out map and move the character to the house map after the intro
the 400g in the chest in the town at the beginning is so helpful it's almost mandatory
it's not necessary to have blackouts before cutscenes, i don't think? it might be a system thing though, so i'm not sure
the guard in the fight with the blue-haired lady has a shadow that's hovering in midair
why is the goddess' servant not in the battle too ? i heard something about him being injured after the fact, but it would be helpful to hear beforehand
there's a quick little blip of the dark-haired man on the map after talking with the goddess in the inn
where did the goddess' servant go? he seems to have just disappeared; later we find out where he went, but it would make more sense for him to say where he's gonna go before he leaves and then give the status report upon coming back; he keeps disappearing without an explanation (or a throwaway line explanation as an afterthought), and it would be better to either cut him out or send him away for a while
it feels weird to have miyasaki's full name everywhere when everyone else just has their first name
why is there a switch in the jail of lancelot's castle? feels vaguely gimmicky
how did lancelot & company abscond, as well as the general's later? did xane's party just let them go?
you can go to the boulderneck valley before getting the pink-haired character in your party
you can't go into some of the stores and it's a little weird to have it as a door but not be able to go in (i'm not sure if this is planned to be in the endgame or just a demo thing, but it's something i noticed)
the icons are weird and don't make any sense (a hammer for the 'blinded' state) [later edit: actually, this may be my fault, if you don't replicate it on your end it's because my rtf is using a different iconset]
you can go into the ruby base before talking to the queen
i didn't pick up that the goddess wasn't an actual goddess and was only human until way late in the game, it might be nice to throw a line in there early on that mentions it (unless i totally glazed over it, haha)

- Dialogue

you keep using .. as an ellipsis instead of ... though occasionally you'll use ...
it's a little annoying to have to sit through the pauses of dialogue (especially when you cant fast-forward them if you lose and have to retry)
the dialogue with black-haired blue-eyed man repeats, could potentially be worldbreaking
the dialogue with the nun in the church the first time feels stilted

- Spelling/Grammar

intro "dammit all" should be "damn it all"
dialogue with top right guard, "negociated" should be "negotiated"
dialogue with eyepatched person, "they're some" should be "there are some"; no comma between "people" and "won't"; no comma between "people" and "if we"
dialogue with goddess, "your right" should be "you're right"
dialogue with blue-haired girl, "oppertune" should be "opportune"; "oppertunity" should be "opportunity"; "Man, your special" should be "Man, you're special"; "It's a win win!" should be "It's a win-win!"; "for the killings of a girl" should be "for the killing of a girl"
dialogue with goddess at town, "its Sempronia" should be "it's Sempronia"; "They're four countries" should be "There are four countries"; "indeed, its true" should be "indeed, it's true"
lots of commas in places they shouldn't be
dialogue with governor "milita" should be "militia"; "inturrupt" should be "interrupt"; "they're wanted posters" should be "there are wanted posters"; "If you do not, we have orders from Lord Siegfried to search, burn, and destroy this entire village, if you do not comply." doesn't need both the first and last phrase, just one or the other
dialogue with percival, "on how many damages" should be "at how many damages", "wishes and end" should be "wishes an end", "in order to full be human" should be "in order to fully be human"
percival's battle almost-win message, "I was careless?" should probably be "I was careless."
dialogue after percival dies, "subbordinates" should be "subordinates"
dialogue in throne room, "resistence" should be "resistance"
menu, goddess' class listed as "priestiess," should be "priestess"
dialogue with du lac, "i will await for you" should be "i will wait for you"
dialogue after defeating the men of righteousness, "if its not even used" should be "if it's not even used"
dialogue in percival's room: "we has humans" should be "we as humans"; after battle, "your righteous" should be "your righteousness"
dialogue with governor for boat: "now, if you excuse us" should be "now, if you'll excuse us"
dialogue with alex at boat: "more help the better" should be "the more help the better"
dialogue in boat: "monsters have run rampant across everywhere" should be "monsters have run rampant everywhere"; "That dudes one heck of a coward" should be "That dude's one heck of a coward"
dialogue with bors: "how fare your search" should be "how fares your search"; "I will cut ties from this manner" doesn't make any sense, maybe "I will cut ties from your search" or something similar ?; "Its fine. You may call me Xane" should be "It's fine. You may call me Xane"
dialogue with artemis: "that's all their is to it" should be "that's all there is to it"
dialogue after artemis: "Siegfried much be" should be "Siegfried must be"
dialogue when entering ruby kingdom: "Though she submittted" should be "though she submitted"
dialogue with ruby queen: "situation here, mad'am?" should be "situation here, ma'am?" or "situation here, madam?", "the Empire has confirmed me" should be "the Empire has confined me"
dialogue with moon goddess: "say I'm the affiliated with" should be "say I'm affiliated with"; "If you wish to inurrupt" should be "If you wish to interrupt"; "By driving away the Empire" should be "Driving away the Empire"
books in ruby base: "No one knows why its colored" should be "No one knows why it's colored"; "She will not inturrupt my progress" should be "She will not interrupt my progress"; "His persistency is annoying me" should be "His persistence is annoying me"
dialogue with general: "told be General Tristan" should be "told by General Tristan"; "its good for magical fuel" should be "it's good for magical fuel"
dialogue with general after fight: "It's cureable" should be "It's curable"
battle things: "Cure" descrip says "poison and paralsys" should be "poison and paralysis"; "No Shadow Kick" and "Yoroidoshi" descrip says "defense ignoring damage," should probably be "damage ignoring defense"; skills 11, 20-21, 41-48, 82, 97, 102, 107, 112, 116, 118-120, 126 the verb (increase, boost, grant, etc) should have an S after it
armors: "cotton robe" descrip says "made of thick cotten" should be "made of thick cotton"; "talisman of light" descrip says "dwell in this talisman" should be "dwells in this talisman"

- Ambient Gameplay

the world is nicely fleshed out
i actively enjoy playing the game

- Mapping

very bare-bones maps, especially inside
i personally don't like it when you can stand on the stools, but that's just me
door into city of elm has black spots around it that feel a little weird
i went to get the chests in the dungeon map in boulderneck valley & most of them had stuff that was nice, but not really worth the dozen or so monsters i had to fight to get to them

- Battles

pretty difficult at the beginning, lots of misses on my part with default blade (war pick is much better)
my potion only recovered 168 hp in battle & it says it recovers 500 ? [later edit: i think the amnt it heals goes up each level? if so, i like that, but put it in the descrip of the item]
boulderneck valley: because of how much damage enemies do vs how much health they have & how much hp potions heal, every round means using a potion once im done and im running out of potions fast, would recommend more puppets & less orcs (unless im just getting substantially unlucky, haha); once i leveled up to l3 it felt a lot more balanced
once you get in the swing of things and have the goddess, the constant judgement between healing and attacking makes for a REALLY good battle system
bosses' constant healing is annoying, but makes for interesting battles
the battles in the castle totally made sense; it made perfect sense for me to be fighting guards & didn't feel gimmicky
totally didn't realize that poison kept hurting me as i was walking around, which was a pretty big shock when i saw everyone in my party had 100hp, BUT the fact that you rewarded enough gold for me to go get a bunch of antidote & potions was really good
dark puppets are WAY too resilient to put 4 of them in one group, it took me about seven minutes to get through ONE of the four and i used easily 20 potions, it ended up being a half hour battle that got repetitive and frustrating; [later edit, I learned to use "saint" to get rid of them much more quickly, but it's still about a 10min battle and uses a LOT of potions] [later edit x2, i saw that fire hurts them a LOT, but to me it made sense to use "holy" magic on a "dark" puppet, so just some food for thought]

-Music

title screen is very nice, fitting
game over music is nice
elm music has a good feeling of mystery
your battle music doesn't loop & it would be nice if it did (or you could just cut off the blank space at the end to minimize it)
quartz' town music is really nice

Personally, it took me 4:05 to finish

Overall:
I thought this was a really good game! It was interesting, and I really liked the idea of naming each kingdom after a stone, that was a good touch. Your characters are memorable, and your battles, while occasionally a little repetitive, aren't overly difficult or annoying once you get past about l3. Gameplay is pretty good, though the payoff for getting chests isn't really worth fighting through all the enemies. Your storyline is pretty solid, and I was invested in where the story was going, which is nice. I know I put a lot in the spelling/grammar category, but it's mostly little fixes, and I always understood what you were trying to say, so it didn't completely detract from the experience.  Overall, I'm definitely interested and will definitely keep up with this game. :)

making a followup post; mods pls no hurt

alRIGHTY i took a couple hours out of my week to play this game and Boy Do I Have Some Feedback For You, haha

i mostly note things i didn't like or that didn't particularly make sense, BUT that doesn't mean i didn't like it, it's just easier to note criticism unfortunately. i have an overall at the end, so don't lose hope!

& of course if you don't care about whatever i say you never have to incorporate any of the suggestions, they're just suggestions for you to think about!

Personally, it took me 4:05 to finish

- Technical

it's a little worldbreaking to see the blip of the house before the intro, you might want to place the starting position in a blacked-out map and move the character to the house map after the intro

the 400g in the chest in the town at the beginning is so helpful it's almost mandatory

it's not necessary to have blackouts before cutscenes, i don't think? it might be a system thing though, so i'm not sure

the guard in the fight with the blue-haired lady has a shadow that's hovering in midair

why is the goddess' servant not in the battle too ? i heard something about him being injured after the fact, but it would be helpful to hear beforehand

there's a quick little blip of the dark-haired man on the map after talking with the goddess in the inn

where did the goddess' servant go? he seems to have just disappeared; later we find out where he went, but it would make more sense for him to say where he's gonna go before he leaves and then give the status report upon coming back; he keeps disappearing without an explanation (or a throwaway line explanation as an afterthought), and it would be better to either cut him out or send him away for a while

it feels weird to have miyasaki's full name everywhere when everyone else just has their first name

why is there a switch in the jail of lancelot's castle? feels vaguely gimmicky

how did lancelot & company abscond, as well as the general's later? did xane's party just let them go?

you can go to the boulderneck valley before getting the pink-haired character in your party

you can't go into some of the stores and it's a little weird to have it as a door but not be able to go in (i'm not sure if this is planned to be in the endgame or just a demo thing, but it's something i noticed)

the icons are weird and don't make any sense (a hammer for the 'blinded' state) [later edit: actually, this may be my fault, if you don't replicate it on your end it's because my rtf is using a different iconset]

you can go into the ruby base before talking to the queen

i didn't pick up that the goddess wasn't an actual goddess and was only human until way late in the game, it might be nice to throw a line in there early on that mentions it (unless i totally glazed over it, haha)

  • Okay.
  • That's the point.
  • I use them to help draw the scene, and prepare the stage. Like, if you're watching a play, or something
  • c65765083f.pngNot sure what soldier i used, but this is a good example. I can't change that.
  • Alex's reason for not fighting is a plot point, and thus not a playable character. I've mentioned him being injured too, so there's that.
  • Again, plot point. It's not relevant of where he goes, but he will disappear quite often. I've changed it so characters will wonder where he went.
  • Miyasaki's name is japanese, and such uses all of his name. This has been changed in the recent version, though.
  • I didn't have a place to put it!
  • They fled, using magic and what nots. Invoking the trope "They got away again!"
  • .. Damn. Welp.
  • Not everything is accessable, but you wouldn't want someone walking into your house, right? that's the reason i'm using.
  • The icon set is fucked to hell and back. I'm working on it
  • Fixed.
  • Will throw that in.

- Dialogue

you keep using .. as an ellipsis instead of ... though occasionally you'll use ...

it's a little annoying to have to sit through the pauses of dialogue (especially when you cant fast-forward them if you lose and have to retry)

the dialogue with black-haired blue-eyed man repeats, could potentially be worldbreaking

the dialogue with the nun in the church the first time feels stilted

I can fix that.

Um..? Not sure what you- Wait I know. It's for dialogue purposes, and how people would speak, I guess. Even characters have to breathe!

Who? Explain.

I'll fix it.

- Spelling/Grammar

I was expecting mistakes, so I'll fix them soon.

- Ambient Gameplay

the world is nicely fleshed out

i actively enjoy playing the game

Thanks!

- Mapping

very bare-bones maps, especially inside

i personally don't like it when you can stand on the stools, but that's just me

door into city of elm has black spots around it that feel a little weird

i went to get the chests in the dungeon map in boulderneck valley & most of them had stuff that was nice, but not really worth the dozen or so monsters i had to fight to get to them

I'm bad at map making, sue me.

well I can't use chairs so..

I can fix it.

That's the point of the map. I can change it if I got enough complaints..

- Battles

pretty difficult at the beginning, lots of misses on my part with default blade (war pick is much better)

my potion only recovered 168 hp in battle & it says it recovers 500 ? [later edit: i think the amnt it heals goes up each level? if so, i like that, but put it in the descrip of the item]

boulderneck valley: because of how much damage enemies do vs how much health they have & how much hp potions heal, every round means using a potion once im done and im running out of potions fast, would recommend more puppets & less orcs (unless im just getting substantially unlucky, haha); once i leveled up to l3 it felt a lot more balanced

Xane's custom weapon is the Spear. It misses a lot though.

I've got to fix the items. Thanks for telling me.

I'll make the lower the encounter rates@bold

Danke!

I try to reward players as much as I can. I a little generous.

I'll fix it so they're both weak to holy and fire. They're weak to fire because puppets burn easily.

-Music

title screen is very nice, fitting

game over music is nice

elm music has a good feeling of mystery

your battle music doesn't loop & it would be nice if it did (or you could just cut off the blank space at the end to minimize it)

quartz' town music is really nice

Anything else you liked?

A bit late, but I don't mind beta-testing when I have free time~

I also noticed all the bust updates. I like how the style blends better now. It makes the characters actually look better together.

I'm glad your managing to keep progression on your game though :D

Awesome! I'll post the link soon!

It was an executive decision, mainly by me. All the main character busts have changed, but minor villains are still the same, except a few.
