  1. I seriously need to look up how to properly make them. I could do parallax types, but not. Playing around with tilesets are fun, though. Ah well, I've switch to working on skills and their animations, and fixing up any info I may have forgotten. Oh, and I need to learn the formulas, too. Lots of things to learn now. Welp, off to do research!

EDIT: Been forever, but I'm working on my maps, since I'm trying to fix an art program I've been using on a separate project. I'm having to redo most of the maps I'e transferred from VX to Ace. I had to research how to do it, and it wasn't as hard as I thought. I just had to rename the file type name to match Ace's, and it worked. The more time-consuming part is matching the maps. I had realized that some of the VX maps I was going to transfer were already done in Ace, so I had to leave them alone. The ones I did transfer, I'm going to have to redo them with new tilesets. That'll be fun.

  2. persona_q_wallpaper_by_xerlientt-d7lbvtz.jpg

Warning: You might want to at least play Persona 3 or 4 to fully understand some terms that I will be telling in my little review xD

    STORY:

Persona Q Shadow of Labyrinth has one of the best stories I have ever encountered in my long running JRPG encounters (As expected from a Persona Game). Persona Q is about a girl named Rei and his "friend" Zen as they wander throughout the alternate version of Yasogami High in an attempt to discover it`s secrets and to find their lost memories. But wait, where did the cast of Persona 3 and Persona 4 comes in? Well they are included in the game (And they will help Rei and Zen) but the story isn`t really focused on them, it is centered throughout the amnesia duo (Rei and Zen, yes they have amnesia...) but do not fret, the interactions between Persona 3 and 4 characters are really hilarious and memorable(Sadly you need to play Persona 3 and 4 to get the gist of their conversations since they will most likely use each game`s terms and some bit of story). The game is relatively long and the story gets bumpier and bumpier until you reach the final parts of the game where a lot of shocking revelations will happen~

    GAMEPLAY:

Ever played Etrian Odyssey before? How about the previous Persona 3 and 4 games? (Persona 1 and 2 isn`t really strongly mentioned in this game xD) Well if you didn`t played any of them that is okay but it will surely give the exciting feeling for those who played those games. Persona Q is a 1st person dungeon crawler game which is heavily inspired by the Etrian Odyssey series with a touch of Persona. The player is tasked to complete labyrinths in order to proceed through the story and each labyrinth has a theme which is clearly shown with wonderful 3d graphics and shadows. The battle system is turn based, you can choose 5 active party members and 1 navigator (each character has it`s own set of unique characteristics, skills and weaknesses) and place them either in the front or back row (front row receives full damage and is most likely to be targeted by enemies). In each battle, you can use "Leader Skills" (As long as you have the needed cost) which can do various effects depending on your navigator and her persona. Unlike the Persona games (3 and 4), everyone is a "wildcard" which enables them to equip a sub-persona to increase the selection of skills they can use (which your main persona can only wield a few skills on it`s list) and also forms a temporary barrier (HP and SP) that will be depleted first before your real HP and SP. These temporary HP and SP is restored after every battle which makes them very helpful to conserve your precious HP and SP. There are also various facilities that can be used: An equipment shop, the velvet room (where you can fuse, summon and do various stuff concerning personas), the nurse`s office (where you heal your wounded characters) and some various school locations that can be accessed via "Stroll". The "Stroll" option (once it is available) enables you to see various events that ties all the characters together and do either a serious or a hilarious scenario (which most of the time, it is hilarious xD). Navigating through the labyrinths is first person and you must rely on your logic, puzzle solving brains to past most of the dungeons. Your navigator can also provide helpful info about your current location and situation from time to time. Defeating the labyrinth`s boss will either unlock the next labyrinth or if you are already at the last labyrinth, it will clear the game~

    MUSIC:

No doubt, the Persona series (yes, even Persona 1 and 2) has some very rad tunes that most people will enjoy and Persona Q isn`t an exemption. The soundtrack of Persona Q really lives up from it`s origin with the tracks "Maze of Life" (The opening of the game) and "Light the Fire Up in the Night: (The battle theme which has 2 versions, P3 and P4 versions) that will surely make you want to play those tracks again and again~

    FUN FACTOR:

The fun factor of this game lies upon the battle system and the character interactions. Exploring the labyrinths is also fun as long as you don`t get carried away and challenge an F.O.E. (Similar to Etrian Odyssey in which this particular enemy that you can see in the maze is not your regular customer. They are much stronger than the regular dungeon monsters and they also serve as puzzle elements in which you must avoid them if you are not strong enough to beat them) to a duel and you realized that all of your characters are dead. Challenge is fun but don`t overdo it~

    REPLAYABILITY:

Yes, this game has a new game plus which carries all your personas, money, level and items. But the game has two sides, the Persona 3 and Persona 4. The difference between the two are: Some character interactions, some side quests, 1st dungeon/ labyrinth and of course perspective. Picking either side in your first playthrough relies on who`s your favorite side or who`s side you are much more interested with. However, some unlockables can only be accessed if you played both sides which requires you playing at least twice~ ^~^ The secret boss (which is harder than the final boss as some people said) is one example that you can unlock after clearing both sides (P3 and P4 side)\ which adds a few hours in your adventure ^~^

    SCORE:

    9 cats out of 10

    Pros:

    -Very good battle system

-Vast amount of Sub Personas to use

-Customize character`s skills with skill cards

-Unexpected course of events in the story~

-Detailed and well themed labyrinths (Love the 3rd labyrinth~)

-P3 and P4 interactions are really funny and memorable

-Auto-mapping feature for the lazy or not so good map drawers

    Cons:

    -Kinda grindy

-You must trust your map drawing capability to survive

-Extremely difficult in higher difficulty settings

    -Only 5 dungeons to explore

-Need to play P3 and p4 to understand some character interactions (Like why does Teddie like to score with the girls? xD)

-There is one little combo that makes the game extremely easy, it can kill most of the bosses on one swoop if it is done correctly~ *cough Shura Tensei*

  3. I think I’m trying to do too much...

The realization came this morning when my 3rd alarm went off at 5:30AM, and was angry at myself for sleeping in. Don’t get me wrong, I know sleep is important and love it dearly, but only when it doesn’t come in between me and my projects!

In this chapter of my life, days are spent almost entirely either at work (including a commute) or being husband/dad to my wife/2-year-old son. Once I’ve finished work, afternoon activities, dinner, bedtime routine, and cleanup, most of the minutes between 5:30AM and 8:30PM have been spoken for. Several months ago, I discovered that the best time for me to write music is in the early morning before people are up, so I got in to the habit of rising at about 3:30AM to get a couple hours of studio time before the world stirs from its slumber.

So this February, I have about 2 hours a day (as long as I don’t keep sleeping in) to get some REAL work done. Current projects include (in order of priority):

    • A hack-and-slash endless arena for Android (being released this weekend, woot!)
    • Some 8-bit tracks for a couple fellow VXAce community developers
    • A “Horror RPG†sound design package for all you horror game devs out there (seems to be a popular genre at the moment, and making creepy sounds has been SO fun, so far).
    • My own RPG Project (workingly titled “Planetary Infiltration"), including learning a little Ruby scripting just for fun (and more autonomy on my part)

With so little time, how can I eke a little more time out of the day to get this all done in an efficient manner? I realized the other day that I spend about 1-1.5 hour in the back of a car all day. That’s a pretty good chunk of time, so I’ve moved this preliminary stage of game development exclusively to my phone. As I started work on an “Event Flow†spreadsheet (fourth “development spreadsheetâ€, however, I was troubled with the thought of “How much preparation is too much?†So far I have 2 docs and 4 spreadsheets detailing different aspects of my game (summary, asset list, balancing, etc, etc, etc...) At what time am I just spinning my tires, and should just wait until I make computer time on this thing a priority?

So for any of you still with me, how much work do you do planning, designing, and thinking about your game before you put your metaphorical pens to paper and get into the nitty gritty of RPG Maker?

  4. If you're seeing this, then I got the Blog system right. Good for me :)

I'm setting up this blog so I can give the community some updates on my own RPG Projects. The first one is the stereotypical learner project, although I have a decent subject for it. It's set in D&D's Forgotten Realms and has an homage to the 80s era D&D cartoon show. It'll be called "Marcie of the Sundering" and it'll be the first project I'll share with you. (It's a fanwork, of course. Totally non-commercial)

Word of warning though, if you wanted to see a quality and squeaky clean game, keep looking. I'm doing this to learn the program, and because of it, it's going to be quite sketchy at places. Especially in the graphics as I learn Tileset editing and Layers. They're also going to be a long list of to-dos that I could apprecaite some help on as well.

What I learn and develop in this project will go into my second and first official IP, Revolver Princess. I'll tell you more about that later.

I really appreciate all the assistance you all have given me, and I hope that this blog will give me the venue to give back to the community. Marcie's game is moving along quite nicely even though I'm about 75% through the prologue, and I'll give you the first WIP when I get to the point where I can start on the actual game.

Looking forward to hearing from all of you.

Some of you have seen our resident Olympian/artist/sensei When Bugs Roams Ur House put up links to her livestream, done on the hosting platform join.me, to showcase her illustrations and drawing techniques in real time. Firstly, we'd like to congratulate her for her initiative and selflessness in helping the community expand on their artistic technique, and we'd also like to take this opportunity to offer a new service to everyone:

I present to you, Pantheon Live!

Pantheon Live! is a new, livestreaming service offered free of charge by us, The Olypmians of The Pantheon, to showcase our artistic abilities in real time, and to interact with members of the community, giving them advice and illustration tips, or demonstrations, for their very own eyes. Requests will be taken, and chat features will be fully implemented to accommodate a dynamic learning experience unlike traditional tutorials, both graphic or video.

Likewise, we also seek your advice and feedback for this massive project, as we'd like to gather interest for the following sessions:

    1. Spectre's Live Armor Tutorial Sessions

Please comment below to indicate interest, and we will accommodate interested participants accordingly, while providing timings available to the public. Grab your seats while you can, folks, because each session can only accommodate a maximum of 10 viewers. Should interest be sufficient, or donations received, I may volunteer to purchase premium networking capabilities, expanding our capacity to 25 participants.

    Rules for Attending Sessions

    • Always identify yourself via chat or changing your in-session username. Failure to do so will result in your requests being ignored.
    • No heckling of the host/artist. Failure to comply will result in immediate removal.
    • The artist's decisions are respective of the current session, and all decisions made by the artist are final.
    • Unless express permission is given, please do not record videos of the session.
    • All work in the session are copyright of the respective host/artist. Viewers cannot claim ownership of these works except with the express permission of the artist.
    • If you need to contact the artist, feel free to use the forum PMs or alternative contacts in The Pantheon's thread (in the Art Forum).

    FAQ

    Q: How do I enter a session?

A: Closer to the time of the session (approx. 1-2 hours before the start of the session) the artist/host will share a 9-digit code: e.g. join.me/123-456-789. Simply enter the full URL into your internet browser, or enter the code into your join.me client, and you'll be presented with a view of the artist's screen in real time. It's that simple.

    Q: I don't hear any sound.

A: Microphone functionality is only available for join.me Pro Clients. As of 11th Feb 2015, we do not have access to pro clients.

You are welcome, however, to use the in-built chat functionality to communicate with other viewers and the host.

Q: When will the sessions be, and for how long will they last?

A: Typically, sessions will be hosted on either Friday or Saturday evenings, at around 9:00 - 11:00 PM EST (UST/GMT -5). These sessions will last an average of 2-3 hours, but may take longer if there is sufficient interest.

Q: I can't enter the session! How is this possible?

A: Either you have arrived at a closed session (i.e. the timeslot has expired or the session is closed by the original caster), or the session is at maximum capacity - i.e. 10 viewers. Rest assured, however, should you have any grievances regarding these sessions, feel free to PM Spectre (me) to request for a re-broadcast or alternative session timings.

Q: I may not be available for the session. Is there a way to reschedule?

A: Depending on the service provided - e.g. live sketches, some sessions may not be rescheduled. However, should there be sufficient interest or lack of interest on a fixed timing, a session may be postponed or rescheduled to a more appropriate time and date.

Q: I was already in a session, but the session froze up.

A: Refresh the page with your session on - this is a known bug that may occur midway through the livestream, and is easily resolvable by refreshing the page. If that does not resolve the issue, please check your internet connection.

Q: How frequently do these sessions take place?

A: With the exception of private tutoring, sessions typically take place once a week or once a fortnight. Stay tuned to The Pantheon's Forum Page and Blog (here!) for any updates regarding Session Availability and Timings.

Q: I am not an Olympian. Can I create a session?

A: By all means, go ahead.

However, do note that without the express notice from The Pantheon, we will not assist you in advertising for your session, nor will the content created be protected under The Pantheon's intellectual property rules, or be classified as Pantheon-sanctioned.

Q: Can I enter more than one session at once?

A: While Pantheon-sanctioned sessions do not occur simultaneously, yes, you can. Simply key one 9-digit code into one tab and another into a separate tab.

Q: Can I request for private tutoring, live?

A: Yes. Please arrange this with the respective Olympian in a PM or email.

With that, do respond should you be interested in our aforementioned two programs, and the details will be posted shortly regarding session availability. Thanks again!

So i never made blog before. guess i just wrote about my story be great if someone leaves a comment on the story or just reads it

    welcome any critique.

    Story Title

    -Alijaria, Legacy of Origin

Plot- The story focuses on an ancient race called the Alijarin's,who were gifted the power of magic by the seven great spirits of Divinity.

The Alijarin's Returned to the the world with the intention of helping humanity with this new found power.

But they failed, the rest of humanity saw the opportunity to use this new power not to save people from illness and famine

but to conquer the world. Each kingdom fought desperately forcing the Alijarin's that came for peace to fight alongside them

with this new destructive power it didn't take long for the world to be brought to the edge of complete destruction.

    Origins destruction-

The spirit Origin one of the seven Divinity grew Hateful of humanity appetite for destruction and their lust for war.

With the power of magic they now even threaten the great spirits that had kept a distance from humanity.

Origin began his campaign of extermination seeking to rid the world of human's. the Alijarin's that had been betrayed by the people, join Origin

as he crushed the kingdoms of the world while liberating his followers.humanity was hopelessly out matched they feared the end was near.

As origin approached , The Clan of Alijarin's known as Ferrari saw the horror of the war and couldn't turn their back on the people they had once sought to

protect. they chose to join the remaining humans and try to put an end to the war the Ferrari created a power spear of Mana able to dispel

the barrier protecting origin.Killing their own kind as they made there way to origins door.In this final fight the Ferrari destroyed Origins body and sealed his mind and soul with in Domain of the spirits. With Origin gone the Alijarin's that were left from the war had to face judgment by the rest of the human race.

    Main-story-

The story focuses on the Main character named Asura and her younger sister Altesa, who are both blood descendants of the Alijarin's except Atlesa is only Alijarin on her mother side while her father is a normal human. Asura and Altesa were separated at a young age after their mother passed away. Asura goes to school in a country called Hiyorta where she studied and practice her use.of magic in peace. Atlesa and the king sends her aid in search of her older sister in the far west and believe she may be the only one that can turn the tide of the war.

the empires real goal is revive origin and take over the world in order to do this they need to break the 4 seals of the ancients. One of these seals is in the kingdom they lost.

----(reason for Asura) they need Asura to open an ancient gate built by the Alijarin's to gain a powerful weapon.(Asura is a full blood Alijarin)

Hi again! Sorry for taking so long. Life caught up to me. Anyway,

    • I fixed the intro
    • Added 3 dungeons
    • added several scripts
    • added Macho's cut seen

    Link:https://www.dropbox.com/s/0xn26lqb72ipopj/Dark%20Cloud%20RPG%20Maker%20edition%20v0.2.exe?dl=0

Have fun and remember to post any bugs you find! :)

PS: just to let you in on what I have left to do to complete the Demo version of the game:

    • I have to code most of the weapons so they upgrade into the new weapon *
    • I have to figure out how to create Dran's tower in the center of the map
    • I have to settle on the initial stats for each character
    • I have to code the Georama system into the game properly *
    • Figure out how to make elemental attachments increase the elemental power of the weapon.

Beyond this, I'm very pleased with how cooperative this is going.

Any questions? I will be more than happy to share what I plan to do with this game. Ask away!

And do you think I should make a Japanese and European version as well? If so, it will probably be made with a translator like google or something like that, so if you know of any good translator software or internet translation sites, please include it with your comments.

    * in the game, but doesn't do anything.

  7. Example HUD created using Pictures and Common Events.

    2qd3eid.png

The HUD BACKGROUND is ONE Image.

The SLIDERS make up THREE different Images.

The HUD FOREGROUND is ONE Image.

I realize, there is a Tutorial already written about creating a HUD using Common Events. It's a fantastic Tutorial that gives you a general idea of what you need to do, but it uses too many images and would only work if your Player took damage in multiples of 10s. I wanted a simple way to display actual percentage values instead of set numbers. As such, this Tutorial was born.

    FOR BEGINNERS {OR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE CURIOUS}

This Section creates a Visual HUD using Common Events from Scratch.

This Tutorial assumes you are able to Navigate through RPG Maker VX Ace, and that you already know how to Create Switches and Common Events. Any Questions should be posted in the Comments or Replies.

    OBJECTIVE OF THIS TUTORIAL

This Tutorial will show you how to create an HP Slider as an Example. From there you should be able to create your own MP Slider and any other Sliders or Images you would like to finish your HUD.

This Tutorial will NOT show you how to create the Example HUD displayed at the top of this post.

    OVERVIEW

Let's take a look at the HP and MP Slider already programmed into RPG Maker VX Ace. As you can see, there are 2 Slider Images and 1 Background Image. We are going to use these images to create our own Sliders.

    2qty4ol.png

    WHAT YOU'LL NEED

You will need the following Images to complete this Tutorial:

    • 1 Image for an HP Slider 34g3crl.png
    • 1 Image for an MP Slider 24fihpk.png
    • 1 Image for a HUD Background fmmikp.png

SAVING THE IMAGES TO YOUR HARD DRIVE

    To Save these Images:

    1. Click on each Image 34g3crl.png
    2. Select 15hc1t1.png
    3. This will open up a New Window with the Image
    4. RIGHT CLICK the Image and select "Save Image As" **

** The words "Save Image As" may be different depending on your Browser

    IMPORT THE IMAGES

Import the Images you just Saved into Resource Manager > Graphics/Pictures.

You can name these Images whatever you'd like, but I recommend calling them: HUD_HP, HUD_MP, HUD_Background.

This will allow you to easily organize these images.

    GETTING STARTED

Create 2 Switches named "Game Initialize", and "HUD: Toggle"

Create 3 Common Events named "Game Initialize", "HUD" and "HUD: Toggle"

General Settings for each Common Event

    • [Game Initialize] Common Event
      :) Trigger: NONE
    • [HUD] Common Event
      :) Trigger: PARALLEL PROCESS
      ;) Conditional Switch: GAME INITIALIZE
    • [HUD: Toggle] Common Event
      :) Trigger: NONE

    ABOUT EACH COMMON EVENT

 [ GAME INITIALIZE ] Common Event

This Common Event should be used in your Game to set any and all default settings. It should typically hold Switch and Variable data. In my Game, this Common Event is used to 1) Turn on the Game Initialize Switch 2) Set a Default Gender 3) Set a Default Game Mode 4) Set Default Settings for the HUD. You can use this Common Event to set all default values for your Game as well, but for now, you should only have the following 3 lines in this Common Event:

    • Control Switches: [0001: GAME INITIALIZE] = ON
    • Control Switches: [0002: HUD: Toggle] = ON
    • Call Common Event: [HUD: Toggle]

 [ HUD: TOGGLE ] Common Event

This Common Event will be called when you want to Toggle the HUD ON or OFF. Ideally, you would want to create an Options Scene that does this for you, but for the purposes of this Tutorial, we're going to create an Event that Toggles this Switch ON or OFF. If you add additional Images to your HUD, you should Initialize (Show Picture) and Delete (Erase Picture) them here.

    • Conditional Branch: Switch [0002: HUD: Toggle] == ON
      Show Picture: 99, 'HUD_HP', Upper Left (10,10), (100%, 100%), 255, Normal
      Show Picture: 98, 'HUD_Background', Upper Left (10,10), (100%, 100%), 255, Normal
    • Else
      Erase Picture: 99
      Erase Picture: 98
    • Branch End

[NOTE] The following information is Optional. Questions will be addressed in the Comments

The [HUD: Toggle] Common Event can get pretty extensive if you're using multiple images. You could always insert a quick Script snippet that will Show or Erase Images for you. An example of this would be:

    • Script: for n in 88..100 do
      screen.pictures[n].erase
      end

 [ HUD ] Common Event

This is the Common Event that will hold all of the necessary changes to the HUD, specifically the Slider Data. In the HUD, we won't be accessing the Background or Foreground Images (if you're using any). Instead, we will only change the Zoom Width% for the HP Slider.

    • Conditional Branch: Switch [0002: HUD: Toggle] == ON
      Comment: Calculate HP%
      Script: mhp = $game_party.members[0].mhp
      hp = $game_party.members[0].hp
      calculate = (hp * 100) / mhp
      screen.pictures[99].move(0, 10, 10, calculate, 100, 255, 0, 60)
      Branch End

Let's break down this Common Event

    1. Create a Conditional Branch that executes when Switch HUD: Toggle is ON.
    2. Uncheck the box labeled "Set handling when conditions do not apply".
We do not need to do anything if the Switch is OFF.
    3. Create a Comment that lets you know what this Script is going to do. I prefer Comments, because you can use them to describe your actions in great detail, and you can format them so they jump out at you. For Example:
      Comment: ==========================================
      CALCULATE HP%
      -------------------------------------------------------------------
Changes the Zoom Width % for the Picture
      ==========================================
    4. Insert the Script that calculates the HP values and changes the Zoom Width of the Picture
    5. [NOTE] If you would like to add additional Sliders, you will use the following Format:
Conditional Branch: Switch [0002: HUD: Toggle] == ON
      Comment: Calculate HP%
      Script: .....
      Comment: Calculate MP%
      Script: .....
      Branch End

Let's break down this Script that we've created

    • mhp - is a variable that retrieves the Maximum HP of Party Member #1
    • hp - is a variable that retrieves the Current HP of Party Member #1
    • calculate - is a variable that creates a percentage value based off Current and Maximum HP.
so far, we're just using Simple Math that we've learned in Elementary School
    • Lastly, we're going to MOVE the Screen Picture with the ID number 99 to the Zoom Width% determined by calculate.
      The format for screen.pictures is:
      screen.pictures[id].move(position, x, y, x-zoom, y-zoom, opacity, blend-type, wait)
id - in this case, the id is 99 (HUD_HP)
position - set to 0, which indicates the Top Left of the Screen.
      ([0] = Top Left, [1] = Center)
x - set to 10, this can be any x value on the screen
y - set to 10, this can be any y value on the screen
x-zoom - set to calculate. This will change the horizontal shape of our slider
y-zoom - set to 100. We do not want the vertical shape of our slider to change
opacity - set to 255. We would like for our slider to be visible.
      ([0] makes the slider invisible)
blend-type - set to 0. Changing this value will alter the overall color scheme of your Picture
      ([0] = Normal, [1] = Add, [2] = Subtract)
wait - set to 60. This is the standard wait time for Picture animation, but you can set this to any number.

    TESTING THE HUD

Personally, I like to have a separate MAP that I use to Test all Changes, named as EVENTS.

On your Test Map, Create 2 Events named "Game Initialize" and "Toggle HUD"

    2rwan9h.png

    ABOUT EACH EVENT

 [ GAME INITIALIZE ] Event

The Game Initialize Script should be an Invisible Event that executes as SOON as your Game Starts. Ideally, you would place this Script on your first Map. In this case, I'm also using this Event on an Event Test Map. This Event will ONLY EVER be 2 Lines long. It will call the Common Event: Game Initialize and then Kill itself. If you ever need to make changes to the start of your game, you should do so within the Game Initialize Common Event.

    GAME INITIALIZE EVENT SETTINGS

    • Name: Game Initialize
    • Graphic: None
    • Priority: Above Characters
    • Trigger: Autorun

    GAME INITIALIZE EVENT CONTENTS:

    • Call Common Event: Game Initialize
    • Erase Event

 [ TOGGLE HUD ] Event

This Event will test our HUD. We're going to create a little Dude that will Hurt us, Heal us, and Toggle the HUD. He (or she, or it) can be anything.

    TOGGLE HUD EVENT SETTINGS

    • Name: Toggle HUD
    • Graphic: {ANY}
    • Priority: Same as Characters
    • Trigger: Action Button

    TOGGLE EVENT CONTENTS:

    • Show Choices: Take Damage, Heal HP, Toggle HUD, Cancel
    • : WHEN [Take Damage]
      Change HP: Entire Party, -50
    • : WHEN [Heal HP]
      Change HP: Entire Party, +50
    • : WHEN [Toggle HUD]
Conditional Branch: Switch [0002: HUD: Toggle] == ON
Control Switches: [0002: HUD: Toggle] = OFF
      Else
Control Switches: [0002: HUD: Toggle] = ON
      Branch End
      Call Common Event: [HUD: Toggle]
    • : WHEN [Cancel]
    • Branch End

    FINAL STEPS

Run The Game and Interact with the TOGGLE HUD Event. Your HP Slider should display on the Screen. When you take Damage, the HP slider should decrease. When you're Healed, the HP slider should increase. You should also be able to Toggle the HUD ON and OFF.

    CONCLUSION

You can use the same process described in the [HUD] Common Event to create a Slider for MP or even EXP. The possibilities are endless. You can even use Pictures to show numerical values of HP, MP, EXP, etc (as shown in the Example Image at the start of this Tutorial) This will require a lot more planning and a little more work, but it can be done.

There are more advanced ways to display this data using a Script, but that's a Tutorial for another time.

With a little patience, you can easily create your own HUD designed specifically for your Game.

  8. With all the recent problems in my life I have put Moogle Fantasy on the back burner for awhile. Still going to finish it just taking some time.

That's a rather original and unique name for a first entry title (or not).

The Script problem I was having is half way solved, however I there are still two things that are giving me a headache (since I tried everything I could). In any case, my project has been on stand by for long enougth, maybe I'll try to advance the story and the overall theme.

I just noticed that I was able to create my own blog. Maybe I'll use this to post updates and such about my game progress :D

  9. So, a couple of you wonder where I've been for all this time? Let me clear a few things up. Starting with where it all began.

So, I received RPG Maker VXAce as a Christmas Present back in 2013, where I began using it to create many failed projects that never went anywhere. And so it was that one day, I should find myself dating a random stranger who I then got engaged to a few months later (Sidenote: Let it be known that this part is purely my fault and I have acknowledged it as such). And so it was that my first ex and I moved to my mother's house in Florida.

It was a horror story of survival, at first it was all rainbows and sunshine. However, when the days go by and the sun goes down, sunshine and rainbows quickly turns into death and decay. My mother was on prescription meds for her MS, but she started to take more and more and more at once and the money went towards booze and drugs instead of foods. At this time, I was using RPG Maker and was an active part of the community, this was around March I believe, ask Spectre, he knew me then. RPG Maker was my sole relief from reality because my ex would lend me her laptop and go to work. Soon thereafter she got lazy and got fired and thus my work on RPGMaker was substantially less and less. We would fight more often and she would toss me about the room and throw things at me, yes I was abused and it was the darkest time of my life. (Sidenote: I know this has turned dark and creepy and horrifying, but stay with me for a moment more, soon we shall be once again, into unicorns and rainbows Blaaargh)

And then my ex left the house, I had no way to use RPG Maker and spent the next four months playing console video games and wasting my life. It was then that I called my father and said, "Get me out of here, I might be homeless soon." To which he swiftly bought me a Greyhound ticket and off I go, back to Californification (California). (Sidenote: In my head, it's a british narrator with a humorous tune, you should try it this way) And so it was that upon coming back I applied for all sorts of jobs, and in September I landed one, working at Wal-Mart as a truck unloader with a shift of 4PM-1AM. It was amazing, I was working and I was happy, but as fate would have it, soon I began to see couples everywhere. I got jealous, I wanted a relationship like that. And so it was that I happened to have hooked up with my current girlfriend, she and I aren't doing too good right now, but that's a story for another day mate. Upon hooking up with my current, I began once again to work upon my most beloved of works, my story about a Spirit Walker and his quest to endlessly save the world.

Thanks to all of you or allowing me to say my piece, I don't expect any of you to read it (Because heaven forbid anyone reads these days right?!), and definitely don't expect any of you to comment on it. If you did take the time to read this, kudos to you, just add Blog Follower to your comment, if you so desire to do so. If not than a simple smiley in my inbox to brighten my day. This has been a wonderful stress relieving evening/morning/noon/night...it is somewhere in the world. I love you all, this is SirVivor/Hokobishu derping off!

  10. Pokémon: The Fourth Dimension

Inspired by the "Pokémon - The Secret Journey" RP Started by Naridar

Credit for the Character of Tobias goes to Shaddow

(Note: Shaddow, if you see this and don't want your character used in the story just tell me and I'll take him right out.)

WAR. War has struck the Averous Region. A plague has been spread among the Pokémon and people of the region, almost always leading to death. This has created a war among the already divided North and South nations of Averous. The Pokemon Professor of the region, Planetree, has been given a blank check by South Averous to try and find a cure. In the meantime, access to starting Pokemon is limited thanks to the plague leaving several aspiring trainers without Pokemon of their own, even though the League continues to run as planned.

In the meantime though, a clandestine criminal group has kidnapped Professor Planetree's daughter and taken her into the North where it is hard to find her, telling him to cease his research or else. For what reason is unclear, but regardless, a few young trainers will have to take up arms in order to save her. The police of the North will not help him because of his alliance with the South, the South won't help because of their lack of influence, and so it is up to Planetree to recruit the trainers he needs in order to help.

These trainers include Cyrus Hayden, an aspiring trainer with a past of suffering looking for a new beginning. Tobias Green, an aspiring trainer influenced by a past accident. Tara Gone, an experienced trainer who has overcome many hardships with her Pokemon. And Erin Red, who has become a trainer in an attempt to overcome the shadow her older brother has set for her.

What they don't realize is that there is more going on then they realize. The clandestine organization may not be who they initially seem to be, Pokémon of myth may be real after all, and their journey may lead them to saving more then just Planetree's daughter.

Find out, in Pokémon: The Fourth Dimension.

Note: This is an AU (Alternate Universe) story. It doesn't take place in either the anime or game universes, but rather a different one that takes inspiration from both sources. This is to make up a more "perfect" version of Pokémon that makes a heck of a lot more sense (in my eyes at least). I may still use characters from either one though, we'll see. There's a lot of information on the Averous region below the map if you're interested.

    MAP001_zps55e9d076.png

Averous Region – The Averous Region is the north-most region of actual civilization in the world. Dividing the rest of the Atori Continent (a continent separate from the Origin Continent, the location of Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh and separate from the Alpha Continent, the location of Unova and Kalos) from the great Northern Lands where only few people live among the ice and extended dark and light periods. The Averous Region used to be a united land, but two countries have split off offering different ideals. North Averous is heavily religious, with only a few outcast dissidents not preaching to the Grand Four. South Averous relies more on Science and Logic and those worshipping the Grand Four are outcast. This divide has worn down relations over time, and currently North and South Averous are at war due to the break of a plague that the nations blame each other for spreading. The plague, called Planetree Disease, named after the Pokémon professor who discovered it, affects both people and Pokémon and has spread wildly among the wild Pokémon population. In addition, the Averous Region has a lot of ancient historical sites and rotted medieval towers from a time long past. Making it a popular region for Archaeological visits, Anthropologists also have keen interest in the location both due to the history and the existence of the Grand Four religion. In addition, North and South Averous are divided into three sectors each to give each large area an identity.

Averous River – Called such because it runs through the center of the Averous Region.

North Averous - They are highly religious and almost zealot-like worshipping the Grand Four. People who don’t believe in the Grand Four are outcast in the population, including two out of the three Gym Leaders who actually live in the region, and most visiting trainers to their Gyms. Even during war-time, both nations have agreed to leave the Pokémon League mostly intact for trainers who still want to challenge it. Making them diplomatically immune and pledging to protect their safety from war-time conflicts. However, North Averous is resentful of South Averous for being the ones to host the Averous Pokémon League Championships as well as the Elite Four. They are also highly irritated at the denial of their access to the South, where two religious monuments of theirs lie.

South Averous - They are highly scientific and focused on advancement in technology and the understanding of Pokémon. Their heightened focus on logic makes the more religious feel slightly outcast in their society. Though Southerners are more welcoming then Northerners. The Pokémon Professor for the region, Professor Planetree, also lives here just outside of Etios Town which borders the Ergon Forest. They host both the Pokémon League Championships and the Elite Four. They have given Professor Planetree a blank check in funds to research the Planetree Disease and try to make a cure, and to try and find those responsible for its rapid spread, if it is not naturally occurring (which Planetree and the government both doubt). This is a secondary concern for them as they are already set on the North being the responsible party.

The Grand Four – The Grand Four are four legendary Pokémon. There was said to be four of them, one on each of the large mountains present in the Averous Region. They are worshipped as deities as they have never been sighted and are rumored to have been the creator of all Pokémon and people. They are also viewed as taking back the souls they forged upon their death, and then given a new life in the clouds that varies between enjoyment and suffering depending on how they conducted themselves during life. The South believes they exist, though doubts the creationist aspects. They view them as just four extremely powerful Pokémon without any particularly incredible powers of creation.

LANDMARKS (Marked in Yellow on Region Map)

1 – Orias Tower – One of the several aged towers present in the Averous Region from a time long past.

2 – Rocksix Mountain – Rocksix Mountain is one of four mountains rumored to have housed one of the Grand Four. Rocksix is rumored to have been the home of the Steel and Rock type in the Grand Four. All four mountains enjoy regular pilgrimages from worshippers. And it is said that worshippers who don’t pilgrimage up all the mountains at least once during their lifetimes should expect hardship to follow them after their life has reached its end, before being granted their rewards by the Grand Four.

3 – Deserkis Mountain – Deserkis Mountain is one of the four mountains rumored to have housed one of the Grand Four. Deserkis is rumored to have been the home of the Ground and Psychic type in the Grand Four.

4 – Lakeshore Tower – The one tower from medieval Averous, which is within South Averous, which has stood the test of time. It is given regular maintenance by Pokémon League staff as it is now being used to house the Elite Four.

This bridge is a neutral zone. No troops from either side can be moved across it. Though both sides still stare at each other from military outposts established at either end to ensure that no conflict takes

place on the bridge. All troops are moved using boats from hidden military outposts along the shoreline.

2 – Terkan Bridge – This Bridge connects the Desert and Bridge sectors of South Averous.

4 – Center City – The capital city of South Averous. Gym Leader is Forest. Its badge is the Middle Badge. The gym leader has no specialty, he uses a wide variety of Pokémon types. Traditionally challenged last.

5 – Dererket City – A mid-size desert city in South Averous. Gym leader is Dyna. Its badge is the Mesa Badge. The gym leader specializes in Flying and Dark types. Traditionally challenged third.

6 – Firas City – A small city at the end of the Central Bridge located in North Averous. It is by far the least religious of cities in North Averous, despite its proximity to Firas Mountain. This is mostly due to South and North culture’s clashing. Both religious and non-religious people wander the street, and because of the chaos of the city crime is quite common. The gym leader is Edgar. The badge is the Chaos Badge. He specializes in Fire type Pokémon. Traditionally challenged fourth.

7 – Harkan City – The capital city of North Averous. Gym leader is Asra. Its badge is the Grand Badge. She specializes in Psychic and Dark types. She is the only religious Gym Leader. Traditionally challenged fifth.

8 – Orole Town – One of the two towns of North Averous’s Green Sector. The people who live here are mostly committed to their sermons and church visits. Gym leader is Derek. The badge is the Grandiose Badge. He specializes in Grass Types. Traditionally challenged Sixth.

9 – Fakresh Town – One of the two towns in North Averous’s Green Sector. The people here are mostly committed to their sermons and church visits. Gym Leader is Lara. The badge is the History Badge. She specializes in Dragon Types. Traditionally challenged Seventh.

SHRINES (Marked S on Region Map)

S – Shrine of the Four – A neutral island in-between North and South Averous on the Averous River. It’s extremely difficult to reach thanks to rocks and eclectic weather. A lot of ships have actually been lost trying to reach it. Modern technology though has made it slightly easier to reach with an experienced boatman. The Shrine of the Four is rumored to have been the place where the Grand Four assembled to create humanity and Pokémon. In the center of it are stone structures and a big clear pool of clean water rumored to have slight regenerative powers. Some North Averous residents have claimed to have cured common diseases using the water.

Many may know that we have a team, that is very diverse, from different nations and cultures from around the world. What many may not know, that we are also writing books about different fairies. Another thing we are just now announcing is that we are going to make a Bobbi Ficus fan club. The fan club is not only for her, but also for all the fairies in the anthology.

    What is Project Aventice?

Project Aventice is the working title for an RPG in the works made using the RPG Maker VX Ace software.

Currently the concept consists of 2 capitals, 7 towns, 1 fort, 8 dungeons and 19 unique locations. This number may increase dramatically as the project moves forward.

    Planned Features

    • Dozens of unique characters with personality
    • Powerful antagonists
    • Classic and unique monsters
    • Large selection of classes and abilities
    • Original soundtrack
    • Original artwork
    • Time, season and weather systems
    • Turn based tactical combat system affected by time, season, terrain and weather
    • Crafting
    • Guilds / Factions

    Release

There is currently no estimated release date for Project Aventice. This is a labor of love and it will not be released until I am happy with the finished project.

    Join the team!

Want to be a part of this project? Just shoot me a message on the forums and let me know. I'm currently looking for experienced artists and scriptwriters.

Welp, I've never done a blog before but here goes nothing:P.

This is the prologue to my book that I have not thought of a name for yet, I'm still only on chapter 3.

I just wanted to see what everybody thinks.

So that's it for now :D My next post will definitely be more of a tip post! Thanks to everyone who read it, and to all a good night.

    Hello again everyone.

I had posted this previously on RPG Maker VX.net but it has unfortunately died, so I guess I should re-post it here ^^

One of my side projects is an Animorphs fan-game, based off the K.A. Applegate series from the 90's. (If you haven't heard of it, you should definitely check it out!)

These charsets were a lot of fun to make for me, because the series is just such a fond memory for me from the good ol' days :) I love the Andalite, especially.

Anyway, without further adieu, here are the Animorphs in VX!

Featured are (in order): Jake, Rachel, Marco, Cassie, Ax/Andalite, and Visser 3 (Get your torture devices ready!!)

Humans were made with RPG Maker VX Ace Character Generator.

Andalite was made by fusing the Centuar by Kalez and scorpion charset from the RTP, using Paint.Net.

Facesets were ripped from official book art, and made with Paint.Net. Not the best quality...but authentic & get the job done!

    Hope everyone enjoys!

Since I'm a fan of Dungeon Crawlers, decided to make on in RPG Maker VX Ace. Problem - it'd get pretty boring pretty fast. So everything has to be spiced up.

Starting from spicing up how the map works itself. What could be more interesting than simple square tiles? Isometric tiles! After some fiddling, the first version was ready:

And then most games just use parallax to draw a visible circle or full visibility altogether, that's pretty boring, and only seeing in a visible circle - I'm not a fan of that. Bastion did it pretty well, maybe I could replicate that. I can:

But just using borderless tile makes player guess where he explored and where he didn't explore, gotta change that up, add borders to tiles, make them work:

That was a success, sadly, it'd lag if there were more than 400 tiles on the map. So I had to optimize, and do it well. After some more fiddling and complaining about RPG Maker hidden classes, this was the result:

That went well. The other problem it had is that player could "see" through walls, tiles would rise even if they're behind a wall. After fixing that, the latest map version is functional:

    Bugs remaining:

    - Fix starting camera position.

  12. Wow. It has been an age, hasn't it? Well I'm finally back in the RPG Maker scene and I think the best way to get back into the flow is to record a new tutorial. I am just getting over a chest cold, but in a few days when it is gone, I'm going to do another video. I'd love to hear some ideas of what you guys would like to see done with events.
