IMPORTANT! SOMETHING EVERYONE HERE NEEDS TO WATCH!

This video of Game Theory was just recently released and this sheds a lot of light on what many people on this forum are doing, which is making fan games. Everyone here needs to watch this because things may end up taking a turn for the worse when it comes to the subject.

An update and Some Good News.

First off, I want to apologize for being away from you all for so long. I've been stressed out with things going on around the house, been trying to figure out why the hot water isn't working and been trying to learn GML, which is why I'm making this update.   First off, my RM game "Broken Oath" is on hold for the time being. It is far too large an undertaking for me at this point in time but this doesn't mean that I'm not working on anything!   I made a status post yesterday with a link to an image.   http://picpaste.com/visual_example-NPoYh0V2.png   This is a general idea of how my game is going to end up looking. There will more than likely be some additional menu buttons and the like but its just the general idea.   So to answer a few questions that you may have about it, I'll offer answers to the ones that come to my mind.   Q: Is this being made with RPG Maker? A: No, it is not. This game is being made in Game Maker. Hence the wide screen resolution (1280x720)   Q: Is this going to be an RPG? A: Yes and no. It is going to be a visual novel style game with a lot of RPG elements in it but is it going to be a typical RPG? No, it is not.   Q: What can we expect to see in this game? A: This is going to be a visual novel style game but there are going to be a few twists applied to it. You are still going to have skills to level up and maybe even different gear that can be equipped but most of all, there are going to be branching paths. A LOT of branching paths. I aim to make this game so immersive and wide spanning that you will be able to take many different approaches to situations that you encounter. You may encounter a locked door and you could choose to pick the lock, bash the door down, peek through the keyhole and try to see what's on the other side or you could even decide to look up and see that there is an open window above you. Now if only you had bought that rope and hook back at the market... But maybe you did buy the rope and hook and attempt to climb the wall and enter through the window? Oops... Your stats weren't high enough to make it to the window and you come crashing down, which just alerted the guards...   Q: When can we expect a demo? A: I plan to have a working demo in a few months. I have other expenses that I need to take care of beforehand and then I need to get the money for custom artwork and music. Luckily, I can still work on coding the game engine and will hopefully be able to get a lot of the demo made while waiting for funds. So to answer this question, it will be over two months time, since I will need to wait on artwork and music and that may very well take another month before everything is made to suit my needs.     With the questions out of the way, I will say this. I'm going to be setting up a web page soon to help track my progress and I will be including my PayPal link. If any of you want to donate to the construction of this game, it will really speed up its production.   I'll be sure to keep you all updated and I'll talk to you soon!

Saturday Night Live Stream Lessons

Ok, since my signatures are apparently not working at the moment (to my knowledge) I'll simply make the announcement here.   I plan on holding twitch live stream lessons for beginners new to the game engine every Saturday as needed. If anyone wishes to participate, please feel free to contact me either on this blog or via a PM.   There lessons will cover various different aspects of game development for RPG Maker Vx Ace. Ranging from basic editor support, art work, music composition, etc...   Note that these lessons will only be held if enough people wish to participate (I'm thinking around five members, at least.) With that being said, these lessons may not be held every Saturday as according to the number of those seeking attendance.   These lessons will begin around 8:00 PM Central Standard Time and will last for around an hour to an hour and a half.   I look forward to your attendance.

Game Making Is Hard! Boo Hoo! (Motivational speech...?)(Shrugs)

I am SO sick of encountering people who think "Derp dee dur! Rpg Maker looks simple! I'mma make a GREAT game and make a ton of money with minimal work!   News flash! It doesn't work that way. Trust me, I wish it did but it doesn't!   I have encountered several people who thought of Rpg Maker as a "Get Rich Quick Scheme" and thought that they were going to make the BEST game that they will EVER make, first time around and make tons of money off of it. Then, when they realize that Rpg Maker still requires a decent amount of WORK, they whine, cry, throw a fit, slip into a depressive state and give up.   This is the issue with this generation! Too many tit in mouth, hand fed children who are used to getting everything the easy way! Its the same thing for people who want original resources for their games. I understand that many people are making non-commercial games and can't afford to pay for resources. I completely understand that and I also understand that many of these people have every right to request things for free on here, because this is a great community and we help each other out as much as we can (to an extent.) But if you're working on a commercial game, which means that YOU will be making money off of it in the end, why the hell should your resource creators give you things for free!? Its a "This for That" situation in the world of business. That's just the way it is. That's why its called BUSINESS and not SHARING.   So ok, you decide that you're willing to pay for resources but you're cutting costs as much as you can because either 01: you can't afford it or 02: you're cheap as all hell! I can understand the first but You can't expect artists, who devote literally hours of time to a single piece of art or a scripter who devotes hours to writing lines of code, to practically GIVE their work away to you! If you want a good budget game, then have a good budget. That's what things like Kickstarter and Indiegogo are for!   In the end, accept the fact that life is difficult and I don't mean that in a pessimistic way, its just the truth. If you want to achieve ANYTHING in this world then you're going to have to WORK for it. You aren't good at whatever it is that you want to do or be? Then there's a little thing called PRACTICE. Imagine if everyone in this world just sat down and quit every time life threw them a curve ball or their profession was too hard for them to achieve. NOTHING WOULD EXIST. We'd still be bashing rocks against each other in hopes of making fire!   What I'm trying to say is that Game Design is a HARD JOB. It doesn't matter if you're using Unity, Blender, Game Maker or Rpg Maker. Game Design is HARD and TIME CONSUMING and requires SKILL.   Now stop bitching and go make something of yourself. You whiny, lazy little tuat!

Scripting Doesn't Make You Better Than Me...

I'm sure that this will raise the bristles of some people but you know what? It needs to be said.   I am sick of scripters (not all, mind you) thinking that just because they can write code, that they're better than everyone else. As if their ability puts them into some sort of "Nobility Class" and the rest of us are just peons and grunts.   I understand that learning code is difficult. Hell, I've tried my hand at it several times and still have trouble getting it all to sink it but that doesn't make you better than say a sprite artist, a music composer, a parallax mapper and most of all, an eventer. Yeah, events aren't as efficient as code and it does have its limitations but I think eventers need a little more appreciation due to the fact that they take that lack of efficiency, they take those limitations and they have to work around them!   There have been several times where I have shown my evented rotating icon menu to people and a scripter will say something like "For eventing, its not bad..."   Not bad...? Do you realize how much time I put into this??? Do you realize how much of a victory this is for me??? Of course you don't! Nevermind! I forget that you have the blood of God's running through your veins and that anything us lesser mortals accomplish could never match up to the things that you're capable of!   I'm sorry if this comes off as rude and I want people to understand that I am not directing this at every scripter on the forums. I have encountered several who are the opposite of what I'm ranting about but the others (I'm not naming names but a few of you probably know the one's I'm referring to...) need to get a grip on reality and realize that they are not some elite force that needs to be treated like royalty!   Rant over... For now...

Status Update

Ok, so I finally have a job (have had it for over a month now) and can finally get back to doing things with RMVX.   Currently I am attempting to make an event driven battle system, which I know I can do but it is going to be eat up a lot of my brain power to make it happen.   I'll post a demo of the results when its finished.

Been Busy and Going On a Trip

I'm going to start using this blog as a means to keep everyone up to date on either the progress of my games, progress on peoples requests for me and who knows what other stuff.   Starting off, I wan't to apologies to those who are expecting sprites and tilesets from me. I have done very little work on this for several reasons.   01: I am unemployed and I need to find a job first and foremost and that takes priority over any requests that I currently have. Now if you want to offer to pay me a commission for the things that you want made then that is a different story and may very well speed up the process of my finishing them. If not then you'll either have to be patient and accept that I'll get to them when I get to them or find someone else to do them for you if you're in that big of a hurry. Also I have my own projects that I need to finish with the prospect of selling them, so that also takes priority over the requests I have. Sorry but that's how it is right now.   02: In conjunction with #1, I'll be out of town over the weekend and won't be back until late Monday evening (Central Time.) This means that I will have even less time to work on your sprites.   03: On a different note, I am currently working on a Tactics game that will be intended for VS battles and/or Co-Op. At the moment I've been working on the skill sets and animations and it is going SLOOOOWLY. But I expect it to be finished within the next couple of months, or at least the VS mode and Co-Op modes.   That is all I have to say right now. I will update when things change and (hopefully) take a turn for the better.   Take care until next time!
