Hi guys! Ailuro here! I have been so busy lately that I hadn't been able to blog!! Today I am going to write tips on writing forums and using proper details(funny because I don't use details in my forums! ). I hope this helps anyone who is trying to request a script or asking help because I've seen many forums where people don't often include details. I try answering some forums but they need DETAILS!
1. Know what you want. If you need something you need to know what you want. This means...know what the title of whatever you want so others know what it is. Ex. I've been asking in so many forums on how to do quick time events a.k.a button mashers. You also want to avoid these words in a forum "I don't know" "I'm not sure" and "I don't really know what I need".
2. Include details and information that is complete. In order for the person trying to help you, you need to provide details. Details help someone understand your situation and allows them to provide accurate information. I often see forums where people misunderstand what a person wants and give the wrong help info. This results in the person asking for help saying "that is not what I'm looking for" "that is not quite right" or "I'm looking for something else".
3. Add the words "If you have any questions please private message or post in comments". This lets the person know your welcome to questions asking for more details to what you need.
4. Wait. It often takes a while for someone to reply to your forum.
Example of a good Forum:
Hi I'm Ailuro! I need some help. Does anyone know how to do a quick time event (a.k.a button masher) with only eventing? What I want is for my main protagonist to get touched by a monster and enter quick time event mode. For the quick time event, I don't want a sequence of buttons to be hit but one certain button on the keyboard. If this can be done by scripting it is gladly accepted too. Thanks for your help and if you have any questions about my request, you can private message me or post the question in the comments.
See? A well formatted forum question. BTW this is an actual question I need help on!!!!! So you can help me with this topic too if you want.(I decided to kill two birds with one stone! )
That is it for now! Thanks for reading and sorry for my long break!
If you want to add on to my tips you are welcome in the comments! Meow!
Hi guys! Ailuro here! I finally found time to blog! Sometimes I wonder why rpgmakervxace lacks some functions that allow users to customize their games more. I know that the Luna Engine is out so you can make a custom menu but I don't want to pay money for something that should have came with the vxace. AHHHHHH.....the scripting part!!!! They should make a guide book or something called"scripting for rpgmakervxace" I can't find any books on rgss3 or object oriented ruby scripting(i like books a lot). I aslo wish they have a custom entry menu function where you can customize the entry menu. AHHHHH the functions that might make rpgmakervxace better. Oh well life is life. If you guys know any books on rgss3 or object oriented ruby scripting please comment and tell me!! Also if you have a function that you think might make rpgmakervxace better go ehead and comment that too! That's it for today!!! Meow!
Hi guys! Ailuro here! Sorry that I took the weekend off blogging. I've been so busy last week I decided to take a break. I might take this week off of blogging too. I have a lot of school stuff to do and I just can't find time. I am going to do a tips thing right now though. Horror stories can be pretty hard to write sometimes I guess. You have to write the right mood into the story to make your story creepy or have some type of scary feeling.
1. Get in the mood. I find writing horror stories easier when I am scared myself. If you don't like getting scared then its OK to skip this step. I like to watch a creepy TV show before I write a scary story. For those who speak and can listen to Chinese/mandarin I recommend a Taiwanese TV show called Things About Stars(link if you want to watch! http://2015.vslovetv.com/2014/12/things-about-stars-list.html) I watch at least one episode, then start writing.
2. Details!!!!!!!! Include very descriptive details. On scary parts, add details about sounds, mood, environment, and scenery. Kinda like concrete scenery I guess...look it up. If you include this in your story, it will paint a picture in the readers minds(if you are applying this to a rpg game then right scene notes). Scene notes are notes on what tints you are going to use and the music that will be playing in your game.
3. First person view. I recommend writing the story in a first person view. This means the main character is the narrator. This will make it easier to apply step 2 to your writing.
This was a fairly short tips because I am busy. I might do more tips on this subject but you can go ahead and add on. Meow!
Hey guys! Ailuro here! My friends and I are going(maybe) to start a program of some sort called "Get Inspired" or something(still working on the name...). I've seen so many "help guys give me ideas for my game" forums. Let's just say i want to resolve that problem. I get that many people have trouble thinking or brainstorming(trying to get a good idea). Well all you have to do is leave your username in the comments of my blogs or ImAGirlUPerv's blog. If you are desperate for help or need a long term help..just message me only. You will tell me what type of game you want(genre) and some important details you specifically want in your game and we will try to help as much as we can. I will be posting a blog entry specifically on the steps and guidelines to message us. Also, the instructions for writing out a message so we have the proper materials to start with. Please don't start sending us help messages until this blog post has been published and is officially started. If you just can't wait for it to start(need help asap), leave your username on the bottom in the comments so I can try to contact you. Other than that HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!!!!!!! Meow!
Hi Guys! Ailuro here! I found a GLITCH in my puzzle demo... so I have to FIX it!!! NAAAAAA.... I will have to postpone my tutorial for another few days. I am so sorry. Please don't hate me. To make up my postpones I will do a whole bunch of tips posts. The puzzle won't be exactly good but it is close enough to the mad father puzzle but you cannot repick up a puzzle piece or set it down. When you mess up you have to press the reset button and start all over again. Not exactly what I planned it to be but it is the best I can do. I have a lot of tests and quizzes this week so I hope I can find time to fix my glitches. Wish me luck on my math and science quiz tomorrow! Meow!
Hey guys! Ailuro here!
I am so sorry I missed my date for posting a tips entry! I have been just so busy with the puzzle
I'm working on and school work I just didn't have time. Anyways I will do a short tips entry since it is very late right now. This will be a game naming tips entry I guess.
1. I recommend naming the game after some planning of the storyline and script because the name you came up with might not make sense with your game. Though if you want, you can pick a name first.
2. Name your game something that relates to the game. If you don't you might end up with "Cute Cat Tea Party" but really it is about puppies having a tea party(you see where I'm going?).
3. Your games name should pop up somewhere in the game or give players an aha moment during gameplays. Such as a game called "Bloody Massacre" should have a news article or relate to the Boston Massacre(if you don't know what that is then look it up because this is not going to be a history class lesson).
4. Your game name should be well thought through. You don't want to end up with something like "Yucky Cheesecake Simulator" or "Lucky Rabbit Sniper". I mean seriously? This will not get a lot of people to play your game. It might get their attention because of the funny name but a bad name makes people think its a bad game.
5. Last, make sure you game name is unique. You don't want to name your game "Cats". It is just not unique and usually people see the title first before anything else about your game. If the name doesn't catch people's eyes. People just won't play your game.
That's it for now I guess and I've finished the puzzle eventing I'm working on so I will be posting a tutorial sometime soon!! Thanks for reading and hopefully forgiving me! Meow!
Hi guys! Ailuro here! Sorry about yesterday, I just hadn't had time to blog. I have finished about 25% of my puzzle that I am currently trying to figure out. If you don't know what I'm talking about then you should read my last post or two. I have figured everything out and is just finishing up the last few pieces of the puzzle. When I'm done I will(I promise) post a tutorial with all he supplies you need(tilesheets, sprites, script and demo). IF I finish I'm pretty sure I won't be considered a newbie anymore. The puzzle has a lot of conditional branches. It is also probably considered an advanced event. I've been working on the puzzle for about 5 hours and ye it is still 25% done. Wish me luck and stay excited for my tutorial that might come out in about 3 days! Meow!
P.S. Sorry for the short post. I am really busy and out of ideas. Tomorrow I will be writing about tips though
Hey guys Ailuro here! If you've read my first or second blog you would know that I said I wouldn't do daily blogs. WELL...I've changed my mind about that. I have plenty of time to do it in my tech class because i have to type for ten min. So most likely i would do daily entries. Yesterday I was working on my game and rpg maker vx ace froze on me when I hit the save button. I usually press save after I've finished a map and test played my game. After the whole program froze it deleted me whole progress on my game(I seriously have some electronic crashing issues). Ha ha I was glad I didn't do much. I only did a couple of maps and barely any eventing(that's a relief). Anyways...I've tried and thought so hard about the puzzle I was confused about. I believe I've came up with something or figured it out entirely. If I did I will definitely write a tutorial and upload a small demo or something because I know this a non existent puzzle tutorial that you can't find easily on the internet. What I've come up with is a long and confusing system of conditional branches and a combination of Himeswork tile switch script. There will be a lot of character sprite making so I recommend some of you to get rpg character hub if at all possible. The great thing is what i've come up with doesn't require making millions of npc sprites. You only need to make a certain amount of npc sprites according to how many puzzle pieces you will need and a cursor sprite. Once I've actually figure out the rest of the puzzle I will write the tutorial and upload the demo! Wish me luck! Meow!
P.S. If you are wondering what type of puzzle I'm talking about here is a pic! I also have a challenge too...If you can figure out how to do this with events before I do, then I will write a Titan sized blog post on whatever you choose(except for inappropriate stuff). If you accept this challenge please comment and let me know so I can keep track or if you've finished link a demo or tell me how to in the comments.
Hey there guys Ailuro here! I have now decided to type my blog entries on something more stable! I just hope windows internet explorer won't crash on me. I decided since I have some time at school and in tech class i have to type for 10 minutes , I would blog(since that basically is typing, right?). I seriously don't know what to say right now....I guess i can talk about the game and give a little spoilers. It's going well... And REAAAALLLY slow. Thanks to my friends that do NOTHING! My first puzzle is done now and i have like 90% of the first part of the game to go. GYAHHHH..... Oh well, I guess I will have to live with lazy friends. In fact, one of them is correcting my grammar as I type. She's so scary... yelling at me when I make a mistake. However, she is a stupid rpg gamer because she is always, and i mean ALWAYS, finding glitches(that might come in handy). I have like 3 people helping me on my team...my school is really small...there is like only three people available to contribute to my game...ahhh. Ok..enough complaining for me now...here i say some spoilers. I'm only allowed to say that this game will be a horror game, there will be timelines and dimensions, and it is going to be awesome(huh..I did more complaining did i say some spoilers). Oh well..I feel so refreshed right now . I will be posting more tips later on in the future! My next tips blog will be talking about thinking of ideas for the title of your game and the skeleton of deciding on what your game is going to be about(I'm so happy my friend has stopped correcting my grammar!)...My friend just made a rpgmakervxace forum account and her username is so funny..and disturbing(ImAGirlUPerv) seriously? Thanks for your time and i hope i didn't creep you out! Meow!
Hello Ailuro here!! Today I'm just doing a sort post since I have time on my hands! I'm pretty surprised I have time to do some blogging because of my busy schedule. So since I'm here and I am doing a shirt post, I guess I will talk about some personal stuff(not too personal, you got scared there now didn't you?). I've been recently stressing over some eventing issues since I don't have a scripter or eventer on my team so I am learning and taking on the role. I can't seem to find how this puzzle(found in this forum:http://www.rpgmakervxace.net/topic/19285-a-puzzle-script/) works. I don't want a sliding puzzle, I want a puzzle where you walk the pieces into place(kinda like the one from mad father of aya). Can someone point me to a tutorial or explain to me in the comments. Thanks! Meow!
Hello! Ailuro here! Sry on that whole safari crash thing on my iPod. I think I wrote to much for it to handle. Anyways here are some tips for the social writer!!! I, myself, am a social writer. I tend to rely on my friends to chuck ideas at me and help me process information. Kind of like a team effort!
Tips for the social writer:
1. Find a trustworthy friend. If you want to keep your game information mostly classified like I am then you want to choose a friend who is close to you and can keep secrets. If you don't care about keeping game info secret I still recommend you to get close friends.
2. Number of friends. I like to just have one friend help me on writing and giving ideas because it is less to process, but if you like many friends helping you, give it a go! Just having one friend can help make things more agreeable and have less conflict(just the way I like it!) but many friends have a lot more heads. More heads means more brains and more brains mean more ideas. I can't process a lot of ideas at once but I like it when I have a lot of material to work with, but too much can be too much, right? That is the best time to tell your friends to stop with the idea flow. This will give you time to put together a storyline.
3. Playing catch with ideas. With one friend you can pitch and catch ideas with each other. You can start or your friend can. All you have to do is throw an idea at your friend discuss it and write some notes then she/he will throw an idea right back at you. A very simple concept that you can also do with multiple friends. With multiple friends throw ideas in a circle style. Each person takes turn giving their idea.
4. Where to meet. I like to meet at my friends house or my house. This will give us privacy and we can be as loud as we want(I tend to shout and laugh at some ideas that my friend suggests). I don't recommend libraries. Being a social writer you can be loud and whispering too long can hurt(well for me). If you and your friend are good at whispering and staying quiet them go ahead and try a library and tell me your experience(I'm a curious individual)because I never tried(I would probable get kicked out of the library if I tried). Another spot is a cafe. Just try not to attract a lot of attention(but if you want I can't stop you). I like the feeling of sipping vanilla steamers(I live in the Seattle area, it is almost always cold here) and talking about a story plot with your friend.
5.Take a break. If you and your friend get too tired it is always ok to take a break! Seriously brainstorming is always tiring at some point. You always run out of brain juice at some point. You can just hang with your friends, go out and get some inspiration, or just chat and gossip.
6.The legendary brainstorm. This mainly is when ou text instead of actually meeting with your friend. I don't recommend this type of social writing if ou don't have an unlimited data plan. The legendary brainstorm is when you or your friend comes up with the best idea for your game. You or your friend types up one of the gigantic texts that can crash your message apps(if you have iPhone) it happened once to me and it can happen to you. I recommend you get at least thre bars of Internet or anything if you are going to social write by texting. I can't exactly tell you how this works if you don't try it yourself.
7.Snacks. Boy oh boy this is like the most important thing in the universe for me when I social write. I am a eat thinker. I need food to think. I helps recharge my brain juice. If you are like me, after a long time of brainstorming you will feel like fainting without snacks. Haha I feel like I'm talking more about snacks than writing tips! Oh well this is important to me! You need some way to refresh yourself after all that thinking and the best way is healthy snacks and drinks(junk food is ok I'm just the healthy food type).
Congratulations you've read a lot of incoherent babbling of mine and some tips(I tend to babble like I am right now!!). I would love you to add some more tips if you like!! I may help me and some others too! I completely won't mind(I'm the type of person that likes other peoples ideas if they're good). Comment if you want more feed back and if you have questions! Thank you for your time! Meow!
Hey guys Ailuro here! Today I am not going to say anything about my project because my team haven't agreed to let me leak anything out. (sry) I am here to talk about some writing tips! Other than being the producer of my game I am also the main storyline writer. Writing stories isn't really that hard all you need is paper, a pencil, and a creative mind. Well that sounded a bit...idk...cheesy to you I bet. Haha well that is totally true. Anyways other than those things you have something optional. You can always have a trusty friend have a chat over the storyline. They throw an idea at you and you throw one at them. To some other people maybe you think better when your by yourself. No biggy. I will actually be going over some tips for both types of these people: the independent writer and the social writer.
Tips for the independent writer:
1. Find a quiet place or time to thoroughly think through your ideas. I find the bathroom or the few minutes before you fall asleep the best time to think about ideas. (for some odd reason people seem to think better at this time?! If there is some science behind this I would love to know)
2. If you don't like absolute seilence, put on some music(i don't recommend turning on the tv because I can easily become an distraction). Idk what type of music you like but science has proved that classical music helps the mind to relax and allow it to think clearly(it has worked for me perfectly) so I recommend classical over rock or heavy metal
3. Here comes the writing part!! I don't believe in graphs and flow charts for plots and stories.(blah) I personally like jotting down bullet points for each idea I have and then crossing some out if I don't like an idea. If you like graphs and charts and whatever they teach in English class then great! You are an organized thinker! Since I don't do that stuff I can't really give tips on that.
4. Now you have your ideas so now you can write a full draft or script(not computer script but dialogue script) I like writing a short draft or paragraph about my games that highlight some main points and an occasional detail. If you are writing a horror game I recommend keeping a side tally of possible deaths
5. Relax a bit. Writing a lot can waste some of your brain juice. Take a break for a day or so or else it won't be healthy for you.
6. Final draft time!!! Write out your story with full details. I can't really give more tips from here since I am more of a social writer. I will be posting about the social writer tomorrow since I am running out of brain juice!! Hehe. Please comment if you have any questions or want me too convince my team to give you some insides on my new game that's coming up thanks for your time! Meow!
Hey guys! Ailuro here! I am starting a new big project called "dead end". Most of the game's information will remain classified until the demo comes out in a couple of months. I will be the producer and storyline editor of the the game! I am only allowing myself to say that this will be a actually scary horror game with many puzzles and easter eggs! I will be posting some things about my game when the demo is almost complete!!! The art will be amazing and this will be a very good quality game! I have a professional crew that have their own specialized jobs that they are good at. I am excited to post more facts about my game in the future! Ailuro out! Meow!
