Happy Day's Are Here Again!

Happy Days Are Here Again!     The FBI reopened their investigation into Hillary Clinton because her CLOSEST AIDE had classified materials on her HOME COMPUTER! Huma Abedeen's (Hillary Clinton's closest aide) husband is being investigated for sending sexually explicit messages to a 15 year old girl with full knowledge that she is in High School. The DA who investigated the pervert discovered a trove of Hillary/Classified emails! Obama also cancelled 12 scheduled campaign appearances after this came to light! How much longer will you tolerate the criminal behaviour?   Hillary Clinton's emails, leaked by WikiLeaks, state unequivocally that Saudi Arabia FUNDS ISIS along with Qatar! She was also recored on tape talking about how holding elections for Palestinians was a bad idea, and they should have arranged the voting so they could engineer a winner (Rig the election). This is getting HUGE!   Maybe, finally, we can get a trial for the accused and let the chips fall where they may. It's not fair that she should be allowed to avoid prison time, when people who have done far less got much more severe punishments.

Tuesday? Already?

Holy cow... I guess Progress took a 7 day hiatus...(Damn you, Steam! Damn you!)   But seriously, I have no one but myself to blame. I got caught up in the awesomeness of all my unplayed steam titles. I started poking around and found a bunch that would run on my comp and...well, I beat a couple games...   I did do a LITTLE bit of work, mostly for my websites graphics. I am still waiting to launch it, sadly, since my internet will not support my uploads, all 7 of them. However, I hope to officially go live with it on Friday at 12 AM PST (Pacific Standard Time). Even if I have to push out an unfinished, unlinked web page, dammit, it's going online! Heh. I also got a bit of testing done on my game, 'The Passafist'. I am nearly through with it, almost have the bugs fixed and I am just about to send it into the world! I'm really excited! If you like story driven games that break the RM standard fare, you'll love this game! Full of stealth action, easter eggs, exploration, danger and romance, it is about a young girl's mission to learn ways to overcome the bully that torments her without using violence (I started this before Undertale was a thing, but I failed to market it properly.).   Perseverance. It's how I've gotten here, without abandoning any projects... they just get put off for extended periods of time. I am getting better at not, but the Grind. It feels too much like work sometimes.   How are the projects going for all of you folks? Getting things done, or are you like @Knighterius (I'd seen your confession on my last post. ) and I, whiling away your time on Steam? We should all take a deep breath, relax, and clear our schedules for IIAW V! This one promises to be the most jam-packed, game filled, entry-submitting fun fest yet! Make sure to say thanks to your gracious host. (All together now, "Thank you, Jackus." )   Anyways, it's back into a state of repose for me, until I can start my project for the upcoming contest. Good luck to you all, and to all a good night! Or day. Whatever.

I (kind of) Have Internet Again!

Hurray! I have the most rudimentary of web connections again!   The problem is, the internet tends to be a huge distraction for me. Where as before, I would write down what I needed and use my limited time online to find it, I now dabble and dink around wherever and waste time on myriad websites across the internet. Oh well, I also have direct access to information when I need it, like tutorials for GIMP that I can't seem to get to work for me, no matter how simple. Boy, I love GIMP. :|   Having internet again, means I have almost completed most of my website. I still have a few placeholders for things (the old "coming soon" or "under construction" bit.) but I will replace those in an update in the near future. I always bite off more than I can chew, and currently I am chewing the bug hunt in my first ever started project, I am working on another project which I hope to have a demo for by December, I am making a trailer for said game which I hope to have done in a few days, and I am honestly debating whether or not to jump into IIAW5. I shouldn't... but I might. I like making contest games, especially short ones. We'll see what the topic is, and then I'll decide. HURRY UP, JACKUS! We have been waiting all day! Heh.   I just found out today that using software to edit your finished games to have YOUR ICON is within acceptable use for the EULA! Woot! That was very pleasant news, along with a very talented scripter helping me basically add a function to give the player a number of lives! Anyways, work goes steadily. I get more and more done, but the urge to dump it all and play video games is very strong. I've been enjoying Party Hard a lot more than I had initially thought I would from the trailer. Somehow it ended up in my Steam library (probably a bundle I had bought) and I figured I'd give it a go. It's been pretty fun. \ How about you guys? Getting any work done? Trailers cut and websites launched? Games polished? Steam games that are just begging you to play them over working? Yeah, I know. I know. Anyways, thats all for this week. Hopefully I can post something again this time next week. and hopefully I will have a game, a website and a trailer to advertise shamelessly. See you all back here next time!

So...Close....

Whew! After nearly 2 years, my first Long-Term Project (6+ Months of work) has been nearly completed! I have a little bit of work to do still but, I am proud to say the first project I'd ever started is being polished for Full Release at this time. If I work at it, and not my other game, I could have it ready before Tue next week!   I had a demo version of it available, and it may still be (which I need to take down for now).People played it and commented that a little back story would be nice, so I did it! I added a fair amount of backstory in the form of journal pages which you don't have to find, but if you just blaze through the game you'll be pretty clueless as to WTF just happened. If you find them all though, not only will you have read the journal entries, but you'll be treated to MORE content where you play through some defining events in a characters life that also helps clarify some of the journal entries! But it got kind of dark... It was meant to be a light-hearted-dark-humor game, but it took a left turn into the night when I tried to write in some clarification. Meh. I am still proud of my work, I've put a lot of effort into making a game that I would play, and after a long period of work, I think it is coming together nicely. Heck, I even kept it PG with the only strong word used being "Pissed" (and I've heard that one on Dragon Ball Z on Cartoon Network at 3pm, so I doubt it is THAT strong...) I originally started with the rule that it would be all RTP and edits/originals by me with 0 scripts. I ended up adding a couple of scripts because my ambitions exceeded my Eventing Mastery, and I added a few sound effects to increase the ambiance. I even spent a day making a full screen cutscene animation! The practice was wonderful and I have been using the technique to add more depth and variety to my other games as well, since I work on 2-4 games at any given time (That's why it took me so long to make this game!) I've even added controller support and I think I might go back through all of my games and add controller support, because why not?   Well, It's been another exciting week for us here at Sleep Chamber Productions, and we hope it's been as good for you guys, too. Did you guys get anything done on your projects? Are you nearing the completion of your first (or second, or third, or hundredth...) game? Will you save Gotham from the giant burning frogs sailing out of the stormy night sky to assail the citizenry of this once fair town? Tune in next time!

So much done. So much to do.

Have you ever been working on a project so long past the date you thought you'd finish it that you just wanted to drop an F-Bomb and walk away from it? I keep having the urge to do just that on my very first title, 'The Passafist'. I got RPG Maker almost 2 years ago now, in September 2014 and I thought I would whip out this game to learn my way around the engine before I started in on my masterpieces. My rules for it were: If I didn't make it, or it wasn't included in the RTP, it wasn't going into my game, and I thought I would have it done in a week. I had a lot of bad reasons/ justifications for these arbitrary and limiting rules, but I blew way past my 1 week mark and I am now wanting to just put it down and walk away. The problem is, I can't. I have had some good feedback on my game despite these drawbacks (from the Internet! *gasp*) and I was told some more backstory would be appreciated. So I started adding backstory. Then I personally wanted more content, so I added more content. Then I realized a couple of ideas absolutely needed a script to work, so I added (just a few) scripts. Now I need to just finish what I have and stop implementing new ideas before I finish with the old and reaching burnout. I keep making more work for myself and then I think about what needs done and I just want to quit! I'm sure you know that feeling too. Don't let it take you down and persevere. It might take a bit, but you can push yourself over that hump and motivation will come flooding back. I like to keep a notebook of things that need to be done, and I work on 2-3 games at any point so when I feel bored with one game, I can start implementing the ideas into another. Sometimes, I'm really naughty and I sit down with pile of steam games and wile away some time... Otherwise, work is going nicely on my titles, both public and secret. I am working hard to have a christmas themed demo (at least) game ready by December, and a trailer for said game hopefully ready by next month. We'll see. I always bite of more than I can chew. How about you? Do you have any games in the pipeline for the holidays? Do you make more work for yourself than neccessary?

Where's July? Where's my website? Did I Finish Anything?

Whew! July went by quicker than I had thought, and we are now 4 days into August? Here I am still without a site and I still haven't finished my games.   Heh, it helps if you don't randomly start a new game at the beginning of the month with the hare-brained idea that you can finish it by the end of July... I didn't, and I have other games to finish still. Oh well, I am making a lot of progress on one specifically, 'The Passafist' (I know, I know). I started it almost 2 years ago (In September), and I thought I would finish it by the end of the week. I didn't, and I started new games along the way. It was supposed to be a small stupid game to help me learn the engine so I could move on to other games. It has turned into something more... involved, with a full plot and a fair amount of stealth gameplay. Now I am adding even more to it to flesh out the backstory, and add content. I think I might move it to more adventure game, too. Very linear, if you want to just blaze through, but if you adventure and find things you'll learn more about the world and the characters and maybe get better endings. But I have other games I want to finish, too! One in particular I want to have a demo out for by or around Christmas.   Well, I should buckle down, get off of the internet and start some real work before I have to go back to that place they call a "job". Oh well, one day, I'll have a job that I can sneak some RM time into and keep on working while I'm workin'. What kind of projects have you got planned? Do you have any demos completed yet? Good luck with the game dev! PK

21 Days Gone, 9 More to Go

The month of June has been an eventful one. It seems like all things are coming together quicker the more I work towards them. Strange, right? Lol. I have nearly completed the first game I have ever started. I was hoping to have it done a few months ago, but I had a strange issue that borked my project files, and I lost the motivation to redo all that I had done, even though I had notes. Then a second game got blasted to oblivion, and another user informed me (at the same time I realized that) I could copy old project data files (like actor.dat) over to the broken folder and hope it's compatible. I ended up not being able to fully recover one of my games because, but I didn't lose as much as I otherwise would have without the fix.   So far, I have completed my demo for 'Moral of the Story'. It has had some major updates and a lot of content added. I have also nearly completed 'The Passafirst' for a full release. I hope to have that ready to go by June 30th, which seems reasonable. Until I remember I overestimate how much I can get done in the RM engine when I work on my games.   I was working really hard on a game demo that I was hoping to release with the opening of my site. Then I realized, since it's a seasonal game, it would probably be better off being released as either a demo or the full game when the season actually comes back around. Be on the look out for something something seasonal!   And finally, I have my site built, and ready to go online. I am just waiting for my capital to arrive. I had run short of funds to purchase a domain name and now I hope to do that on the last day of the month. With any luck I might even be able to launch my site on that day, though I think realistically it will be July 1st when I put my website open to the public.

Workin', Workin'...

Wow. Life's been eventful, to say the least. I've been pretty busy, and I am glad to be getting back into making my games more frequently. I hadn't been working on them as much as I've wanted lately but I am back to it now. I sadly lost much work on one of my games a few months ago, and I have yet to recover the motivation to redo all my work, even though I have notes for what I did. Instead, I have been devoting my time to the other 2 games I am currently creating in the engine, working out bits & bugs for Farm Life 2040 and writing plot and some story for 2 other games as yet to be started in the engine. One I wrote a short blog post about, it might be more like a traditional RPG than any game I have created to date, the other is going to be a choose your own adventure/visual novel type game. I just wish I had more time to work on these things, ya know? Of course you do, if you make games also!   Pretty soon, I hope to have a demo ready for each of the 2 games I am working on currently. One game, Moral of the Story, already had a demo previously, but this version is much more refined, and fine tuned, and loads more content. It's coming together slowly, but not as slowly as the other game. All I will say about it for now is that I hope to have the full game ready for Holiday 2016 and it will be similar to . Heh, yep. Renegade. Not a direct clone, mind you. But you'll know it's influence. With maybe a touch of Noir. Just a few elements, really. And a dash of Holiday. I thought I could make it last year in a few short months, but it has ballooned so I hope to release the beast this year.  I plan on making a big stack of physical discs with labels and an autorun menu. I found a sweet program to build a simple but effective menu using multimedia elements, and I just need to get a Lightscribe disc burner and some blanks. The blanks cost a pretty penny though, so it's gonna be a hit to my wallet, but maybe it will pay off in website hits. I intend to have a real site up and going with a URL very soon. Wix forced my hand on that one, not letting me export the site I create and limiting my options for the cost of hosting, no thank you. Not sure when it will happen, hopefully before July, but I think I said that in March. Things come up. I don't want to make an official release for these demos until I have the site ready, and I can link to it via my discs. I might also make the bundle of games and demo's available as a *.zip file and post it online. I am going to make a few games before I jump into trying to distribute them on Steam, which I hope to get going sometime next year. I want to switch over to using RMMV, since I purchased it on release and have seen quite a few significant updates to it. Anyways, that's where I'm at. How about you?

Ennui

93 years ago, the last bomb was loosed to deliver its final message of destruction & chaos at the close of the Shattering War. Society wasn't completely wiped out, but it was close. 'Humanity' seemed to have left the world, and man-shaped beasts with weapons were all that remained, roaming the desolated earth, and furtively battling each other for motives beyond the reproach of logic. Nobody really knew what the fighting was about to begin with. Certainly none of the soldiers and none of the populations of the planet. There were no indicators of any animosity between nations but one thing led rapidly to another, and before anyone could blink, armed soldiers were blowing each other to bits, while bombs razed entire cities. Fighting went on, somehow, for 10 years, massively reducing the world's population to a fraction of the previous 19+ billion inhabitants. It was the Human Race's long prophesied twilight, our dark, self-destructive fantasy of erasing ourselves from the face of the planet was finally coming to fruition. Eris & Enyo were having a field day.   When the fighting ceased, just as suddenly and mysteriously as it had started, the scant remaining inhabitants on each of the continents were brought together and given shelter in the Consolidated Cities, a network of 7 cities built in varying locations about the northern continent, each with populations reaching into the tens of millions, with the largest reaching nearly 80 million residents. These cities are linked together by a high speed train system, since unapproved travel methods through the wastes is discouraged, I.E. anyone who voluntarily exits through city gates will not be allowed to reenter upon their return. The citizens are allowed to, at any time, inform the city they will be leaving, and upon the exit be fitted with a device which will bar their entry from the cities electronically. Any found to be on the registers and without their device are immediately apprehended and taken to... no one knows where, exactly. The few brazen enough to regain unauthorized access to any of the cities are usually regarded as crazy or delusional, since it is widely believed that the Wastelands are filled with potent neurotoxins which would melt the mind of an average man before the day had closed.   Civilization has been at peace with itself for 93 years. Humanity learned a few hard lessons from the Shattering War and has diligently been employing them in an effort to never return to our barbaric past. Society has developed methods of providing for all the population, while making any kind of physical labor unneccessary, though some still took up occupations in various fields to while away the time. Outwardly society at large has finally achieved peace with itself, but the vast majority of the population feels a deep longing for something more. Something primal, unfamiliar... and yet, strangely comfortable. Something that would have once comforted our ancestors, but we seem to have lost our path. Advances in science only seem to deepen this calling, and causes an uneasiness in every individual who lacks that contact. For many, they simply visit a doctor and have a medicine prescribed to them for their anxiety, or whatever may be troubling them. Some few heretics dare to see the 'Witchdoctors', the raving lunatics on the fringes of society who claim to be in contact with Spirits and myriad ethereal intelligences. The mages, the shamans, the witches. All claim to be privy to a world beyond the five senses. All are officially banned from practicing their rites. They claim to be in contact with beings who are trying to elevate mankind, but they are nothing more than disturbed individuals who are in dire need of professional assistance and intervention.   To the government of this new world, the Shamans and their ilk need to be removed, like a cancer from the societal body, lest they drag humanity back into the dark ages of religious fervor. The shamans, and any of the unorthodox or otherwise unapproved spiritualists need to be removed before they can poison the minds of the new society, who each do their part faithfully to ensure that humanity is ever marching towards progress of reason, and farther from our roots as spiritual beings. Drifting gently into the yawning abyss of materialism, humanity is not quite sure what is missing, knowing only that it's absence is deeply felt.   This is the nebulous lump of words on which I found my magnum opus, for whenever I get around to starting it. They say you don't want to use your masterpiece idea before you have a few games under your belt, so I am just establishing the world for now. Enjoy! (And 'Ennui' is pronounced "on-way".)
