Hi guys! Ailuro here! I finally found time to blog! Sometimes I wonder why rpgmakervxace lacks some functions that allow users to customize their games more. I know that the Luna Engine is out so you can make a custom menu but I don't want to pay money for something that should have came with the vxace. AHHHHHH.....the scripting part!!!! They should make a guide book or something called"scripting for rpgmakervxace" I can't find any books on rgss3 or object oriented ruby scripting(i like books a lot). I aslo wish they have a custom entry menu function where you can customize the entry menu. AHHHHH the functions that might make rpgmakervxace better. Oh well life is life. If you guys know any books on rgss3 or object oriented ruby scripting please comment and tell me!! Also if you have a function that you think might make rpgmakervxace better go ehead and comment that too! That's it for today!!! Meow!

The lack of features of the game maker is the reason why RPG maker is relatively cheap~ :3

Not everyone will agree on what features are to be implemented, some enjoy simple while other enjoy complex~

Some like FBS while others enjoy SBS. Anyway the whole point is, the way the maker is designed is meant to serve as a base where you can add anything without complications.

If you add stuff like the Luna Menu, then scripters will have to deal with methods that might be incompatible for example. Remember everyone have different tastes in game making so that's the reason there are multiple scripts out there~

There are some decent tutorials on scripting on Youtube and some external references about scripting in this forum or others for example, I'm sorry they don't give instant results but it's best to learn one thing at a time. Scripting is not exactly an easy thing to do~ :)

Heh, and I just have a book saved in Amazon xD

@Minerva-Belle - Yeah, I agree :), but there are certain features that would be awesome and necessary to have (which is not just adding a new battle system or something of the sorts, of course) which outweigh the consequence of having the engine higher price, which is something like support for more platforms, better performance (maybe add GPU support, which by now it almost depends all on the CPU, that would make things a lot faster, and, making things more efficiently definitely increase performance) and maybe better online support, which by now, it takes good skill and only a few do it, and it takes a pain also to make it, and takes a lot of time and such, which would be reasonable to do, and also open doors for more advanced online things :)

Thanks Marsigne for the book link! I might actually get the book! I guess it's pretty logical that vx ace is cheap because it is not as powerful. If it where as powerful as Adobe it would be non affordable for me!

I found that RPG Maker is satisfy me more than its annoyance.

I just need to change some of the default script. So I could make my own game mechanic without reinventing the wheel too much.

Ruby has become my favorite programing language of all, and I know quite a few! That said maybe it's because I know quite a few that I can really appreciate a lot of Ruby's features which can be kinda obscure if you are not used to thinking about things in a computer sciencey way. The help file has some good info (about Ruby in general and also RGSS in particular), but if you want a good (but extremely silly) tutorial on Ruby try this! It has cartoon foxes!

I think probably the worst thing about RPG Maker VX Ace for most people is lack of fully customized map layers and stuff. When you compare the map editor to, say, Tiled, or even RPG Maker XP, there are a lot of things missing. Yes, I know Tiled is way too complicated sometimes, but there is very little excuse not to be able to define layers at least.

I also kinda wish the database editor had a way to  add custom fields more easily. As it is the only way to add custom info to the database is to use the note field or use external files. The note field works well enough, but each script basically needs to write it's own parser for it (unless you just use a generic one like I do).

Also there is no excuse for it to not work on linux. Come on at least it should work for wine. Also being open source would be nice... yeah right like that's gonna happen.

But really RPG Maker VX Ace is pretty old and it's not a real game development environment anyway, so I don't know what I should expect really.

I'm going to say scripting, because the default script is a huge black box to me. If I understood it better, I could probably script better.

Ya RPGMakerVxAce is a really good rpg making engine(I got to say so myself). It was only those two things that could be added on. Other than that IT IS THE BEST RPG PROGRAM EVER!!! I agree with Volke Locke, the scripting is hard. Right now i'm still learning(my progress speed 5 mph). Meh it is so hard. RPGMakerVxAce should make a scripting guide book.

wow no one as said this. A redo button for all those times you accidentally click undo due to the spot it is put in right next to the map button.
