I want to call it Paradox Mapping

My brain is weird sometimes. I want to say "paradox mapping" when I mean "parallax mapping". This is really just because they both start with par and end with x, I believe.

My relationship with parallax mapping is a weird one, anyway. I have this strange love/hate thing with it. I love the way it opens up the world to new ideas and stuff, I mean--that's great! But I can't stand the rules that have to go around with it. In the back of my mind, there's always a small voice claiming "There has to be an easier way!" though I think that copy/pasting is about as easy as you can get with it.

And I'm always trying to cram too much into the map, too. I think about my own house, with stuff littering the counters and piling up in strange places around the edges of my living space, but in games that's usually too much for the eye to take in (I think so, in any case). Still, it's a great way to show the lives and personalities of the characters without even writing one line of dialogue!

The misnomer is 100% correct as far as I'm concerned. I just can not seem to get the hang of the whole process, even after reading and watching the tutorials lol

It's not easy! I'll do and redo maps time after time until I get it the way I want it. I think that MV might have helped some with map making (I wish I had the funds to get it for myself and see) but right now, I just have to deal with paradox--er, parallax.

Really "Paradox Mapping" is a hack. It's a cheep way to get past limitations of the engine. But, I mean, if your going to use a huge image for your map why not just... draw a background image for your map? If you want to use tiles and stuff, I rather script it to load multiple maps on top of each other. I have done that before once, and I think some other people have made scripts for it. Seems like a better solution to me!

That's true, but when you're a college senior, you wake up one morning with the innate ability to master all things cheap. :D It's a blessing that allows you to stay alive.

Really it doesn't bother me, other than the occasional ragequit with Photoshop (though I do love me some good Photoshop time every now and again). It's just very time-consuming. I must confess, even being a programmer I have to say that sometimes, other people's scripts leave me shaking my head and scratching my chin in confusion. Sometimes I can muddle it out, but I think that's more my inexperience with Ruby rather than their inability to write a good script. That being said... my OCD for neat orderly scripts makes me cringe when I see some of these like please clean up your script why is there so many variables you don't use what is going on here
