BY READING PASS THIS, YOU AGREE YOU ARE MATURE ENOUGH TO HANDLE THIS!

Harmony is a new robot/doll that came out. It's main purpose is to be Sex Bot or is also referred to as Sex Doll. However, the company took it up a notch (well, maybe a lot of notches) as it now has artificial intelligence that's actually pretty cool.

"Harmony smiles, blinks and frowns. She can hold a conversation, tell jokes and quote Shakespeare. She’ll remember your birthday, what you like to eat, and the names of your brothers and sisters. She can hold a conversation about music, movies and books. And of course, Harmony will have sex with you whenever you want."

This is how she looks. She will be on the market for $15,000.

The reviews for it (from what I was told) are a lot of people who are...

1. Guys not good in social skills

2. Friendzoned guys

3. Guys who gave up on dating

4. Mentally Ill people

5. People whose girlfriends/wives have died and they can't get over it

6. Couples who want the fantasy threesome

7. Lesbians

8. Straight women who want to experiment

I am for it; I feel if yo want it then you can have it. One complaint was that rapists would use this to cope with their "rapiness" (idk how to explain) which is kinda dumb because I would rather a rapist have sex with a robot/doll then doing it to an actual person.

Another complaint was that it reinforces the idea that women are just there for their bodies. I will make the argument that people will always cherish relationships with other people, even other women (unless they are sexist). And you can't act like women don't have dildos. Yes, they don't talk, but if they did, I doubt that argument would be made again. Considering Harmony is really new, it will be time before they make a guy version.

While on this argument, the add-on argument was that its the "perfect date" and men can pretend to care for human interaction with a woman. Let me tell you, Harmony could be everyone. What that tells me is that you can't hold a conversation, can't be talked to about music, movies, etc., you won't remember his birthday, you never remember what he likes to eat, and you won't ever have sex with him. Any boyfriend, girlfriend, wife, or husband can be that. Heck, best friends have most of that except for sex (usually).

Like anything, off-topic subjects always ends up somehow getting into everything. For example, the argument I just told you about came from a Feminist, so therefore, the Anti-Feminists came in. Part of what the Feminist said was that feminism is to show women don't need men. Anti-Feminists said "and men don't need women." Generally, the Anti-Feminists (including women) were saying "keep your dildos, you don't need men; do what you do. We will do what we do." And, I'm not going to lie, I don't even know what the Feminists are trying to do. Women got sex machines, vibrating dildos, squirting dildos, so I don't get how there is no outrage on that. *shrug*

So there is a social and moral question to whether the Sex Bot is right. I believe, in both counts, that it is right and that it should be in the market. Now, I'm not saying put it in the bread section of Walgreens; if I had to guess, it'll be order online only because I don't see a store putting that in public with a sign like "Sex Doll for $15,000!."

With all of that, are you for or against the idea of sex dolls to this extent? Explain why on the moral and social standard. Then, if your closest friend had one, how would you react? What will you say or do, and why?

Eh, seems like a silly gimmick to me. I really don't get the point of all half the silly AI things people are making these days, not only this but normal robots and even digital assistants have this silly promise like it can be your friend when it can barely pass the Turing test. Plus look at it. If you ask me it's pretty deeply in the uncanny valley twice over, not only for the fake plastic skin and the way it moves but also the blatantly silly body type based on frankly dumb porn industry standards of 'attractiveness'. I frankly rather screw with a plush toy, at least they seem snuggleable. No really, specially modified plushies are hella sexy.

But is it somehow unethical to try and make things like this? Not really. I can see the arguments for it encouraging the objectification of woman and being used as a replacement for real human contact, but that's really more about how such a thing might be used then an argument about the thing it's self being unethical and even then if it's a safe fantasy that doesn't harm anyone there is nothing wrong with it. Not that their aren't possibly problematic issues at play, but it's really just a fancy toy, and if attracts a particular creepy crowd it's more likely they were creepy far before they ever heard of this thing.

@Vectra

It's kinda weird to say that my childish side becomes tingled with something that's the exact opposite of what people would expect for a child.

I don't really have too much to comment regarding Harmony and the robot's purpose of creation, although if you ask where do I stand in the spectrum, I'll be honest and say that I'm leaning toward an agreement with you, for mostly the same reason as you.

Although, I'm not saying that I'm gonna buy it, and if I do buy something like Harmony, my purpose would be pure curiosity since I've been interested in the advancement of AI and robotics for a long time. Seeing something like this, of course my interest is piqued.

If anything, I'm just one of the guys who just optimistically watch and see the advances of technology.

Feminists would say it objectives women, and conservatives would say it´s a part of the continual break down of traditional families. As for me, do what you want and sell what you want. As long as you don´t hurt others in the process, I don´t care. I´m a pretty liberal guy.

Wellllll, it's main purpose is to be a sexbot. It's like if they had a male version. It would obviously use body types the normal human can't even thinking about becoming. And i think its "important parts" aren't metal. I'm guessing, like many male sex toys, its probably made of something thats soft and warm. Not that I tried any but I've seen the Ads lol

And I'm just thinking about someone having sex with a plush toy as it makes that squeaky sound XD

Tbh, I only see it creepy if you're doing it purely for sexist reasons. Do you know how ppl have crushes on game characters or may have imaginary boyfriend/girlfriend? Harmony is like that but in real life.

I kinda wanna buy it just for that. Ask her random questions like "Does pizza have cheese on it?" just to see what she'll say XD

"What's puberty?"

"What is 9,456 * 3,967?"

"What's used to make barbecue?"

I'm that nerd that'll buy a bunch of Harmonys and pretend their my knights.

I'm pretty conservative, and I believe that neither will happen because people will always value human interaction. Both sides you have mentioned may not think so, but it's what I think. Heck, people who don't have friends go online to get them so they'll have human interaction, so I doubt society will get stale.

Reminds me of that video with the pig and chicken rubber squeaky toys XD

"Pineapples or anchovies?"

"Will I get the 14* Rare Drop today?"

"When will the world end?" (It'd be bloody hilarious if she replied something like "It should be done tomorrow.")

Coincidentally, I'm listening to the song Borderless from PSO2, which seems kinda fitting...

My point isn't that it's unrealistic, it's that it's just not that sexy to me. I mean, I am an omnisexual so I would probobly do it anyway if I was in the mood, and I certainly find the idea of sexbots to be appealing, but this one doesn't appeal to me. It's a caricature at best and probobly downright creepy looking in motion. Plus I never cared for that kind of forced sexiness anyway, all the make up and lips and stuff. It's also really boring. All and all looks like it was designed by and for just another horny frat boy with no subtly or grace. Probably was.

And. hehe, yeah, I could totally see that squeaking plush thing. ...The idea is kinda hot actually!

Really the creep factor isn't sexism so much as the whole "being able to do whatever I want to this human shaped object" thing. Also remember what I said in the comments here? It applies.

That sounds like it would get old reeeeeeally fast. I mean haven't most people already done that with Siri or whatever? I know I played with chatbots before and tried to make them say dumb or sexual stuff. It's fun for a while, but more frustrating and silly then anything.

Yeah, but 'human interaction' and 'I'm horny' don't have to have anything to do with each other. Not that I disagree with you about the overblown talk of society collapsing because of sexbots or anything. But the fact is, not very many people care that much about sex anyway, and AIs still haven't passed the Turing test and are pretty boring to talk to.

If it can retain stupid rapists doing bad things and help by countering some prostitution network (for example, if a dude go to the prostitute of his street every week, it might be worthier to buy Harmony for him on the long term and less dangerous in term of sexually transmittable malady, so the prostitute and all his network lose money, u see what i mean ?), i think it's definitely worth it to make this project real.

Yeah she's a women, gonna do some feminist war etc. But to be honest... TO BE HONEST : Do you really think it's worth fighting versus that when it can save girls by acting as an anti-rape ? I really don't care about this thing even if i think it's not really good for the image of the women. But who cares fighting this when you have something really useless known as Kim Kardashian and some others celebrities like that which make a really REALLY bad image of women and do it without helping in anything at all ?

For me feminist lose their time fighting this.

So here is my conclusion about the sex part of this thing : Yeah it's bad for the image of the women, but it could be more usefull than any bitch-celebrities which makes some bad images of the women too.

About the mechanic and Artificial Intelligence part, i'm interested about what she can do, what are her limits ? Can she won a chess game versus a noob ? On the other part, do they managed to didn't have any sound coming from mechanisms when it moves ? If yes, how ? There is a lot of questions and it could be a huge step for all the robot industries. (next step : do some laws for robots ?)

What if you're a undefeated master chess player and you lose to Harmony lol I guess you won't have to worry about her telling everyone else.

I don't keep up on Celebrities. I tend to dislike them one way or another *shrug*

On the feminist stuff, wouldn't it be better considering it'll be easier for them to pick a guy who doesn't view a woman as an object? If you had 99 "sexists" and 1 good guy, wouldn't many of the "sexist" pick Harmony leaving the girl with a better chance of picking the right one?
