THE STRANGEST THING HAPPENED LAST NIGHT...

THE STRANGEST THING HAPPENED LAST NIGHT...

I have a window by my computer that I look out occasionally. I was working late last night, as you do, trying to get a few things done. At around 3 AM, I hear a strange noise outside it. Out of curiosity, I looked outside. There wasn’t anything out there, but the power flickered. I frantically tried to get my document back up, and as I got it back, I head the sound again. I looked out again. Still nothing. I went back to working. It was probably just some animal, after all. Those are common here, after all. A few minutes later, the noises got louder. A strange, scratching noise just outside the window. I sighed, and I looked out the window again. I saw a shadow quickly dart past the window the second I saw it. It was roughly the size of your average man, but it moved too fast for me to tell just what it was… At that point, or any point after. I couldn’t shake an uneasy feeling as I got back to my document, but I tried my best to ignore it. It was late, and I just wanted to finish this so I could go to bed and rest easy, knowing my work was done. A few minutes later, the noise came back at another window. I ignored it, and the noise kept going. The longer I left it, the louder it got until I had no choice but to go see what was making it. I saw the shadow dart past again. Soon, it was just outside the front of my house.

Before I continue, I should mention that I live in a town with surrounding wooded areas. Most of the people here are hunters. Deer, birds, rabbits, fish, you name it. Birds, rabbits and even deer come into town all the time. I’ve seen and heard them. I’ve heard people complain about the deer and the rabbits eating their gardens.

I looked out the window and saw what looked vaguely like a human figure, and what looked like what might be a deer, standing side by side. As my eyes adjusted and the two figures got closer to my window, I realized that those weren’t a deer and a human. His fingers were too long, his eyes were too big, and black like endless wells that burrowed deep into my soul and tickled my worst fears. His too wide mouth was curved into a horrifying grin of sharp teeth, and as he came closer, touching the window, he licked it with his long, thin tongue that was way too long to be in any human mouth. The thing that definitely wasn’t a deer… Anymore… was staring at me with soulless red eyes. Fur had been ripped off of it in patches… And no deer’s legs bent like that.

I close my curtain and ran upstairs, grabbing my phone to call the police. I dialled, but nobody answered the phone. I didn’t hear the noises for the rest of the night, and I didn’t sleep at all.

Today, I went into town. The conversations weren’t about the weather. They weren’t about gardens or what had been eating them. They were about missing pets, missing cows, missing horses, cats, dogs… And strange noises in the middle of the night.

Personally I am more curious then scared, but then I am a fairy after all. I would want to capture them and see what they were! Maybe a blanket to throw over the human one and something heavy to beat it with? Come on, ya didn't have a heavy shovel handy or something? The deer one was probobly in bad shape already, but I would be careful around it anyway. Where around was this exactly? In the US or Canada somewhere or somewhere else? Part of me jumps to the word Wendigo to describe at least the human-like one, though I am not sure why. If it was, I think more humans would be missing anyway. The deer could just be rabid and wounded, then again so could the human thing. Of course even if they were, that doesn't mean they weren't dangerous!

Maybe I will come find you and hang around to see for myself. You won't see me of course, I would stay just far enough ana or kata to not be able to be seen by most things. But maybe, if you are lucky, you might hear me giggling at night while I watch you. *Grins a little too widely*

Also: Fun fact about being ana or kata of someone: It doesn't only mean I wouldn't be able to be seen, but I couldn't be touched by anything that doesn't know how to turn trength-wise. But I could touch other things... In fact, I could reach right past things that would be solid in 3D space, like in a safe... or a ribcage. Hehe, don't worry, I wouldn't do that to you... but I am not the only one who can move in more then three dimensions. Have fun with that idea. :3

I live in the northern US nearby to Canada in a predominantly Scandinavian area. Fitting as I myself am Norwegian/American. Wendigo could be an interesting word for... Whatever the thing was. But you're right, I think more people would be missing if this was indeed the case. I am unsure of what was wrong with the deer one, but it was

I hope I am entertaining enough for you! Many find me strange or boring, so I hope I do not bore you.

Spoiler

Fun fact: My short horror stories are actually things I remember from my dreams. Nightmares, at least.

You do seem to live around the right area for Wendigos at least. Scandinavian area eh? Us fairies have a lot of history with Scandinavian people you know. We are related to elves after all! Oh! Ever heard of the Wild Hunt? I think it's called Oskoreia in Norway. Us fairies take part in it a lot!

Anyway as for the deer I think you forgot to fini

Well, if you caught my interest you probobly are strange! But I like strange things, as I am sure you can tell. I haven't gotten bored of you yet, so you must not be boring!

@Kayzee Most people only see in two or two and a half dimensions at any given time.

RE: DEPTH PERCEPTION; RE: VANAKARA DEPTH

@Verdiløs Games I read it earlier, reminded me of Slenderman, noodly limb meme ghast mid-2000's jumpscares.

I was also convinced for a bit that this was something that had happened for real. Seriously, why, lolz

It's not about being able to 'see in more dimensions' exactly, it's about being able to turn yourself to be able to look in more directions. I mean, imagine you only knew how to look up or down or left and right. That wouldn't let you see a large part of what's around you, but how much you could see at once wouldn't change. If your able to look ana and kata you can't really see more at once, but it's like being able to look left, right, up, and down when you could only look left and right or up and down before. Even so, it's usually better not to rely on sight alone.

Vanakara Depth: Seeing with your ears and eyes simultaneously. It's better than seeing in more than two directions. It's how radar works.

I use VKD where my depth perception fails, but it doesn't work for everything. What I meant by not seeing in more than two or two and half dimensions is entirely based on the oculus focus. When one looks at any one given thing, everything else blurs. It's not true three dimensional sight, and such is not possible with only two fixed eyes. For example, most beings with exoskeletons have multi-focal vision and/or multiple eyes, and can see in several dimensional focuses. Several species of spiders can independently move their eyes to see multiple things at once at different levels of focus. It's not just insects and arachnids either; most reptiles and amphibians have some form of multi-focal vision too. Of course, where that fails, their VKD is far superior, and with most insects, their VKD is akin to that of some of the scariest sci-fi creatures ever imagined by people (Predator for one example).

The event sounded very familiar, so I looked it up. How is it to participate in this event? Do you fight alongside the dead and elves? Have you met Odin?

It seems I did! haha I meant to say was that the deer one was disturbing.

I am glad I do not bore you!

You thought it was real? Wow! I am kind of happy it was so convincing. haha

And Slenderman. I have never actually read Slenderman, but I have heard of the things he has inspired.
