On the surface, it could have been our world… Ignorance is bliss, as they say…

On the surface, it could have been our world… Ignorance is bliss, as they say…

The general populace believes magic is nothing but a fantasy, just the work of performers and writers entertaining us. However, scratch that veneer of normalcy and you would see a far different story…

You see, behind the scenes magic is everywhere. A secret society, so secret that no-one outside the organization even knows its name, rules this world. Using magic, they manipulate those in positions of power. Their methods are the definition of cruelty. Defy them and those close to you die mysteriously, try to tell anyone and not only do they die, but so do you, and your very existence is erased from the memories of those around you.

Example:

3 politicians are preparing for an upcoming vote that will decide national policy. The Society wants a particular result.

All 3 politicians receive the same note, found lying on their desks, the room still sealed right up until they walked in.

The note reads something like this: "You will vote for us. The result will be (x). If you fail us you WILL regret it!"

Politician A agrees to go along with the note's instructions, nothing happens to him or his family.

Politician B and C both refuse, the next morning their beloved children won't awaken, all they do is writhe and scream in agony and the doctors can find nothing to cause it or to treat.

Politician B capitulates and agrees to vote the way they want, that very afternoon his child awakens and is fine.

Politician C still refuses to give in. He and his family vanish, no record or memory of them remain to the public, only to the Society.

------------------------------------

This is what your main character must face... Fate is a cruel mistress...

Care to join him in the fight for freedom?

While the majority of people are only touched indirectly by the effects of magic and never even know about it, some are not so lucky. Learning of it is the beginning of the end, very few survive, and those that do are divided into one of four groups. Of these four, you either join them and rule from the shadows, or live in terror, waiting for the day they come for you.

If you can conceal your knowledge, you can live a semblance of normalcy as long as you don’t slip up.

However, fail to keep the secret and you can only hope for a life of ridicule as the local “conspiracy nut†if you are lucky.

Those that remain are the ones who have magic and resist the Society’s control.

This is the story of one young boy’s struggle to live in freedom after learning the horrible truth about the world he lives in…

This sounds somewhat similiar to the story for my current project in various ways, you've caught my attention with this and I now I want to read more.

The dark theme of this story is what interests me the most mind you, I'm wondering how you'll put this story together.

Thanks, but it is the same one I told about in the last blog. The one I used as an example here of a young hero that people were complaining was too young for such a dark theme.

I don't think age has anything to do with a fantasy story, it's all coming from the imagination and has no bearing on what we consider reality so it wouldn't make much difference if the protagonist were 5 or 800 - That's just my view of it mind you.

There's no such thing as 'too young' in a fantasy story, if a dark empire (Example) were to try taking over a fantasy world then everyone on that world would be involved, young and old alike.

Just putting my thoughts into words in regards to that.

Quite frankly I agree with you on that score.

I can expand some more on my reasoning behind the heroes being just in their preteens through early teens if you are interested. Otherwise I'll leave it for another blog.

I think another blog entry would be better for that, keeps all the information organized - That's more my personal preference for reading actually.

Quick Note: The only reason I posted in this comments section was because I'm most interested in the story of games and anything directly related to it, that includes characters.

Lol, I have it all worked out on a Word doc now, maybe I should make a new blog right away instead of waiting! :P
