Heya and welcome back to my crazy run of contests. This one is going to be both wildly different and much more fun (maybe) than anything I've done before, so make sure to read this topic in full!

The basic rundown for this contest is to make something in 1 month. Yes that's right, you can make anything.
This includes but is not limited to:

A fantastic piece of artwork, or a collection of art pieces.

A fantastic music track, or an album of tracks.

An imaginative game showcasing your game developing abilities (Read on for more details)

A general utility script/program that you have designed.

Any combination of the above, presented in a logical and concise way (Bonus points if it's all presented nicely basically)

Anything else you can think of.

	Judges:
Judging for this contest will be faaairrrlllyyy complex, and as with the previous Indie in a Week contest, the judges will be semi-anonymous, and all handpicked by me.
FAQs and Misc Details:

Almost anything goes! You can submit anything at all as your entry as long as it is able to run/be viewed on Windows 7 or above. (Mac/Linux applications will not be accepted).
In addition please do not submit a .psd file. Not everyone owns Photoshop!

Regarding asking for help:

You may ask other people for help with your project, however they cannot do it for you. They can point out errors in your code/image/whatever and give constructive criticism, but they can't make something and have you pass it off as your own. Plagiarism will not be accepted!

Regarding resources used: (IMPORTANT!)
Everything submitted must be your original work owned by you.
With the exception of an engine's RTP/Default Assests (Including premade scripts that COME WITH then engine. Nothing external.), all resources used in your creation must be made by you and within the time limit. With regards to images this doesn't include techniques/brushes/whatever, as long as you don't copy/paste from your old work.
External/freely available resources MAY NOT be used.

Tips:

Play to your strengths! If you're a natural gamedev, make a game!. If you're a talented artist, draw something!. If you're a skilled musician, make a track(s)! If you're a programmer/scripter, make a program/script/plugin (Resources can be submitted!)

This contest was designed to be open to everyone, so don't be afraid to sign up, even if you don't finish on time, you made something you can be proud of!

Please put any and all questions in this topic. It's a fairly new concept so don't be afraid to ask if anything is unclear (I've likely missed something out so please ask)
Sorry if the timing is a bit awkward, it was going to be later but then things happened so here we are.

Happy <strike>game</strike> making!

My birthday is on Halloween, so I decided (maybe a bit early :P) to host my first ever game jam to help hype things up! You can make a game that is using any engine and of any genre, you just have to follow the theme:

	SKELETON WAR

The jam itself runs from Sept 5th to Oct 20th, with voting open to the public on submissions. The top five or less, depending on how many submissions there are, as voted by the public will be showcased on my special Halloween Birthday stream on Oct 31st. Of those 5, three will be picked for prizes! Up for grabs are a $50, $25, and a $10 dollar (CAD) Steam gift card!

Follow the link for full information and rules: https://itch.io/jam/hawkzombie-halloween-birthday-jam

Also, if you are interested in becoming a judge, let me know! I need 2-3 more people.

Thanks for looking! Any questions or comments, just let me know!

To give new and long time devs a short project to stretch their creative muscles on. I want you to actually FINISH a game and have it in your portfolio.

The Theme of the Timed Challenge:

Firstly: the game has to FINISH within 30 minutes. It can end earlier, but a Victory/Failure condition must occur at the 30 minute mark. Secondly: The game must feature some kind of timer - up to you what that means.

Do we have to make a game within 30 minutes?
--The length of the game should be capped at 30 minutes. The game can have a victory condition or failure condition that is less than 30 minutes if you like, but the game itself should last no more than 30 minutes as per the rules.
--The time it takes you to dev it merely has to be within the two weeks. You can take 1 hour, 10 minutes, 2 weeks. Put as much love and work into that 30 minute game as you want.

Does the game have to contain a timer? Is the timer the main theme?
-- Yes. How prominent the timer is in your game is up to you. Where its located - also up to you. BUT the game must feature a timer. AND 15 points of the judging will be based on your use of the timer.

Can I use other people's resources?
-- As long as they are free to use and ARE NOT timer related.

Is this a commercial project?
-- umm...? I don't think so? Does contest = commercial? If you plan on selling your entry or using it as part of a commercial project I guess it would, but otherwise I think you're ok on terms of use for non-commercial resources. Don't know exactly.
Hey All,

So there's been some discussion going around recently about mixing up the type of competitions available on the site and so I'd like to get some sort of direction going so we can actually proceed with it.

I think the first question is, really, what kind of art would people like to make? Would it be physical or digital? And which type would it be again after determining which of those two broad categories.

Prizes are another thing. Forum badges can probably be arranged but what kind of other things would people like; would people still be happy with random Steam keys?

And lastly, one thing that was, very astutely, mentioned was how many people would actually participate in an art competition? Its much more specific than a general game dev one and this site does better suit that kind of competition anyways. When answering this one please also state whether you would be interested in entering only specific art competitions or whether you would enter any and all.

Perhaps, I'll add a poll later when some of the details have been firmed up. For now if you could just answer the above and add any other questions or concerns you feel are pertinent then hopefully we can get one of these running again soon.

Hey there! remember the other four contests? Well it's hard to believe, but it's already been a year since all this began!
In a celebration of that year of Game Dev, I've tried my hardest to make this the best contest yet!

A lot has changed compared to previous contests, so I highly recommend you check out the text below
This is not in a spoiler to emphasize the fact that you should read it all.

Basic Outline:
The main concept is simple. You must make a game. In a Week. By yourself. While you are allowed to have people playtest your game and give feedback, you must be the only one creating the actual content that goes into the game. More on this below.

Any Game Making engine is accepted, as long as the submitted game runs on Windows 7 and above. If your game is not an exe file, please include instructions on how to access/play it. You can even make a browser game, as long as it works on either Firefox or Chrome, again on Windows 7 or above. (If your web game requires a specific browser out of those two, please specify for the judges. Judges are not expected to use any other browser.)

Please don't think you have to cram a full-length saga into a week, your game can be of any length, however it is recommended to keep it below one hour (More details below)
Once the game making period is over, the games will be given a score out of 60 (More details below), and will be ranked according to their score.
The developers of the games that place 1st, 2nd and 3rd will receive a prize from the prize pool below. They will also be given a forum award to be displayed on their profile, which will be made soon.

Judges:
I'm covering Judges first, because this is the part where the differences from previous IIAWs come into play.
In past contests, I accepted anyone as a judge, but I have now realized how that is not as good of an idea as it seems.
As such, I will be reaching out to certain individuals asking if they would like to judge for the contest, and if they do then they will be judging. Simple.
If you still have an urge to be a judge anyway, please send me a PM outlining why you would make a good judge, and I may consider it.

The judges this time will also be semi-anonymous. That is, I will not be giving a list of judges, however if a judge wishes to tell people they are judging for the contest, that is perfectly okay. Because of this, there will be no judges list here, just this text.
And in case anyone is interested, yes I will be judging for the contest, as I always do, as well as overseeing the judging, and verifying that there is no false judging or bias.
All of this is in the hopes of eliminating unfair judging, and ensuring that your games get the scores they deserve~

Prizes:
Oh look, more differences with past contests.
This contest will have one big prize pool, which will not be completely depleted at the end of the contest, all prizes not taken will be carried over to IIAW6.

If you have anything spare that could be a prize (Like a steam key, any kind of gift or a free commission), please PM me.
Scoring:
Let's keep this brief since i'm short for time.
Basically, unlike every other IIAW, there will be no theme or twist in Indie in a Week 5.
Some people need a theme to get going, in which case, just pick something random and go with it I guess [shrug]

The more in-depth scoring details will be released later. All I know at the moment is that it is in three categories, giving a total out of 60.
Since the given time is just in a week, we'll be lenient on infrequent minor typos (and I ask that the judges do the same).

Repeated minor issues such as typos or wrong tiles will result in a few points taken away. Try not to be too harsh with this, judges.
Major issues which affect gameplay will also decrease from the total score. Judges, try to use your judgement with this.
A game breaking problem which prevents continuing will hold a fixed penalty of 10 points, with additional points maybe being lost in categories if content is missed.
Any issue upon loading the game (such as missing files or broken intro scenes) will mean you are disqualified!

Please remember to playtest your game all the way through to completion at least once before submitting it, to make sure it works as you intended!

<What about length? What's stopping someone from holding up judging with a 60 hour grinding masterpiece? And when does a judge stop judging?>

About length, the game can be realistically any length. However don't expect anything over an hour to be judged. A judge can stop when either they reach the end, are stopped by a bug, or reach 1 hour. They don't have to stop over an hour, but after that point they can quit any time without a reason.

For judges, If you believe a game is frustrating or unplayable you can also stop, but make sure to tell me your reason if you stop early. Just don't stop because it's a battle system you don't enjoy or anything like that.

<So I notice this is INDIE in a Week, does that mean you're not allowed teamwork? What about other people playtesting?>
Ah, this old topic, this one got much debate before. Basically, anyone actually working on the game (Creating maps, events and enemies etc...) is not allowed except for you and you alone.[/b] This is a one man army challenge, a team would throw it all off balance. You can brainstorm with other people, and bounce ideas off them, as long as the one doing everything is you.
As for others playtesting, sure. They can even give you bug reports and stuff too, as long as they don't actually fix the bugs in your project and send it back. You must be the one who does the actual editing and "work" of the game.

<So I've gotta do all of this, in a single week? I'll never make it, I'll end up procrastinating or getting caught up in real life situations >
Ah, about that. I'm not looking for the next Final Fantasy, I don't expect a fully fledged RPG in a week, heck I don't even expect that in a month. But what I do want is your best shot. If you're short for time you could always cut it short. The games I like best in past Indie in a Week contests were short, sweet and concise. For a (terrible) example, check out Glory Quest which I made in a single hour!

And as for real life, I understand that sometimes (well, most of the time) these situations are unavoidable. My only advice is this, be prepared. If the contest dates just happened to land on the days where you have to do something important, I apologize. But, we can't really do anything about that once the dates have been decided.

You should have something ready, don't wait until the last minute to submit. Try to get it in at the very least a few hours beforehand. You don't' need to squeeze out every second of game development, some of the best games for previous IIAW contests were submitted days before the deadline.

Remember, you could always update your game as long as it's still in the game-making period.
However, updating/changing your game link via post editing is against the rules, and you will be disqualified if you are caught doing it.
Update the file, keep the link.

<What resources can I use?>
You can use any public resources, <strike>and even commissions</strike> (Rule changed 08/09/2016) as long as you have the author/artists permission to use it in a contest. Despite the lack of cash prizes, some may consider a contest like this to be commercial use, so tread carefully.
Resources ripped from other games are not allowed, since they're illegal.

<Can I make my own resources for my game before the contest starts?>
As for your resources, anything made before the contest is fair game, you can use any of it since you obviously have your own permission.
However, if you make the resources with the intention to use it for your game that will be submitted for this contest, you cannot use it. Anything that you make solely for your contest game before the contest starts is not allowed. You would be effectively be "working" on your game for more than a week.

Sure, you can say you intended to use it for another game, and this just happened to come by. If that's the truth, okay.

But if you started to make things after this topic was posted and before the contest starts with the intention of using it in your contest game later... Well, we can't stop you. Nor can we read your intentions and know the truth. But keep in mind that you'll be cheating.

<Does that mean I can't think up of concepts/story for my game?!>
You can, don't worry. (We can't stop you from thinking!)

Tips:
- Don't spend days thinking up of the idea. You can start with a simple one and go from there. Just start, and you might even get ideas more easily!
- Start small. Don't plan too much features. We're not expecting a full length game. In fact, we're expecting very short games. Games that can be made in a week.
- Having more content in your game is important, so focus on that. Again, don't spend too much time thinking what's the "absolute best" (or something like that) you can fit in before you even do it/anything.
- If you're running out of time, don't be afraid to cut it short and wrap it up quickly! A game that feels complete is better than a game that feels like an unfinished demo.
- "Most importantly... don't procrastinate!" ~ Eien

Outro:
Yo, this topic was kinda rushed, because of life and fun stuff.
If you have any issues of questions about the rules, please reply in this topic. Usually I never minded before, but this time please don't PM me unless you have steam keys to give or want to be a judge.

I almost definitely missed something, so let me know. I will also elaborate more closer to the time.
Thank your for understanding, sorry for any inconvenience and happy game making!

okok, I bet you all we'rent expecting me to post this were you?

But alas, here we are.

I've noticed a lot of month-long contests happening around (not these forums) so I was wondering what would happen if we were to do one like IIAW, but in a month?
The rules and things would be the same, just with a month instead of a week to spice things up.

Since this is an interest check and isn't fully planned yet, there is no estimated date, probably around the time IIAW6 should be starting though. (month or two maybe)

So that's that, i'd be more than happy to answer any and all questions you have,

Thanks! ^u^

Had an idea along the lines of Indie in a Week, but much shorter and more frequent. Will start up a poll later about this. Details are below:

-Create a Game within 24-48 hours.

-Special themes each time

-Held once or twice a month (I would organize each one)

-1 week sign-up period, followed by the contest and two or three days of judging

-Prizes to the top three (Standard competition stuff)

[Credits to Blindga for this lovely image. Wait, this is an icon? It resembles an excellent poster!]

Also shameless stealing the thread format of a more traditionally loved contest because that format is just plain perfect.

Hello, my dear Central! It is I, your exceptionally stellar and gorgeous Host One! Yes, yes, bow down to the incredibly great and heavy charismatic aura I emit so naturally, with my fluffy white hair and anime blue eyes and –

…

Oh, I’m not supposed to be like that? Um, okay! I guess I’ll cut my little introduction speech a little shorter than the hundred lines of epicness I had prepared in my brain.

As the most acute and aware of you guys will know, Host Two posted a thread earlier, asking which prizes you guys wanted in a pair-based contest game development contest! Well, I am here to make the announcement even more official by…you know, making this thread. That makes it even more public, right? At least I make it clear that this contest is happening, and that it’s starting something week, yeah?

So this contest is more or less experimental – a couple of us, and I do mean literally a couple of us, wondered about what could happen if we created a contest that just happened to fit in the middle of summer, when most people were more free than the rest of the year, that happened to involve making a game as a team? Well, let me tell you that the possibilities were just endless!

The sky’s the limit! if you can dream, you can do it! Some people dream of success, while you’re gonna wake up and work hard at it! Nothing is impossible!

But just to get straight to the point, this is more or less just a pair-based version of Indie in a Week. Of course, it’s going to last longer than a week, given the nature of communicating with another person, and all that. So, because this involves two people, which is double that of one person, we’ll double the contest time to a grand total of two weeks! Extensions may vary, but the furthest I, the magnanimous Host One who can do no wrong, will allow is eighteen days.

Of course, whether or not this will ultimately be allowed is anyone’s guess, but I’m leaving this out there for now.

Without further ado, here is the information you guys more or less were looking for!

RULES:

This is a pair-based contest, so you can only work with one other person. While there isn’t necessarily a good way to enforce this, I’m confident I don’t have to worry about that, because this is one of the most sincere community of people I’ve been in (…yes, I was being truthful! I-idiot!)

Because certain things such as assets do take time to make, we are allowing music and art to be worked on pre-emptively, before the beginning of the contest. However, we are also beginning the contest in a few days, so pairing up quickly is crucial, amongst other things. We also ask that you make your game file AFTER the contest has begun, for the sake of “competitive integrity†(I used that for lack of a better phrase). Also remember that public resources are allowed! And that you have to credit those people in your projects!

All final entries must be submitted BEFORE the announced time and date. You can submit as many entries before that final, absolute deadline, but note that the last one you submitted is that is going to be judged, and you can’t submit even a second after the clock runs out, so prepare wisely.

The project will be disqualified for any bugs that prevent the game from running at the start. Because this is a pair-based contest, we are going to have to be harsher with bugs, because you’re guaranteed at least one more bug-tester in your partner. Also, as a PSA, if there is a cockroach-sized bug in your game, you can bet that game is going down.

Again, respect copyright. If you received permission from the creator to use their assets in whatever, I would need a screenshot of said permission PMed to me for proof. Failing to do this would mean your project is also disqualified.

DATES:

So the following is the pool of prizes we have prepared for this, because even if most of you guys want to make games just for the hell of it, it wouldn’t be a contest if it didn’t have prizes. Plus, there’s more incentive for other people to join!

Third place gets the final prize in the pool, with the bronze forum award

Unfortunately, we could not expand the prize pool past this for now. This may change based on the generosities of others, which allows third place to have more variety in terms of prizes, but as it is for now, this is the pool we have...except a friendly pirate decided to share his treasures and give us another prize to work with! Arrrrrrrr!

Note that the Witcher games and the DLCs would be given through Steam. Also, if you’re a generous person and would like to expand this prize pool, PM me.
If you wish to join, mention it in a post, with your desired partner!

Judges will probably be selected after the contest begins, and will personally be approached about it. We don’t need too many judges because the number of entries will definitely be lower due to the nature of this contest, and I’d prefer to have more participants, personally!

CONTESTANTS:

Team Procrastination: (Jackus and Eien Nanashi) Consisting of the pair that hosts the contest in which this one was based off of, we have partners who manage to be both the opposite end of the spectrum and yet such similar people. What could possibly be born from such a paradox? Well, something unique, that's for sure!

Team Never Second Again: (Shiggy and Nirwanda) These two once stood against each other in a tie-breaker for second place in a recent contest, but all of us knew that they were equal in talent, yet it wasn't enough for either of them to take the first place spot. Teaming up, they have made it clear to not be second, but can two halves of two become one? Or would it become two once more?

Team Cookie Conductor Confluence: (Blindga and Cookie Ninja) The next group with the name of triple C has been born, out there to challenge the world with their ability to cast Blind upon all nearby foes and stealing cookies from the cookie jar. But wait, confluence? Collaboration is promised in that name alone, and you can bet that this pair will blind the world with their game - these cool dudes are here to make games and eat cookies, and they're almost completely out of cookies! Oh snap, everyone, hide the freshly baked cookies!

Team Saltwater Poutine: (Saltwater Croc and CVincent) They were called the admin team simply because their names signified a higher position in the Discord server. They were casted into this harsh challenge to prove that they deserved to have their names engraved in red - we called them administrators, but were they truly deserving to have ownership of such a title? Even though this contest will prove absolutely nothing about whether or not the "admin team" is a phrase to use as praise or mockery, these are the guys who are looking to bring in their A-game. Oh, and the image of poutine made all soggy because of salt water tilts me already.

Team DinoMitches: (Amysaurus and RavenBlueIndigo) This is a pair that is just as paradoxical as the first team to enter this challenge, while being infinitely more dangerous. Oh, it has absolutely nothing to do with their personalities - it's easy to see these two working together. Rather, it's what we see them as: one of them has evil in her agenda, while the other wishes to create a digital god with the power of Javascript that will rule the world through efficiency. Their first step in delivering chaos? Make the game that beats all others, for there will be nine games for the scripter-kings under the roof, seven for the art-lords in their rooms of thought, nine for game developers doomed to fail, one for the Samaritan on its throne. One game to rule them all, one game to find them, one game to bring them all and in the chaos bind them.

Team Tarqeo: (Tarq and Takeo212) This is the team whose combination of the members' names come out so cleanly, although there is a particularly gorgeous and totally genius host out there who is disappointed that they didn't take the name to the next level and called themselves Tarqeo212. Nonetheless, the name came out cleanly, and indeed, we are expecting just the same from their entry here: a game that comes out incredibly cleanly, a tight and excellent experience that could take it all. Their induction into this contest goes to show that none of us here so far appears to have a dark horse team - we're in for some excellent competition! [DROPPED OUT]

Team Evil Alliance: (Chibae and Brank) The name is indicative of a pair of super villains coming together to deliver an evil product - a game so enchanting and addicting that no one would be able to put it down after starting it up. Their goals are more unknown than the last previous group who declared their evil intentions for joining this competition, but one of them is a greater master of horror than Stephen King (not like that's too difficult), and with horror comes an imaginative mind while the other has the computer skills to make those ideas a reality. These two paired up to complement one another, as do all great villain partnerships, and while horror may not necessarily be their goal, the immersion and addicting qualities of a good horror game is definitely part of the package.

SCORING:

Each category is worth twenty points, for a total of a hundred points total. The first three categories are more cookie-cutter ratings, but the last two are the places to earn the easy points…if you asked me, at least. SSSSSSSH…don’t let anyone know I said that!

ART: For lack of a better word for this category, this is more or less the artistic side of your game. Because this is pair-based, and more time is available for your project, we expect the graphics and music to be more creative, and I use creative in more than one definition!

Even with pairs who do not necessarily have art as a skill in their team, you can win a good amount of points just by how appropriate your resources were used, or how creatively you used them. However, because this contest is about combining skillsets, and working together as a team, we have to reward those who make the extra effort to make their game at least fit their vision more appropriately.

POLISHING: Again, for lack of a better word – I bet you guys can see how truly uncreative I am – this category is here for a couple of big reasons and an infinite amount of smaller ones. The big ways to win points here is with one word: how finished is your project?

We don’t ask you to finish your game, nor do we expect it, but because you are working in pairs, we expect the games to be less bug-riddled in its gameplay, and overall more polished visually as well, in what we do see. Finishing the story with a consistent quality is also one way to be considered “polished†– this category is very flexible, and it’s up to you and your partner to think about how to make your game as finished as possible.

STORY: This feels like a weird one to judge on, but I, Host One, and Host Two concluded that it was fair to make this a category for two reasons. The first is that since we’re not involving a theme, the story isn’t constrained by some sort of rules it has to follow, meaning you and your partner are allowed to be more creative.

The second reason is just that: it’s two people who can develop this story, not one, and for that, we expect the story to be better. Not just in its concepts, but in its delivery as well. Of course, not everyone is Franz Kafka or William Falkner, but the point stands the story has to be better in some aspect simply because we got more than one person working on it.

UNIQUENESS: What makes your game stand out? This is probably the easiest category to succeed in, because there are a lot of ways to give your game an identity. Again, and this is going to hold true for next and final category, this category is here because this is a pair-based contest. Combining the minds of two people can result in a more unique game, and in most cases, it should.

Essentially, if we play your game, and say “yeah, this one is pretty unique, it stands out from other games because of these sets of qualitiesâ€, expect good ratings here.

TEAMWORK: This word was chosen only because the other four categories were one word titles, and it sounds cooler to be more uniform in this way. In the context of the contest, teamwork isn’t so much how well you work together with your partner – we can’t measure that. However, what we can measure is whether or not your project feels like something that could only be made because more than one person worked on it.

Great games in the past couple of years have developed by one-man teams, but those took years of development to really create. If we asked them to make a game in a week, they probably wouldn’t be able to create something nearly or anywhere close to being as great as fan-favorites Undertale and Dust: An Elysian Tale. We don’t expect those games from you, but we need to see the marks of it being a pair-based game – if we have two writers working on a game made entirely out of free resources, we need to see a greater quality in the story and its execution, whether it be through world-building or elsewhere.

The point is that your game has to be the result of truly combining the skillsets of two people, rather than working off the skills of just one who could’ve made the game by him or herself at some point.

FAQ/Misc. Details:

<What resources can I use?>
You can use any public resources, and even commissions (although I don't recommend it) as long as you have the author/artists permission to use it in a contest. Despite the lack of cash prizes, some may consider a contest like this to be commercial use, so tread carefully.
From this IIAW forward, resources ripped from other games are not allowed, since they're illegal.

<Does that mean I can't think up of concepts/story for my game?>
You can, don't worry. (We can't stop you from thinking!)

There is a theme however, so you'll need to implement that somehow.
It's a valid strategy to think up of some ideas so you don't have to spend time thinking when it actually starts.
You could also think up of an idea where it's easy to implement the theme somehow.

- And of course, have fun! It's the most important thing.

Happy game making!

If you have any questions, ask it here in the topic. I could have missed something (as usual).

What happens now?

---

Hello there! Do you remember the other two contests? If you do, then I've got great news, it's back again! If you've never heard of this, then here's a brilliant new contest for you to enter.

The rules are quite simple on the surface. Make a game. Simple enough? Okay now try it in a week. That's what this contest is all about.

I would spoiler all the categories but you must read everything or, something like that. Let's get started!

Q: So Jackus, who's taking part?
Glad you asked! Here is the list of people who have entered so far along with some info about their entry. (Like if they've dropped out or finished) Use this as a kind of contestant tracker. Clicking a name will take you to their profile for now. Later it will take you to their project post.

[see LISTS at top of post]

Q: And who's going to be judging these?
Good question, you could if you wanted to! That's right, the contest is judged by volunteers. (And me!) Anyone can volunteer to contribute towards the judging. Even if you're a contestant! Be aware you can't judge your own game though. That would be unfair. The overall score is an average of all the judges. You can provide reasons, although they're not required. Also I might ask you to justify your scoring so be prepared for that. Especially if you are also a contestant, I'll be keeping a closer eye on you.
[see LISTS at top of post]

Q: So, how are we being judged? What do judges need to look out for?
Well, since I lack any creativity in this section, I'm sorry to say I kind of stole the guidelines from the IGMC. But they work so well, so I guess they stay.
Here they are:

You got all that? :3

Basically, you will be scored (by the judges) in three main categories. Presentation, Gameplay, and Engagement.
But actually, it's four categories. You will also be scored in Theme (or, The Twist).
The scoring will be in a scale of 0 ~ 20 for each category, meaning you can have a maximum of 80 points.

The Theme is, well, the theme of your game. It will be announced when the game-making period starts (see below for Dates). It will be completely up to your interpretation.
Making a game completely unrelated to the theme will give you no points in the Theme category.
Taking the theme literally (basically, in a boring/predictable way) won't give you much points, either. A clever use of the theme will give you more Theme points.

Still, don't let the Theme stop you from making a game if you think you can't make up a clever interpretation. That's just 20 of the 80 points you might get a score on.

Q: Okay that's all well and good, but what if a game has a major glitch or bug? Will we be disqualified for a single mistake?
Since it's in a week, I'll be kind of lenient on minor typos, and I ask that the judges do the same. However there are a few rules.

Any issue upon loading the game(Such as missing files or broken intro scenes) will mean you are disqualified!

Please remember to playtest your game at least once all the way through before submitting it.

Q: And what about length? What's stopping someone from holding up judging with a 60 hour grinding masterpiece? And when does a judge stop judging?
About length, the game can be realistically any length. However don't expect anything over an hour to be judged. A judge can stop when either they reach the end, are stopped by a bug or reach 1 hour. They don't have to stop over an hour, but after that point they can quit anytime without a reason. If you believe a game is frustrating or unplayable you can also stop, but make sure to tell me your reason if you stop early. Just don't stop because it's a battle system you don't enjoy or anything like that.

Q: So I notice this is INDIE in a Week 3, does that mean you're not allowed teamwork? What about other people playtesting??
Ah, this old topic, this one got much debate before. Basically, anyone actually working on the game (Creating maps, events and enemies etc...) is not allowed except for you and you alone. This is a one man army challenge, a team would throw it all off balance. You can brainstorm with other people, and bounce idea off them, as long as the one doing everything is you.
As for others playtesting, sure. They can even give you bug reports and stuff too, as long as they don't actually fix the bugs in your project and send it back. You must edit everything.

Q: So I've gotta do all of this, in a single week? I'll never make it, I'll end up procrastinating or getting caught up in real life situations
And as for real life, I understand that sometimes (Most of the time) these situations are unavoidable. My only advise is this, be prepared.
You should have something ready, don't wait until the last minute to submit. Try to get it in at the very least a few hours beforehand. You don't' need to squeeze out every second of game development, some of the best games for previous IIAW contests were submitted days before the deadline.

Q: And resources? Can I use resources made by others? Can I make my own before the contest starts?
You can use any public resources, and even commissions (Although I don't recommend it) as long as you have the author/artists permission to use it in a contest. Despite the lack of cash prizes, some consider a contest like this to be commercial use, so tread carefully.

As for your resources, anything made before the contest is fair game, you can use any of it since you obviously have your own permission.
However, any resources created for the game cannot be made before the contest starts (March 1st) however, anything made in this time that wasn't for the project can be used. It's a bit weird, but use your best judgement. Or go full RTP.

Q: Okay, enough of this. Let's get down to serious talk. What do I get out of this? What do I win?
I agree, this is the most important part

All prizes are donated Steam keys, so you will need Steam to redeem them.
Hello all! I am hold a contest for those of you who enjoy writing stories!

The propose of this contest is to actually get fairy tales for books in my game. So I'll layout the rules real quick.

The stories must be in the format of no more than 45-50 characters (Letters spaces punctuation) per line and be spaced with four lines making every paragraph (The same format that text boxes follow). You may write as much as you like, splitting up your book into chapters or different books is perfectly acceptable Keep in mind your story will be in a game, so people may not wan tot read it all at once (sort of how the books in Skyrim are).

You must also include an Author's name (Can be real or fake), the name you would like put into the credits of my game (I'll give everyone whose story gets in credit, because you're awesome), Title(s) of the book(s) and denotations of when chapters or books end.

How I will chose:

I will pick the winner by how well I feel their story(ies) fit into my game. Keep in mind this is a fantasy RPG game, if you want a better feel for what sorts of things to write you can try my game out (It's called Rune Life, you can find it on this site in the gaming lounge).

Prizes:

I will then use your author's name for a quest that will involve part of your story, or perhaps a book related quest. (I'll even use a custom sprite or make one in your likeness if you want).

The Best Fit: Will receive the above mentioned prizes in addition to their story being found through out the game (in things like random books and bookshelves)

Runner ups: If more than one story is good, I will also give you credits and use your stories, but it won't be involved in a quest.

The Contest entry times will be from 12/14/2015 - 1/15/2016. I will post on the last day to tell you guys when I expect to have the winners selected and when they will be announced.

Ion, my adviser, and I has came up with the end of the series!!!

Quick summary(skip if you already know)

World of Chaos series is organized by generations. There are 6 games in each generation. The first 5 games are about 5 of the individual heroes, while the 6th one is all 5 heroes fighting the main evil. For example, the 1st generation

Hero > Opposing General
Dreg > Appopalisis
Falcon Murrine > King Shen
Cassandra > Magi Zao Zao
Menestra > Dracula
Captain Shard > Bull
All 5 > King Magnificent(Chaos God)

How to play the game!

You have to guess how many games is in this sequel. Here are some hints...

1. It's divisible by 6

2. There are no halves

3. World of Chaos Armageddon does not count

4. It's between 1 - 100

YOU CAN ONLY GUESS TWICE!

The reward for guessing it right

All who guesses it right get's to pick one of the following:

1. Pick which Armageddon do you want to be the final boss.

2. Pick which game do you want to be a special final boss(excludes Armageddon).

Note: You'll get a PM from me, if you win.

World of Chaos Armageddon

A non-canon side-story of World of Chaos

Special Bosses?

Bosses you fight after the final boss of a game

Have fun and start guessing! Ion, you can not participate lol

Like making things up? Of course you do. Well, I'm sitting on a pile of characters and, honestly, I can't come up with a story to tie them together. Luckily, I recycle stuff, so you can have siblings, and alternate costumes and family members, ect. Basically, I want to see what kind of stories can be created with my characters because no one ever has (that I know of, anyway). The best story gets made into a game, by me, with credit.

The rules are very simple:

1. Don't plagarize existing works. I realise the irony in that, but it shows a lack of talent on the writers part if all they're going to do is play Mad-libs with a Final Fantasy plot and change some details around. If you were "inspired" by another story, I don't want to hear your plot.

2. You can only use the characters you're provided with. However, this is over 100 characters, so I don't see why you'd have a problem

3. Every single one has a name. You can change it, but please indicate that somewhere so I know who you're talking about

4. no, you're not getting paid and neither am I.

5. I have a job that I'm looking to get back to full-time, so I might not be around for much longer and replies might not be immediate. You've been warned.

Well, that's that. Enjoy 1.75 mb worth of characters. Feel free to create personalities and everything, but it's not like I can't do that myself.
