That note says he really does have hands and the blades are just you being lazy right? Because seriously, blade arms? Even for a person converted into a living weapon that is ridiculously impractical. I mean not only are you vastly limiting their offensive abilities by not letting them hold other weapons, think about the weight and the balance issues, the necessary leverage and joints needing to position the blades in any useful way (especially for the larger one), and needing a hole to fit some of the arm in instead of making it a solid piece of metal would possibly make the blade too weak.

On the other hand, he looks delightfully insane. Blade arms would be something an insane person may want. =p It looks more like he slid his arms though loops and is holding a grip like in the back like a shield.

T-87 came out pretty good. Toby looks really rigid. His shoulders are perpendicular to his neck. Looks really uncomfortable. He's gonna need a shoulder rub.

I drew T-87 first and was lying down the whole time, so it's probably a result of my shoulders needing a shoulder rub. XD Actually, his father is one of those people who requires his kids to stand like that. Uncomfortable? Yes. Aesthetically pleasing to the big guy? Also yes. But yeah, he really does need one. Good thing he has a personal masseuse.

Ooooohhhhh! A bladed shield? That makes a heck of a lot more sense, but I am not sure it would be the most effective being held like that. Just try to imagine yourself actually using things like that and how you would strike with them while defending yourself. You could defend and bash things like a tower shield, but being able to but any force behind a cut might be kinda awkward.

Strapped to the forearm like a gauntlet, shield part facing outward, and blade facing back though? Able to bring the shield up to defend and bash while able to use the motion of the arm to cut with the bladed edge might work... No idea how effective it would be for real, let alone in a modern setting with guns and such, but interesting. Might be a bit to big an unbalanced, light metal or no.

What? I do a lot of thinking about weapons and how they work and how best to use them okay? I mean, magic is still the best and all, but seeing the cool things humans come up with without magic is pretty neat too.

Hehe, granted I am not an expert or anything, there are probably better experts then me. Really us fairies don't use metal weapons or armor much. Fairies tend to use specially enchanted wood, fabric, spider silk, and other natural materials instead. Naturally we tend to use staves and other pole-arms, occasionally wooden swords of some kind.

Why don't we use metal? I mean there is the whole 'cold iron' thing. Though just between you and me that often has more to do with our magnetic sense, just imagine what it would feel like if the balance sensor in your inner ear would get thrown off any time something slightly magnetic is unexpectedly waved around nearby. It can be really nauseating. Also because we really don't have any kind of mining and processing industry (look to dwarves or gnomes for that), and natural materials are so much easier for our magic to shape and enchant.

Er, I tend to spill our secrets don't I? Don't tell the other fairies I said all of that! Though I could be lying.

Heh, I got to say I like T-87's positioning. It gives a neat perspective to the eye from the weapons. I agree on the shield blades, and to be fair, they're a common weapon style, so it's not going to be shocking, but the style of how you drew it looks sweet. Great job!

As for Toby, I'm in lon's boat with this one. Otherwise, I say he looks fine.

The nice thing about fantasy is you can take some liberties with things like weapon functionality. It doesn't have to be practical in the real world or even make any sense at all. The important thing is if it works for the character, and like I said before, he looks like the type that may really enjoy having arm blades. Though after looking at it for a while, the right blade (his left) may be a bit big. It' shard to envision him using that be as effectively even if it is lightweight. Then again, that one may be more as a bladed shield and the other as a weapon. or despite his appearance he could have crazy people strength and be able to swing that thing pretty easily. Personally, I like the latter explanation because it goes against conventional logic. What better way to show insanity?

Well, I disagree. Sorta anyway. I guess as a scripter I may have an odd way of seeing it, but I tend to think of writing (or art, storytelling, worldbuilding what ever this counts as) as more then a bit like programing. Bad writing is like bad programing: Inefficient, messy, convoluted, monolithic, and filled with unintended bugs, possibly places where the bugs get so bad it causes a 'crash' ruining the suspension of disbelief. Consequently good writing is like good programing: Optimized, efficient, well commented, modular, and robust, working well under many conditions and constraints.

It isn't about being realistic or even necessarily logical, it's about speaking to the heart and mind of your audience, about conveying your ideas in a way that lets another people 'run' the 'program' that you have encoded in your words. Now some people could care less about the details of some random character's weapon. But others will inevitably 'crash' on those details. And the more it is brought up, the more the character or how it attacks become relevant, the more that 'crash' will still happen. The more a person knows and cares about the details the more they will be irritated when those details are wrong. So you kinda need to either do your best to at least try and get them right or how you can avoid detailing elements of things that may be wrong.

I mean, if you want to do something like 'Alice in Wonderland' where it's all just nonsense in the first place that's one thing (though even nonsense has a particular logic to it). If you want to have a bit of magic or other metaphysical magic-like force, well you should probably define at least some ground rules, but okay. If you are in a realistic or non-clarktech sci-fi setting NOPE! No excuse. Get it right (or as reasonably close as possible), or no sale.

To be honest, you're not wrong about the feild of writing. You have to be pristine and clear at all times, much like coding. If the code can't read your work, then what use is your script? Much like a book, if your audience can't read your style, then how well would you sell your book/how many readers would you have?

Well there is that, but that's not really what I am trying to get at. Basic understanding is just the first step. It's about more then syntax. It's about structure too. It's about function. It isn't enough to just be able to string words together well when writing, just as it isn't really enough to simply string operations together in programing. The semantics are important, the human touches, the algorithms used to reach a result.

When you are writing you are doing more then just putting words down on a page. Learning correct grammar doesn't help you very much when it comes to telling a story beyond parseability. Even gloss line tone, voice, when to use different grammatical perspectives, and so on is little more then style. The real meat of what I am talking about is the deep technical stuff, stuff that is often hard to even talk about without already understanding it on some level.

It's not an accident that programing and writing are similar btw. Because they are, in fact, the exact same thing. A program is just a story you tell a computer. The only reason computers are so much more picky and logical is because computers are not smart enough to fill in the holes humans do when being told a story (yet).

No, but it's only a matter of time till someone does. Let's hope Google gets there first and fills it's AI's head with cute cat videos and porn rather then China filling it's AI's head with state propaganda.

Maybe some people won't like it, but ya know what? You're never going to make everyone happy. I do think that giant blade should be smaller though. it looks a bit too big even for an insane person. Like that pic is when he first gets them so he's super excited, and then the next drawing would show him very disappointed because he cannot wield it properly. Like a kid who just dropped their ice cream cone. 

Yeah, but as far as I can tell he is apparently a living weapon. And while that might entail some level of crazy, there is a delicate balance between the usefully intimidating type of crazy and the annoyingly ineffectual type of crazy. I mean, you basically suggesting something much closer to something like Pyramid Head, which is scary enough to most people but would make a horrible assassin.

Bingo! You got this living weapon being developed by all these high up government types and eggheads. They're not just going to let T-87 run around with some ineffective weapon. We got post-op living weapon T-87. Now that he;s been augmented it's time to test his abilities. When it comes to basic tests of things like physical strength, eye hand coordination, agility, etc, he does amazing. 

Now it's time for weapons training. Despite his high aptitude, he is very ineffective with firearms. Aaannd they try a lot of different firearms, The eggheads are scratching their eggheads. Next the try various conventional edged weapons. Still not very effective. More head scratching and an angry General grilling them for their incompetence. 

The military is growing impatient with development. The bean counters are on edge because all those augmentations weren't cheap. The eggheads are at a loss.

Then one has decides try a different route. He noticed that T-87 always seemed really disinterested during all the weapons tests. He enters t-87's cell (or wherever the hell you keep a living weapon. T-8 is just sitting on his bead, eyes cast down. The egghead begins talking to him about his training. T-87 doesn't acknowledge. He just sits there staring a hole into the Seminole. The egghead isn't even sure if t-87 was listening. 

The egghead sighs, and says, "Well, Toby, (note he used his real name to try to connect) what kind of weapon would you like?"

Toby's head slowly starts to raise eyes slowly widening. He look up at the egghead with his wide eyes. A giant grin slowly forms.

Toby is excitedly trying on his new blade arms.

lolz I love it! I'll have to use it as inspiration. I'll probably make a comic out of it, actually, just to test it out. The only thing is is that...

I'm still gonna go with the bladed shield thing (and certainly fix the overly long one, there), due to practicality.

I could totally see him suggesting actual blade arms, though. '`3'` After all, he's a huge fan of the Rule of Cool and totally digs that sort of thing.

Did the scientists accidentally break his brain or was it already broke before they got a hold of him? Oooor.. did they break it on purpose to rewire him into a cold, emotionless killer? 

Well...

He's far from emotionless, though. Just look at that grin. He finds it exciting - fun, even - to cause chaos and carnage. Let's be real, my biggest inspiration for how we meet T-87 is this scene from Tokyo Ghoul. lolz He enjoys what he does. Sure, Toby would probably down 18 bottles of bleach if he knew what he was doing, but T-87? He loves it.

Ah, so he's like Carnage from Spiderman. Death and destruction for the sake of death and destruction =D
