    Why So Whitewashed?

@Kayzee To be fair, the misnomer is the result of early cartographers not realizing that there was more landmass than they knew of. However, the misnomer became habitual, and that is the fault of settlers, not the cartographers. Also, the misnomer is not used globally; only in America does this occur... But yeah, it's all dumb. Skin tone and characteristics don't make a race.

Why would you need to change it to a switch? The script is designed to let you change the game over graphic and music with variables. You set the value for the variable and it will use that file. Graphics/System/GameOver0 Graphics/System/GameOver1 Graphics/System/GameOver2 ... etc To have it as a switch would mean you could only have two files and the files would be called Graphics/System/GameOvertrue Graphics/System/GameOverfalse Besides the fact that there should be no need to not use a variable.

Well I for one am kinda happy that white people use incorrect terminology for themselves. It's only fair since they use incorrect terminology for everyone else too. I mean calling Native Americans 'Indians' is a good example, but I know there are others.

Does dark have any lusty fangirls in game? I can imagine Dark's reaction being hilarious and adorable.
  9. Whilst I take a break from all the constant troubleshooting from evented features in my main game project, I decided to both fine-tune my TMInfinity track layout as well as make a game out of the RM Coalition Demo.

While doing the latter, I came across an interesting oversight with some of the graphics, in that one piece of it doesn't match up with the rest, resulting in unmitigatable tile offsetting. Whilst this may not be an issue for some, It is for me since I'm using those tiles, lolololololol

Anyway, since the demo itself is about twenty-five percent of the entirety of the game's work, this will inevitably allow me to finish a small project, for release on itch.io.

Is it possible to change it into switch instead of variable?

I cannot find the script. I tried downloading the files but I don't see it. tried checking in the GitHub files abut I don't see it. Is the script under a different name or something? Because the only thing I see that's is close to the title and creator is 'Window Animation' Maybe it's only accessible for certain users or something? I don't know.
  13. Battle Event Pages? You can set the halving thing to run on turn 1, and then have another page that says runs on turn 2 and then on every turn after turn 2 (2X1) and make it set a variable to the Enemies current HP and another to their max HP. Then have it so that the Death state will be applied to the enemy if their Current HP matches their max HP. It might be a pain to copy-paste the event into every troop, but I think I heard somewhere that there's a plugin you can use to make certain events apply to all troops automatically. I'm pretty sure this will work...

  15. I mean... Yeah, sure, it'd be great to have console platforms for releasing our games on, but, do we need the MV engine as part of that?

    Hello friends!

Hello and welcome! Have fun and good luck!
  17. I have a question for something I’d like to do in my game. I have a bit of a strange enemy HP system - the gist of it is, each enemy’s HP starts at half, and the enemy should be considered dead if the HP reaches 0 OR if the HP is full (with negative attacks, that heal). I need help with this latter condition… how can I make it so that the enemy is considered “dead” to the game when the HP is full? The player should still receive EXP with either win condition. I know I’ll need to make it so that the status cannot be inflicted until the halving command has run, but I’m a bit stumped as where to go from there. I don’t think this will require a complex script, but if it does let me know and I’ll move/repost in the appropriate section.

FTR: Most Caucasian people had reddish skin, and very square jaws, but that is speaking of how they were long ago. A lot of that similar demographic, at least by appearance (because culturally the Caucasians are far different than what became of them) are what some call 'rednecks', and live along the Gulf Coasts of North America. It's not really related, but kinda is. tl;dr Using the term 'Caucasian' for a person with pale to fair-ish skin tones is far beyond incorrect. Yet, it's the 'National Standard'. My middle fingers to that. I'm not Caucasian, you idiots. Anyway, I tend to want to have diversity in the characters in my game, and for the case of custom characters, to allow the player to have some control over said diversity.

Well, he said not just the RTP, so I am pretty sure that included the RTP too. Though really I should have said 'RTP-style artwork' because being part of the actual RTP is kind of irrelevant. Now of course, not all community artists will make RTP-style stuff, but if you are looking for resources you pretty much want a consistent style at least. Also, I have been vague about exactly what RTP I am talking about, but I think they all kind of share a generally stylistic anime look. Though if you have or are an artist making everything custom just for your game there is much less reason to fall into any preexisting style then it's a much different situation, but I don't think that was what t6he OP was talking about. Really my question comes down to this: How much stylistic freedom can an artist take before in clashes badly with the rest of the graphics? How much do they need to really express some of the vast differences that people in real life have in their facial features? Though I admit when I was asking myself these questions I was mostly thinking of character sprites and not facesets. Facesets tend to be a lot more diverse and gives artists a lot more room to work with. I think it's still a relevant question for facesets, but not as much.

The OP was not talking rtp more on the lines of community artists.
  23. Sorry, if this topic has already been created. I could not find one as I did honestly search for it. As many people know the RPG Maker MV is being released on the Nintendo Switch, PS4 and XBox One. It is the first RPG Maker to be released on home consoles in many years. However, there are many questions about this version. Who is this product for? I am guessing young children. Many PC users such as myself do not need this version of MV. I can only see parents buying this for their kids or someone who does not know anything about the RPG Maker. You may have noticed new heroes and one new villain in the trailer. My only hope is they become available for PC users such as ourselves. They can expand MV's tiny RTP. It's the smallest RTP to my knowledge. There is an interesting comment on the trailer's page on YouTube. A viewer mentions the trailer does not show any features of the engine/game. There is a lot of false advertising. Your heroes/battlers do not appear on full screen. The trailer does not show the battle systems or any features in the engine.

    Why So Whitewashed?

That is a good think to keep in mind for sure, but as I said before, the characters in the RTP are actually not necessarily 'Caucasian' as much as they are anime characters. I think a lot of the art in RPG Maker games is stylized in a way where those kind of differences in the facial features of characters become a lot more subtle and easy to miss if it's even accounted for at all.
  25. Wow, River City Girls did not end how I expected it to! Poor Misako and Kyoko, I was really rooting for them! I guess it was pretty funny though. I still need to do the super secret ending, so maybe that will go better for the girls. I have a feeling I know who was really behind it all...

Okay okay, and I also was spoiled to who the secret final bosses are. But come on, you just KNOW those two are behind it all. The game does it's best to make sure you don't like them from the moment they show up.

    Why So Whitewashed?

most the time is because some artists have a hard-time getting the skin tone right. I tend to try and draw my characters with medium skin tone, but drawing someone with an ethnic background is quite difficult to get right. You have to study faces of other backgrounds to understand their facial features and what not, its not just about their skin tones, as other races have different eyes, jawbones, cheeks, lips, noses etc. drawing a person from a white background is much easier than someone of an ethnic background.
  27. So, yeah; I didn't know that Neon Black had made a Lockpicking script, until I came across the RM Coalition Steam Workshop pack.

That's really cool, to be honest.

  28. Kayzee

    Why So Whitewashed?

I think that there for sure is an artistic merit to having more skin tone options regardless of if you are actually trying to represent race or not. There has never been a doubt in my mind about that. I just think that if actually representing race is your goal there needs to be more to it. As for skin tone as a purely visual flare, my game uses a character creation system that uses graphics based on the RPG Maker VX Ace character generator graphics. I added support for multiple skin tones a while ago, but it only currently supports the normal 4 that the character generator graphics uses. I did have an interesting idea for how I might be able to support tons more without needing a bunch of extra graphics though: What if I used scripting to blend them together? Might be worth a shot sometime.
