No need to feel dumb. We all started somewhere! I've asked my fair share of questions that turned out to have quite simple answers.

Screenshot Critique Thread: Read Rules Before Posting!

Wow Somael. I'm honestly quite jealous. I wish I had the ability to create things like this. I would have to agree with Takeo, however, that the shadows and light source don't seem to line up (an issue I constantly find myself with many times...) Anywho, I've decided to blow the dust off of my project and keep plugging away. Any thoughts on below? In-game, there are a couple sheep and a dog walking around, plus a yellow-tinted sunbeam overlay -

@Jaxinator, I like it a LOT, that's really well done for only 10 mins. One thing, though, that I must point out: the apostrophe should not be there. It should read "Pokemon Hunters" without the '. The only time you would want to use the apostrophe is if you're talking about something that belongs to them. Example: "The Pokemon Hunter's Pokedex is an extremely useful tool. All Pokemon Hunters should have one." I'm excited to see what you come up with. It's been a while since I played a pokemon fan game worth playing. -
Cheeky request for monster list/database
LucidK replied to steve_muzz's topic in Editor Support and Discussion
When I first started using RM, I had trouble with the damage formulas, too. I basically took an already created monster around the same difficulty/level as the one I wanted to make and copied it into a blank space. Then, change everything you want to make it the new monster, and you will still have a complete damage formula. If that's not quite where you want it, then just start monkeying around with the numbers in the formula. That's how I learned what that formula kinda means. Hope it helps. EX: Copy the Slime into a new space for a different "starter" monster. -
Thanks! I actually got that much down rather quickly. I'm just confused how to possibly set up a common event to resemble a cell phone. I mean, the best I can come up with is a message saying "Call who?" and then doing a list of choices as to who to call. I mean, that works, but I am trying to set it up much more... well.... like a phone. You get somebody's number and they get added to the list of people you can call, things like that. I'll look into it a little more. Thanks again for your help!

(Should I make a new topic for this?) Okay, so I got the script downloaded. I understand completely how to add the selection to the menu. I... am lost after that. I don't understand how to make this selection actually... do something. Pull up a sub-menu, display a picture, etc. am I missing something?

Well, I've been working on a commercial game for a few years. I've basically restarted it a few times, but it was still fundamentally the same. Until my laptop's hard drive fried, and, because I'm super intelligent, I didn't have a backup. So, I finally had about 7 hours of quality gameplay done and POOF. Gone. So now, I'm working on a whole new one. Different concept, different story, etc. I work on it as much as possible, but, as with any person, work puts a damper on actual production. Especially since I often work 14-16 hour days, 6 days a week. BUT I'm getting there and, who knows, maybe I will finish a game and it'll be super awesome and somebody like Blizzard will buy the rights to it and the sequel for 10 million and I'll be set for life. Yeah..... Right.... lol

Alpha, if you get this working, please let us know. I asked for something like this a few days ago and still haven't figured it out.

Hi there! DISCLAIMER/WARNING/WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL THIS PART: I have a lot of respect for sprite artists. It's an intense work of art that I am horrible at. I am not, in any way, saying that charging for your work is wrong (unless they're blatant frankens of other people's work or the RTP, but whatever). I am not saying that I feel I shouldn't have to pay for them. I am only saying that I cannot pay for them. Money is way too tight for that. So, I have been working on the same game since the day RMVX Ace came out. Yes, it has been basically cleared and re-started a few times, but the fact holds true. When I started the game i found a ton of free, awesome tilesets available online that were perfect for my game. Well, my laptop fried, and I lost everything. I went to re-download the tilesets, and after weeks of searching I found them! Except... now they're not free! This puts a huge damper on my game, especially since I do intend on making it for commercial use. That being said, here is what I am looking for: Alternative tilesets that look similar to Celianna's that are free. Her medieval tileset was amazing, and her futuristic tiles are... almost required for my project. Can anybody help me? And, yes, I have scoured the forums here through the resources that are available, but very little of it fits along the lines of what I am looking for. There's mostly a ton of dead links, recolors, and sprites. Not that sprites are bad, it's just not what I'm looking for. Thanks in advance, and if you're offended by this post in any way, you're reading it wrong. EDIT: Examples: Better Looking Grass, Wood-post Market-style buildings, dirt paths, hay bales, better trees, Farm tiles, Straw Huts, etc. Roads, Sidewalks, Modern buildings, Street Lights, etc.

Thanks for the advice. I would be lying if I said I wasn't still quite lost, but I'm sure betewen what you told me and similar scripts on here, I might hopefully be able to get somewhere. Thanks again!

MOG | Sideview Battle System: Improving Sprites and Animations
LucidK replied to Rikifive's topic in Programming
If your battle script uses the character's actor graphic, couldn't you set a common event or a small script that changes the actor's graphic when entering and exiting battles? That way, the normal small sprite would be used for walking around, while the larger charset could be used for battles. -
Awesome. Thanks, Galv!

I have been trying to figure this out for some time, but to no avail... On normal mapping, the bushes and grass can have the "bush" feature on, which will make the grass appear overtop of only the legs of the character. Is this possible to do with parallax mapping? I tried overlays, etc. but every time I do them, they also go over the character;s head. It looks like the grass is 9 feet tall!
