    Hello!

Do you have pets? What's your favourite colour? What's better, apples or tangerines? Have you ever eaten a worm? How many licks to get to the centre of a tootsie roll pop? You must be careful about giving permission to ask questions. I have several restraining orders cast against me because of this. ....but seriously, welcome. =) Looking forward to your contributions and don't be afraid to ask *us* anything you need to know!
  2. Thank you very much! This is interesting indeed. I did add it and test it out as a second overlay, but I found it kind of contrasted with the bright and shiny atmosphere of the dungeon. It would certainly look great in a stone dungeon or a forest, though...here's the result: I'm going to use it for now. I just started parallax mapping a week ago, and had to remake all of my beginning maps, hence why they kind of deviate in style.

    Greetings

Welcome to the maelstrome that is everyone's relationship with RPG Maker. Don't worry, you fit right in! Eventually, the program will submit to your will and superior knowledge on how to make it dance for you...until this happens, just hold on to the edges of the rowboat, scream at the top of your lungs and hold on, while simultaneously resisting the urge to bash your head against your computer screen. Oh, and don't be afraid to ask questions. When you're new, no question is silly. Good luck!
  4. Thank you, Bunni. To be honest, I'm at a point with this game where this project takes chunks out of my day just to get 'that map' right, and 'that cutscene' perfect. I'm running out of 'for the self-satisfaction' fuel now that I've gone back to GIMP and am mapping out the remainder of the first dungeon. The support relationships are gonna be the hardest thing to show off in a demo, because the first couple hours of gameplay are mainly spent adding points to the possible combinations of Support. It's not until you have a choice of 6+ characters to add to your party that you notice an impact in stats and storyline progression. Until then, I've got to add some other kind of shinies other than potentially stellar storytelling to help grip people's interest. I'm going to finish a project this time, I swear!

    Hi

Welcome! That's a good attitude to have when tackling RPG Maker for the first time. It will take some blood, sweat and tears, even if you're a fast learner. Luckily, we're here to help and support if you ever get stuck on an event or function of the RPGVXA program. As long as you're prepared, you'll get used to everything just fine. Good luck and see you around!

    Skill creator help

Hello again. While I'm familiar with the skill itself from SAO, it would be helpful if you provided more information for us. What exactly are you having trouble with when you go to create the skill? The steps are rather simple, you just have to make a new skill in the Skills tab, apply an animation (either make your own customized animation in the Animations tab or use one of the defaults), and then define what you want it to do, damage-wise. In the case of a 16-hit combo, you'd need to set the number of Repeats (drop down menu) to 16, so the skill hits a single enemy 16 times. Then apply an animation that shows a hit animation 16 times.

    I'm a new user.

Ello there! Welcome to the community. =) Eh, it does take quite a while to finish a game. It even takes a long time to get enough gameplay to create a trailer or demo for the game. And you're right, I have no idea why the motto states it's easy enough for a child to use. I'd say that could be true, but under circumstances that are so far-fetched that it's shameful. Anyway. The longer you use the program, the easier it gets, and the faster you can get things done. If you haven't yet, take a look at the Tutorial section. Even I'm checking that out today, even though I've been using these for years. There are always a dozen new things to learn that, most of the time, make you realize a new and faster way to get things done. Looking forward to your first demo. Good luck!

    HELLO!

Hello! Welcome to the community. Ace is a version of RPG Maker that's very different from RM2K, if that's the last one you've used. I'll try to answer some of your questions, but in all honesty, it is better to simply use RPG Maker VX Ace for yourself and find out what's new. Anyway... 1) Ace uses RGSS3, powered by the Ruby scripting engine. I am not a scripter, so that is the extent of my knowledge. 2)Ace is a lot like 2k with the tools. Switches, variables, forks (they are called conditional branches), and everything else from character movement to database alterations. A lot has been added, however. 3) Use the program. I'll list a few things...like a character sprite/face generator built right in. A auto-dungeon generator. You can now use video files as well as pictures in your game. Updated graphics, etc. etc... 4) Google is your friend. If you search for RPG Maker Ace resources, you'll find a lot. There are several large communities. Lastly, check out the Tutorial section of this site. Since Ace is so different from 2K, I recommend this, because it will help you get familiar with all the changes. Welcome again! And have fun

    Been a long time...

Happy to meet you, fellow long-term RPG Maker-user person. Hope to see you around a lot and good luck on the project!

    Greetings

You too, huh? It's okay, RPG Maker does that sometimes. It's a perfectly natural sound. I respect a guy who gets up one day, goes 'Yes! I want to make spaceships again!' and grabs a copy of the latest RPG Maker to do his bidding. I have a feeling we shall all get along with you quite well. Being a rabid enthusiast for science fiction, I highly anticipate the project you will create and hopefully share with us. Welcome and salutations!

    Salutations!

No questions, but welcome! I also share the writing bug, as many of us here do. If you can write a story that gets you hooked, you're already set. The other parts (coding, spriting, etc.) comes with practice, but if your writing ambition's big enough, you'll eventually pick it up. I know, 'cause I did. xD Looking forward to see what your project's all about; if it's a great story, you're already made an epic game in my books.

    Longshot

Hey there! Read your introduction and immediately I knew I'd like you. I love. LOVE the Suikoden series; it's been my favorite for 13 years. Nothing ever topped Suikoden II in my opinion. Suikoden used to be a huge motivation/driving factor for me as well when it comes to game development, and it still is--all of my games include some kind of home base with a half billion characters to choose from, for that reason. Not to mention an epic story. Anyway. I think your ambition's great and hope you get there someday. If you ever need help with anything shy of scripting (which is my weak spot), feel free to ask and ye shall receive. That's what the community's for, I gather. See ya around!

    Hello, 'ello.

Hello! I'm a...a...person...and I make RPGs. So...my strengths...well, that's story writing, character development, mapping and creating original music (I use my Finale program currently, but am in the process of getting my overpriced Ekeyboard hooked up to make some good music that way). Weaknesses? Scripting, though I know enough to make edits and correct most errors on my own. I'll learn it someday. Also, is comittment a weakness? I just purchased RPG Maker VX ACe, having finally let go of RPG Maker XP, because it's time, man. It's time to move on. Been making games for about 8-9 years now, thought I never quite get around to getting them even 30% complete. I love story-driven RPGs with diverse casts of characters, so that's what you can expect from my future projects. I still remember back in RPG Maker 2003 days...when I couldn't figure out switches...and I was making duplicate maps every time I made an event...hee hee...demmit, I'm old. Alright, 'nough about me.
