  1. Man I've really been neglecting my game lately. I blame all the new games I've been getting. Gotta play them all! Well since I own MV and I really love its character generator, I've decided to let all the (major) characters have facesets. Since I have next to no artistic talent and paying someone to make custom artwork for me will be a tad too pricey for me. (Being an adult sucks kids. It's just bills bills bills all the time) So far I've done the four main characters (which can be viewed in the updated characters section) and some of the more important npcs. Other then that I've been tweaking some of the art in the game since I have decided to go with a higher resolution which meant that I had to resize some of the pictures. But hopefully that means people won't have to squint so much playing. (Didn't realize how small vx and vx ace's screens were till I played with MV.)
  2. @Weremole: I love the teapot houses! Only thing I can see to critique is the lower boat is a bit too close to the harbor. It looks like it's overlapping a bit. I've really been neglecting RPG maker lately. I am ashamed. So to stop myself becoming rusty I've done a new map.

    Help with Damage Formulas

For the 2nd skill (damage enemies, then heal all allies) You could try Yanfly's follow up skills. They would be separate skills but it'll pretty much do what you want without using a complicated formula.
  4. I would absolutely play a game even if it was all RTP. I have seen some really good maps made with the RTP and I've seen some awful mapping with custom graphics. Yes I will admit I always look to screenshots first when checking out a game, but that's to see the quality of mapping rather then what graphics they use.
  5. (Could I be the mean girl????) It's pretty modern. I'm using the steampunk tileset so I tried to imagine what a industrial, Victorianish town would look like. Quite cramped, little bit smoggy and pretty much all stone and metal. (Though I imagine there would be a few green areas in the town)
  6. @Rikifive: The HUD itself looks pretty good, but the whole screen looks quite busy? It looks like it's a fastpaced game so players probably won't be wanting to have too much on the screen at once. Personally I wouldn't bother with a difficulty and stage progress bar. Also is that health bar on the right a boss hp bar? If so maybe that would be better in the top right corner and bring both the player characters bars to the bottom of the screen? Just some maps I whipped up.
  7. @Helloish: If you want your game based on Medieval times then houses (particularly peasants homes) would be small and cramped. Also keep in mind that although it's nice to see realism in games sometimes it can be detrimental to your game. Does your world have magic? If yes then that would change technology somewhat as well. I would also advise on not making the inside the same size as the outside, that sounds like it's going to leave a lot of empty space.

    Episodic games

I don't like starting from a low level either in sequel games It's like "Noooo I was so awesome now I suck again! I'm just one step up from an npc!" I did some experimenting and I think I've found a way to transfer save files over. So for new people I could just start at whatever average level players tend to finish the previous chapter at. It is my first game (that I intend to publish at least) I am working on a couple of shorter side games just to stop me from getting to bored. Well it seems most people prefer episodes, so episodes it is!

    Episodic games

My main game is gonna be quite long. After all it's based off of a D&D campaign that started 5 years ago and is still ongoing. Obviously I've condensed it as much as I could and I will give it an ending. So I've been wondering how to go about this. I reckon I could either 1. Split it into 3 separate episodes. 2. Make one long game (But I worry it would be too long.) Obviously with making it into one long game I am worried about making the game files too big and no one will want to download it, plus people might not want to play an rpg maker game that is too long. So it would probably be best to split it into episodes. Now I could do this in three ways. 1. Remove the new game option, so people will have to have a save file from the last episode. 2. Start the player from a low level but that would mean anyone who played the previous episode will have lost levels, skills etc. 3. Give the option to carry a save file and for new players start the player at an appropriate level. So my question is what you would prefer if you played a game like this.

^ I agree with all the above

  11. @SomaelCK: That looks pretty cool. If I had any suggestions it would be to perhaps add more plantlife? Maybe some grass or moss growing up the trees? This map is still incomplete but I wanted to know if the tilesets go. (Or at least look okay enough to use) I'm mainly using the ancient dungeons tileset but some of Macks tilesets with darker colors and lower saturation.
  12. Found this awesome map making site called Inkarnate. Soooo I've given it a go and made a rough copy of the world map (still incomplete).

    Is RTP bad?

I have no problem with the RTP. The only time I would overlook a game is if the mapping is lazily done, but that's the same no matter what graphics the developer uses. I think a lot of people overlook the RTP is because it's the default and most people seem to think that equals lazy. But I say if the story's interesting and they've made an effort to make the mapping look decent give it a try.
  14. Finally starting to get settled in my new house. Was hard lasting a week without the internet though. But it wasn't all bad, I was able to concentrate on my game more. (I get distracted very easily with the internet :P )

  15. For some reason the plant stayed the same even with the screen tinted and shadows added. But since it's a world that's filled with magic lets just say it's a magic plant.
