I recently acquired a copy of MV and have to start learning coding from scratch after I got used to RGSS3. From what I interpreted from other scripts, the structure is maybe the same but the names and language is different. But are there any tutorials or sites best suited for teaching this from the ground up? I made some custom scripts in VX Ace and I'm interested in writing some of them down in MV in-between stumps with the one I'm making right now. Or whose scripts have a lot of descriptions regarding their functions? Just so I can ween knowledge off of those.

The flowchart is some scurry stuff but it will help me define some methods for my battle flavor scripts. Just a question, but is there a way to view how the engine arranges its code for its default functions? I feel like viewing it will help me manipulate it further, but with the Plugins system, I can't jump into the source code as easily. I don't think I noticed it in the Program Files folder. *sent from my phone*

I'm working on a fangame and I'm wondering if the style of the two portraits wouldn't seem too contrasting with each other. EDIT: Updated Graphic I was obviously working on Mark on a bigger resolution and crack-drew Cry's portrait. Does it seem out of place or shall I try refining Cry's to the same level as Mark's? It took me ages to draw Markimoo. )

So I think I made these look more similar: Also edited the main post to replace the old graphic with the new one.

@PowerBurger, it makes the TP act as a Guard Meter, or rather something like a TP-Shield instead of a Mana Shield.

side scrolling How to Go About Sidescrolling Map Tilesets?
TheCaliMack posted a topic in Theory and Development
So I was wondering how you guys would go about designing side-scrolling map tilesets, like building a wall, for example. How would you design them? Are there resources online? I think I'm trying to reach an aesthetic similar to the game Dreaming Mary (I think that was the title). Image sample to grasp the idea: Insights are appreciated.- 7 replies

So I made a thing. Might make him dance next if I can find a good base to work with.

I made a Cryaotic gif
TheCaliMack commented on TheCaliMack's blog entry in TheCaliMack RPG (California Macky's Blog)
I was keeping it in 3 frames for RPG maker, but I'll see about making it smoother. Maybe adding more frames would be inevitable, though. I could always use Victor's multiframes. -
This was a good-enough solution. A universal value seems to be sufficient, I'll work on transforming it on my own. I think this can be closed.

side scrolling How to Go About Sidescrolling Map Tilesets?
TheCaliMack replied to TheCaliMack's topic in Theory and Development
I meant how would you design a sidescrolling area such as the image I just added. Will add here just in case: I was thinking of making my own tilesets, but what's the best approach to it? How would you 'draw' them in this case?- 7 replies

Using Tall Sprites Facesets
TheCaliMack posted a blog entry in TheCaliMack RPG (California Macky's Blog)
So I've worked on a script that lets me use tall sprites of a certain width and height instead of the usual. The dimensions of each portrait is 108x143, which is much larger. In the menu, it targets the face as squares, but in the status screen... Well, it wasn't that hard to redefine. Will start drawing the different youtubers. So far, I only have fixed faces for Markiplier and Cryaotic. I've worked on the main battle system but still need a fantasy-based premise for this. Whether high-fantasy or whatnot still remains unknown. Suggestions are open. -
Game Concept, Need Help Simplifying
TheCaliMack replied to TheCaliMack's topic in Theory and Development
Wasn't aiming for that. I just liked the names. Besides, half the scripts for changing jobs during battle crash the hud. I like how saboteur and synergist rolls off the tongue, you know? -
I wrote down ideas and they piled up more than they should have. So I am looking to try to simplify my plot because I think I may have gone all over the place. EDIT>> Additional Notes: So I'm still trying to build up on what could happen in arranging a rebellion. I can think of a few but would like your input whether this might be too much for just a first game, because that went dark real fast from my first idea of a light-hearted game. EDIT: Here's the basic party (3 members): > Gun-Toting Healer (Gun skills and Divine Magic) > Ailment-Susceptible Tank (Warrior who can guard allies and draw attention) > Third party member dependent on conversations with NPCs. Choices are: > Weak, debilitating mage (Saboteur) > Spellblade mercenary; enchants allies. (Synergist) > Thief; sets up combos (Combo Set-Up will strengthen follow-up attacks. Side plots (discoverable): The Healer's origin Romance for the Plot The Conflict of Mages [uNDER ASSESSMENT, opinions welcome] --More to be added--

Game Concept, Need Help Simplifying
TheCaliMack replied to TheCaliMack's topic in Theory and Development
So would that be enough twists or would throwing in Mage Discrimination feel a bit much? The Conflict of Mages -
I'm guilty of enjoying Undertale too much, so I'll include some links to the song on youtube. Honestly, I just want to feel what these songs make me feel but in a different song. Here is to hoping you have something in your library of the same feel: 1) I Love You But You Leave Me No Choice Vibe: 2) Villain I Have Done Thy Mother vibe (Or just something Angry, dripping with hatred, rage, and/or intensity) 3) I am Filled With Hope and Determination Vibe: I'm justa fter the feeling. Hope you sort of understand what I mean when you listen to these.

Game Concept, Need Help Simplifying
TheCaliMack replied to TheCaliMack's topic in Theory and Development
I guess the time travel aspect can end up a bit nuts-o. But I kinda wanted to incorporate it so that the 'seemingly' fourth-wall references actually are legitimate for a reason, but that sounds a bit too ambitious now that I say it and type it out loud. At any rate, at that second paragraph, did you mean the duke would have spies in the Resistance? Because that definitely would be a great way to make some inner struggle and should make the maintenance of a rebellion feel harder. Also, what would any of your thoughts be on just three party members, given two out of three are a gun-toting healer and an ailment-susceptible tank warrior? -
What type of battle? I was hoping for a few serious fights. Let me sum up what song moods:1) "I Love You But You Leave Me No Choice" mood (The Worst Heartbreak) 2) classy badass "Villain, I Have Done Thy Mother" vibe 3) "I am Filled with..hope &. Determination." Vibe 4) No Surrender! I know these are tall orders but maybe these descriptions might inspire you or something. That or you have them somewhere. (#1 is sorta my priority, but if you have pieces that fit? Sweeet....) Also, I can't read a score sheet all that well so transcribing actual pieces to LMMS for remixing is lost on me. If you can find me a song with one of these moods, I will flip all the tables.

ripped Leave Tips (Donations) for Games with Ripped Resources?
TheCaliMack replied to TheCaliMack's topic in Theory and Development
I rip for private use. So thatz just my magpie tendencies. But I don't think I'll unleash anything ripped to the masses as a game now that I think about it. And I'll post around the proper forum to ask for help and see about what they can offer, though one singular artist would have to handle facesets. Hm... Okidoky. I shall hunt down creators. And Takeo, Soulpour, and Manly have given plentiful advice. Others may feel free to add to this but the initial question's satisfied.- 6 replies

ripped Leave Tips (Donations) for Games with Ripped Resources?
TheCaliMack posted a topic in Theory and Development
Here would be a rather considerable gray area, when you think about it. For example, you have a website where you mainly host the download for your game, or a forum post for that matter. It's free, technically, but you set aside a tip jar or a Patreon on the side if people choose to support your next venture, or even before the first venture. But the game they are offered to download uses ripped content. Wouldn't that fall under commercial use? Or is the process of which is so vague? On a personal level, I don't know what to think. I'd love to hear what you guys think of it. So yeah. Tipping for free games: does it count as commercial? And would using ripped resources for these games be dickery?- 6 replies
