So, lately, I've noticed people ripping on games that use the RTP in any capacity, be that using the tiles or characters. The stigma seems to be that RTP graphics immediately mean that the game using them is bad.For those who don't know, a stigma is usually a mark of disgrace or dishonor. It can also be called a mark of shame or discredit. The very definition of stigma is a set of negative and often unfair beliefs that a society or group of people have about something. I do not agree with this when it comes to RPG Maker games using RTP graphics.
I am here to say that using the RTP in your game doesn't make it bad. I've played a few games the primarily use the RTP that I've enjoyed. I am going to list some bulletpoint questions as to why I believe the RTP isn't necessarily bad.
. Is the RTP bad? It's not bad, but it's not great either. If you want to use the RTP in your game, that's perfectly fine. Just because you're using the RTP, it doesn't mean the game is automatically going to be bad.
. Should you use custom graphics? You can, but you don't have to. I can't count how many times I've looked on the internet for vx ace tilesets, only for them to not be what I'm looking for.
. Why is the stigma there in the first place? I don't know myself, although it could be that, over time, a general distaste may have developed due to people seeing bad games made with the RTP graphics.
And there you have it. That's why I personally believe using the RTP doesn't make your game bad. I hope I've put my points across clearly? What do you guys think? Do you think using the RTP automatically makes a game bad? Or do you agree with me? I'd like to hear what you all have to say on the subject.
