The Pixel Dojo---[Total Tuts: 15]---Latest: 01-11-2015
OneCutStudio posted a topic in Developing Tools
Welcome to One Cut Studio's PIXEL DOJO Please take your shoes off at the door. In martial arts, the dojo is the training hall where the martial artists learn and practice their techniques. The goal of my pixel dojo is very similar. I will be posting tutorials here for you all to read and hopefully learn from. Even though this is the pixel dojo, I still may post tutorials about other topics as well. I hope you find my tutorials useful, easy to understand, and helpful. Show your support for the Pixel Dojo by adding the following into your signature: Tutorial 1: Spriting from Scratch (No Gens./Templates) Tutorial 2: Sprite Sheet Fundamentals in RMVXAce Tutorial 3: Animating Your Sprite to Walk Around Tutorial 4: Simple Evented Animations Tutorial 5: Creating a "Fallen" sprite from a Pre-Gen. ***ANNOUNCEMENT*** I apologize to everyone who follows this thread as I have not been able to post much content as often as I used to. Please be sure that I will still be updating this thread, but it will be with longer delays between posts. Hello Everyone. I am One Cut Studio. This is the place to find free RMVXAce resources made by me. TERMS OF USE *NEWEST UPDATE: December 14th, 2014* Hey everyone! Happy Holidays! In the spirit of the season I have added a new Christmas-themed windowskin. I also added a new windowskin section to this thread featuring windowskins I have made for a ReStaff release this year. Enjoy. Earlier Release from November 5th, 2014 I made a new large monster sprite for the Minotaur. It animates through the step cycle. Yes this is done completely from scratch. Earlier Release from August 23rd, 2014: I was in the mood to make some icons. Check out 32 new icons! They are themed around more modern elements. Enjoy! Prior Update: August 16th, 2014 I was patrolling the resource request board when I saw someone requesting a sprite for Thor and the Hulk. So, I decided to give it a go! If there is enough interest, I might add more Marvel characters to the set. Possibly Captain America, Nick Fury, Wolverine and Iron Man. Let me know what you think. July 27th, 2014 Hi everyone. Finally I have something new to post here on my free resource thread! Everything seems to be getting in the way of me getting some graphics work done. Well it is what it is I suppose. Anyway, I had the urge to make some TMNT sprites. I finished the chibi versions and hope to have the larger sized sprites up soon. Prior Update from June 15th, 2014: Time sure flies by! I am back again with some more mobile meal morsels (aka spinning food)! They animate very nicely and work great for any type of in-game pickup. I might compile these and other graphics into an icon set in the future. I wanted to release something this month before I leave soon on my vacation. Enjoy! Prior Update from May 17th: It has been awhile everyone! I am so busy at work and I have lost a lot of steam in my graphics making and my own game projects. Anyways, I though I'd share a work-in-progress that I started awhile ago. It has been on the back shelf but I have dusted it off to give you what I have. I wanted to make an entire tileset sheet for the A4 external walls but creating that many autotiles is super difficult! If you lake cake...then these walls are for you! Prior Update: April 26th, 2014 I have been doing more generator pieces again! Some really interesting stuff hopefully for everyone in the future. What I have to share with you today is a set of modern army fatigues for males in the character generator. Total of 8 colors! Older Update: April 20th, 2014 It has been awhile since I made some generator pieces. I also know that people always seem to be looking for futristic/ sci-fi stuff. Thus I present to you some newly created eyewear for the Character generator. Import them as a "glasses" file. There are a total of 7 to choose from. Three are color variations of the same design. Enjoy! Earlier Release from April 6th, 2014 For some reason I enjoy making event graphics for items to pick up. These fruits, when animated through the stepping sequence, will hover up and down in the air. You get an apple, orange, banana, and a strawberry! More fruit or food may be on the way, so look out for the next release from me...OCS! Earlier Release from February 28th, 2014 The update today is a faceset for two characters from Cait's game: Cat and Dog Gaiden. Check out her development blog for more information. The two emosets below are for the two main characters; Cat and Dog (obviously). Newer Release from February 7th: I am quickly running out of room to upload stuff here so mostly everything might be posted on imgur and linked here. Anyways, I am excited to bring you TWO 8-character sprite sheets made from the generator and new generator pieces I made for Elves and Dwarves. You are getting 4 Elf Males and Females, and 4 Dwarf Males and Females. Also included in this post are the generator parts you need to make your own Dwarves and Elves. The head layers and the eye layers need to be swapped out with the current human ones, but keep a back up because they need to be saved as "head.png" and "eyes.png." That is how the generator accesses them. The dwarf eyebrows can be added into the accessory folder to place over the dwarf female heads. Enjoy. Elves Dwarves Generator Pieces: Be on the lookout for my next release. Treasure Quest (BETA Demo)Update 7/19/16
OneCutStudio replied to OneCutStudio's topic in Games in Progress
Hello everyone! Update time after a long hiatus. I have been developing this game little by little over the last few months. It is very near completion and almost ready for a full release. The biggest portion of remaining work is creating an original sound track. I might release it with the standard RPG Maker BGMs at first and later patch it with my own music when I'm done. All nine levels and the minigame are complete. Finally, the achievement system is mostly finished too. Stay tuned as I will be looking for people to review the game...and...a sequel to this game is currently in the planning stages. Look forward to it! -OCS- 14 replies

Hello everyone, I started working on my game again and as such using scripts to increase its appeal. I need help with Galv's CustomTitle script. Using the plugin demo I was able to create the titlescreen to my liking, however I cannot duplicate it in my own game. Here is the issue I am experiencing: The animated sprites are not visible when the titlescreen first launches. If I open up the options window and then close out of it, then the animated sprites appear. Troubleshooting I've done so far: At first I thought it might be conflicting with other plugins so I turned them all off except this one. Same problem persists. I moved the plugin to the top of the list. I double checked all the settings to make sure they were set correctly, ie. positioning the layers appropriately. Battle animations will still play but over the transparent sprite. All the other layers are showing up fine. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, -OCS

REQUEST/UPDATE Hey community. How are you liking the tutorials so far? Are they too long, too short, not enough information, etc.? I would love to hear some feedback. Plans for future tutorials: Pixel Artist studies: where we breakdown the work of professional pixel artists and try to emulate it. Tutorials on basic tiles all the way up to animated auto-tiles. Using a base for creating sprites. Creating your own sprite base. Possibly color theory and how it impacts pixel art. What would you like to see? Thanks, -OCS

Welcome to the new Pixel Dojo. In this training hall we will be focusing on making pixel art and game art for RPGMaker MV. Many of the concepts I have talked about in the past at the original Pixel Dojo apply here as well. This thread, however, will focus on the creation of resources to be used in the new MV engine. Pixel Dojo MV will also be using a new format: video tutorials! Tutorial 1: Let's Make a TV Check out the .gif in the spoiler to see what we will be making. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Tutorial 2: How to "Zombify" Your Sprites Tutorial 3: Finding Inspiration for Your Pixel Art Tutorial 4: Animating Bird Sprites + Spriting an Owl ***NEW*** -Enjoy. OCS.

Hey everyone! The fourth tutorial from the Pixel Dojo discusses tips for animating bird sprites and you can follow along with me and watch my process as I create an owl sprite from start to finish. The video is rather long, but you can fast-forward to get to the good bits. Thanks for your support. Tutorial 4 Link -OCS

Treasure Quest (BETA Demo)Update 7/19/16
OneCutStudio replied to OneCutStudio's topic in Games in Progress
Quick update: I posted Treasure Quest to Steam Greenlight's Concept submissions. Unfortunately it is not getting much attention there. Even with fun gameplay and custom assets my game is lacking momentum and a following. I invite anyone to download and play the beta demo. Please leave comments and vote on Greenlight's Concepts if you support this project. As of now, I am currently losing steam(pun intended) on this project and have lost the motivation to continue working on it. Thanks to anyone. -OCS- 14 replies

Smaller file size for an Android game?
OneCutStudio replied to Zen Blood's topic in Editor Support and Discussion
I had a post similar to this recently. I was looking for ways to optimize games from MV for mobile use. I am hoping to do a tutorial on this sometime. MV prepares for mobile but doesn't exactly make you an .apk file. Follow the steps in the guide to do that or use the Intel XDK. Also make sure your phone is in developer mode. When you save your game's output file make sure your check the box to exclude unused files. You could also manually delete all the unused files in your game's folders before the output as well. One thing I noticed from putting an early demo of my game on my phone is that the audio doesn't loop properly, there is considerable lag, and touching the screen can be difficult at times. RMMV is a great program and the company gave us some great features but they could still do so much more for us! Good luck. -
Cool. I can definitely find a use for this. Thanks Galv.

Hey everyone, I don't like making requests, but when I do I prefer Dos Equis like to make requests I think would be useful to the community. I was reading the RMMV documentation and it states it is most compatible with the Microsoft 360 game controllers. I recently bought a controller to see how my game plays with it. What I think would be super cool is if someone with programming knowledge could make a plugin that would allow for a plugin command to be called in an event that would activate the controller's force feed-back or "rumble" effect. It would be great if the plugin had parameters that could be changed by the user to effect duration and intensity etc. I think this could elevate the overall gaming experience when used appropriately. Imagine an explosion scene or riding your vehicle over bumpy terrain. I was looking into the Microsoft Xinput documentation and it seems to be coded in C++. Thus the scripter would likely need to be knowledgeable in that language as well as javascript. But what do I know about coding? Not much. If I could code this myself I totally would. Anyone out there think they can do this? It's not super-critical, just a fun idea. Thanks, OneCutStudio

Treasure Quest (BETA Demo)Update 7/19/16
OneCutStudio replied to OneCutStudio's topic in Games in Progress
Hello Community! Announcing the release of my game's BETA demo which you can download for FREE here: Mediafire Link The full game is mostly complete. All that remains is completing the achievement system and testing each level and system thoroughly. Read more about the game in the OP. I think this is a fun little game with some great replay value. If you can, give it a play and leave a comment. I intend to submit this game to STEAM Greenlight. Please show your support only if you want too. If this game does get Greenlit and becomes available on STEAM, I'm sure I will give away some free keys to this community! We do some awesome work here at RPGMakerCentral! Thanks, -OCS- 14 replies

Thanks for the suggestions. So far it seems to be working with the latest version of my game. It didn't crash the last time I test played through and was able to get back to the main menu. Mods, please leave this open for now but I'll let you know if we can close this. --- Jackus if you are interested here are the current plugins:

Hi everyone, I am coding challenged and need a savvy person to help me out with an issue I have. This issue occurred recently and is proving detrimental to my game although I know it is some easy fix I just can't figure it out. So here is what is happening: I am using the TDDP: Bind Pictures to Map plugin to do overlay mapping etc. It has worked great so far in my game. I have all nine levels done and they are replayable. This issue didn't happen until I started working on the ninth level. I can play through my game's levels no problem up through the last level and the credits. Instead of returning to the main menu like it should (via a simple transfer) I get the following error logged on the console: Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'setDimensions' of null The console logs line 1692 and 1693 in the rpg_managers.js file: SceneManager.onError Then the console references line 215 of the TDDP plugin: Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'setDimensions' of null I am assuming it is trying to find a picture that doesn't exist? I don't know. I went through and thought I checked all my pictures that they are being bound correctly, called correctly, and erased correctly. This error also effects save files after they have gone through the last level. Upon loading the saved file I get the same error as above. If I can't find a solution I may change to a different overlay plugin but I don't want to create any more work than necessary and I feel this might be an easy problem to fix. I hope someone could help enlighten me to a solution. Thank you, -OCS

Sequence Message Bust + Picture Motion
OneCutStudio replied to TBWCS's topic in Completed Scripts/Plugins/etc.
I like all the plugins you come out with. I would support you on Patreon if I could. I've also been watching your video tutorial series. Still haven't grasped it yet though. I hope to come up with at least a workable script some day. For now I will stick to pixel art. This plugin is super cool. Thanks.- 2 replies

Making great progress on my game when suddenly it decides to have a game-crashing bug I can't find or fix! Argh!

And what error is it? The box has a good way of telling you what is messing up. Is it ongoing?

Well, you got two choices. Continue finding the problem (though, it could be arguing with another plugin) or just take out the plugin.

Optimizing MV for Android/iOS + Thoughts
OneCutStudio replied to OneCutStudio's topic in Editor Support and Discussion
Thanks for the replies. The time I tested my game on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S5) I packaged it using the Intel XDK. However, I will give the manual's proposed deployment a try too and do a comparison. Once I finish my game for PC, I will rework it for mobile. I may have to change a few puzzles and add some sprite buttons for some of the features to work. I'll gladly package the game using both the Intel XDK and the RMMV manual's method and post my comparison results. Quick development question: How are you checking what the framerate is when running on your phone?- 16 replies

Installed Pokemon Go yesterday. It's so much fun when you can access the servers. I better put it down or it will severely impact my own game development.
