Well in your first map I'd recommend making it bigger and look at your world and separate it by biomes. Most deserts (is that a desert or a beach?) occur in warmer areas and aren't in contact with much water and are not in contact with snowier biomes. You could also try staggering the borders of your biomes to look more natural.

I really like your maps! Especially the city ones! But I am concerned however. How will those poor farmers in the last picture be able to leave the field? Someone built a fence around them while they were busy working! Oh well, I guess they could always try climbing the fence to get out I guess. Also, in the docks I kinda think that the separation between ocean and dock looks a bit odd (but that's just my opinion)

I don't really know of any way to help but... THIS SOUNDS LIKE ALOT OF FUN! I'd definitely want to play this! you should make this open to the public!

Personally, I would like items hidden it various places. You should try making a reason for them to keep checking. Like adding a crafting system to the game and being able to find the materials hidden about. Or you could make a collection missions, were you have to find certain items and you get a prize if you find them all. All this is just suggestion though. Do what you like.

Tutorials in general are a tricky thing, some like to learn the game themselves and others need tutorials to know how to play. Personally I would recommend having at least some sort of tutorial, no matter how boring, just in case of that one guy/gal.
