  1. Just made 3 easy, simple and small MZ plugins today(12 hours straight), and I never thought I could ever do this.
Now I feel myself being very productive, even though I know I'm just utterly flattering myself lol

Well, hot damn, look at you! lolz

@DoubleX that's no accomplishment to scoff at! I remember making my first few plugins, I was on top of the world! Keep learning and practicing, and you'll stay feeling that way! Keep pushing the envelope and making more cool things ^^

  2. This game seems to be very promising:

Looks similar to Battletech and the like. Kinda neat.

  3. Very few games can make me cry, and this is one of them:

Lots of games could make me cry if I let them. It doesn't need fancy graphics or anything...  Heck I think one of the best game endings is in Minecraft. Or maybe I am just a sucker for that kind of philosophical psychedelic paratextual poetry. Yeah it's probably pretty pandering, but it pleases my palate. :3

Theres a few that have brought me to tears, the best one for me though is the ending of Horizon Zero Dawn, absolutely amazingly emotional.

When I finally got to the ending of Guitar Hero: Smash Hits/Greatest Hits, definitely had those feels. Oh, and yeah; YYZ on Expert Bass was really F*CKING HARD to pass. That was the final encore song to play. I definitely relied entirely on Star Power to get me through.

      Final Encore Songs in GHSH:
      Guitar: Extreme-Play With Me (GH80's)
      Bass: Rush-YYZ (GHII) (X+)
      Vocals: Queen-Killer Queen (GH)
      Drums: SLAYER-Raining Blood (GHIII) (X+)
Band: Avenged Sevenfold-Beast and the Harlot (GHII) (X+)

Here: let me show you the ending, since I'm probably the only rhythm gamer here #LMAO:
(it's all cutscenes but it's likely the last one-they're all short)

  4. Just found this:
    https://www.autohotkey.com/
I wonder if any programmer will be interested to that :)

I've vaguely known about it for years, but haven't actually done anything with it till recently when I used it too add hotkeys for the mouse wheel since my laptop doesn't have one. Sure I think there are touchpad gestures for it, but I can't stand touchpad gestures.

  5. I just have an idea on combining DDR played with keyboard, and typing speed exercise.
Basically, you need to type a document in English, but each character's typed with the timing in sync with the music used.
Maybe with the aid of fast paced music, one's typing speed can reach unprecedented levels :)
I'm gonna make a proof of concept when I've tons of free time :D

    1. Kayzee

      Kayzee

That sounds like it would be crazy difficult (unless maybe if the player is allowed to skip beats between words). I donno about anyone else, but I rarely if ever hear anyone type with any kind of steady rythem. It just seems to take longer to do the mental rejiggering between words then it does to type any given word.

Also,  while we are on the subject of speed typing, is it just me or is speed typing is a sort of overrated skill? Unless you are taking direct dictation I guess. In my experience all but the slowest of typists can type fast enough that they are going to run out of things to type long before they are done processing what they should type next. Maybe it's just me, but whenever I reply to something I often find myself staring at the screen for minutes without typing a word because I am too busy thinking about what exactly I am saying. Even if I am just reading something and typing it down word for word I keep having to look back and forth anyway and my memory is much slower then my typing speed. And I don't even home row, just pick! I think I am pretty fast for a picker though.

    2. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

There's already an Initial D speed typing game that does this. LGR covered this a while back.

By the by, home row typists have rheumatoid arthritis now.

    3. DoubleX

      DoubleX

@PhoenixSoulI've checked that game and I don't think that's what I'm thinking, and I think I've to make that proof of concept to really elaborate my idea :)

  6. It seems to me that I'm too lazy to make new MZ plugins with my full time job, so I'm porting my easy, simple and small MV plugins instead.
I hope I can port 1-2 such plugins per day, but this will be hard for me :)

Don't break your creative drive over it.

Remember that browser malware that would redirect all web browsing to a fake Yahoo site?

Probably that one. Ugh, I hated dealing with it.

      Animebryan

At the very bottom of the RAM page it says that it's a joke website & not a scam.

  8. Before the full time job, I can make 1 MZ plugin per day, even though it's still hard; With the full time job, making 1 such plugin per week becomes just as hard lol

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

If I ever had a full-time job, I'd have no energy for anything else, I'm certain.

(likely because I'd have a job that drained me and one I didn't like in any way shape or form)

    2. Rikifive

      Rikifive

      Can relate, my full time job drastically slowed everything I'm working on. sad times ;-;

  9. Just watching an hour of some LP of CoD MW(2019), and I'm already liking that game, sadly my PC won't be able to play it :)

    1. Kayzee

      Kayzee

Hey, don't say you like a cod game! You will lose your indie cred! You do get some points for being unable to run it though.

    2. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

      lolz

Even if I were interested (nope! Not remotely! lolz), there's no way my craptastic hardware could run such a game; I don't think it could run Halo even! 🤣

      Warduty 3000, lolz

  10. Just uploaded a RMMV plugin video in youtube, and realized that RPG Maker MV is no longer in the list of game names there lol

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

In other words, YouTube is being YouTube as usual, #LMAO

  11. As I've written several easy, simple and small RMMZ plugins, I feel that I'm familiar with RMMZ plugin development. With the fact that I'm going to report duty for my full time job from tomorrow, I think I've to go back to finish my RMMV plugins, and I'd expect that to last several weeks or even months :)

Just don't let the day job destroy your creative drive...

  12. Just given a positive rating on Steam, even though my feeling on MZ's somehow mixed, and my positive just slightly wins over my negative(but I still believes that MZ will get better and better over time) :)

    image.gif

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

The rating system is archaic and not very good.

I actually have reviews I'd prefer to have as 'Neutral' if it were possible.

    2. Kayzee

      Kayzee

What have you done?! You fool! By leaving a positive review you are just encouraging complacency! Don't you see? Without negative reviews to get them to improve, why would they make it any better! :P

Also: You can have a neutral review. All you have to do is not make a review at all! What's that? It's not the same because you can still write something? Silly, no one important actually ever reads reviews, they just pay attention to the score. :P

  13. Tried to use ES6 Map to store some battler properties, and while it's nice by accepting anything as key(and MDN claims that ES6 Map's faster as well), those properties are all gone upon load, due to Map not being serializable upon save. Now I just feel dumb on one hand, and hope that I'll be the only stupid noob making this beginner mistake on the other :)

      DoubleX

Actually I've entirely forgotten the need of being serializable, and only realized it after facing issues with saving games lol

    3. Kayzee

      Kayzee

I think a lot of people forget about it. :3

    4. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

Maybe people need to see this and not go the route you did...

  14. Just accepted a full time job offer after being jobless for so long :)
But it'd also mean I won't have much time to work with MV or MZ :(

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

At least it is something. Good on ya, and bonne chance.

  15. Just checked the reactions to MZ on Steam and it seems to me that it's mixed in both reviews(right now 98 reviews with 63% being positive) and discussions.
On the other hand, MV got about 80% positive reviews upon launch(108 positive and 27 negative), and now MV is rated as very positive(91% positive with 3515 reviews), so it seems to me that it'd be hard for MZ to be ever rated as overwhelming positive :(

    image.gif

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

Heh. Likely because most see it as 'MV Ace', which from what I've seen, it is not.

Of course, until I am able to experience it firsthand, I know not whether it holds up.

Of course, I will still have a bias towards certain functionality.

  16. Just checked the VisuStella MZ plugins again and there are already 22(or 23) or them, as if MZ's already released(so I don't know how they can be this effective/efficient). It seems to me that those guys are really burning their lives to let us use tons of plugins one day 1 :)

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

      That's if they work...lolz

  17. I've just checked the VisuStella Plugins for MZ and there are already 11 plugins. The Yanfly team(perhaps a big one?) really works so effectively and efficiently that some MZ users can likely use tons of Yanfly plugins right after MZ's released (still 13 days from now). I wonder if any other plugin developer(or team) will try to compete with Yanfly this time, no matter how slim the chance to win is :)

  18. I'm slightly disappointed that the MZ codebase still uses core.js, managers.js, objects.js, scenes.js, sprites.js and windows.js instead of core/Bitmap.js, core/Graphics.js, managers/AudioManager.js, managers/DataManager.js, etc...

Remember back in XP how Game_Interpreter was split into seven entries?

Yes; bring that back, si'l vous plait.

    2. DoubleX

I think breaking each class into a single file is a good enough balance between having too many files and having some files being too big 🙂

    3. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

Exactly my point. Having 1,400+ lines of code broken up into smaller chunks makes more sense for those that need to find something but are not fond of text walls.

RM should have a better script editor too, but that's out of scope.

  19. There's a confirmed case of Covid-19 who lives in the same building as mine, but fortunately I've been staying at home all the time for more than a week already, even though I might be ordered to enter a quarantine center any time soon...

  20. Just tried to access my pastebin, then cloudflare said the pastebin website has been flagged as phishing, so I guess many of my plugin download links are broken...

    1. DoubleX

      DoubleX

Now I can just access pastebin again(I just have to login again), so maybe cloudflare had just wrongly flagged pastebin as phishing?

    2. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

Sounds more like an internal error, but that's just a guess.

      Still, that's garbage, regardless...

    3. Kayzee

      Kayzee

Sometimes pages just get flagged for things temporarily while something is under investigation. Sometimes it's a mistake sure, but sometimes it's because of things like an external ad injecting a script somewhere and/or the site being hacked. That kind of thing can happen and otherwise safe sites can unknowingly be used that way.

  21. Anyone here managed to never burn out on programming? My current limit is 3 months(6-8 hours per day, 7 days per week, 50 hour programming week on average), and then I just have to take a break, sometimes lasting few days(with at most 2 hours on programming per day). I've been always like this so far, so I admire those who can always be so passionate on programming :)

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

      Spoiler

      Yes! Happens a lot! lolz

      (Erm...I misread that)

No, I burn out quite easily...

    2. Rikifive

      Rikifive

My job leaves me tired, thus lazy, so I barely do something productive nowadays, heh.

I used to program a lot before I got a job and had all that time for it; Every single day I've been working on something if I'm not mistaking, though it's been a while. 😛

    3. Kayzee

      Kayzee

I don't think it's really the act of programming it's self that burns me out as much as that I start running out of 'low hanging fruit' to focus on. When I start a project, I often have a lot to do but I can focus on the relatively simple stuff and get a lot of stuff done. But later, all of that simple stuff is already done or will turn out to be far more complicated then I expect and it just becomes harder and harder for me to focus on it.

  22. What are your experience on trying to boost a MV project on an Android 7+ phone to a constant 60 fps? It's very hard for me(mine is 720x1440 px with Octa-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 and Adreno 506), especially with an ATB system plugin. The best minimum I can get is 30+ fps :)

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

I can only wish you luck in figuring that out.
I wouldn't even know who might have any experience with this.
Maybe @Rikifive would know a bit more or could at least be of some guidance...

    2. Rikifive

      Rikifive

@PhoenixSoul My knowledge says: I don't even have MV. 😂

    3. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

I tried. I honestly wouldn't know who to tag, maybe you would of. 🤷‍♀️

  23. After resigning from my 80 hour workweek full-time programming job, I gradually become more motivated in plugin/script development/support :)

80 hrs. Good god man! You must be a masochist. Now make us some plug ins! *cracks whip*

It's time, money, or quality, regardless of wither you're an 11 year old who gets their parents to feed them and subsidize their creative efforts, a four man team going off Kickstarter money, or EA with 250 person studios. A game can take as long as it needs to be made, so long as you also have a bottomless well of money you can draw from when it comes to feeding people.

If you don't, like everyone else on Earth, you compromise quality, or you crunch.

    3. DoubleX

      DoubleX

This reminds me of a professional game programmer claiming that he managed to maintain a 120 hour work week for years and still never burned out, and the quality of his work never slipped significantly despite of extensive crunch. He said it's passion and a voluntary challenge for himself, and I actually think being this capable means having a very useful choice, regardless of it being optional or not :)

    4. Kayzee

      Kayzee

Well if you just throw yourself at it and code you can sometimes accomplish tons more then you might thing, and sometimes you can't. It really depends.
