So I noticed the other day that most of my asset creations (tilesets) don't quite fit with the standard RTP (as seen in the following image) ...and it was also pointed out to me that my style is more of a pixel art style, and the RTP seems to be digitally painted, which explains why they clash with one another. So to counter this, I have decided to maybe re-do most of the standard B and/or C Tiles in my style and would like your thoughts on the subject. Below is an example: ...do the pix-elated versions work better? Thanks for your input.

slowly trying to get into ruby scripting, but since i been learning c# lately, a bunch of the ruby syntax always throws me off lol

I agree about the colour palette, I could easily grab colours from the RTP and use them in my tiles, I don't know why I haven't tried that haha but for me personally, I like rich saturated colours and the standard RTP seems a little too bland for me. This will indeed be a big project to incorporate my own tiles but as you stated, it would be a great learning experience. As for the cogs, I will indeed work on getting them to pop. Currently they are animated to spin so it looks a little different in game, but the left cog is still a bit dark. Thanks for the input.

I was just thinking about that barrel lol, should be an easy fix. Thanks. I don't think I will be selling these, if anything I'll be posting them for free for anyone to use.

These are pretty awesome! I was looking for a reference for a pipe, I found one in your modern (dead city) tiles. Was trying to create my own but I wasn't having to much luck with the lighting. Thanks for posting!

After a long hiatus I have decided to jump back into tile making. I haven't done pixel art in over 5 months and I noticed I have adopted a different style somehow. http://i.imgur.com/PQR1pvn.png I don't think it fits in with the standard style. What do you think?

good observation, I haven't really thought about it until you mentioned it, makes sense. thanks for your input.

Hi roccstar. Your stuff would look great with many of the new sets that are coming out though - lots of people like this kind of style. I'd keep developing it. =] Have you seen the pixel-style stuff being sold now? (Yours looks great.)
-
no i haven't had a chance to check out any of the new packs being sold. I think I will continue with this, thanks for the compliment.

They look pretty good, don't know if you plan on adding depth with shadows and highlights as I've yet to see what kind of tiles you are using. Might be a good idea to try and animate the fin on their backs when they walk, could add a bit more depth to the animation. Even just a simple left and right movement could add a lot.

you will need to split your picture into a 16x16 grid. i only did the one corner, but if you see the pattern the other corners should be self explanatory.

Im not sure of the size of the mini, pixel wise it is 1536x2048. And the lady in black was the most recent, looks more developed cause I was using a reference photo, the other ones were just out of my head lol glad to know the proportions work well, took me almost 8+ hours to draw and color each one.

Well, having only begun my journey into Digital Art back in October of 2014, I don't have many pieces but i thought i'd share my journey as i develop my skills further. I used to doodle a bit back in high school (nearly 10 years ago), but since then haven't picked up a pencil or paper. Watched a few tutorial vids on youtube about anatomy, color, etc.... And this is what i managed to come out with lol Don't have much patience when it comes to this stuff, so i'm surprised i even finished anything at all haha I use an iPad mini and a stylus, so it's nothing fancy. Haven't even delved into doing dynamic poses yet, not even sure i can do just standing poses very well yet Thanks for stopping by.

problysimple "cut scene" help
roccstar1oh1 replied to noob101's topic in Editor Support and Discussion
Also you should note that the move event command has the ability to move any event in that specific map, so you want people moving in the background, this can be achieved from you're one "cut scene" event. -
Spent the better part of the day designing some battlers. Rough Sketch, fixed a bit of the outline, and colored one of the creatures. Rough Sketch: Shaping the Sketch: Color: Finished Product: Personal Note: Need to work on outlines, anatomy, and maybe some different colors.

Be able to save anywhere?
roccstar1oh1 replied to Jolt Android's topic in Editor Support and Discussion
I think giving the player the option would be a good idea, some may just want to play for the story or just as a casual type thing, while other players may look for a challenge. It's like a difficulty level in a way.- 6 replies

A Year In The Making #2 - Battler Design
roccstar1oh1 commented on roccstar1oh1's blog entry in Ramblin' Roccstar
thanks, haven't really designed creatures before, i guess i'll have to wait and see what i come up with for say a boss fight or something like that. these here are just basic fantasy creatures lol and not very original... any ideas would be welcome. -
thanks. I create the roof and then import to the B-E tiles, which ever i have available, then just paste them in over top the A tiles. I'll try and line up the shingles, should be an easy fix, would just have to pull the roof down a bit.
-
Looking for some general critique on this roof tile. Now idk if it looks ok to you, i tried to make it blend with the autotile walls but the shadow kept showing up, so i shift-clicked it in there and the sides of the walls vanished lol i think the window looks a little small too compared to the height of the walls. Would i be better off parallaxing the house as one unit? or do you got any ideas of what i can add to make it look a little more natural? Also if i made more would you guys be interested in using them?

[Solved] Parallel process event won't start when messages are displayed.
roccstar1oh1 replied to Eva Zumrova's topic in Editor Support and Discussion
try putting the move route inside the talking event for the character you want to move, you got the option to change which event you want to move in the drop down box. -
not really sure what you mean, are you talking bout when the roofs meet at the top? or the bottom? lol heres another edit, tried a different angle, and instead of a 2x2 roof i distorted a 3x2 roof. Sharpened the roof, tried to align the shingles on the roof, but it turned out awkward so i scaled it a bit and the shingles didnt line up anymore, it's very hard to get these autotiles to work correctly lol currently i have the roof on my C tiles and using the auto walls and roof tiles from A, not working as i want it to. is it getting a little better? or am i making it worse? lol

good eye. haven't noticed it before, but now that you mentioned it i suppose i could sharpen up the image a bit. thanks.

Just a little writing practice i suppose.. The Great War 18 years have passed since the war of the lions, many men waged battle against anything or anyone who was not of human decent. Fueled by greed, man wanted to rule all the lands. The war consisted of the elves of the Faeren forests in the west, Brittanica, the kingdom of man from the north, and Hightail, kingdom of the dwarves from the east. After the assassination of Falkner, king of men, the humans had no choice but to sign a peace treaty. Legends tell of the once noble dwarves who prospered in the Hightail Mountains to the east. The dwarves, masters of craft, built great walls of stone deep in the mountains that they called home. Creators of mighty Weapons wielded by kings, and the toughest armor that was nearly weightless. Since the great war ended, nearly 20 years ago, the doors that lead into the mountains have remained closed. There are those who travelled to the now quiet mountains to the east, without ever returning to their loved ones. What dark secrets await beyond the doors into the mountain? What have become of the once noble people of Hightail? Fayt, a young boy with a passion for adventure. After first hearing about the stories of the war, which took place just 3 years before he was born, Fayt dreamt of one day leaving his village and heading to the city. The city of Brighton, in the heart of Brittannica was home to mankind. Fayt made it his mission to discover the secrets of the war, and find out the reason for the dwarves suddenly shutting out the world. Many scenarios ran through his mind, and his curiosity grew with each passing day. "What if something happened to them?" He thought, "What if they need help?". As his thoughts wondered off, he suddenly realised that he knew nothing outside of his village. The village of Beta was home to Fayt, and houses a few other families. A fishing village which had a good trade relationship with the city. Fayt often assisted his grandfather, whom raised him, with the family business but Fayt was no fisherman, Fayt was always dreaming of bigger things. "Focus, boy, these crates ain't gonna fill 'em selves", "Sorry, gramps, I was just thinkin..." replied Fayt, but before he could finish his sentence his grandfather interrupted, "You should be thinking about work right now, you know we need to get these orders done before Sun down"... After reading it out loud to myself, it sounds like the story plot to the hobbit movies lol not quite sure what else to write for now, so until next time.

Need help figuring out a Zelda II like enemy encounter spawning

Here's a Timer i got from RedWeaver on youtube. -
So, I come here today with a slightest clue as to what a blog is, or what it is used for. So, here i am starting my very first entry. I have spent the latter part of a year messing with VXAce a little over 280 hours with little or nothing to show, and then it hit me, i could use the blog feature to log every thing i do with the engine to catalog my journey into game making, 'cause, you know, it's there so i may as well use it. Now my biggest weakness is story telling, cause it's been over ten years since i've written anything in highschool, so i guess i can say google has become my friend on the topic. Now some of the writing tips have all mentioned reading, but reading and me don't quite click well. I have the attention span of a toddler when it comes to reading, maybe the books i've read don't intrigue me enough, or maybe it's that i have no patience at all. Another tip was to keep on writing whatever you can think of, and i guess this is the reason i am writing this entry here and now. Tilemaking i think comes a little natural to me, i mean i read a few tutorials and tried a few failed attempts, but i just kept at it and well i still don't have that great of skills, but what i make is very useable. Pixel Art is a new concept and i haven't fully grasped the technique of drawing with little squares, but i think i am doing alright for having only started in February of 2014. Digital Art is fairly new to me as well, and after seeing some of the great artists on the forum, I pushed myself to learn. After a few more tutorials and some mad patience, i think i have developed my skills a bit to some degree... Well i mean i use an Ipad mini and a stylus with an app called Procreate, which is alright if you're on a budget like me. So i guess in conclusion, all i can say is Practice, Practice, Practice! Google can be you're friend as well. Here is an example of my first attempt at Digital Art. It wasn't easy getting proportions right and color, and took me well over 10+ hours, but i mean if i can do it, with enough patience i believe anyone can do it.
