Thank you! Nothing too exciting, but I finished up some templates for a generator I'm making (just for fun), and here's a look at another PICO-8 game I'm helping with:/

[Insert obligatory 'SORRY FOR NOT POSTING I SUCK' message here]
Here are some random bits I've worked on in the meantime ^^

Some .gifs of a side project I'm working on:

Really haven't done a lot of drawing, but eh:

Ahhh, gotcha. I started the year by getting diagnosed with panic disorder, being pretty much back to normal by mid-February, then having it steadily get worse since March. Medication has either not really helped or put me in a lot of pain, so I'm just trying to take it one day at a time.

Anyways, here's quick drawing/painting from earlier today:

@Lord Vectra Thank you!
@PhoenixSoul Oh no! Sorry to hear that! It's been a rough year for me, too. :(
@Rikifive I lurk every now and then, but I'm so bad at actually posting things lmao. Thanks a bunch!
@Kirimash Agreed - this year has been something else, eesh. And thank you!!
I haven't been up to too much lately (besides work), but here's a walk sprite I've been working on:

Hope everyone's been doing well ^^
I updated the main post to show newer artwork, and here's a look at a request I finished up recently:

I went ahead and reorganized the top post, and here are the finished XP cover sprites:

Smaller chibi sprites (like VX/ACE or MV's) are great when characters don't have a lot of small details, because then you can really exaggerate the details that are there. The larger heads give a lot of room for expressions/variations in face style, although the head-to-body ratio makes them a bit of a pain for posing/animating. I generally like the chibi styles for RMMV and VX/ACE, although I'm not a fan of how the eyes look on MV's. They're a bit nightmarish.
Mack sprites, though I'm not personally a fan of the style, are really nice when you have more detailed character designs. You have the space to draw out clothing/hairstyles without having to squeeze in or omit details, have slightly more realistic body proportions to make animating easier, and still maintain the larger head size to add expressions. It's a weird complaint, but the issue I have with Mack sprites is that they have the larger body size everywhere else, but don't have any sort of neck. I think they look fine when the characters have a scarf or hood, but the head-shoulder area on sprites without them looks super awkward to me.
I don't really have a preference between the two styles when I'm playing a game, but from a spriting perspective, chibis are much easier to handle when you're making everything from scratch lol.-

Hey guys! It's been like a year now (yeesh!), but I went back and updated the main post.
Here's what's new:
- I made MV versions of the RMVX cover characters:
SpoilerVX Cover Characters (*Note: You'll need to own RMVX or RMVX ACE to use these!):

I've been reworking my project's opening sequence that I made last fall, which (besides fixing the animation), mostly involves recreating a lot of scaled up sprites to be higher res:

Here's a look at the city map I'm still chipping away at (It's big!):

And here's a WIP of my main character's updated walk cycle, since I really wasn't happy with the old one:

1 hour ago, Saeryen said:That's why I said to please consider the effect this has on actual people.
Easy stuff - as an actual person, I make the choice to play whichever games appeal to me in some way. The effect is that I enjoy more of the games I play.
I'm never going to tell someone their game is bad because they use RTP/pre-made assets, because I don't know that to be the case. It's just that I'm not not going to play something that doesn't appeal to me, and you can't expect anyone else to. It's just as Tarq says - if your game isn't getting the attention you want, you'll have to decide if it's more important to you to change the project to appeal to your target audience, or to finish the project for yourself. There's no right or wrong choice in that regard.-

To me, buying a game with RTP graphics is like buying a game with pre-made Unity assets: very unlikely to happen.
A major turn-off for me, and I think a lot of others as well, is that RM games get very same-y very quickly. When I'm seeing the same style of maps, sprites, and battle systems over and over, there's a point where a twist on gameplay or a neat story just aren't enough to keep me invested. Personally, the RM games that really stick with me are the ones that go out of their way not to look like one, whether that's through changing the art style, or using a setting/scenario other than generic fantasy, generic sci-fi, or lololol it's a meme game.-

@PhoenixSoul I'm gonna have to make a matching planter sometime, haha. I'll put one of my real cacti in.

@Takeo212 Ahh, she's not based on me (I wish I was that tan....), but her placeholder name is Stella. And sure - I'll post some animated sprites once I've gotten a few ready to go. Right now I'm focusing on getting some static ones made for each character.

@ShinNessTen Yup!

@Takeo212 It's hard to use hands when you don't have any! I ended up keeping the changes to Grace's hair, but making her eyes lower again. I didn't mind either look, but I think it matches her portrait better this way.
I also added a couple of new characters:

@PhoenixSoul Thanks!

This month I'm planning to get some base sprites done to match all of my portraits so far. To start off, I went ahead and made my first sprites less angry, lol.

I'm loving this concept so far! I'm really happy to see more people going with modern settings.

@Shaddow Thank you so much!! <3 I'd love to check out your work sometime!
@Jonath4nC Thank you!! I'll have to see about making some more videos like that. Good luck on your game!
Here's a bunch of recent stuff, because I'm bad at updating (I updated the main post as well ^^). As far as the portraits go, the images on the left side were made by Nirwanda as a starting point for me. The only exception to that is the cat girl - that's my own sketch haha.
