  1. Doh lol that's a key point. You'd unlock new races, classes, advanced and epic classes, and maybe deities and bloodlines/marks. These would add different abilities and interactions.
  2. So I have been working on an idea for a fantasy game where you play through relatively short scenarios to unlock more and more character options. Basically the loop is: start a character. go through a 3-5 part scenario (still thinking on that) complete side quests and certain objectives throughout campaign ends get new character options repeat The idea is that this can be played in a relatively short time and you just keep making new characters than can interact in different ways and/or facilitate finding even more classes. To make it a bit more expansive I would add an additional scenarios for advanced and epic classes (for a total of 9-15 parts at most). This would also allow me to form a bit more of a grand story. This is still a VERY early idea but I am trying to think about things in terms of what rpg maker, VXAce or MV, can do, as well as what I can do. For the most part it seems fairly plausible. But I am curious on what others think of this as a general idea.

    Alignment altering story and class.

That's a good point. I try to to keep that from happening based on the character features and their general attitude. I was thinking that a neutral path would play out more as a "do as your told not what you want" type of deal. However, I think that shouldn't be as much of an issue if I work in a system of lawful/chaotic and good/evil alignment. I have been looking into the idea of skills being more optional. However, due to the size and layout of the game (which is small) I was thinking it might be more practical to setup a system which would give either a permanent or on use class change based on your alignment.

Giving exclusive interactions sound great I'll definitely try to do something like that. I also like your other suggestions but this is my first project so I'm trying to stick with things that don't stretch too far.

    Alignment altering story and class.

First off thanks for the replies I'm sure this is fairly common. I've been avoiding really setting up a story just encase I need to make changes along these lines. I'll definitely make sure this doesn't happen. Since as it stands your alignment is based on who you choose to join your party. So whether your good, evil, or neutral you always got a group of buddies. As it stands your not so much choosing to be evil. Your just making choices along those lines. For example, you are sent to retrieve a sword frrom a dungeon. You can give it to the owner (I consider this a neutral choice), You can give it to someone who hopes to steal it for it's power (I consider this the evil), or you can give it to someone who wants to be sure it can't be used to harm anyone (I consider this the good). Or do you think putting in a choice of D&D styled alignments would be better (e.g. chaotic-good and Lawful-Evil).
  6. As the title suggest I am currently considering applying a system that will use party member choices to give the character a form of alignment. On the small scale I want this to give the the main character a class change based on your alignment. I'm not sure if it will be an in-battle transformation or a forced class change. On a larger scale I would like it to influence the story. For example evil would make you go on a path to destroy the world, Good would make you go to destroy evil, and A neutral path which would try to keep the balance. So what I'm asking is does this seem like an appealing mechanic? or is it better as a large or small scale? Lastly, If you like the class change do you think it should be an in combat change or a permanent class swap?
  7. Title: Alf Land (working title) Abstract: A RPG which gives decisions more weight. Genre: Fantasy RPG Average Demo Time: Currently takes ~40 min for a single play through. Game Progression: This is the very beginning of my first game. There is no solid guess of when it'll be finished. Story / Setting / Purpose: You are not a hero nor a villain. You are simply an adventurer. You begin a journey during which you gather allies who will lead you down a path of light, a path of dark, or a path of Justice. Download: http://www.mediafire.com/download/clgp0qcipjfiz04/Alf_Kingdom_V.0.2.2.exe Plans Character Bios (working Bios): Features: Updates: Known Issues: 1. Possibly a few minor text issues 2. player is able to open chest that should be out of reach in first dungeon. 3. Also if you find a red chest this is something I used to test events and will give you the strongest axe and make you level 99. If you run into one of these please let me know (I believe I have taken them all out). 4.Possibly some character balancing issues. Though I am constantly testing to try and find a balance among all of the characters and their varying armors. Guide: Just because I have not implemented a way of telling the player when to go where. Start by going to the ice caste to the north. Then work your way the the palm tree forest to kill the Flower monster. Finally head to the castle at the center of the lake for what currently the last bit of content. As with any RPG be sure to collect all the look you can. Screenshot: Credits:
