How should the characters learn new skills?

Yeah you could implement all or most of them, for example in my game the character learn "normal skills" by levelling up, these skills are named normal because they are skill that any adventurer would realistically learn with the experience, there are also "specialized skills" that a character learns by receiving specialized training from academies and masters but also from technique books, magic is specifically learned by Reading grimoires. If you have to choose one i would say that learning from books, i think that it would give the player a second goal apart of the quest or quests and if your game is an open world game then it would encourage the player to explore the world you have created.

    character backgrounds

The thing here is that if you are going to assign the background at random you should maker the player feel submerged in the background, like for example a character with the "poor" background starting in the slums with a, lets say, a poor and conflictive family (for example) less money (obviously) and some stats changes, skills, resistances etc. while a character with "rich" background would start at a palace/mansión (depending on the setting) with some powerful friends (special quests or events?) for example and the means (money) but with poor skills, although the money could help him to overcome the lack of skills just the same that the skills of the "poor" character could help him to overcome the lack of money. In this example i think that the player will feel proud of overcoming the challenge that you gave him with the "poor" background because it has both advantages and disadvantages and may even feel proud of being able of developing a "poor" character for the same reasons, while a player with the "rich" background will feel gifted for the advantage and the comfortable living that he received at the start of the game. So in resume if you are going to force something to the player you should make him feel submerged and in some way proud of the virtues and flaws of the background. As i see it, it Works in some way as the Hogwarts houses, the characters are sorted into one of the houses, they arent given an option (most of them) and still they end feeling proud of their houses because they submerge in its background...i think
  5. I really like your mapping but you should add more info so people get interested, specially the features! good luck with your game!
  6. i havent played the demo either but this game looks amazing, the maps both interiors and exteriors are well made. You really succeeded (for what i can see in the screenshots) in giving life to the inn/tavern and also the dialogues are easy on the eyes; I will play the demo as soon as i fix this laptop xD
  7. this game seems pretty interesting and i like the whole idea of this "test" happening at different levels, not just combat, i will download the demo this night and give you my toughts about the game. Regards!
  8. This game seems interesting and i dont know why nobody has commented on it, maybe you should add a Little more information and screenshots. I will wait for the demo
