    Hiyo Cherry-O!

Well, to be entirely honest I'm reading it simply because I want to. Even if I wasn't going into psychology I would probably still read it, although my bookshelf might not be so populated with psychology related books But yes, the book describes a selection of case studies. The title is derived from the end of an interview Sacks had with a patient ("Dr. P") who had a form of visual agnosia -- the patient would mistake inanimate objects for people and vice versa. In this case, the patient literally mistook his wife's head for a hat when wanting to put his hat on.

Thanks Tsarmina! I'll have to look into parallaxing shadows, although I must admit I have no idea where to begin. Maybe I'll see if I can find a tutorial later. The light in the small village was fairly simple, but it was done through Yami's Overlay Script

    Hiyo Cherry-O!

Ahoy! I figured since I've already received some help from this community I should probably introduce myself. Honestly, before opening up the RMVXA last weekend I had very little idea what I'd be getting myself into or even if I'd stick with it. But between then and now, here I am! Although you'll have to excuse the fact I'm highly inexperienced! I am here to learn, after all! So a little bit about myself.. I grew up playing games such as Might & Magic, Shining Force, Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, and all the normal classics (Mario, Zelda, etc). Might & Magic is about the closest experience I have with map-making and, of course, they were already made; I simply graphed them. Currently I'm reading "To the Lighthouse" by Virginia Woolf and "The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat" by Oliver Sacks. I have an obnoxiously diverse taste in music, a weak point for adorable dogs, and a never-ending craving for skittles. Weird note: I actually gave an 8 minute speech on the symbolism skittles held in relation to my life. A little bit more personal, I'm currently attaining a B.S. in Psychology, hence me reading the aforementioned Oliver Sacks book. Within the next year I'll be travelling to Europe (huzzah!), and I've been a part of a gaming community for around seven years. If you're actually read this far, kudos to you for being amazing If you've any questions for me, ask away. Seems like the community here is very welcoming and supportive, so thanks for having me!

Thanks for pointing me towards those resources! I took a quick peek at your Lab and Liberty's stuff. As of now I'ma learn how to do some of it myself, but there's lots of great resources from both of you Speaking of learning myself, here's an early attempt at recolor/clumping: I also have a related question. If it best belongs elsewhere please let me know! (I imagine there is. I'm probably just blind.) In the meantime I'll put spoiler tags around it: Edit: Changed the first picture to something more new.

Amusingly enough learning recoloring/clumping is my project this weekend! I imagine once I figure that out I'll be going through and adjusting some of the details within the maps. It's not like it'll take long after the tile edits. Never been very handy with image editors though, so learning is taking a bit Hah! Thanks And I see what you mean, especially when the horizontal fencing since it sets on the border of the floor tile. I can probably change the floor tiles to something without a border, although I can't remember if RTP has a color that meshes well right there. If not, then I'll just wait until I figure out recoloring and fix it up Thanks for the feedback, both of you! I'm happy with my progress after less than a week (in both manipulating graphic effects and elsewhere), but there's always room for improvement.
  6. Forewarning: I've only been using RMVXA for a few days and I've never done any type of mapping or graphic work before. I'm sure in many ways there's room for improvement. That said, critique away. I'm here to learn, right? Also as a note, I'm open to different tilesets and scripts if you have suggestions. Currently all of this is RTP only, minus some images for the lighting effects.
