  1. I'm curious, what messages do you think are absolutely necessary to put at the beginning of your games? I've seen things like, "For a better experience, do this and that..." or, "This is a work of fiction. Any relation to real life events or people are purely coincidental," or "(studio/persons name) presents..." or ,"This game contains this and that..." and more. What do you guys usually put at the beginning of your games? I'm planning out a short little horror game currently, and was hoping to get some advice. Thanks to anyone who replies~
  2. Hi again to the lovely RpgMakerVxAce Community! It's been quite some time since my last visit, but it's great to be back~ School started off with a bit of a rough start, but I'm all caught up and even have a bit of free time to start a new project! I still have yet to make my first Rpg game, and even though I still like my previous idea- I've fallen in love with a new one. I will definitely end up going back to it in the future, of course. So putting it aside and whipping out a new project idea, I'm hoping to get some help to start things off! Alright, so what I need the most help with is the story. Id'e honestly be happy with any ideas and feedback you guys might have, so even if it seems trivial I would be glad to hear it! The truth is right now that I have barely ANYTHING done in terms of the story. I have the feel I want for it, but that's almost about it. So far I've been taking inspiration from rpg's such as The Witches house, Mad Father, and The Forest of Drizzling Rain- and I aim to make a more story-driven rpg horror game. Everything would be fairly simple. Simple puzzles, simple goals, and an atmosphere that is always fitting. Although I did say I had nearly nothing done in terms of the story, I do have a few things as a base to work from. The story revolves around a mysterious girl similar to The Witch's House- I have yet to come up with her backstory. I don't know what events I will have that lead up to her arriving in a forest, but somehow that is where she ends up. While the upper path is blocked by a fallen log, she follows the only other path available. This path leads to a very cozy looking cabin. Of course, she tries to knock on the door- but there is no answer. She then finds a cliff nearby, where she encounters a girl who almost immediately disappears- leaving behind some sort of diary. Upon inspection, it seems as though all the pages are blank. Going back the way she came, the girl heads to the cabin once more, only to find a strange woman now there. The woman calls for someone, and spots the girl. The girl does not recognize the woman, but for some reason the woman seems to know the girl- and calls her by a name that isn't hers. The next part is a bit hard to explain, but the story is this: The girl (player) begins living someone elses' life. She eventually finds out she took the place of the young girl around her age who committed suicide up at the nearby cliff. This all happened years ago, and the spirits of the young girls parents' then lingered about, grieving the loss of their daughter. The player is put into the daughters shoes and follow the events that lead up to her suicide. The player lives the life of the daughter, all the while new diary entries appear day by day- and the player must act out every one to progress. If she doesn't, she would be stuck in limbo with the spirits forever. Thus, most of the game sort of revolves around the player completing the tasks that appear in each new diary entry. If any of this does not make sense, feel free to ask! I'm terrible at putting things into words that are easy to understand, so bear with me haha ^^' I need tons of help with the story, ideas, and events in the story- so if you could help with any of these Id'e definitely be grateful. / v \
  3. All of your ideas sound incredible! You've gone above and beyond what I was looking for with some advice and I'm seriously grateful. If and when I end up releasing this game to the public (or even a demo) I hope you won't mind if I put you in the credits! Everything you have mentioned sound really interesting and I definitely want to use it. What you've said here pretty much sums up exactly what I was aiming for, whereas the diary entries become darker and the player has the choice to continue doing them without going insane or stay trapped and live the same day in limbo over and over again. This incorperates most of the horror aspect into the game, while I would like to use some of your other ideas for the story aspect. I also love the idea of an identity crisis, and seems perfect for the type of heroine I am aiming for. This here immediately struck me as a multiple ending situation. Using the choices the player makes adds up to the result where the player throws away the diary and accepts living her life with the spirits, taking the place of the ghost girl forever- or complete all the tasks in the diary leading up to the ghost girls' death, and find a way to return to her own life in reality (where her life was rather miserable, and upon returning she tries to make things right.) Regardless, this has helped me a ton. Thanks again!
  4. Hi again, guys! Hope I'm posting this in the right place, lol. This time I've brought something I can actually show you, and hopefully get some feedback on! So I've been trying my hand at a bit of parallax mapping. It seemed that its an easier way to add a lot more clutter and detail to your maps, so I thought I would test it out- and I absolutely love it so far! Although I did try to create an exterior parallax map, I don't think it's my strong suit by the looks of it. Interior, however, ended up being really fun to make! So I was hoping to get some critique on my first parallaxes. I did watch a tutorial video to know a few of the basics (Parallax mapping tutorial for beginners), but I have to know If I can actually go somewhere with this. Bear with me as there are probably some mistakes or general errors here and there, but I tried my best~ I am also using gimp, so usually when I try to rotate or change the size of something it ends up a bit blurry. By using the sharpen tool I was able to fix that a bit, but I still wish I could use photoshop, haha. Regardless, here is my attempt at a bedroom parallax. This is also my first time posting a picture, so I hope I do this correctly x> The idea in my head was a sort of room belonging to a writer, so there is a reason behind all those scattered papers and books. I also added a few stains and furniture imprints to add detail, but I don't know if you can see them that well. > v < and also- here is what the map looks like in-game with khas light effects (credit to khas for his scipt) And I can't forget the credits to the amazing people who created the tilesets I used for this! -Celianna, for her amazing tilesets~ -Ayene for the flower pot and picture frame<3 -Cait/Caitlin for her gothic furniture- I thought I went really well with the carpet~ u v u)<3 -Enterbrain/tsukuru for the boxes and air conditioner of course! :> -If I missed anything, just let me know and I'll add it in right away!- Any and all feedback is appreciated, of course!<3
  5. Added some more stuff to my resource thread~ It's a lot more fun to make edits with more tiles to work with<3 I'm so grateful to all those amazing tileset makers out there!

  6. Finally working on some more tileset edits, this time using a few other resources (with full credit to the makers, of course) and if all goes well- have it up within a few days or so!<3 I have learned a bit more as well, so hopefully it will look a tad better than some of my previous edits~ u v u;

  7. So there are many different styles of horror games. Most of which incorporate a flashlight or a lantern as a main feature. I'm interested to know what your guys' opinion is on which is the better way to go about that particular feature~ Which would you prefer in a horror game? Flashlight or lantern? Mabye even something different? Just a quick little question~ Hey, it might help me out! Thanks in advance<3
  8. Hey guys, back again today with a little game theory that has been swirling around in my head. So thus far, I have really been mesmerized by the horror rpg genre. I'm truly inspired by games such as Witch House, Ib, Mad father, corpse party, lisa, the crooked man, there are just too many to count. And now that I've finally gotten into the rpg maker community, what better way to learn, progress, and gain experience then by making a first game? So I'm going to put one of my game ideas out there for some feedback~ This might be a pretty long post, so if your actually interested in reading it all, thank you! ~I also underlined all of the questions I need advice with- to keep it organized. u v u To start of, let me review all of the story and plot that I've been piling up in my brain. It is a horror, of course. You are introduced as a young girl in her bedroom. The game starts off quickly- either without a cutscene, or a very short one, and the player is then free to roam around and figure out what is going on. As stated before, you start off in what is presumably the girls bedroom (as it looks like a young girls bedroom). It is found out very soon that the door to exit the bedroom is locked, and I'm thinking that once you have a candle (found in the bedroom) you can actually exit the room. After exploring for a while you switch to the brother of the girl who is trapped as well, but not on the same floor. After the player explores with him for a while, we then switch back the the girl, and so forth. The story then follows the girl (player) and the boy (also the player) exploring a large house (that doesn't make too much sense). The house/mansion/area is large and full of generic horror puzzles. All throughout the players' progression, we learn what our goal is and the story behind everything. My idea here, was that the girl and boy are two sibling who are basically trapped in the same limbo (or the twos' own personal limbo, which is their biggest fear(losing one another) embodied as a large and confusing house). Perhaps they died and got separated, but regardless- the main goal is that they get find each other. I couldn't help making the story like this- I'm just all for those innocent character in a dark and confusing place that they must escape. It's common- I realize- but I'm only looking to create a very simple horror game so I can use this as a starting point in learning more about Rpg Maker Vx Ace. Here is one of my first concepts for the house layout - This is the floor that the player starts off on, and the floor the girl character is on. The boy character will be on the bottom floor very similar to this floor, but has different puzzles. I'm thinking the sibling encounter each other (at long last) in the top floor garden. The layout is not final, as I will most likely also be constantly adding on to this maps for more rooms and puzzles, so if you guys have any critique on the layout or any room idea, let me know! ~But that's not all! ~ I have a few character concepts as well- and I still need to write out a bit of their personalities for feedback!<3 Keep in mind I'm not the best artist ;; v ;; These are just a few sketches to start of the characters- Hopefully I'll finalize them soon~ So I was thinking of basing the two siblings off a black rose and a white rose- whereas the sister is the black rose and the brother is the white rose. (Also, I had the idea that mabye the save points would be a black rose vase and a white rose vase, heehee) Here are a few concepts for the girl character<3 I can't really choose what hair style and eye color to give her, any advice? For her personality: I was thinking she is very mature, elegant. Not very talkative, but apparently cares a lot for her brother. She's a pretty generic character, anything you guys want to add? Any ideas? As for her brother (boy character): I sort of have the idea in mind that he is more child-like, more talkative. He would give more commentary than the girl character. What do you think? Both these characters have names I have yet to choose. Does anyone have any name ideas?? Okay, I have one last character concept. xD haha, did anyone expect this one? This is a character I had in mind that I just had to draw out. He would be the sort of embodiment of the siblings teddy bear that they used to have. Or something along those lines. Both of the siblings encounter him and he will give interesting commentary on the situation, if not very confusing and cryptic. There is no doubt, though, that he is an ally. My name ideas for him would be something very fancy- like Bastian, or Horace. Any ideas? ~Well folks, that's pretty much all of my ideas and concepts for this game I'de truly appreciate any feedback, critique, and ideas you guys have! They would help out a lot! But regardless, thanks for reading into it this far if you have :'> Also, I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. But I think I chose the right one > v <; -Jalice

    interior parallax feedback~

    Thank you! I can't wait to get started on some more parallax practice as well, now that I've got some great feedback to incorporate!<3 I'll do my best not to forget the door this time, haha xD

    (Game idea) feedback wanted!

    Really? Wow, thank you! That's really nice! I'll message you if I need some spriting help, then<3 That would really help out a lot- I have yet to practice character spriting and I'm a little scared I'm going to be quite terrible at it cx and thanks! I also can't wait until I've finally fleshed out the story and I can create the first map :'>
  12. Jalice

    (Game idea) feedback wanted!

    Thank you so much for the feedback! I probably should write out a little bit more on the two characters- they are the main protagonists, after all xD I'll definitely get on that- and I am sure to make the siblings twins now- I almost didn't even think about that when making the characters! I was also thinking of giving the maps a lot of lighting and atmosphere- and a few ethereal type maps with interesting puzzles u v u<3 Thank you for the support, I'm so happy to see you guys are liking this idea! :'>
  13. Jalice

    (Game idea) feedback wanted!

    Oh wow! These are amazing ideas, and thank you for the feedback! The twin idea is perfect- I'm so going with it<3 It does make more sense, it would make them more connected and closer to each other. It seems that people are leaning more towards the name Sebastian for my bear character as well, or something similar, haha cx Your last idea is also sparking a lot of flames in my head too, I'm getting tons of ideas I can do with that Again, thank you so much! This will help out a lot!
  14. Jalice

    (Game idea) feedback wanted!

    Thanks for the feedback! and I actually think the name Basty is adorable omg<3 I probably should add a basement- since the floor the brother will be on might be smaller than the top floor- it would give the player more to explore (anndd more death scenes, probably cx ah, the world is cruel) I will definitely try and add these ideas! Thank you so much! and Nyanpyr sounds rad, I bet him and my bear character would love to sit around and chat over a cup of tea, haha xD ahh thank you<3 I appreciate your support! ;; v ;;
  15. Does anyone out there have any suggestions for object tiles? I am looking to create something similar to the rpg maker ace Inside C tilest, composed mainly of little objects! Any ideas are very appreciated!<3

      Maybe you can go for a clutter parallax look as a majority of people goes for that, anything to fill those empty spaces on the floor or table. lol Other than that, I pretty much do what my heart's content tells me to. :)

    interior parallax feedback~

    Oh wow! I had no idea, thank you so much! This will help out a lot

    interior parallax feedback~

    Thank you! I also forgot to put in a door there, haha. cx I'll definitely make sure to add the door next time, it does make the map look a little wierd. cx I appreciate the feedback!<3 Ah, I guess it does look a bit funny when you point it out. My bed and tv in my room are similar, and I usually watch tv from the opposite side of my bed. But I suppose it doesn't look quite right in Rpg Maker cx Next time I'll probably put the TV in front of the couch or across from the bed, instead. Thank you for the feedback!<3

If anyone wants to offer some advice to a newcomer, feel free! I'de love to hear any feedback you guys have! Thank you for taking the time to read this if you have, and I can't wait to get started in this community! u\\ v u)<3
