    Parallax Mapping Help?

Oh wow, do I feel dumb. ^^" I was doing everything the videos showed me correctly, but I didn't realize I would have to put scripts in to make it all work. I was trying to do it all without the scripts, and that's why nothing was working correctly. I also went a bit overboard with things not totally touching the gridlines, which is what I had worried about when making the map. All I need to do now is some minor tweaking in photoshop to align things better with the grid and the map should work perfectly. Thank you both very much for your help, my map is actually usable now
  2. For starters, I've been searching all over the forums for some sort of general "help me and let me know what I'm doing wrong" section, and I haven't found one. Since my problem is mapping related, I put it here. I hope I'm doing it correctly. Now on to my issue... I just recently decided I'd give Parallax Mapping a crack, and see how I can do. I got photoshop today and have been working all day on the attached map. The map is in layers. 1) Grass 2) Darker Grass 3) Road 4) Weeds 5) Flowers 6) Plants and Objects 7) Trees My problem is that, now that the map is finished, I can't figure out how to put it into my game to work correctly. I've been following several video tutorials, and none of them are making any sense to me. The majority of my mapping doesn't line up with the VX gridlines, so how am I supposed to make certain areas passable and certain ones not? How do I make parts of the trees go over me? Tutorial videos haven't helped me at all, they have me doing anything from cutting all my trees except the brown trunks to using passable and impassible tiles to do the job for me. I am extremely lost on what to do, and I'd like to at least complete one parallax map. Could anyone explain to me what it is that I need to do in order to import my map into RPG Maker VX Ace, and make it useable with passable area, impassable area, and sections that hang over the player.
  3. @Brackev Yeah, the fountain and doors and NPC's being off centered are a result of the script. They don't look like that in the actual game. I used the shadow pen tool, like you've said. But I'm still having a shadow issue. I outlined my problem in yellow on the attached image. The shadows go underneath the roof/border/whatever you'd call that wall piece because I honestly don't know ^^" Is there anything I could do to adjust these shadows to go OVER the tile, instead of under? Or do I need to make my own shadowed tile?
  4. Hello, hello. I've been reading over the screenshot thread here for a while and thought I should finally weigh in what I thought, and ask for some help with some maps of my own. @Bhiemeswhjart That is some really amazing art design. I always love when games take a creative approach on something that we already know. You said you were going for a non-traditional RPG design, and I think you've hit it spot on. Your art style is whimsical and playful, yet at the same time caries a lot of heavy emotion. I think it will do perfect for the kind of game style you're going for. Also, if you hadn't said you were using Tilesets I would have thought it was parallax! The art style sort of reminds me of old Japanese and Chinese wall scrolls, I almost expect to see a dragon come flying along. Haha. @Cait If you were going for a Corpse Party look, you certainly hit it spot on. My only issue I'd say I have with the map is that the areas where the floor is supposed to be cracked out and gone look a bit odd. They seem to have a light grey outline color, which is touching against a dull brownish grey wood. The colors don't seem to match up very well, and there's no real defined shadow to show that the floor actually has depth below it. To me it just looks sort of painted on. Now, as for my map... I've recently started giving the DS Tilesets a go, and I really like the look. This is a castle courtyard map that I just recently did some work on, but I have a few problems with it I'm hoping you guys can help me address. For starters, do you think that there's too much open space? I know that's a problem of maps of mine, having too much free space. I like to give things a natural look, and castles do have large courtyards but I feel this one's a bit empty. Also, on the far right upper side of the map a section of the wall appears ABOVE the shadow line. What could I do to possibly fix this, or hide it from the player? Also, please ignore the door and characters being off-center. That's a result of the screenshot script.

    Greetings!

Hello there, people of the Internets! My name's Sonata. I've been using RPG Maker for a while now, but I figured I may as well actually get involved with the community instead of just derping around on my own for forever ^^" I've been using RPG Maker since XP, and moved straight on through to Ace. I have no spriting experience, and only minor experience editing graphics like icons and my own tilesets. What I really enjoy is just mapping for fun, and making music to accompany. Aside from RPG Maker I usually just go to college and play video games, particularly MegaMan and Zelda, when I have free time. Anyway though, It's awesome to meet you guys and I hope we can all get along great
