  1. what's some good mapping advice y'all have? I feel like making maps is one of my weaker points with rpg maker.

      Well, my advice is three parts:

      1) Look at other maps and see if anything comes to mind (I don't mean copy and paste lol)
      2) Draw a bunch of random stuff with the brush/pencil tool, then make edits to that (I've seen some pretty neat maps come from this lol)
      3) Try making anything other than squared structures (just as an experiment)

      If I had one piece of advice, it would be: Shift-click, shift-click, shift-click! Seriously, learn to use it right and it can allow soooo much interesting tweaking to a maps look. Look at this:

      Might not look that amazing, but it is 100% done with a VX Ace's RTP tileset with no parallax mapping whatsoever and still manages to have multiple elevations, unique floor patterns, and other tile layouts that are impossible to do without shift-clicking.
