    [Heresy] Hand-Painted Maps

Thanks for the feedback! I didn't intend for either place to be 'lively' given that the area is corrupted by demonic energy, so it's supposed to look like the main building got blown up from within and some chunks flew out far in regards to the first map. It's also an area that saw the explosion a couple decades past. That and, the player won't be spending even 30 minutes total in the two maps, and won't get a chance to return. But I'll see about changing up the rocks a bit in the first map. They're my major weak point so I might as well work on 'em a bit more. XD Not sure what more I could do to the cave in regards to color. I used a lot of free texture stock images to make the place look cave-y, and my handpainting on top of that looks really bad and obvious. I guess I could play with select + hue slider here and there, but... Eh.

Oh yeah, it all works out great. I used that main parallaxing tutorial in the forum, so the light shows up above the player (using Show Picture). And testing is good so far. :3 These maps were a little less focused on the tile mapping than they were on just being pretty. I'm still looking into a pixel movement script to make everything play smoother in the final product, since right now I'm just using invisible tiles.

It's meant to be light coming in from the hole in the first map. These are probably as dark as they'll get, and the MC has a light spell to compensate for any tinting on top. Thanks!
  4. Maps I created entirely by hand for my game in the making, tentatively titled "Heresy" for now. I hate painting rocks, by the way. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1k8PfWZfiYFcFI5RGtJei1mMzQ/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1k8PfWZfiYFc1I4ejRVU1YwSjg/view?usp=sharing Sorry they're not embedded, I didn't wanna go fiddle around with Photobucket. Please use the Zoom In feature, these things are pretty big. :u Any critiques or pointers or whatever are welcome. I have a thick skin and never really get mad, so don't worry. XD
  5. I'm gonna follow this project, because I want to play whatever you produce. I don't like horror stuff, but this sounds like it will be a lot of fun! As for the love aspect - Unless Markus is 1) Really cute and/or 2) has an awesome personality or 3) just has really desirable traits, all three main females shouldn't have a crush on him. The harem genre is blech. Seen it too much where countless women all fall for some average-looking doof. (See: Tenchi Muyo, and sometimes Sword Art Online.) Multiple love interests can be done well, but I can count those times I've seen on one hand and still have fingers left over. And since this is a horror game, you may not want to bother with it at all, since it would distract from the main goal. As an aside, maybe one of the girls can admit she's had a crush on Markus for the last year, and was too afraid to tell him, but thinks "Hey, if we're gonna die, better now than never." Could give the player reason to be more invested in keeping her alive... And then you can be a dick and have her be one of the shifters just before endgame. XD I do hope the plot gets around to explaining why Markus is the only one with Special Snowflake Vision? Being really spiritual myself and non-religious, I could think of a few legitimate reasons, if you care to learn about shit like auras and metaphysics.

    Eagle Vision

This is pretty nifty. It would be really useful in my game since characters can read auras to see what a person really is (like if they're using magic to disguise themselves, you can examine their aura and tell whether they're, say, really an elf, or a human.) I don't really see anything customizable here, though. Is there a way to bind this to a key? IE, "Press A for Aura Vision, press again to turn off"? Doesn't look like you still provide support for this, though... Thought I'd ask. Thanks anyway.

My game's plot so far, seeking critique?

"One day, two heroes came to Wudton, they had passed the trials and sought shelter and food after their rigorous victory, the bitter inhabitants of Wudton were hesitant to assist them, but did so anyway…betraying their own purpose as servants of the goddess, the two heroes, one man, and one woman, both wed members of the small forest town, and became parents to two children" So, what, having sex is betrayal to their goddess? Or is it that they shirked their responsibilities immediately after having passed their trial that marked them "pure of heart"? Maybe expand on this a little bit or clarify. "The game Epica..." Please do not call it Epica. Maybe Light of Arcadia, but right now you might as well call your game "Epic Awesome Legend Adventure." Epica is ok for the band of the same name, but not for a videogame. "while their own parents had gone away, leaving them behind..." These are really crappy parents, ok? The heroes stopped for a wedding and a boink and then high-tailed it? I hope there's a really good backstory explanation. What, did duty suddenly hit them over the head with a hammer and they remembered they're supposed to be heroes? "Richard, a natural swordsman, and Aria – a young girl with a natural affinity for the magical arts" Just once I would like to see this trope reversed. Tough chicks in armor with swords are always awesome. (Oh Aveline, why couldn't I romance you?) "The two return to town, and inform the Elder of what they have found, the Elder, impressed by the two in their natural sense of bravery…allows them to take the weapons once wielded by their parents and travel deep into the forest, to conquer the Devil Wasp, and their Queen." These are teenagers. The town has guards. Why is the Elder sending two green children out to fight DEMONS? ALONE? And why did their absentee parents leave these weapons behind? "it is discovered that the letter is from a man by the name of Severn, who is a Knightblade of Avaria. He was sent to Wudton’s rich forest in order to obtain food and water for his stricken country, which is currently under famine and drought." Okay, good plothook. But only a letter? Why not a whole journal? Why not some ruined armor and a broken sword in the cave too? Did he come with a whole regiment? If not, why was he alone? One man can't carry enough resources to support more than one family for maybe one week, tops. And then you'd need to factor in distance and time. My opinion is that it would be better to stumble upon Severn himself instead, either dying or being prepared to be the Wasp Queen's next meal. (Devils, why not sentient...) If he recovers in the village, you have a guest character to support the MCs through the cave of trials. I mean, he had to pass the cave on the way through anyway, right? "The trials contain moral and ethical questions, and are answered easily by the pure hearted young man and woman..." Pure =/= worldly knowledge. If anything it equals naivete and ignorance because they haven't been exposed to anything bad in the world. I would suggest giving the player choices to pick, and have a real impact on the outcome of the trial. They don't need to fail the trial, but it could affect what kind of power the crystal gives them. "however, before making it out, they are encountered by a vengeful spirit…demanding it’s pendant back, before a word can be muttered from either of their mouths, the spirit attacks them and a dire battle ensues!" This is why you trust your gut instincts and don't go grabbing crap that gives you the heebie jeebies. :U You even mentioned they were reluncant about it. If the girl has magic instinct, she might know better. "attacked by a Lamia waiting in the waters…the two defeat the foul demon" Not bad plot but it eternally saddens me to see snakes and naga-like species constantly demonized. :| Also, two hard boss battles back to back? Ouch. The rest sounds pretty good, and could be altered a bit if you consider incorporating my suggestion of adding Severn to the party in the beginning. He could be swapped out with Joachim at the city, and left to recover and return to duty. I also really like Joachim's cut-throat nature. He's a nice contrast to the teenage pair's naivete - and I'll be disappointed if he turns traitor. He could be a great mentor and eye-opener to the two about the true nature of the world. He'd be fun as a long-term character instead of a guest. IE, Elder says, "The kids are young and need guidance. Go with them." Joachim: "But they're stupid inexperienced brats!" Elder: "Exactly! But they stood up to that devil's men. They may stand a chance against blah blah blah exposition talk about why I'm sending you with them, do as I say." Joachim: "UGH, fine." Your story has potential, but still needs a lot of refinement. It really isn't bad, even if I do sound harsh on some points.

Trading Card game, What do you want?

It depends on how you implement the system. If you have people who use cards to battle. Don't. It's fine for minigames, but not when you have to rely on cards to save your butt. It was a pain in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, because after you drew all the cards, you had to stand still and hope you didn't get hit while you recharged. The cards acted as a finite amount of attacks, and each recharge removed one card from the deck. Heavens forbid you got locked into a long battle... (See: Final boss Marluxia) Though, again it's all about implementation. And free move isn't yet a thing for RM. HOWEVER. I did enjoy the iPhone games Legend of the Cryptids, Rage of Bahamut and Guardian Cross. They're all worth checking out since they're free (also on Android), and utilize a 100% card system. I don't see any of them being easy to implement in RM, though. Each card is technically an actor, with a single skill (some worthless) and their own stats (if crappy, you'd fuse them with stronger cards or sell them off for coins to fuse more cards.) You may actually want to take a look at Puzzle & Dragons too. Its interface has more similarities with RM's combat system, so will probably be easier to recreate. You have a chance of collecting any monster you kill in battle, and can fuse them with others to raise their level. When a monster is at max level, you can evolve them by sacrificing other specific monsters. If you want to go the route of fusion and evolution, I don't see that being too difficult. Might require a script, but mostly good eventing and conditional branching, and setting up each monster to give certain xp when used as a sacrifice. Anything more complicated, such as MtG or YGH, would take insane hours and you'd risk losing motivation long before the project was half done. So many conditional branches...

    Enemy protagonists

See: Carver in Dragon Age 2. No matter what the player does, this jerk hates you. And yet you end up sort of caring for him.

    Character overlay

You might just want Khas' Awesome Light Effects. It makes the environment pretty, and you can even use a lamp graphic (which I think is supplied by a different script but I dunno which). You can also create your own graphic in photoshop or gimp, just make sure you use the color you want the light to be when you make it, and then invert it before you save it as a png because Khas' will invert it back. Hope that made sense. http://arcthunder.blogspot.com.br/p/rpg-maker.html It really is best to open up Khas' demo, and take a look at how he handled the events and made use of the notetags and script. It took me a while to understand, but it's not too difficult. If you want a custom light graphic for your character, I could probably whip something up for you in a few minutes since I made one for myself. It wouldn't be a lantern, just a lit circle. I haven't figured out how to get an actual graphic in yet. The lamp graphic, or custom graphic, will update position with the player, and constantly flicker as well like a flame.

    Custom Equipment Slots

Guess it's a necropost, but I just wanted to say thank you for this. I was looking for a way to add extra equipment slots to give my mercenary MC more options, and this is great!
