  1. Good news: my favorite resource site is back.

Bad news: two battlers for my game is now against their terms of service and need to be replaced forthwith

Well, don't want a repeat of the same incident. Better get cracking.

      PhoenixSoul

      Okay, that's cool.

I noticed one thing; there's a good bit of silly looking battlers in the lot.

However, there's also some really awesome ones too.

Still looking for a ghostly/ghastly kind though...

How ghastly we talking? Like "straight up horror" ghastly? Because ohohoho~ Mazeran and qud have quite some spooky ones.

(Though, some of qud's battlers are on the NSFW side. Just a heads up)

      PhoenixSoul

NSFW? Like that bugs me (I like battlers with human sized bulges in them so...)

  2. Sometimes I look back on my RPG Maker projects and wonder what the hell was going through my mind when I chose the music at the time.

    A Wild West-sounding theme for a post-apocalyptic game? Uh... no. I don't think so.

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

Yup, been there. I've made my screw ups too.

    2. Kayzee

      Kayzee

Makes sense to me! Wild west post-apocalyptic sci-fi is a thing after all. Haven't you ever seen Trigun?

[spoilers]Okay, okay, it's actually less 'post-apocalyptic' and more 'lost colony' but that's just details.[/spoilers]

Ooops guess that doesn't work in status updates or I did it wrong. Oh well.

  3. This is EXACTLY why I don't let my parents anywhere near my PC. One way or another, they find a virus.

That last thing I need is my PC getting infected.

The ISP can't magically send you software that automatically installs it's self unless you install something from them first, nor can they magically block everything that might be harmful. If you have malware it's either because of something you installed, or you haven't done enough to protect yourself. Haven't you ever heard of Hanlon's Razor? What's really more likely: An evil ISP being evil and sneaky about screwing you over in a way that doesn't really get them much, or you getting screwed over because you have an old computer with an old OS and you probobly don't have nearly as much protection as you think you do?

My suggestion? If you can't afford a new computer at least try do get an up to date OS and software. I hear some people say Windows 10 actually runs fine on older computers while others insist it doesn't. Of course Windows 10 has it's own problems. Linux is actually perfect for older computers though because of how optimized it is. If you install a version of linux, like perhaps a lightweight distro like Linux Mint, Ubuntu MATE, or Xubuntu, you can get Virtual Box and wine to run your windows programs. It's a little inconvenient to use Virtual Box for VX Ace, but it works. But you shouldn't need to install a new OS I think, as long as you block most ads and scripts on most websites and find ways to disable lots of risky windows services and other buggy things, I think that should be mostly enough.

    2. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

Of course, I already do this, at least, what I am able to do cost free.

I tried running Win10 when I had the chance to upgrade for free, and I had more problems and blue screen crashes within a week of the upgrade than I did for a month after I first got the bloody computer.

Before I try running a new OS like Linux, I first need to back up all my files, and right now, I haven't the needed external drive space to do so (in fact I have none at all).

Of course, given I don't know Linux well, I don't know how well I could use it...

    3. Kayzee

      Kayzee

A good linux distro really isn't that different from windows in terms of basic usability. Sometimes even easier to use in ways.

I love the package system most distros use for example. It makes installing and upgrading stuff really really easy, It's like all the best features of an app store (if all or at least most of the apps were free), the system application list, and automatic updates all rolled into one. Seriously, it has just about everything. Almost any kind of program that is compatible will be there. All of the programs are vetted and made sure to be more or less reliable. Don't even bother searching the web, just search the package repository it will usually pop up, from image manipulation tools to drivers to snes emulators. If you want to install it, the package manager will find all the needed libraries and other programs needed to run it for you and mark them to be installed.

All packages can be automatically upgraded or you can set it to simply show you and manually confirm, or you can even manually upgrade any one you want. If you need a particular version, they usually allow you to pick out of several options of what version to install. You can even choose what package repositories you want to use and anyone can set up their own, so if there isn't something in your distro's repo yet, you can often find other ones that will have it or whoever makes the software will set one up.

This is the sort of thing windows really REALLY needs, Not simply a shitty storefront and a small Microsoft curated list of drivers both of witch you probobly need to pay Microsoft for the privilege of using while to get most of the good stuff you need to muck about online and install random programs from random sites (or use steam), but something that is unified, open, decentralized, and safe because an active community of dedicated people do their best to make sure it is.

Phew... maybe I ranted to much about that. But my point is, linux is awesome.

  4. Bug-fixing is like fighting a hydra: you squash one bug and about a thousand more crop up.

    1. Kayzee

      Kayzee

So a mandelbug? Could be worse, could have to deal with heisenbugs or schrödinbugs. Heaven forbid a hindenbug!

    2. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

Indeed; sometimes, you have a bug you get a workaround for, then bam, you get another issue down the road you hadn't come across yet, and then it is all back to square damn one...

There are times when I want to smack the living ssssssssssssss outta my computer....this would be one example (thankfully I'm not really dealing with this at the moment...)

    3. Kayzee

      Kayzee

Computers are like that, and really so is everything else. You fix what you can, and hope what you can't is minor enough not to bother with.

  5. Being fickle with my artistic designs is both a blessing and a curse.

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

I hear ya. It isn't easy, being an artist, especially in this day and age...

  6. Writer's block is a terrible curse for artists to have.

I disagree Takeo. Sometimes the brick blocks in Mario have coins in them :3

    3. lonequeso

      lonequeso

@Kayzee I do that all the time :D It works for me, but it probably doesn't work for everyone. It's still a good route to explore though. I remember doing free writing exercises in school. You literally just write anything that pops into your head down on paper. The start will most likely just be a bunch of random nonsense you can't use, but as you keep going sometimes your mind finds a good track and you end up with something you can work with.

I can just do it in my head at this point, but it helps to get it down on paper especially if you're having writer's block.

I was in a HUGE Naruto phase as a kid and believed Tobi was Kakashi's deceased friend Obito who faked his death. .... Which turned out to be canon 8 years later, AFTER I have long gotten out of that phase. But I've grown so attached to the name and didn't want to change it, so it stuck. LOL
  8. Getting creepy prank calls from your dad in the wee hours of night only works in horror movies.

      Nice meme, dad...

  9. Oh wow.... That is a *LOT* of Touhou sprites. If I ever want to make a Touhou fangame for RPG Maker, I'm good to go.

I need to visit gensanko sometime, there are lots of fairies living there! Which is fitting because it's basically another offspringing like Fairyland. You wouldn't believe how many of them there are actually, like all those wizards in the UK who live in one for example.

  10. It seems the heat sink is too small for my PC. A bit of a technical glitch on the manufacturer's part. Can't be helped, I'm afraid.

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

Ouch. I hope that qualifies for a refund/free fix...

  11. It seems the heat sink in my PC broke. Brilliant.

Looks like I'll be on a brief hiatus until it's fixed.

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

Shouldn't be too great of an expense. What, ten, fifteen bucks? (I think)

  12. Sheesh... Some people need to show some respect for the dead.

It was bad enough when they claimed a friend who died of natural causes was murdered.

    1. Asharonapaul

I'm not dead. I'm just naturally pale.

      Nothing to say.

  13. I'm going to reiterate a point I make at least several times a month: I am not a licensed psychiatrist. I am ill-equipped to talk anyone out of suicide. The least I can do is listen and be understanding.

I'm going to have premature grey hairs at this point...

  14. New guy keeps talking about a banned member who was booted years ago (for being a homophobic, racist asshole).

... Must we REALLY keep beating a dead horse?

    1. lonequeso

      lonequeso

Makes me think the new guy is the old guy. Either way he shouldn't be abusing that horse's corpse. People are going to start saying things.

    2. TobiObito4ever

      TobiObito4ever

I think new guy is just a misinformed newbie. So I just simply told them to block, ignore, be on their merry way when it comes to the old guy.

  16. $400 just so I can view photos again? FUCK THAT, Photobucket.

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

Nah, photobucket like, changed one dumb thing in their system and broke every single link ever made; there was a micro-discussion in the Frets on Fire Fan Forums after I discovered it about a week and a half ago...

    2. Kayzee

      Kayzee

I never liked photobucket anyway, because they never just show you the damn pictures! Always have to do weird javascript and/or flash nonsense. Why can't webpages just work without a lot of flashy crap?

  17. It makes me sad when material sites close down. Like, where am I supposed to find top tier battlers now?

    1. TobiObito4ever

      TobiObito4ever

Out of respect for the original artist of the battlers, I'll be changing one of the generic enemy battlers into another one.

    2. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

Yup, I'm in that boat too.

I'm considering making all battlers invisible.

  18. Friend: Has Norse mythology as school homework. Me: Has intensive knowledge of mythology, ESPECIALLY Norse mythology. My time has come.

  19. I don't mind at all if you critique my art, but can you PLEASE wait until I give you explicit permission to use my art in your works?

    1. TobiObito4ever

Oh, it wasn't you. It was someone else. No forewarning, just they decided to use my art without my prior consent.

"I would have thought those Thor comic books have filled you in. Just kidding; they're horribly inaccurate.

What's the difference between the two? Thor's a natural redhead. Shocking, isn't it?"

    3. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

      Um, no, not really...

      If Odin is my father...

It would make perfect sense. lol

As for Marvel's depiction of Thor, it is inaccurate.

Need a battler (RPG Maker VX Ace)

Oh, I see. Sorry. Let me try to fix the link to the reference image. Is this better? Mazeran's works can be found here and qud's works can be found here (warning, some are NSFW).

Need a battler (RPG Maker VX Ace)

Exactly what it says on the tin. I'm lacking a proper battler for a certain boss in my game. I'm including reference pictures of this wicked goddess. It would be greatly appreciated if you could~ Thank you! (Yes, I am aware the kimono's on the wrong side) (The art shown is my own)
