  1. Me: I should really work on the big update for Kamikakushi...

  2. I'm at my wit's end. I've lost sleep, starved myself, sacrificed so much time and energy to two friends of mine and they never once returned the favor.

Should I cut ties and kick them off my proverbial planet? I don't know anymore.

I've made up my mind. I'm going to communicate that there's a problem and if it's not solved? Cassius deportation.

Only problem is how to verbalize it.

    3. Animebryan

People who ask for favors & never return them are just using you. Kick'em to the curb! They are leeches! Parasites!

Hell, they probably have no souls either!

    4. Kayzee

You know I find that this sort of situation is actually often a bit more complicated then people think. I kinda think it's often easy for some people to miss how much someone is doing on your behalf, and at the same time I think it's easy for some other people to sacrifice themselves for people without other people ever really asking or even wanting the help. There is a whole complex dynamic of expectation and counter-expectation that often isn't really well thought out or communicated.

Yeah some people are just plain rotten and will take advantage of you any way they can, but I would like to think they are the minority. I think the majority of people are just kinda caught up in their own affairs and don't really realize they might be taking advantage of someone. On the other hand, I also think that people who do favors for others sometimes need to be more clear about what they are doing and what they expect to get out of it, for their own sake as well as the sake of the person they are doing the favor for.

Also, there is a reason it's called being "taken for granted" you know. Because it's easy to think in absence of any statement saying otherwise that favors are indeed "granted", that nothing is expected from them because of it. After all, sometimes it's true. Everyone has a different idea of what sacrifice means. Some people might not even want to be paid back or may find the idea offensive, others view everything as an investment to be paid back later. Some people find some tasks ridiculously simple or have loads of energy to spare, others find some tasks really really hard and find themselves drained easily.

In the end I think the solution you came up with is the best tobi... Communicate that there's a problem and give consequences if it's not solved, or at least explained. You need to tell them exactly what you expect of them and why. That being said, this type of communication should really happen before you do favors for someone if you can help it. You can't just expect them to know either, no matter how close they are, you need to communicate. Though if you already told them what you expected and they still don't give you it? Then yeah, they are 100% taking advantage of you, and you should kick them off your planet like the guy from 300 kicked that guy into a pit.

  3. Finally... A Smash Room has come to my hometown. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's where you pay a fee to break as much stuff as you can with a baseball bat.

Where have you been my entire life?! 🤩

    1. PhoenixSoul

Oh, so, this is a thing even here? Back home, we have a place like this, only it's a three-level manor filled with breakables (mostly clay urns and such). Honestly, I've been there once, and because I didn't like the idea of just leaving stuff there, I've never been back because even if it's broken, it cannot be taken out of the manor. Yeah.

    2. Kayzee

Hehe, that reminds me of a fanfic I read once. Explaining why would probobly take walls and walls of text, but in the fanfic the main character basically has to take the time to smash a room full of junk every once and a while to make their superpower happy. In fact, nearly everyone with superpowers in that setting kinda needs to do something like that or else their power will start messing with their mind to get them to use them.

  4. I wish I could read these scary stories, but my knowledge of Japanese is at a grade school level.

I was hoping to find some more juicy inspiration for 72 Youkai Anthology.

    1. PhoenixSoul

I can at least look at the writing and know what I am looking at, can identify different Kana and Kanji, but I was never fully able to grasp how to read it...
      tl;dr I wish I could be of more help...sorreh.

  5. Finally got some progress done before it started storming. I make a habit to never program during a thunderstorm. I found that out the hard way when I lost all the dialogue I had during MoS's post-game final boss. 😰

    1. PhoenixSoul

I just constantly save if it starts storming.
That said, most of the time, the storm lasts at most an hour, around here at least.

It's rare when it goes on for hours. Reminiscent of how the weather behaved back in Arvada, only the humidity is far higher (and yeah I hate it lol).

    2. TobiObito4ever

My files have corrupted before during power outages. I learned my lesson.

    3. Kayzee

You should probobly regularly back up stuff anyway, better be safe then sorry!

  6. Took one playtester's advice and started recoloring Hisame's sprites to match his face graphics.

An abysmally slow process, but it's getting somewhere...

  7. Can't my birthday come sooner? All the good stuff comes out around that time. :o🎂

  8. A crawdad?

    At this time of year?
    At this time of day?
At my part of the country?
The kicker? I don't even *LIVE* in crawdad territory. 🤣
    1. PhoenixSoul

      Hey! Free food! lolz

      (kidding-they're not that great anyway)

    2. Kayzee

Hehe, awww... Something about the idea of the little critter showing up unexpectedly like that... Is it just me or is it kinda cute?

  9. Oof... That's what I get for letting depression run my decisions. Deleted all traces of one puzzle in my game.... =3= Then again, I'm still 100% unsure whether or not to have in there in the first place.

    1. Kayzee

Hmmm... Maybe someone has an older version with it if you want it. I know I have a pretty old version...

I tend to make a new backup every time I make any kind of change to my game actually, so I have a billion different old version of my game laying around.

    2. TobiObito4ever

Managed to decrypt the files from Kamikakushi version 1.0 and get the doll puzzle back. That's one less hurdle for me~

    3. Kayzee
  10. The one person who wants to translate Kamikakushi and I accidentally misclick and lose their contact info completely. FML...

    1. Kayzee

      You couldn't undo it? That's a bummer. :(

    2. TobiObito4ever

The crisis has been averted. They contacted me back... Thank goodness... =w=

Now to actually motivate my butt to crank out that update.

    3. Kayzee

      YAY! :3

  11. Aaaaaaaaa, all those Pokemon were so cuuuuute. pikachu Rup cheeks plz
Translation: Got back from Detective Pikachu with my mom and younger brother. I'm still reeling from excitement.
    1. Kayzee

Huh, was that movie actually good? I admit all I really knew about it was that it was some cgi live action thing, and those are usually bad. The trailers do look cutr then I expected though.

    2. TobiObito4ever

It was one of the better (if not the best) video game movie I've seen. The plot is geared more towards kids, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it. (I'm a kid at heart).

I personally enjoyed all the minute details, such as the cameo of Red and Candela and the Dialga, Palkia and Arceus statue in one character's office.

    3. Kayzee

The bar isn't set that high when it comes to video game movies, so you aren't saying much. XD Still it sounds like it might be fun... I am not a big fan of movies in general so I don't know if I will ever get around to seeing it myself, but it does look like something that might be worth seeing sometime.

  12. Yes, people. I'm aware Kamikakushi sucks. We can't all defend our first piece of creative writing/gaming. (Even though, technically it's not my first game)
Besides, the game is loosely based off an actual horror story out there. One I didn't write. I am planning on cranking out an update that fixes all the errors and revises the dialogue, so I beg of you:
Please. Stop. Telling me. That I suck. Or you won't get anymore games from me.

Well I thought it was pretty neat! Besides you just know that no matter what you do there is bound to be at least one person who dosn't like it for whatever reason, often times not even because the work is bad but just because it's not to their taste. And a lot of people can't tell the difference between those two things unfortunately.

And anyway, a lot of gods or other such supernatural beings can sort of come across as a bit chuunibyou-like, especially the more villainous ones. It's just something that kinda comes with the territory. After all, when a being is near the top of the cosmic power curve throughout their whole existence, they have little incentive to actually 'grow as a person'. Sure, there are gods with great wisdom and/or compassion, but a great number of they are basically stuck in the mentality of spoiled middle schooler brats. Like Zeus for example. Or even worse that prick Yaltabaoth ('Child of the Void') / Saklas ('Fool') / Samael ('Blind God'). You know, that one god who tells everyone he is the only one. No that's not what he calls himself, but those names are faaaar more fitting.

So anyway, yeah, don't feel too bad that some might say your overpowered evil god-like being acts a bit like a self-important middle schooler. That's just how overpowered evil god-like beings tend to act.

    3. TobiObito4ever

Here's the kicker: Hisame's actually the *GOOD* guy. He lost his eye in a scuffle against the main villain of the story.

    4. Kayzee

Oh I thought you were talking about the bad guy that chases you. Regardless my point still stands! Overpowered good god-like beings act that way all the time too! Really all god-like beings can, good or evil, overpowered or kinda weak. I mean even some of the cool ones tend to. Hehe, That reminds me of Maui in the movie Moana  which I saw for the first time not to long ago (on the plane to Singapore in fact). Maui basically acted like kind of a brat most of the time. He just has enough raw charisma and cheeky moxie to make it kind of endearing. That's kind of a thing with tricksters, even when they do bad things and act smug they are still such lovable goofballs! ❤️

... Okay as a fairy, I maaaay be a little biased on that point. But who cares! Tricksters are the bestest!

Anyway, not saying the criticism was valid mind, I honestly would need to replay the game first before I could make any judgement about it since I kinda played through quickly last time. I am just saying the only difference between chuunibyou and some gods is that gods usually actually have powers, so I can see how characters could be thought of that way. It's actually rather tricky to write a god-like character who doesn't come across that way.

Personally I would probobly have actually leaned into that interpretation more, made it sort of a plot point even. Cause yeah, on some level these powerful god-like beings might seem like they are acting in a completely ridiculous way. But on another level, they aren't human. Perhaps were never human. To them most humans act in completely ridiculous ways too. Really, I find everyone and everything is completely ridiculous on some level anyway. Which might be why I am not a huge horror fan outside of maybe surreal horror (where things being completely ridiculous is what makes them scary).

  13. So many ideas, but none fit yet... I've been reading a bunch of horror stories to try and inspire me.

Protip: do NOT look up Korean urban legends. I consider myself an avid horror fan, but this gets a hard "NOPE" from me.

According to homeless kids living in Miami around 1997, god disappeared, demons were invading, a demon named 'Bloody Mary' who had bleeding empty eye sockets and was feared even by Satan was stalking children, and their biggest ally was an angel called 'The Blue Lady', but the demons cursed her to be unable to help unless a kid happens to know her true name.

Kids day the darnest things huh?

    3. That One NPC

      That One NPC

The article reads like an episode of Supernatural.

    4. Kayzee

Hehe, in any case Tobi, be careful. Those that delve too deep in the dark of Dwimmer can find many strange and terrific things, and sometimes those things will follow you when you leave. :3

  14. Since it's Lesbian Visibility Day, let me get this out of the way:

I'm a lesbian game developer with my lovely girlfriend. After helping each other with our projects, we formed ObakeNeko Works, an indie doujin circle of like-minded yuri and game-lovers. I couldn't have asked for a better girl by my side. Thank you all for supporting us this far. 👭

    1. PhoenixSoul

      Anytime, love.

      May the Divines guide you...

    2. Kayzee

Yay for yuri I say! And yuri games too!

  15. Finally got some progress done on Kamikakushi 2.0. (Thanks to my GF for helping me fight through depression)

    So... What did I change?

    -Revised dialogue

    - Ramped difficulty for the chase scenes/music box puzzle

    - temporarily removed the doll puzzle (blame the depression)

    - added some flashbacks that further explain Hisame and Shin's backstory

    - replaced face graphics and sprites for Ueno and Yamazawa.

    - replaced the sprite for short-haired Yasu

    - added a book in the Omake Room that helps explain some mythos that wasn't clear.

^ attempted to sprite graphics for Hisame in some cutscenes using a base. More to come...

    - fixed up all of the face graphics

    - added a bit of developer's foresight in the True End route that some players could abuse in 1.0. Attempting to backtrack after the final chase scene will now net you an INSTANT Bad End. That's how I roll, kiddos.

So what's next after Kamikakushi 2.0? Maybe helping my GF with her project? Or maybe I could try working on my other small-scale projects? Who knows.
