  1. New PC! This puppy should be able to run all my games and stuff without tanking my memory, no prob.

  2. Tried making a chase scene, ended up breaking the entire chapter. How did THAT happen?!

      Stranger things have happened.

      I've been there though...

How did you break the chapter? Did you mess around with the wrong switches/variables?

    3. TobiObito4ever

      TobiObito4ever

After some trial and error, I've (hopefully) managed to unbork it and get it working properly. Yaay!

  3. Might take a break from social media for a while. Stress has taken a serious toll on my body, physically and mentally. I'm actually trying my damnedest not to puke on my keyboard as I'm typing this.

Honestly, why even use social media in the first place? Nothing good comes from it. But whatever, use it if you want. Just don't be afraid to withdraw a little if you need to! Remember, it's not the boss of you.

  4. You know you've messed up web design and bad when even your own userbase cannot browse your site without getting violent migraines and vertigo.

Seriously... I can't even go on the new deviantart anymore without getting violently sick. Whelp, time to move to Pixiv.

Hmmm...I have DA set to Dark mode...
      I hope that doesn't change...

  5. Okay, so I did a big stupid and forgot to add the regular version of the traveling typewriter font for YM&NM which explains why the font doesn't show up for me or other gamers. I'm sorry! I'll include it in the next fix.

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

All is well, all is well. No worries, really.

  6. The next chapter of YM&NM may be delayed. My current PC is trying so hard to die, so I'm sending it in for repairs. Worst case scenario: I may be without a PC until I get a new one.

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

I myself have a defective HDD that I cannot do anything about so I know that feeling of dread which in turn becomes stress...

  7. I was gonna drop YM&NM episode 1, but last-minute playtesting revealed the item menu can't be accessed. At all. Back to the coding block...

That sucks (you thought I was gonna say 'Spaghettios!' LMAO)

  8. I never thought I'd find myself looking at cloth face masks online and thinking "these patterns are cute", but here we are. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

Take those patterns and stitch a scarf instead. Those are far better at facial protection and are washable.

  9. Okay, I get it. Kamikakushi's not my best game, I know. We can't all defend our first (finished and published) game. I guess I was wrong to assume people knew about Japanese and Korean mythology...

Here's hoping You, Me and Nothing More doesn't alienate our target demographic.

The main complaint I get is that the portraits are too "modern" for post WW2 Japan. I've been trying to find face portraits for both Ueno and Yamazawa that don't make them look like brothers. And since the site I get my portraits from has a strict rule about recoloring, I can't do too much about that.

    3. Kayzee

      Kayzee

Really? Seems like a pretty minor complaint to me. Still, I do have an idea about this: If people don't like the portraits you use and you really don't have any good alternative, you might want to think about just... not using portraits. Maybe writing text as full prose? It's something I have thought about doing before myself, just not worrying about fancy art that people may not even like and go for something more textual.

Wow. That's dirty gamers/trolling territory. I'd ignore that nonsense.

  10. My brother startled me the other morning by saying he wanted to try AC:NH. His reasoning? "This game (DOOM Eternal)'s too stressful."

So I did him a solid and made him a profile on my AC:NH game. He's now an official member of Hanashima.
    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

Has a point; DOOM Eternal is designed to be much harder than any other DOOM release, and I've seen it firsthand.

Nightmare difficulty on DOOM is a cakewalk by comparison to Ultra-Nightmare in DOOM Eternal...

    2. Kayzee

      Kayzee

Even harder then Final Doom? I have heard things about them archviles...

I still need to get a copy of AC:NH... I have mostly been completely ignoring DOOM Eternal's existence up till now since I can't imagine playing a Doom game with anything but a keyboard and mouse and I just know my old crappy lappy would explode if it tried to run it. Also not sure I would be too interested anyway. I never got Doom 2016, but watching people play it my reaction was always kinda "Okay, this is pretty cutely cheeky and all, but I don't think it's really for me".

  11. Mom treated her first COVID patient at her clinic a few days ago. Dad's gone nuts from cabin fever (already?!) and falsely accused me of wasting a can of Lysol (he just forgot to throw out the old can). Yep, our self-quarantine's off to a good start.

Are you implying that the disease is some sort of conspiracy? 😝

Well, to the OP, I wish your family the best. Just rest and take it easy. I hear that in most cases it isn't fatal and that with a lot of social distancing and rest it will be ok

The problem is even when people do think critically, most are unwilling to turn that same criticism inward.

    3. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

True, but there's this thing called a 'criticism spiral' that most tend to avoid, and for good reason; it leads nowhere good and often times, it leads to tremendous depression.

    4. Kayzee

      Kayzee

I think that also at least partly happens because of the lack of self criticism though. Without a good amount of self criticism I think people tend to construct their egos in ways that make them pretty fragile if attacked from the right angle. They still might have very strong defenses for the most part, but once a weakspot is exposed it doesn't take much for everything to collapse in on it's self.

But in any case it's for sure a more complicated issue then that, and I think I have ranted here enough about crap.

  13. It finally happened. My RPG horror game, Kamikakushi, has been recognized by a big name: Tara A. Devlin, the author behind the horror anthology series Kowabana. I'm not worthy, AAAAAAAA....😳

I know I sound like a broken record, but still... WOW.

    1. Kayzee

      Kayzee

Neato! It seemed like you worked hard on making Kamikakushi the best game it could be, so I am glad it got recognized! Some times hard work pays off after all I guess. :3

I personally never heard of Tara A. Devlin myself, but I am pretty sure you never heard of most of the people I would be most excited to be recognized by either. :3

    2. PhoenixSoul

      Nice! Well done, mon ami.

  14. Aaau... Did I scare off my translator by taking too long with the bug-fixing update? I'm sorry for having depression, anxiety and things beyond my control... The holidays don't really help either. =3=

Well, that's their loss then, lolz

  15. When I started Memory of the Fallen Leaves, I was confident I could finish a large-scale project with just a two person team. Now that I'm older and wiser, I realize just how foolish that was. Neither my girlfriend and I had any idea how to code anything super complex and story-wise, a lot of things didn't make sense.

At first, I took a break from it to work on smaller scale projects when I came to realize working on smaller scale projects is much more fun and easier to do then blindly jumping in headfirst into a large-scale project.

So it is with a heavy heart I must say that Memory of the Fallen Leaves will be placed on a semi-permanent hiatus. The story needs serious rewriting and revising before I can work on it again. I'm not sure how long that'll take us, though.

  16. In light of the recent Ion Fury and HEARTBEAT controversy, we'd like to remind you all that we do not condone homophobia/transphobia/racism or hate of ANY kind. Honestly, it's hateful devs like these that give studios like our ObakeNekoWorks a bad name...

      ...

Okay. So, we have stupid people putting in dumb jokes and stabs at certain people for no reason. Sounds like everyday life on Earth to me... (I hadn't heard those two slurs before now and one of them makes me think of a bag of sticks but that's because I use that word in its' original meaning)

And now I'm hearing Cavemen Rejoice in my head... ('Sharpen your Sticks!')

    4. Kayzee

      Kayzee

I don't really think those devs really reflect on you Tobi, but I understand the sentiment!

Though personally, whenever I hear of a controversy like this I do wonder how many people actually research the original content and context of the hateful comments in question. Because honestly, I won't say people need thicker skin (because that's dumb and just dismisses the issue as unimportant, and it's not), but it's way WAY too common for humans to sorta jump on hearsay and start huge witchhunts over things. And that often makes the situation worse.

I mean, when I searched about these controversies, I couldn't really find much detail about what was actually said and the context behind it. Granted I didn't look too hard, but I can't help but wonder how many people read "x makes transphobic comments' somewhere and gleefully got out their torch and pitchfork without a second thought. Probably too many. Isn't that sort of doing the same thing that homophobic/transphobic people are doing?

I think the unfortunate thing is some people sort of end up being 'transphobiaphobic' and end up hating transphobic people just as bad as transphobic people might hate trans people. For understandable reasons mind you, but it doesn't actually solve anything. But way too often it seems to me that humans are more interested in assigning blame and having someone to point a finger at then actually solving problems.

  17. Me: I should really work on the big update for Kamikakushi...

Also me: SCREW THAT LET'S GO WORK ON OUR ECCHI COMEDY GAME DO EET DO EET DO EET

    1. Kayzee

      Kayzee

I am all for seeing some more ecchi comedy! Especially if it's yuri ecchi comedy... Not that I think you should abandon Kamikakushi or anything! Just my personal tastes run more along the ecchi direction.

You know, this is mostly unrelated, but being torn between working on a horror project and a comedy project kinda reminds me if the game I am working on, because in some ways I kind of want my project to be both (but in other ways it's kinda neither too). I think I really have to think more about how the story should unfold and the tone I am going for, but I kinda find it hard to decide sometimes what direction to go in.

  18. I'm at my wit's end. I've lost sleep, starved myself, sacrificed so much time and energy to two friends of mine and they never once returned the favor.

Should I cut ties and kick them off my proverbial planet? I don't know anymore.

I've made up my mind. I'm going to communicate that there's a problem and if it's not solved? Cassius deportation.

Only problem is how to verbalize it.

    3. Animebryan

      Animebryan

People who ask for favors & never return them are just using you. Kick'em to the curb! They are leeches! Parasites!

Hell, they probably have no souls either!

    4. Kayzee

      Kayzee

You know I find that this sort of situation is actually often a bit more complicated then people think. I kinda think it's often easy for some people to miss how much someone is doing on your behalf, and at the same time I think it's easy for some other people to sacrifice themselves for people without other people ever really asking or even wanting the help. There is a whole complex dynamic of expectation and counter-expectation that often isn't really well thought out or communicated.

Yeah some people are just plain rotten and will take advantage of you any way they can, but I would like to think they are the minority. I think the majority of people are just kinda caught up in their own affairs and don't really realize they might be taking advantage of someone. On the other hand, I also think that people who do favors for others sometimes need to be more clear about what they are doing and what they expect to get out of it, for their own sake as well as the sake of the person they are doing the favor for.

Also, there is a reason it's called being "taken for granted" you know. Because it's easy to think in absence of any statement saying otherwise that favors are indeed "granted", that nothing is expected from them because of it. After all, sometimes it's true. Everyone has a different idea of what sacrifice means. Some people might not even want to be paid back or may find the idea offensive, others view everything as an investment to be paid back later. Some people find some tasks ridiculously simple or have loads of energy to spare, others find some tasks really really hard and find themselves drained easily.

In the end I think the solution you came up with is the best tobi... Communicate that there's a problem and give consequences if it's not solved, or at least explained. You need to tell them exactly what you expect of them and why. That being said, this type of communication should really happen before you do favors for someone if you can help it. You can't just expect them to know either, no matter how close they are, you need to communicate. Though if you already told them what you expected and they still don't give you it? Then yeah, they are 100% taking advantage of you, and you should kick them off your planet like the guy from 300 kicked that guy into a pit.

  19. Finally... A Smash Room has come to my hometown. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's where you pay a fee to break as much stuff as you can with a baseball bat.

Where have you been my entire life?! 🤩

    1. PhoenixSoul

      PhoenixSoul

Oh, so, this is a thing even here? Back home, we have a place like this, only it's a three-level manor filled with breakables (mostly clay urns and such). Honestly, I've been there once, and because I didn't like the idea of just leaving stuff there, I've never been back because even if it's broken, it cannot be taken out of the manor. Yeah.

Hehe, that reminds me of a fanfic I read once. Explaining why would probobly take walls and walls of text, but in the fanfic the main character basically has to take the time to smash a room full of junk every once and a while to make their superpower happy. In fact, nearly everyone with superpowers in that setting kinda needs to do something like that or else their power will start messing with their mind to get them to use them.

  20. I wish I could read these scary stories, but my knowledge of Japanese is at a grade school level.

I was hoping to find some more juicy inspiration for 72 Youkai Anthology.

      tl;dr I wish I could be of more help...sorreh.

  21. Finally got some progress done before it started storming. I make a habit to never program during a thunderstorm. I found that out the hard way when I lost all the dialogue I had during MoS's post-game final boss. 😰

      PhoenixSoul

I just constantly save if it starts storming.
That said, most of the time, the storm lasts at most an hour, around here at least.

It's rare when it goes on for hours. Reminiscent of how the weather behaved back in Arvada, only the humidity is far higher (and yeah I hate it lol).

Hmmm... Maybe someone has an older version with it if you want it. I know I have a pretty old version...
