  1. I'm getting so pissied! >_< Last year the programming course was based on C++ so I'm thinking free credits. This year they changed the language to java, my most hated language of all times. I now have to work for my extra credits! The horror, being dropped this nightmare is my worst fears coming true. Who in their right mind would want to work for good grades! The designers of the curriculum  should all burn in hell! Maybe I would have to learn the java environment, these god damn monsters have no soul.

      Is Java really any more of a pain in the ass then C++? Heck, maybe you can cheat and use JRuby for everything. :P

      It is not necessarily more of a hack than C++, however I already know C++. Hence the "free credits" statement. I'll just have to wait and see how much 'effort' *bleh* this will require on my part. ;(

      Java isn't really all that different form C++ I think, bit less picky some places, bit more picky others.  I quite like Java really, though it can be annoying. But so can C++.

  2. Hi everybody! Just checking in to see how life is treating you all. As usual I fail at half of everything cuz I take on twice of what I can handle. xD But otherwise I'm doing fine. How about you guys?

      Yeah, I was born in the spring. I look forward to lying in the fields outside my hometown in the buff in (hopefully) the nearer future...

  3. I've been breaking my back doing long shifts every day for weeks, after another 14 long hours of procrastination I'm exhausted and of to bed. I promised to step down to full time but I'm hopelessly devoted to the cause. >_<

      Until there are cookies involved. Then you're the most ambitious, proactive person I've ever met.

      The oven.

  4. Vacation Time~

    ... I wants vacation too *sobs* There is a fly on your screen how about you swat it, I suggest a hammer to do the job.
  5. Damage Formula

    I think you got the thought progression wrong. ("good guess though ;)") "I want the a formula that neither favors atk nor def without ever becoming 0" => (atk/def) "It is kind of hard to deal any meaningful dmg, lets add a base line" => (atk/def)*300 "Game progression and character groth are partly signified by bigger numbers. Lets add a linear function. (kx + m)" => (atk/def)*(lv*3+17) Point being I didn't set out for a function of the level, it was kinda tacked on at the end. As for the crit issue. I tend to opt for a lower crit dmg baseline with an increased crit dmg buff for blunt dmg type weapons, skills, etc, this way the player can decide how much they want luck to play part in the game.
  6. Damage Formula

    Interesting, I use a a dynamic formula that self balances. => ((a.atk.to_f/b.def)*(a.level*3 + 17)).to_i In your example each point of attack is worth 2 points of defense. I find the proportional relationship between stats important so that an attack build is not favored on the mechanical level. Just my two cents on the subject
  7. Working on a intentional "dizzy effect" script.

    Now I don't have the engine on this machine so I can't check the proper syntax but maybe I can point you in the right direction. Your party members is contained in a global array. Define the following method in the class that generates the desired effects. class Game_Interpreter # the 'dizzy?' method will return true if any party member has the dizzy state. def dizzy? $game_party.each { |member| return true if member.state?(Dizzy_state) } return false end end You can now delete everything you did in the 'Game_Battlerbase' class in the update method exchange the statment 'if @dizzystate == true save_bgm() end' with the line: 'save_bgm() if dizzy?' As a rule of thumb, you should try to write concise non invasive code. Hope it helps PS: Your constants should be included in the class that calls them, otherwise they won't be found by the RGSS handler.
  8. # HAHA! I solved how to deal with life! :P Just run a script :lol:

    def wake_up

    def introspect

        kill_self unless reason_to_live.exist?

    def process_day(schedule)

        schedule.each { |task| execute(task) }

    def go_to_sleep

     @schedule = ["procrastinate", "eat", "procrastinate", "resent_self", "procrastinate"]

    loop {

      Forgot the loop cycle for insomnia...lolz

  9. FFIX Analysis

    Granted I might be a bit biased as there is a lot of nostalgia involved. But what I remembered is that the game is very well designed. Even in hind sight I think they accomplished a hell of a lot considering the PS1 platform. Esthetically pleasing and a strong storyline. All the characters had an impact full back story and had to deal with some serious existential problems. Vivi (name means life), vivi is an animated doll made for war that has an expiration date. Vivi has to come to terms with the short life expectancy and then choose to sacrifice what little time there is to help the party on their quest. Freya, has seen her entire home city annihilated by Odin summoned by Queen Brahne (Garnets mother). Her struggles to deal with the loss and a near insatiable blood lust makes for a gripping story. and so on.... Before this turns into an epic rant I'd say the game more than made upp for the lacking combat. (It was mostly lacking because the battles were easy, defeating Ozma was one of my proudest achievements. Also one of the saddest considering I had been grinding for more than 50h to prepare for the fight. >_>)
  10. Holy crap! O_O I've been gone for 2 months or so. Now I can't recognize the place. What the hell did you do?

      Alcohol makes anything better! :lol:

      @PhoenixSoul Sounds like you need gloves and super glue. No idea what that's a metaphor for :/

      Maybe you just need a new glass. In the words of Ron White:

      When life is giving you lemons make lemonade. Then find someone who's life is giving them vodka and throw yourselves a party.

      I got the vodka, btw ;)

      I hope you catch the dog that's been doing it.

  12. Hotseat PVP Plugin Request

    I think you skipped a step. Step X: Being able to load the enemy party from an alternate save. Otherwise you just end up fighting actors contained within the same save and there is little incentive for two people to train/build their own separate team a la pokémon. All in all, I think you have a really cool idea going on here. Keep up the good work.
  13. enemies not doing damage

    I think, Takeo was actually asking for a screen shot of the class of the actor. We are looking for a stat imbalance and you don't get your stats from the actor ( for the most part).
