Estimation on scripting a custom battle system?

I'll be addressing your questions out of order. Can you alter the engine? No, you can only alter the in-game UI. How complicated is scripting a battle system? Very, you will hardly find a scripter to do this w/o a substantial payment. RPG Maker is renowned for its inflexibility. On the upside python and ruby are extremely similar, so much so that I commonly get syntax errors for mixing the 2. (If you know python you will pick up ruby fast.) Time frame? Anywhere from 100 to 1000h depending on the your experience & complexity of the system. For a fire emblem system you can recycle quite a bit of the default functions, coupled with no experience I'd guess somewhere in the mid range (around 4-500h). On the other hand if you have a good grip on how the engine works you could probably get away with less than 200h of work. -

I'm telling ya. You have a computer that is jelly of your interactions and wants to try and ban you from talking to other people. Be on the look out for any possible kidnapping signs and you should be safe~
My phone does this sometimes - telling me theres no network - but I blame it on a slow reaction/lag on the phones wi-fi. Sometimes it picks up networks but is too slow to actually show it and lags behind on the visual side of things.
Or your network provider sucks. There's always that
(mines always cuts out when I decide to start watching series or play games coz Sky suck butt)

I'm getting so pissied! >_< Last year the programming course was based on C++ so I'm thinking free credits. This year they changed the language to java, my most hated language of all times. I now have to work for my extra credits! The horror, being dropped this nightmare is my worst fears coming true. Who in their right mind would want to work for good grades! The designers of the curriculum should all burn in hell! Maybe I would have to learn the java environment, these god damn monsters have no soul.

I've been breaking my back doing long shifts every day for weeks, after another 14 long hours of procrastination I'm exhausted and of to bed. I promised to step down to full time but I'm hopelessly devoted to the cause. >_<

Now I don't have the engine on this machine so I can't check the proper syntax but maybe I can point you in the right direction. Your party members is contained in a global array. Define the following method in the class that generates the desired effects. class Game_Interpreter # the 'dizzy?' method will return true if any party member has the dizzy state. def dizzy? $game_party.each { |member| return true if member.state?(Dizzy_state) } return false end end You can now delete everything you did in the 'Game_Battlerbase' class in the update method exchange the statment 'if @dizzystate == true save_bgm() end' with the line: 'save_bgm() if dizzy?' As a rule of thumb, you should try to write concise non invasive code. Hope it helps PS: Your constants should be included in the class that calls them, otherwise they won't be found by the RGSS handler. -

Granted I might be a bit biased as there is a lot of nostalgia involved. But what I remembered is that the game is very well designed. Even in hind sight I think they accomplished a hell of a lot considering the PS1 platform. Esthetically pleasing and a strong storyline. All the characters had an impact full back story and had to deal with some serious existential problems. Vivi (name means life), vivi is an animated doll made for war that has an expiration date. Vivi has to come to terms with the short life expectancy and then choose to sacrifice what little time there is to help the party on their quest. Freya, has seen her entire home city annihilated by Odin summoned by Queen Brahne (Garnets mother). Her struggles to deal with the loss and a near insatiable blood lust makes for a gripping story. and so on.... Before this turns into an epic rant I'd say the game more than made upp for the lacking combat. (It was mostly lacking because the battles were easy, defeating Ozma was one of my proudest achievements. Also one of the saddest considering I had been grinding for more than 50h to prepare for the fight. >_>)
