Passion and the hopes of one day being able to make a living and provide for my family, doing something I like to do.. instead of something I have to do..

The transitions look very smooth, and the environment do not feel stale! You have done a very nice job!

A good battle system for a turn based game, is usually a mix of knowledge based puzzle solving and decision making, where you learn what counters what and come up with strategies to cover your weaknesses and exploit the opponents weaknesses to get an edge.. maybe the system also has some combos.. and a little bit of randomness to spice things up..

Voice Acting in a RPG Maker game. Your Thoughts?
Kmany replied to Ragnos's topic in Theory and Development
Voice acting, like it is done in Baldursgate is pretty cool.. Sometimes, it can be a whole text that is voice acted, like when the narrator reads the new chapter of the game.. Most of the time however, only a couple of words are voice acted.. Like "Heya, it is me Imoen" which is both spoken and mentioned in the text.. and then the text continues.. but the voice acting does not. It can give a voice an accent and also some personality to the character, but without having to voice act the whole text. -
Baldurs gate! Doing a run of 1 and 2 enhanced edition right now... Tacos or hotdogs?

No voice acting is better than bad voice acting. If you can get talented voice actors, then go for it, but otherwise it is best not to do it imo. -
Wait until after college for a committed relationship?

Do not overthink life too much.. It will be over before you know it.. -
Can a largely non-combat game be good?
Kmany replied to MarrikBroom's topic in Theory and Development
The first non combat games that come to mind is the Leisure suit Larry series.. I only played them as a kid, tho.. But yeah, sure.. why not..- 13 replies

The beast, so that I could seduce the beauty.. Would you rather be the one with diarrhea sitting on the toilet or the one really needing to pee, frantically knocking on the toilet door?

Pretty cool artstyle! Suddenly I have the urge to go buy a big bag of colorful candy...

I would say that those are good bases. The poses look good. I mean, with all art, they could even work like this, depending on the overall art style of your game. Otherwise I would clear up the lines a bit, and add some more shading and highlights. I do not think the eyes are too big, unless you are looking for realism. I would probably thicken the top eyelash tho.

Over the past years I have worked on 2 boardgames that I put aside for the moment. 3 computer games, one in a Viking setting, one in a Postapocalyptic kind of Wild West setting, and the final one in a Scifi setting. And finally my software that I am actually very close to finishing. I took a break from working on these things and just honed up my drawing skills for 3 months at the beginning of the year, and I feel it paid off, just making requests and commissions on Deviantart.. But now for the past two months I am back full force again.. Once the software is done I am going to put more time on one of the games, and try to push it to finish as well, but with these boardgame simulators popping up, It is tempting to make digital versions of the boardgames at some point. So much to do, so little time lol.

The only games I find myself going back to are games where there is (somewhat)randomized loot, and a good character progression/creation system, where you can try different combinations, or games where the challenge lies in surviving for as long as possible, and there is a learning experience attached to dying. Or both. For a single developer or small team, I think it is very hard to create a proper RPG with replay value.. For steam I have noticed that some devs like to make achievements that demand several playtroughs to get, but I think that is the wrong way to go about it.. that is not a fun way to do it, but someone might disagree.. Personally I think a game does not need to have as much replay value, as they needed 10 years ago, since the market and accessibility of new games has changed. It is natural that the player moves on, after a while, even tho some games will pull you back in at occasion. Getting a couple of hours of quality game time for per dollar is acceptable from a small indie dev imo. For an RPG the story and playing experience is the most important.

Sounds like a fun idea That is all I have to say atm.. too tired to try to think up something creative that has not been mentioned.. or a Nymph if somebody did not mention it.. maybe a bipolar Nymph.. in the sense that she wears a long Trenchcoat and hat with sunglasses and then strips off everything when she gets her elevated mood. Okay that sound more like a pervert lol. Need to go rest for a while..
