Thanks for the feedback! I'll definitely experiment more on that battle track. Glad you heard the moods I was going for in the chiptunes. The corresponding game is in being created in AGS--might be a little while before you can play it, but I saw no harm in posting the soundtrack. You're spot on about the robot being a scientist, he's also a black market merchant, and one of the items he can sell you is a bunsen burner. Your piece is excellent, definitely conveys the mood of the frantic yet graceful, deadly dance of swords locked in combat. The pauses really add to the pacing, momentary rests from the strikes and parries, contests of endurance, they're often mutual; we see this in the animal kingdom too, as opponents back off for a few seconds, eyeing each other with muscles tense, ready to spring and lock horns, claws, jaws, what have you.

That's a real nice tune Maxim, and good playing to boot! Tuckie, I quite like the drums in Tussle, especially the moments they ramp up when the sound effects pop (that bass riff and clap at 0:18 is golden). The synth that comes in later is a bit harsh, helps relay the "heat of combat" since it's a battle theme, but you might want to consider lowering the volume on it. I really dig the ending sequence; if you plan on extending the track that'd be a great place to bring back the drums (and other instruments) with a bit more complexity and "oomf". Then maybe remove them one by one over a couple few measures, until you're left with just the clap and the lead, and end with a clap or two. Might be a bit cliche, but I think it could work with your progression. Here's a short battle tune I'd love a bit of feedback on: https://soundcloud.com/6-down/to-battle And a couple chiptunes: https://soundcloud.com/6-down/bit-by-bit (NES) https://soundcloud.com/6-down/byte-by-byte (Genesis) Cheers!

Chilling...I like it.

Neat stuff, my faves are 2, 3, and especially 5. I think 5's body could definitely match his head more, but if eerily uncanny is the desired effect, the muscle shapes/sizes could work; abs almost carapace-like in their shape and depth...hmm... Keep it up!

Great for a first attempt! The silhouette alone is intriguing enough, but I think most of the colours work too. It could definitely do with fewer shades, especially on the legs, though you may end up with a large palette anyway if the green glows are animated. Once you clean up the borders, one area you may want to consider adding a darker line is by the left knee joint, where the shin-plate overlaps the cap thing. The contrast is nice, but lightening the darks and interior border lines (including the one I just mentioned adding) might make the detailed sections a little easier to follow. Keep it up, you're already well ahead most beginners!

Good onya for learning so many aspects of game making, multi-faceted developers are certainly a boon to the indie scene!

Hi there, fellow newcomer myself. I just happened across this post by Cipher; he's looking for playtesters for a neat sounding game too. Best of luck learning new skills, this seems like a good place for that! Lots of people willing to teach and help.

Wow, outstanding artwork! Great to hear you've got such an ambitious character set! Loads of playable characters is something I hope catches on in some subset of the RPG community.

Nice work! He seems well practised now, ready for an opponent Keep it up!

screenshots Too small, too dark, or... just right?

Looks great, wouldn't change the lighting at all! I agree with others on adding a bit more flora to Map 1, and on the stone path circling the fountain, you could try taking the two square corners on the bottom edge (or one actually, since the left one is blocked by a tree), and replacing them with 50/50 path/grass tiles split on the diagonal, to mirror the fountain's octagon shape. Nice details on Map 2, food items and reds and greens in the kitchen have a very agreeable palette. I might tone down the brightness of the of the table rug, and possibly try a new floor tile, but that's all I can think of here (though you might be missing a shadow piece in the bottom left corner?) Real neat sprites in Map 3, I quite like the cape and helmets. I agree that it looks a bit sparse, but that could work if there are a lot of NPCs shopping, or a mechanic to add items to the store inventory as the game progress. Keep it up! -
Nex sounds intriguing, and kudos for free-to-play! When a dev values the product over the profit, it's a good sign they're committed to providing a uniquely entertaining experience. When I get more free time I'll hit you up for playtesting, best of luck!

Salutations! I'm new here too, we can learn the ropes together -
Thanks a lot everyone!

Hello all, name's Luke, freelance animator and jack-of-two-trades. This place seems like a nice community of creative people, so I thought I'd introduce myself to fellow indie developers. I spend a good deal of my time pushing pixels, but I dabble in code, and I've dipped my toes into LMMS. I've got a bit of free time most weeks, so if anybody would like to commission sprites or music, just let me know. Y'all are good people.

Really dig the graphics! Screenshots and teaser are quite intriguing, and the music sets the mood quite well. Looking forward to future updates!

Very cool concept! Darkening the shaded area in the mouth might make that area a bit easier to read, though I'm sure animation would help quite a bit-I imagine even an idle would look real neat, with the jaw opening and closing a bit as he bobs up and down, the tail swaying and the light glinting off the crystals. Keep up the good work!

Good stuff! Working at such a low resolution is tricky, but you've gotten it down. Dig the vibrant colours!

Thanks for the tips and links, I'll definitely check those sub-forums out!
