I'm currently having some trouble with creating a tileset. As someone with much, much more experience in drawing characters, my tilework isn't exactly amazing. Do you think this sort of style would work? I know I'll need to make the trees bigger.
-
Looks like I'll be using the larger sprites. I do have the sprites of the main characters done, but ive yet to draw their faces yet. once I have at least one of each done, I'll post a small test project to show everything off

Which sprite style would look better with this art style? personally I like the bigger one better, but by using it I'll likely have to go and recreate ten or so maps.

Awesome! Thanks for the link! I'll make sure to put it to good use

Not sure where I'd find such a script. I might be able to get a sheet to work, though with such a big image size, I don't know if the program would be able to read it. Alright, I'll work on that now. I'll set up a small map to better show pieces of the environment I intend to follow the style closer, yes. I can make the art style different from just cute when it need be, and I can mix it up when I need to. I'd make it stylized more like the Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, with it's bright and cheery graphics that could still fit well with the darker sections in the game. Are you talking more like It's still rather cartoony but with a more defined face shape and some anime-esque facial features.

I'm kind of aiming for a tone like Steven Universe. It's rather bright and colorful for the most part but can pull off darker and serious moments when it needs to. I agree that the style does look much better animated. I intended to use more lively poses to better capture body language (I'd use little animated gifs that act like idle animations but I don't think I can) depending on the expression, but nothing is set in stone yet

While I did post an update asking if a cartoony art style would work for a medieval rpg, I never attached an example. The overall graphics will be done differently if this art style works with the game, as well as most of the characters as they're acting as placeholders. I'd just like a few opinions on whether this art style could work before continuing.

I mainly just want to use it when walking through a door, that way the characters aren't standing inside it and I don't have to have a limitation to the map building where I need 8 or so steps of empty space in front of and behind a door.

I'm talking when the followers walk into the player's sprite and disappear. The best example I could find right now was this. https://youtu.be/IM1k-uOCj48?t=2m40s

So there is an event I want to put into my game but have never seen anyone mention before, likely because I don't know the name for it. In a few games (the Pokemon Mystery dungeon or Pokemon Ranger games for example) party members seem to kind of phase in with the player. They often either stay that way or reappear when the player starts walking. I'd like to add this effect to the door event, but I'm unsure how to approach it.

Translating a scene from one media to another requires so many changes. I'm debating on adding pictures that better capture my intentions

So currently I'm looking for three different types of dancing animations. I know some of these likely exists somewhere as resources, but I can't seem to find anything. I'm going to include some pictures in spoilers for better reference. I need a standard, twirling ballroom dance, an over the head twirl (a dip at the end isn't necessary), and a pickup twirl. I also need an animation of someone putting on a necklace (by themself, the best example I could find is of two people). I'm using the standard sprite body from the rtp.

Rakkiankh started following Dancing and other Sprite Animations?

Hey, I'm Brenna. I'm a cartoonist and animator aspiring to make a cartoon show on par with the likes of Gravity Falls and Steven Universe. I am currently wrapping up my senior year of high school, which included a class in game design. I purchased RPG Maker VxAce around two years ago when it was on sale, and didn't touch it until a few days ago. The game I'm currently creating is intended to help with world building and development on the previously mentioned cartoon I intend to make. I will mainly be lurking around this forum, so I can't say how much of me you'll see around.
