  1. Thanks! It's just a placeholder until I get a better "Keep Out" sign of some kind. There is a mishap with the units and that's part of the plot of the game Also - that's good that you identified those as VR rooms, haha. I wasn't sure if people would recognize what that was supposed to be or not!

    How does my forest look?

Good catch there, Gray! Thanks! I used a different water tile in the original screenshot, so perhaps that one is a bit more fitting?
  3. After all the feedback and help you've been giving me over the past few days, I thought I would chime in on yours as well! First - how did you do the effect with the light shining in the window in the first screenshot? That looks awesome! Second - I love your idea and I really look forward to seeing how this progresses. The not leveling up and instead using equipment sounds like a really fun twist on the traditional mechanics. Finally - my only real gripe with it is in the first screenshot, the perspective in the bathroom looks a little wonky to me. It took me a while to notice where the door was located and the wall and floor kind of blend together in my eyes for some reason. I will definitely be following this topic!

    How does my forest look?

This feedback is incredible! I will probably take a break from this map and let it simmer for a while, but will definitely come back and reference this feedback when I revisit it. Thanks!
  5. Those quick edits that you made on the fly to the screenshots are impressive! I love the lighting. I have no idea how to do stuff like that within the actual program, haha. Here are two quick ones I have been working on. The first one is the outside of an arcade using the Futuristic Tileset: The 2nd is the inside of that arcade using a mixture of Futuristic, Modern, and some other tiles: Let me know what you think!

Here is my updated forest based on feedback and a few other tweaks. How does that look now?

    New Project Workflow

Thanks for all of the tips everyone! I had not seen that other thread, so reading over that definitely helped a lot. I really like your approach CVincent, and see that probably working out the best for me as well. My project partner and I are going to have a planning meeting this weekend to break down some of the tasks (he lives overseas so it is pretty tough for us to find mutual time to chat about things in detail). Thanks again everyone!

    New Project Workflow

Alright, so I have been dabbling with RPGMaker for years and I think I have finally reached the point both in terms of having a complete, original idea, skill with the program, and enough understanding to utilize and adjust things how I want to actually finish a project. I've got a partner working on it with me and I am more motivated than ever to finally get it finished. My career is as a writer - I do freelance writing covering gaming and technology for a bunch of different websites and I'm a full-time script writer at an employee communications company. As a result, I am pretty confident in my writing skills and in my ability to multi-task, research quickly, etc. However, managing and organizing a game is something brand new to me. Thus my question: How do you prioritize and organize your game projects in terms of the workflow? In other words, what do you prioritize in which order? Do you focus on writing the full, completed, script first and nailing down all the plot points? Do you create things in chunks (aka make the first map, fill in all of the NPCs, plug in the dialogue, and finish the first area completely before moving on)? Do you map everything first? Do you create skeletons of each area for the general map layout and move along from there? Do you focus on perfecting your battle system and gameplay mechanics first? I'd love to see what other (successful) RPG Maker devs are doing to streamline their projects. I find myself easily overwhelmed with details and am willing to change up my workflow if it can help me focus and complete things one at a time. Discuss!

    How does my forest look?

The trees dispersed around the open spaces is a great idea! I really just kind of freestyled this whole area, but I feel like a dummy for not thinking of that – it is a forest after all. Makes sense. And no, I am not parallaxing, this is all done in the editor – just with some great trees from Celiana (if I remember correctly, not at home right now, so I can’t check where certain stuff came from at the moment.) Thank you for the kind words! Those are some stellar ideas and I am really excited to try them out when I get home tonight. Thanks!

    How does my forest look?

Thanks! For the day lighting, that is just an overlay image used to give the illusion of a sunlight effect. That overlay is static, but when you're moving it looks pretty nice still, imo. For night time, I am using Victor's Light Effect script and have given the player a "lantern" effect Thanks! Could you go into a bit more detail or provide a visual example of what you mean by hills and height variation? Do you mean something along the lines of what i did in the top right corner, except some smaller instances of that spread around here and there for variety? And what do you mean by more height and random empty spots in the trees? Thank you so much for the feedback - this is my first game and I have been dabbling and lurking for a long, long time,

    How does my forest look?

Just looking for some basic feedback! I spent a lot of time making this forest and included two in-game level screenshots of it as well, one during the day-time, and one during the night-time. Full forest: Day Close-Up: Night Close-Up:

I need a battle system like a online game?

Yeah I plan on using it in a future project of my own and there is a REALLY good multi-part YouTube walkthrough on this script right here. That guy has a ton of really good videos as well.
  14. Hey Tsarmina, since posting that I have found and am using Mack's stuff (as well as the season edits) in additional to Celianna and a bunch of others. Thanks!
  15. Keep up the amazing work, this project should be viewed as a beacon of hope in the RPG Maker community. It proves that with the right mixture of talent and creativity, you can really make something not only impressive, but financially successful with the power of the RPG Maker program. Congratulations and I wish the entire team the best of luck. I can't wait to see how much money you end up raising!
