    Progress Update

    Big Update for Graphics and Game play. EDIT: SS has an error and uploaded a new one for GAB. Things are on track for March, however work has been exceptionally more trouble than anticipated. We've just gone through a layoff which took away 50% of our work force making me in a bad position to event at normal hours. If I cannot release the new demo by March 15th I will let you things more to end of April after spring break. I am highly motivated to do this project, but I am "time poor". It's like a new type of poverty. Next Update will focus on maps and portraits.

    DS+ Resource Pack contents

    What exactly is in the DS+ resource pack? I would have liked to have seen a full table of contents before purchasing, but it was kind of inevitable that I'd buy it eventually since I quite enjoyed the other DS pack. Feel free to ask if you want to know something specific. Audio: this consists of twenty looping .ogg tracks with descriptive names such as 'Dance party of blessing' and 'The misfortune appeared'. The tracks fit the DS theme really well and some of them are actually pretty good. I particularly enjoyed 'Cave where demon lives'. Scripts: seriously, who buys these resource packs for the scripts? Gimme the graphics! Battlebacks: a few nice settings for modern/Japanese/sci-fi themed games. They're the Ace-style battlebacks with the top and bottom sections separate, so you can make your own combinations. Battlers: this is interesting. There are some standard battlers in a very similar style to the Ace RTP. Then there's a bunch of cute little pixel battlers, over 100 of them. Unfortunately they're not animated, but they do look pretty cool. Characters: fountain, doors, pond, sewer, white bird, a bunch of school kids/samurais/robots to match the modern/Japanese/sci-fi theme they have going. There are some behaviour sprites that match the sprites from the first DS pack, as well as some cute new monster sprites: one of them is a person who's missing half his skin. Faces: the faces match the sprites that come with this pack and each face has four emotions: normal, happy, sad and shocked. The art style is noticeably different from the that of the first DS pack, being a little closer to the faces in the Ace RTP. There are faces representing 37 different characters. Pictures: one of my favourite things about this pack is that the faces come with matching busts, including the different emotions. Balloons: there are two sets of the little emotion-thingies that pop up in balloons. One of them doesn't have actual balloons, which is a nice change. Tilesets: this fills in the gaps left by the other DS pack, such as volcano-themed and modern tiles. I really like the art style, everything looks a little smaller and cuter to fit the DS theme. You might find the formatting a tad strange since each set sticks strictly to a theme, filling up only some of the available space with tiles and leaving the rest empty. Each set has a text file revealing what exactly the tiles are, so that's helpful. Once again, the tiles cover the modern/Japanese/sci-fi theme of the pack. There's also a ship tileset. I think these tiles combined with the tiles from the first DS pack make a more complete set than the Ace RTP. Extra: there's a folder containing some dismembered DS-style sprites and an extremely odd .jar file which claims to be a sprite and bust generator. It doesn't actually generate busts, I'm guessing because there are no bust parts anywhere to be found. There are drop-down lists whose names don't correspond with their contents ('Cloak' contains pieces of hair, for instance) and other lists with nothing in them at all. Apparently you have to set it up by adding more folders yourself. Thanks, but I'd rather just franken stuff in GIMP. Of course the advantage of a .jar file is that it should run in Linux and Mac OS too (because I totally use RM in Linux all the time). Bonus: yet another folder containing the same battlers and battlebacks, but in large sizes. The battlebacks are 640x480 while the battlers are like, 3000x2000 and awesome.

  6. I'm not sure this is the best place to ask this, but I really need to know. Where in the FLYING HELL did all of the resources this site used to provide go? I remember there was a gallery chock-full of titles and sounds and graphics and whatnot. It looks like it's still there but there's literally nothing in any of the files. Is this some kind of prank? Did the website get wiped clean and I just missed an update or something? What's going on? Any help is appreciated.
  7. Welcome to our first large ReStaff release. Unlike the previous two, this one will include all of the active Resource Staff, Nicke, pjcr, Andinator, and Jonnie91. So let's get to the point the goodies...This months theme is Steampunk. Please remember that this release is strictly for this site. DO NOT REDISTRIBUTE TO OTHER SITES. A link to this page is the only thing allowed. I'll be uploading a RAR file with all of the past releases shortly. It will also give more details on the requirements for using the resources. The basics are to credit the respective artists if you use these resources and also VXA.N (this site) So Nicke's up first this week with an awesome script that adds sound to footsteps. GRAB IT HERE I'm sure you may have seen many scripts like it, but this one has yet another feature! You can customize different sounds for different events and players! So regular people can have normal noises, but a tank or car could have an engine noise! Also, be sure to grab his core XS script. You'll need to place this above any of his XS scripts for them to work GRAB IT HERE Next up is my release for this month. First off here's a track I've made to show the darker side of steampunk. So close your eyes and be careful not to burn yourself in your visit to my Steaming Wonderland I've also made a few SFX noises to go with Nicke's footstep script, including a Robotic Noise! You'll see why that's important in a bit Footsteps.rar And then comes Andinator and pjcr with yet another Battler + Sprite combination!     Resource Backlog #2 - Tiles Welcome to the second of the Backlog series of blogs. This time I'll be compiling all my older tiles and chipsets. I've done a lot of work over the past year or so on customising tiles to fit my games and what I have, I'm happy to share. As always, credits are appreciated if these are used in your own games. Closer to the RTP color scheme: One tile high shelves, roof to match the hut, window edits, boxes More tiles: Sideways stepping stones/path, recoloured barrel, well, chimney and windows.
