SYNOPSIS Shoka is specifically designed to make sure YOU WON'T WIN. Kinda reminiscent of those "Kaizo" games e.g. Emerald Kaizo and Kaizo Mario. The mechanics are pretty simple to understand, anyone who've played any RPG Maker game should know the game's control but just in case there's people who have never heard of RPG Maker reading this forums, the controls are as follows: Z - SELECT X - CANCEL ARROW KEYS - NAVIGATION This game is nigh impossible because even if you over-level yourself, there will still be some bosses that can destroy you if you make a wrong move, and if you screw up too much, you might have to restart the entire game since save points are very limited. Discounting the bosses, some random encounters can catch you off-guard and send you to the game over screen! Apart from that, there's not much to worry about, this game isn't confusing at all, everything is pretty linear and laid out with some hidden items here and there, all you need to do is not lose. I will not be delving into anything pertaining to this game here like it's character or plot, except for the opening sequence, which is an average person coincidentally stumbling across a gateway. I understand that dropping some spoilers about the lore and gameplay is good for hooking in potential players, but Shoka is best played completely blind as the feeling of playing through a game for the first time without any outside knowledge is truly sacred. Hell, even the images I posted below are completely meaningless without any context. You might argue this defeats the purpose of using "Inline spoiler" but let's be real here, our instinctual curiosity will lead us to clicking on the spoiler tag so it never had a purpose to begin with. If you want to know more about the game, you can watch this trailer and read the wall of text in the comment section. There are spoilers but I kept it pretty minimal, nothing about the lore or major events. And if you STILL have any questions that you want to ask before or after playing Shoka, you can contact me directly via my discord server, as my DMs are always open. The community is pretty friendly too, albeit chaotic most of the time. IMAGES AND SCREENSHOTS DOWNLOAD LINKS https://gamejolt.com/games/Shoka/621091 https://xolze-telos.itch.io/shoka

Greetings: Hello, everyone! The name is Brandon Lee, and before I waste your time telling you all cliches and platitudes about how I love video games and stuff, I just want to announce that My name is Brandon Lee, and I love video games. Alright, no more jokes (for now). Right now, like right now, I just founded Vulgaris Studios, my own independent video game studio. I will take the time to discuss what I need, what project I am working on, and the direction of the project as a whole. So, let's get started! Who am I? As I stated before, the name is Brandon Lee. From a very young age, I started playing a lot of classic RPGs my older cousin introduced me to. These games included: Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IV-VIII, and The Early Tales Series Games (Destiny, Phantasia, Rebirth). When I beat Chrono Trigger many years ago, I was impressed by how prolific the game was. I loved the story, the music, just everything about it. From there, I started daydreaming about creating my own game. After a quick google search (create rpgs for free), I soon became acquainted with the RPG Maker series, and long story short, I became a programmer. Life soon became reality for me, and following hobbies sure wasn't paying the bills. So, I got a boring job and now I own my own company. What made me consider creating my own game for real was when I read the transcript of an interview by Takashi Tokita, the game director of Chrono Trigger, one of my favorite games of all time! He blatantly stated that when Chrono Trigger was first planned, Square wasn't making a whole lot of money. Their releases were modest and sales weren't too high, yet he says that he urged the higher-ups to continue with the project, and you know the rest after that. The game blew up. I figured in I put in the hard work and believed in my project that it would succeed too. Well, that's that. I'm a old-school retro gamer who happens to be a businessman. Now, let me explain the project. Project Final Arcane: The name I chose for this project is Final Arcane. Final Arcane is a 2D Anime RPG with distinguished elements from the classic RPGs from my childhood, and blended with story elements from my favorite anime. Yes, if you haven't figured out already, I love watching anime. In any case, this project will be entirely developed on the RPG Maker MV engine. Allow me to discuss the plot: In the beginning, the Three Goddesses of Light created the world of Arcania. They sought to create a world in which their creation could thrive or fall entirely by its own merit. Accordingly, the Goddesses created the Humans and the Spirits. The Spirits were blessed with the Goddesses' natural aura. Thus, they had the ability to use magic. Humans, on the other hand, were adept in other areas such as intelligence, dexterity, and physical talents. Initially, both were able to live in peace. In turn, the Spirits soon taught the Humans how to use magic. This act of kindness soon evolved into a volatile conflict. As humans developed magic, they became increasingly violent towards each other. Kingdoms rose throughout the land and war erupted throughout. When the Spirits tried to intervene, they were wiped out. With the extinction of the spirits, one kingdom reigned supreme throughout Arcania. This was the Kingdom of Nubes, led by Queen Lexus. Queen Lexus was unmatched in power. Her beauty and might became legendary. She was revered as a Goddess, and in order to cement herself more powerful than the Goddesses, she created an immortal being named Kudgen. Kudgen was everything in one word, invincible. The Goddesses trembled in fear of the thought of facing Queen Lexus' tyrannical reign. Instead, they personally created a hero to stop this being. He was named Damon, the sorcerer. Sorcerer Damon was powerful enough to easily defeat Queen Lexus. But, he struggled mightily upon facing Kudgen. Ultimately, he sealed Kudgen deep beneath the Earth, while sapping its power low so it could not rampage again. The battle left a large scar upon the Earth. Damon personally forgave the Humans and restored everything to them. This time, he made sure magic was forgotten by every human. Meanwhile, Damon created an instituted known as the Five Points Guild, a aggregation of five master guilds whose goal was to protect and govern Arcania's citizens. These guilds were known as Lumen, Aldix, Srequl, Klavista, and Grandine. However, 300 years after its institution, the human's returned to their deviant ways and corrupted the Five Points Guild. Instead of protecting the citizens of Arcania, the Five Points Guild ignore the citizen's needs, fill up their pockets, and laze around for their own personal gain. The Premise: Wow. That was long to write. Anyway, I stated the plot of Final Arcane. Let me explain how it ties into the game: As talented as Sorcerer Damon was, he did have one flaw. He settled down on Earth to govern it, and as such, he had his own descendants. These descendants are collectively known as the Amethyst. Now that magic has been forgotten throughout Arcania, the Amethyst is the world's last magic user. Commander Virgil, the de facto leader of the Five Points Guild, wants to capture the Amethyst at all costs in order to revive Kudgen. With all of the corrupted guilds on his side, the Amethyst herself seeks out the help of the worst guild on the planet, Grandine. Not only is Grandine superbly untalented and fails every one of their missions, the guild is employed of Torus, the main character and an A-class idiot, Drake, an under-achieving intellectual who serves as the team's leader, and Robin, the guild's perverted ninja. As the world's last hope, Kurami teams together with Torus and Grandine as they protect her from the Five Points Guild who has turned on the world, and a certain mystery foe. Influences: What makes this project special is that it combines the visual and the abstract elements of the classic RPGs of yesteryear and the story-making and character development elements of anime. Much like Chrono Trigger and the Tales Series, I want Final Arcane to be a symbolic JRPG. However, I also want to make the game a bit modern and appealing, while not sacrificing its originality. Final Arcane, in short, will be an old-school Anime JRPG, with a modern feel for new-age gamers. I believe that this project will sell, and just like Tokita, I'm not giving up. Now, it's time to announce who I need. We need Everyone! Being a new video game studio, I'm the only one "we" got. To get this game to reach unimaginable heights, I will need a Mapper, 2D Artist, Composer, and a Concept Artist. I really don't have any requirements for our team members. I mean, beggers can't be choosers right? However, I want all applicants to be determined, honest, and reliable. I am willing to add more people to our team to fill in more roles, so if you feel like you can contribute, go ahead and apply. In addition, this is initially a volunteer position. I want to build trust with my team first and get every settled. Though, I did mention that I run a company, so when the whole team is producing the way I want, I will have no problem paying for your services. Notice I italicized the word, paying. While I would be happy to pay my team, I can't pay anyone $70k a year or anything like that. I have to pay bills too and I work a full time job. I am taking money out of my pocket to pay my team and make this project successful. Therefore, please bear with me. Final Word: I'm not going to make any empty promises about how much this game is going to sell. I'm not about to give some empty platitudes either. I wrote this post because I truly want to construct a team so we can do something special together. Otherwise, I wouldn't have wasted my time. I guess the bulk of this post just introduced Final Arcane, but that's only because I want all applicants to be sold on this project and be as excited about it as I am. In any case, if you are interested, please PM me, reply to this thread, or you can email me at vulgarisstudios@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you all!

Greetings lost wanderer ! Soooo , for the past weeks , I have spent time drawing a few arts in order to develop my skills but then a major blockup came across my path , I am unable what art style to use . So the questions are : - Is it ok to have multiple art style instead of just one? I feels like , sometimes , an art style can be specific to one artist and can even portray their signature , but I cannot be satisfied with only one art style ! Therefore , would it be ok this way ? - Among those five drawings-drafts ( I actually have a dozen other art styles but I only used four of them with my graphic tab so far .) which one do you actually prefer ? First artstyle is almost chibi-like with minor shading but a slightly wider color palette for the hair . Its sketchy and colors are solid. Unlike other artstyles , legs are not very realistic and goes from thinner by the thighs to thicker by the feet : Second artstyle (I have already published on another topic , I do know) , the artstyle is not chibi-like but not too realistic either . It's simplistic but has a bit of details . Proportions are more anime-like with bigger eyes , bigger head , droopy shoulders , very round features and structure . It has shading and a bit of lighting for the hair. The "outer" outlines are black but the "inner" outlines are lighter and the color is closer to the filling : Third artstyle is a closer aspect of the anime style but still in a cuter art style . There are a bit more details , minor lighting for the hair and shading . The "outer" outlines are black but the "inner" outlines are lighter and the color is closer to the filling : Fourth artstyle is a more realistic in proportions . It has less lighting effect but has a more detailed shadowing ( I guess ) and more details . The outlines and the shading are sometimes a bit smoothed down on the ends . The "inner" and "outer" oulines are both black : Fifth artstyle is quite similar to the third one but with a cuter aspect and the head is even bigger than the body . It has more shading ( there is one shading for the part that is facing the light , and a shading for the part that is hidden from the light source.) It has a bit of details but it is mostly for the eyes and the patterned areas . The "outer" outlines are black but the "inner" outlines are lighter and the color is closer to the filling : Thank you very much for taking your time to read this post . It is greatly appreaciated !

My Thoughts on Anime/Manga and Japanese Culture
Kayzee posted a blog entry in KilloZapit's Magical Fairyland
So... Anime and/or Manga. There are so many people who are are absolutely obsessed with them, and after finding myself on yet another YouTube channel dedicated to reviewing and discussing it it made me want to talk about some of my feelings too the mediums. Or are they genres? Honestly I kind of think they are something that is somewhere in between, perhaps "supergenre" or "metagenre" would be more appropriate. And honestly as much as the animation of Anime and sequential art of Manga are two different mediums, they do sort of share a common visual language and common tropes more then most any other. This is not even including visual novels and light novels and how they influence things, or the collection of video games that use a lot of the same elements. Perhaps it would be better to define the whole thing more in terms of an art movement or a culture then any thing else. Perhaps not. Regardless of how you define it, I think of it as a set of art within a distinct aesthetic spectrum. It's a common mistake to think of it as more or less a single thing or a single genre. It isn't. All sort sorts of different types of stories and different types of art styles fit into the same general category. Cowboy Bebop is a much different kind of thing then Doraemon. As much as I hate thinking in terms of national or racial divisions of culture, the most common and easiest to understand way of defining this sort of nebulous thing is simply to use the would "Japanese", but there are still a few edge cases that may or may not be included simply based on a whim. Should Avatar: The Last Airbender be included? Should Crayon Shin-chan not be included? It's really up to how people define it. But all of this I think is kind of commonly understood at this point I think, because people have argued back and forth about what is or is not included in this category and why for decades. It should be noted that in Japan, "anime" and "manga" basically mean "animation" and "comics" in general. I think it's interesting that, in the USA at least, we think of "anime" and "manga" as distinct things independent of "animation" and "comics" even if they really sort of aren't. And yet at the same time, they sort of are. Here is the thing... though I have mixed feelings about a lot of the stuff that can get lumped in the same nebulous category, I have to admit the style and imagination of most of it far outshines a vast majority of the stuff I see from what can be thought of as "The West". Most of this is just my personal sense of aesthetics. I hate how a lot of "western" style art looks. I hate "western" comic book style. I hate the over exaggeration of lips, I hate the smaller less expressive eyes, I hate the square jaws, I hate the proportions, ect, ect. And "western" cartoons seem to have evolved to vastly exaggerated and weird nonsensical lumps of shapes that look more like abstract art then anything recognizable. The common Japanese "Manga" style though? I like the simpler, more expressive art compared to comic books while being much less abstract and inhuman then "cartoon" style. Also Moe is cute. There I said it. But... Even if I like the art style most of Anime/Manga style works and like a lot of the basic character archetypes and story elements, well... I don't want to be racist or anything, but there is so much about the Japanese cultural sensibilities that sneak into these works that frankly bug the hell out of me. And yeah, examining Japanese culture form the lens of Anime and Manga is often kind of like examining American culture form the lens of Hollywood. Which the Japanese totally do by the way, but that's besides the point. Thing is, it's actually in my mind a totally fair thing to do, as long as it is done with the understanding that: 1. The perceived flaws in the popular culture of a race or nation does not imply that all or even most of the people of that race or nation share those flaws, 2. An outsider who has not grown up in that culture is more then likely not going to have all the contextual background needed to understand it, and 3. Culture is a nebulous thing that people may or may not prescribe too, and not all examples of trends in works equate to deeper cultural trends. So, if people do happen to look at American popular culture and see a unfortunate implications pointing to Americans being bunch of gun happy, imperialist, xenophobic, racist, and sexist assholes who care about nothing but militarily, economically, or culturally dominating all other peoples, then, well, yes. Yes their are a lot of unfortunate implications to that effect. Believe me, there are a lot of us who are very very much aware of how screwed up our culture is. Japanese popular culture though? Well... they have a different problem. And no, I am not talking about otaku culture or hikikomoris or NEETs. Those are just symptoms. I am talking about something much more fundamental to the "Japanese mindset". I am talking about shame culture and social pressure. Maybe it's just me who was raised in something closer to a guilt culture (and has formally rejected both, and every other, form of social control), but I find that sort of social manipulation of the individual absolutely appalling. Yet if you look at anime, it happens all the time, and is treated as a good thing. What do you think all those "friendship speeches" are really about? In a nation where so much pressure is put on individuals to succeed in school and conform to a traditional lifestyle, it just really gets under my skin. And maybe that's not fair of me to say. But then again, if my interpretation of a particular anime is correct, at least someone agrees with me. This isn't of course the only problem. I can see a lot of undercurrents of sexism and xenophobia in anime as well, a lot of trivialization of social problems, a lot of collectively looking the other way whenever having to deal with things. The degree of how much this stems form shame culture, I am not sure. And it's not like it is any worse then any other problem that people have. I don't know. Anyway, I am not going to judge a whole people for a few niggling moral concerns about the entertainment they produce. Just... a lot of anime really bugs me. I guess it's the same way Hollywood often bugs me. It's corporate produced and mindless a lot of the time and it often pushes a status quo which, if you really think about it, isn't exactly most people's ideal society. Oh well. Bah... why do I get the feeling I am going to half to defend myself later? Oh well... That's just my gut reaction. -

Depending on you’re reading speeds Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/srwhope Real Route Long Version Super Route Long Version Unit Information Another Character from the Super Route, (I am yet to give him a spirit) Still working on the Real Route character and mecha, here is what I have so far.. There are more original character’s, I just have not put them in the game yet. The following contains a big number series I’ll be using for the Super Route only, as I am yet to finish the Real Route. I will add unit’s from the real route, once I've done the main plot of the real route. (I don’t want to say you can play with these characters, when they aren't in the game yet.) There are hidden series, for you to discover. They will be featured during the combined route. I will not be providing a summary for these reasons. A) You know the anime and character’s - Giving you a description would be pointless You don’t know the anime and character’s - Then why would you read/care about a description. This Game is based off Super Robot Wars Neo for the Wii and OE for the PSP. I will try and bring all the features from those two games into this one. Along with RPG adventure elements. This is a Solo Project; however I had taken resource’s from various different places. Credits are subjected to change due to me no longer having any need of it. Stuff here subject to changed, when stuff happens. Recruitment: A Die Hard Anime Fan - to make sure I got all the character’s in character. An Artist - for all sprites, pictures and animation’s for all units. A Mapper - to make the areas of the game, Such as all the Space levels A Spell Checker - to read over and correct my witting A translator - to make sure I got line’s from Geppy-X correct. (I’m just making the Geppy-X lines.) I am currently using the RPG marker sprites, which doesn’t give the mech’s proper justice. As seen with the screenshot’s. Game trailer: Triller for an old version of the game. I made it in Windows Movie maker. (This is really old….. Note: The character busts that are posted here could be used by anyone, for reference or for your game, just don't forget to credit me. The image above is a GIF. **Updates Wow. It has been a while since I last posted. Well, a lot has happened... Serious stuff. I can't work on art for months, but I did try to work on the story of my game. And now, I'm working on the battle sprites. So.. yeah. This is my first time trying to do a battle sprite from scratch. (First frame of the idle pose) This isn't done yet, though. But once I'm finished with this, every other pose will follow. Comments are appreciated. >> >> Edit: Did I mention that I hate the boots? And that I suck at color palettes? :I Comments please? Review: Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth 2~
Nekotori posted a blog entry in Kotori-chan`s Review Adventures~
STORY: Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth 2 offers another story that involves our all time favorite gaming consoles. But you don`t have to play the first Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth on vita to play this one since both games offer a different story or should I say a different dimension of Gamindustri. The story is quite straightforward, you play as Nepgear (Neptunes younger sister as well as a CPU Candidate) and your goal is to save Gamindustri from destruction by freeing the four captive CPUs (Goddesses which maintains the balance of Shares in the game world) from their binds. But even the story is quite linear, the character interactions what makes this game quite enjoyable since they do throw in some humor and a little bit of anime-like situations. The characters also have some unique characteristics especially the four main CPUs and their CPU Candidates (Little sisters) which adds flavor to the wall of texts you will be encountering. (Visual Novel Style) GAMEPLAY: Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth 2 shares the exact same elements from it`s first game but of course with a few added content. The game uses a turn based battle system which utilizes different combos (Rush, Power and Break Combos). These combos can be freely customized by the player as long as they have enough points to spare before the cost exceeds it`s limit. Each type of combo commands do different effects like Rush commands focus on high hit counts, Power commands focus on bringing down the pain (low hit count) and Break commands which focuses on destroying the enemy`s guard points (if the guard points reaches 0, a "guard break" will occur greatly reducing that particular enemy`s defense). The "remake system" also comes back from the first game in which you can manipulate in game elements like changing what type of enemies appear in a certain dungeon, what types of items you get on dungeons, expanding the shop`s selection and unlocking various stuff as long as you have the necessary "plan" (An item which you can find throughout the game world) and "memory" (another item you can get on the game) to spare. The new feature added in this game are: Stella`s Dungeon (which serves as a mini game where in you send Stella on dungeons to gather items and defeat monsters. Sending Stella to a dungeon and waiting for her to come back uses actual minutes in real life) and the maximum number of active battle participants are 4 instead of 3 from rebirth 1. The game also features an EXE gauge where in you can add another additional combo to your existing combo commands when the bar fills to a certain point. The EXE gauge can be filled via dealing damage to enemies and you can also unleash EXE Attacks (that consumes a certain amount of EXE Gauge) which is extremely powerful than your typical skills. It also features transformation for CPUs and CPU Candidates which boosts their combat capability by a certain amount as well as their cool factor~ MUSIC: The music fits the theme since the game is about cutesy anime like scenario and characters. Expect to have a lot of cute sound effects and music. The game also features dual audio where in you can select Japanese or English for the voices. I highly recommend you to pick what suits you (I personally prefer Japanese) since both voice actings are good. FUN FACTOR: The fun part in this game lies within two parts: the humor in the story and the battle system. The quirky characters along with their humorous conversations will surely make your adventure worth while. The battle system is also enjoyable and the awesome skill and attack animations serves as eye candy for the rpg enthusiasts. The game also has a disc development feature where in you burn discs that has various effects when equipped (You get to choose what perks you want to add) and some discs can be so godly (in terms of effects) that it is named by various popular games. (The Hyperdimesion Neptunia series is a parody of various gaming merchandises, items, and devices. REPLAYABILITY: The game features a New Game+ and multiple endings which will need multiple playthroughs or save files to unlock everything. There is also a colosseum for hardcore battles and DLCs which can will extend your time with Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth 2. SCORE: 7 cats out of 10 Pros: -Very good battle system -Customizable combos -Remake System -Disc Dev let`s you add your own customizable effects to your characters. -Cute Anime graphics Cons: -Linear story -If you're not a fan of anime cutesy, this isn`t a game for you -Enemies feels like a reskin of each other (No big difference in them except for their appearance) -Some battles are quite easy (Enemy AI is kinda dumb) but tedious because of their insane amounts of HP and GP (Guard Points) -Not for hardcore RPG lovers-

Urban Fantasy, experimental JRPG
blamethepoet posted a topic in Archived Games -Projects that have been inactive for 12 months are stored here.
Hi everyone! I'm here to introduce my "experimental project". I work as a writer in the videogame field with indie companies, though I must say that my first love is Rpgmaker, the first gamedev tool I learnt to deal with, and in two weeks I started using a trial version of Ace and created a brand new project. The provisional title is Urban Fantasy. PREMISE Urban Fantasy is an experimental JRPG featuring an urban environment, social problems, thrill and fantasy. In order to melt these two different aspects (Urban and Magic) the game focuses on the commonly excluded social cathegories you never heard something about when played traditional JRPGs like students, salarymen, policemen, poors etc... the same for the representation of an environment which has a strong narrative potential as our cities are. Subsequently such a setting gives us room to portray an URBAN kind of magic, dealing mainly with the popular kinds of arts we usually witness everyday on walls, tv etc.. as Psychic abilities, Graffiti, Cyber abilities, Rapping etc... can be but those are just an example of what I have in mind.
