dwimmerdelve Yay, Did some more work on Dwimmerdelve stuff.
Kayzee posted a blog entry in KilloZapit's Magical Fairyland
Yay, I have actually been doing stuff related to my game for once! For example. made a basic sprite for a character I have been thinking about adding to my game for a while. I present to you, "The Azure Demon": She's the owner of one of the dungeon areas in my game, a mansion near a misty lake I called "The Azure Demon Mansion". I know, I know, a color themed 'evil creature' girl who owns a mansion, never been done before! She also has an army of ninja maids! 'Original character do not steal'. Maybe I should populate the mansion with more wholly original characters! Like a lazy gatekeeper, a sickly librarian with a cute imp assistant, a head maid that can stop time, and a sister she keeps locked away in the basement because she's too wild. Woah there maybe I should spread some of that originality around a bit! Thinking of having her actual name be something like Lapidea Lazul Lājevard. ... Though I could imagine her fairy name being Lazzy Lass Glasgeamchloch if she was a fairy. Personally I think that name is muuuuch cooler. Maybe I will use that as a pet name! Think it would annoy her? Edit: Oh! Almost forgot to say what her roll in my game is! Looking like she is going to be the second major boss in my game, and probably going to be the leading character in what I have called before the 'demon subplot'. She's also cute as a button. That's a very important plot point that needs to be addressed up front. So be warned, I intend to make this demon super duper cute. -

The Do's, Dont's, and the Get-a-Ways of Character Development
Rezanta posted a topic in Developing Tools
Heya folks, after playing games, watching movies, seeing animations, and reading stories, I've noticed there seems to be a fine line between what's acceptable for developing characters, and what isn't allowed. before continuing these points, I do want to mention that developing takes time, work, perseverance, and even error. In addition, character development is like an art, there are multiple ways to go about one method, much like the styles of shading. I've dealt with my fair share of delevoping characters, the list stretching to 177, and while I may start from a random part of my imagination, I will repeat that that this is not the only way, but could be one way that may help you in the processes. Let's start off with a name. For the purpose of examples, I'll be using my character Rilumia. Your character's name should have a reflection to the style of names your world has, whether it be Japanese, English, Scottish, some self-created language, and so on. You will also want to avoid repeating certain name aspects, as this can get the reader/player confused on name pronunciation. For example, I have two dragons by the name of Rea and Rei. The only major difference in the last letter. Rea is pronounced "Re-uh", while Rei is, well, "Re." This alone can be confusing as you try to remember what character has what name. In some cases, however, you're able to get away with this. Twins, siblings, family names, and how the family's language works are a few of possibly many exceptions. Names should also have a reason to them. Rilumia used to be a demon, thus she has a multi-syllable name that is akin to the race of demons of Scalvose. Your next step is possibly going to be determining what the character likes and dislikes, along with the personality. Rilumia absolutely adores animals, so you can feel a soft spot in the character's overall context as she grows throughout the story of the book, piece, or game. You will want to avoid basing likes off of other characters until you finish everything that the character likes on their own terms. Let's set up a small sheet below, so keep a bit of formatting while determining the character's development. Name: Rilumia Likes: Animals, the ocean breeze, flowers, food, and long walks through the forests. Dislikes: Blood, sickness, fighting, sour candies, silence. (Note: You don't have to place these in a sentence-like format. This is my style of setting these up.) When it comes to what a character likes and dislikes, or love and avidly hate, and so on, they do not have to be polar opposites. You can have a soft-hearted man who lacks a backbone love heavy metal just as much as a kid loves candy. If the character loves sour things, they don't have to hate sweet things. For every like, it adds to the character if you can provide a reason behind why they like something. Rilumia loves flowers because she can utilize them as a defensive measure when she's attacked, and the ocean breeze makes her feel unbound from other mundane tasks. She's a cook, so food is something she would enjoy. Walks through the forest allow her to see animals and plants, which increase her enjoyment down to the earth. The same goes for dislikes. Rilumia is a bit of a germaphobe, so she will definitely dislike getting sick or seeing blood, and while she isn't against injuring somebody to protect herself, if a fight is avoidable in any possible way, Rilumia will try to take that path. Disliking silence comes from her personality, which is our next subject. Personality: Sultry, gentle, adventurous, cunning, partially germaphobic, and slightly seductive. The character's personality has all rights to reflect their likes and dislikes, and don't let others say otherwise. You know your character more than the next guy down the street, so you ned to convey the reasons behind their personality. In addition, personalities can't be abstract, as they must be reflected in each word of the character in some way. However, you don't need to reflect every personality aspect in one line or word all the time. Sometimes the character can have enough mentality to know when to be mature and push their own feelings aside for a while. Or, like my character Darkness, can be complete morons and not understand much of what goes on around him, other than when he's hit for being perverted or making crude jokes. Their personality needs to exsist. Rilumia loves poking her nose towards the winds of a journey, and while she may be bothered by germs and the like, she's gentle and rarely shows her disgust. Though she doesn't mean to be, she has a seductive tone to her words sometimes, which irks others. Otherwise, being sultry, she has a passionate heart and to some, she does rather attract them. Blessings: Quick to protect those in need, Green thumb. Banes: Body scales are soft and fragile, very energetic. (Note: These can be called pros and cons, strengths and weaknesses, and so on.) Lastly, I want to talk about blessings and banes. These are things that the character excells and fully fails at, regardless of how strange they may be. Rilumia, once she fell in love with a dragon's scale, it eventually lead to her falling in love with the dragon, himself. Demon blood is severly malleable in terms of race, and thus her body started to slowly corrupt, or change into that of a dragon. She doesn't know if she still has enough demon blood in her to continue being changed, but she doesn't really care too much as it opened many new paths of life for her, whether in the form of strength, endurance, smell, and the list goes on. However, her true self is still present in her mind, which gives her a constant questioning on what has happened to her as time has gone. In term of the change, her scales are as soft as velvet, and can easily be removed like a bird feather. However, this doesn't stop her from being quick to shield blows aimed at innocent people. On the downside, the amount of energy in her body tends to keep her up at night a lot, forcing her to try and find ways to calm herself to sleep, like reading, seditives, and the old attempts of drinking warm milk. This is a basic outline to get started on fleshing out your characters, which I hope helps you all in need of it. If you have any questions, comments, or feel as if I misstated a part, please leave a comment below and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. -

Talking Sprite until the dialogue is finished
KazerLight posted a topic in Editor Support and Discussion
Hello ! I am using RPG Maker VX Ace and there is what I want to do : I would like to make an event, where the sprite, assigned to this event, has a "talking animation" which is playing until the text of a message has finished to appear. I did two versions of my sprite : one normal and one which talks. How can I proceed ? Thanks in advance. -

Dante is the human who got bitten and became Pucho. His name is unknown at the start of the comic, so his name i listed as "???" when the game begins. His name is learned relatively quickly, though it matters only for one particular character who pops up later and remembers him and what he used to be like... Sprite courtesy of user Chaokobon from the FFC fandom Discord server. (He also made a black-and-white version of the sprite for flashback purposes.)

I've had trouble finding dragon sprites i use for my characters, the ones I have found are kinda generic and bland. My game has nearly every character, npc and otherwise, as dragons, so the lack of availability hots pretty hard. I've searched through as many resource sites I could find, and not found anything that suits my needs, so I was hoping either: -Someone could supply me with character generator resources that create dragon sprites, such as a body template. <-- (Preferable) or -Someone could edit existing dragon sprites so they resemble sprites similar to teh Actor RTP sprites included. My pixel art skills are, for lack of a better word, terrible, and I would appreciate a nod in the right direction.

So, before you guys smite me and hang me for how late this is, I gotta ask, "Is there such thing as a time frame?" Wait, who's talking? Who's being asked, what is going on?! Hey folks! Rez here with a continuation of character developing. This time, we'll be talking about dialogue, and using the character's personality within their words. For the sake of this example, I'll be using my gambler, Lek, and a demon named Anicor. I'll list the main aspects of their personality below. Lek's Personality: Optimistic, Level-headed, Out going. Anicor's Personality: Shy, Quirky, Energetic. When a character talks, they need to have a target person/thing they're talking to. You can't leave this open unless there's a continuation of the dialogue between two characters. For example. "Hi, bob," Jack said. "Hello," Bob responded. "How's your day?" "Good." With the example above, the first two lines show who's talking. Leaving either of those open allow for utter confusion to set in. It could be thought that Jack continued without a response, or that somebody outside of his target was responding. Also, something else that wasn't in those lines was emotion. You must convey the character's feelings, whether it is based off of their current mood, feeling of the topic, or even their personality taking over. If you don't, your game, story, or other projects will be really dull, and most will look for a new game to play. Now, there is one exception, and I've seen few pull this off. You can have a monotone-talking person be the center of a joke or some plots, but don't have them be the main focus of your game. Voices in voice acting know this rule all too well, if present, and I'm sure you've heard/read monotone language before. Reading your sentence out loud to yourself is a good way to listen for emotion, and that's where syntax--structure of the sentence and overall flow, basically--takes place. Following this, one last thing I wish to point out here is word choice. Words also help reflect emotion and give a three dimensional aspect to characters. For example: "Hey, man. I just wanted to let you know how stoked I am for the game! I hope you remember how vivid your mom's determination was about you taking me. I'll be there around eight." Vivid is a hard word to use, but if pulled off correctly, it gives a great amount of emotion, in addition to giving a better structure to your sentence/line. Determination is an emotion in its own right. Stoked is another example of emotion that takes the place of the word excited. Adding variety keeps people interested in what they're reading. Now, the moment you folks might have already wanted me to get to... Interactions. "Lek, w-what's a flower?" Anicor hid herself behind Lek as she pointed at the rather strange flower in a pot. "I didn't expect you to shiver at the sight of a fragile being. It's a plant, like grass. For the most part, they're harmless, but there are a few exceptions. Some of Scalvose's flowers, like the Phenostar and the Quiriblit, are quite harmful to some species of life," Lek moved away from Anicor, leaving her in "sight" of the flower. "Go on, touch it. It's a perfectly harmless dandelion." "What if I'm a-allergic?" she slowly stepped forward, flinching as she quickly jabbed her finger into the flower's center. She withdrew it to find her finger covered in a yellow powder, which caused her to well up in fear and start hyperventilating. "Calm down! It's just pollen!" Lek grabbed her, hugging her tightly to a chair for her to sit on. With Lek's help, she slowly regained a calm demeanor. "What is this p-p-powdery stuff?" she sniffed at it, sneezing after a couple seconds passed. "As I said, it's pollen. It's how flowers reproduce," Lek smiled, his eyes shining with enjoyment. With the example above, you can tell how Anicor is by nature, and how Lek responds to her actions and words. Anicor's nervous personality shines throughout the whole segment, and while Lek's mental opinions aren't stated, you can pick up a bit of it from his words and actions. You can also see how he feels about her, to an extent. This pretty much sums up this section of the tutorial. Part three will be focusing on relationships and external/internal factors on life, which will help shape the character into (possibly) somebody you can be yourself. (You'll understand what I mean... Don't worry!)

Twynog Machinov Race: Skeldian, Lunarian Age: 2300+ Affiliation: Four Harbingers of Apocalypse (Formerly) Grand Executioner of Requiem (Currently) Guardian of Sasayakijinja (Currently) Threat Level: High Twynog is the legendary undead (reanimated) Skeldian warrior and a signature character of Soulborne. He is a reliable and creative soldier of the Netherworld who hailed from the Lunar City on the Moon, had once been the only son of the Watatsuki Royal Family. He now walks the world of Sargosso, bound to the Harbingers’ Mask, a sentient shield with a maniacal personality, as Sargosso’s first War God. Twynog resides in Sasayakijinja, living with Gwendolyn Komatsuzaki, the Netherworld’s ghostly princess, and her guardian Honoka Minami. His post is at the southwest of the ghost shrine at a nearby ocean expanse called Nanban Kaigan. Twynog has a rather ghastly appearance that accents his Lunarian background. He wears a red bandana around his head that has several runes written on it with what looks like charcoal, a dark purple dress with a strap on the right over a white short-sleeved blouse, steel and leather gauntlets, several femto-fiber ropes wrapped around his body, buckled boots on both his feet and a large belt around his waist. Twynog wields a great tricksword (a Lunarian broadsword that combines with its sheath to create a greatsword) and his Mask, which is a large, seemingly-living, magical shield with the face of a skull adorned on the front, with glowing purple runes etched on the sides of it. His eyes are empty sockets with red glowing pupils. Twynog is an extremely skilled swordsman, seeming to have retained his finesse with a sword, shield, and greatsword alone from his past life. While he does wield weaponry, he also possesses strange magic abilities, such as teleportation and manipulation of ghostly skulls and arms. Twynog can also manipulate the subconscious of foes, a power that can quickly turn the tide of battle in his favor. This allows him to manipulate the hidden aspects of the mind of his foes in various ways, such as having them relive traumatic moments and force vivid illusions and hallucinations unto them. Despite his brash attitude and informal demeanor, Twynog reveals that the most important things to him are not any sort of fame, glory, or power, but actually upholding his beliefs and protecting those he holds most dearest. He has sworn upon his life to destroy the Abyssals and Lunarians, not giving up on his mission for even a second. He is incredibly loyal to the Grim Reaper Samael, the Royal Advisor Junko, and is incredibly vengeful towards those who have done him wrong or betray him. One the other hand, Twynog’s Mask is a complete polar opposite, since it contains his uncontrollable hatred and insanity. The Mask shares Twynog’s voice as it cackles with glee in the midst of battle, enjoying any form of combat Twynog is engaged in to a disturbing extent. It doesn't speak and has a very one-track mind, always hungry for war and general chaos to unfold as it relishes in the agony of others. The Mask has the ability to stop any incoming force completely, regardless of speed in which said force had traveled.

Dia Waldgrave Age: 18 Race: Human Occupation: Digital Artist (Formerly) Game Developer (Formerly) Grey Hat Hacker (Currently) Affiliation: HER Threat Level: High Dia Waldgrave is a young grey hat hacker. She joins the terrorist group HER to take down the tyrannical dictatorship of the Daedelus Order Syndicates. She is a kind girl who watches over her father and their shop and cares deeply for others, including her little sisters, Nia and Yoshino, and her best friend Xander Orion. However, Dia has a violent temper and curses like a temperamental and uncultured schoolgirl when upset or angered. Which unfortunately, for certain people, is all the time. But normally she appears quiet and reserved, with a keen interest in reading, writing, drawing, and hacking. A quiet and introverted girl, Dia may seem to be lifeless and apathetic in comparison towards those she doesn’t know, but is very friendly and cheerful around friends. She enjoys simple hobbies, such as reading and writing, and rather complex hobbies, such as developing video games, something she is overly passionate about and dreams of one day mastering as a renowned triple-A developer. However, she excels most in hacking. She has done various minor cyber attacks that aren’t too harmful to others, such as rewriting Security Droids’ coding so that they start using profane language towards citizens. While she cares deeply for her little sisters, they anger her (perhaps not as much as others do) and most of her stress comes from not knowing how to act around them. As well as showing her softer side to others. Underneath her calm exterior is an angry, raged filled girl ready to yell at or murder the first person who pisses her off. This is intentionally triggered by some people, such as Sogekihei, whom Dia is incredibly jealous of due to his impeccable skill in sharpshooting and writing, Mei, who brags how big her breasts are compared to Dia’s, and just about anyone who mentions her flaws, intentional or unintentional. Dia is a pale skinned girl with measurements consisting of 82B, 60W, 83H, and weight of 36 kg(~79 lbs). She has waist-long vermillion colored hair and dull blue eyes. Sometimes Dia would wear a black beanie with her favorite game’s logo on it. Dia is usually seen wearing an opened black jacket with red accents and dark grey lining over a white t-shirt that reads “Veni, Vedi, Veciâ€, black jeans with steel pads on the knees and skating shoes she had modified with compression boosters. Dia’s weapon of choice is her wrist swords that she had crafted herself. The weapon takes the form of two retractable, serrated blades between six inches in length and two inches wide that extend over the back of the hand from a leather gauntlet worn on Dia's right wrist. She may choose to upgrade her wrist swords to great extents, ranging from being electrically charged with Tesla Nodes to being coated and cooled in a poisonous substance.

Hey again folks! This character is an unnamed NPC from my game, belonging to the Stallig Race, a race of warriors, hunters, and gatherers that roam the world of Aultirre with their clans. Clans of Stallig are usually formed by several related families, with a governing council led by the heads of each family. In culture, they value integrity, loyalty, and defending the clan from all threats. Stallig are strangely welcoming of other human races, so long as they display respect and consideration. In appearance, the Stallig are humanoid with skin notably tougher than the humans of Earth. They have coarse hair and plates of green or black chitin grow over areas of their skin to serve as natural protection and insulation. Upon their heads grow long and majestic sets of horns, usually numbering two or four. Let me know what you guys think! <3

Hello folks! This here is a specially drawn concept work for the main character of my game, Treilin. She belongs to an obscure race of humanoids known as Tidelings, who reside in the depths of the great Mariphic Ocean, tucked away from the surface world. In the story, she and her brothers are tasked to find a cure for the disease that plagues the last of their dying race, and the beginning of their journey brings them onto dry land where they face many unknown and frightening dangers. This piece is meant to represent her curiosity and lack of knowledge regarding the mysterious world above.
