  3. Hi, this is the storyboard animation intro I created in Adobe After Effects for a project called Soulwake. These are the ideas and vision for the storyline I want to develop. It is a Action Rpg that plays in the top down perspective with a strong emphasis on nightmarish medieval horror and hi tech alien machinery. Hope you like it and please comment

  6. okok, I bet you all we'rent expecting me to post this were you? But alas, here we are. I've noticed a lot of month-long contests happening around (not these forums) so I was wondering what would happen if we were to do one like IIAW, but in a month? The rules and things would be the same, just with a month instead of a week to spice things up. Since this is an interest check and isn't fully planned yet, there is no estimated date, probably around the time IIAW6 should be starting though. (month or two maybe) So that's that, i'd be more than happy to answer any and all questions you have, Thanks! ^u^
  7. Indie in a Week 4!

"Yay, Jackus has no school anymore" Special Edition! I need to be better at making logos. ~Eien Nanashi Hello again! Do you remember the other three contests? If you do, here it is, the fourth installment in this awesome contest series! (We try to host it bi-monthly. Try to.) News: 1st Place - JacobM (49/80) 2nd/3rd Place - Nirwanda | Shiggy (48/80) -TIE!! 4th Place - Rikifive (47/80) 5th place - NPC (44/80) 6th place - magic2345 (39/80) 7th place - Yuugami (26/80) 8th place - RavenBlueIndigo (22/80) 9th place - Akashosu Naoto (18/80) 10th place - CynaMarqi (17/80) 11th place - Eien Nanashi (10/80) 12th place - Kirimash (9/80) --Disqualified-- Takeo212 - Game had no method of loading, and still crased when you made one. (??/??) This contest is simple. (Or so we thought) Once it starts, you have to make a game, but you have to do it in 1 week. You also have to do it by your own! No teams allowed. You can use any game-making program, but people will use RPG Maker anyway. In that case, you can use any RM. Of course, we're not asking you to making a full-length game, just a game of any length! Do what you can manage in 1 week. Once the game-making period is over and the games have been submitted, it will be scored by the judges. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners depending on how high their score is! The winners will get prizes from the prize pool (order and amount depends on current prize pool content). For more details, read below! If you would like to participate, just make a post in this topic that you want to join! (You can also be a judge if you would like!) [/anchor]Rules: You must submit your game before the contest ends. (see below) You can only start making your game after the contest starts. (see below) Make sure that you create a new project AFTER it has been announced. You cannot use a project file that's been made before the date. You cannot change the link to your game in your submission post once the game-making period is over. Doing so will get you disqualified. Games with any issue upon start-up (missing files, broken intro scene), or have game-breaking bugs early on that prevent progress will be disqualified. If said game-breaking bugs are found further into the game (close to the end/final phase), you will receive a fixed penalty of 10 points. Other kinds of bugs which do not prevent progress will still incur penalty, depending on the severity of the bug. You cannot have other people working on your game. Playtesting is allowed, but playtesting only. You can use resources made by others/public resources. But you cannot start making resources in advance for the game that you will make for this contest. You cannot use ripped resources or resources from other games in your project without permission of the copyright owner, if you are found to have used a ripped resource, you will be disqualified. Dates: Contest Information made public: Whenever this is posted. (17th May - 6:30pm GMT) Contest start and signups close: 24th May - 6pm GMT Contest end and judging starts: 31st May - 6pm GMT Judging finishes: Around 3 weeks after then game making ends. Depends if the judges submit scores early or not. Results announcement: A few days after judging finishes, or earlier. Indie in a Week 5: Sometime around end of July/start of August. Maybe. Prize Pool: All prizes have been taken. Please join us next time for more! [anchor=Participants]Participants: If you would like to sign up, please post and mention in it that you would like to join/participate in the contest! The same goes for those who want to be a judge for the games, please mention in the post that you would like to be a judge! Note: You can be both a judge and a contestant at the same time, but be aware that you will be unable to judge your own game (obviously) if you do so. The other judges will. Contestants (13/17 Submitted - NEW HIGH SCORE): Yuugami - Submitted! Eien Nanashi - Submitted! LordSquirrel - Failed to Submit in time. Aletheos - Failed to Submit in time. Nirwanda - Submitted! Takeo212 - Disqualified! - No launcher and even if you make one the game crashes. Shiggy - Submitted! magic2345 - Submitted! Deathtroth - Quit RavenBlueIndigo -Submitted! Rikifive - Submitted!! NPC - Submitted! JacobM - Submitted! Akashosu Naoto - Submitted! Kirimash - Submitted! CynaMarqi - Submitted! SpuddyFerret - Quit Judges (8): @Retnuh @Tarq @Sky Usanin @Kloe Note: If you change your forum display name during the contest, you will still be listed as your original name that you had when you signed up in the contest. Scoring: FAQ/Misc. Details: Tips: - Don't spend days thinking up of the idea. You can start with a simple one and go from there. Just start, and you might even get ideas more easily! - Start small. Don't plan too much features. We're not expecting a full length game. In fact, we're expecting very short games. Games that can be made in a week. - Having more content in your game is important, so focus on that. Again, don't spend too much time thinking what's the "absolute best" (or something like that) you can fit in before you even do it/anything. - If you're running out of time, don't be afraid to cut it short and wrap it up quickly! A game that feels complete is better than a game that feels like an unfinished demo. - "Most importantly... don't procrastinate!" ~ Eien - And of course, have fun! It's the most important thing. Happy game making! If you have any questions, ask it here in the topic. I could have missed something (as usual). What happens now? IIAW5 Hype. Special Thanks:
  8. Indie in a Week 3!

Credit to Eien Nanashi for the logo. The Game-Making Period has ended! Entries are closed! The contest's theme is "Silence". It is up to you on how to interpret, and implement the theme into your game! Good luck, and most importantly, have fun! Happy game making! Lists: --- Hello there! Do you remember the other two contests? If you do, then I've got great news, it's back again! If you've never heard of this, then here's a brilliant new contest for you to enter. The rules are quite simple on the surface. Make a game. Simple enough? Okay now try it in a week. That's what this contest is all about. I would spoiler all the categories but you must read everything or, something like that. Let's get started! Q: So Jackus, who's taking part? Glad you asked! Here is the list of people who have entered so far along with some info about their entry. (Like if they've dropped out or finished) Use this as a kind of contestant tracker. Clicking a name will take you to their profile for now. Later it will take you to their project post. [see LISTS at top of post] Q: And who's going to be judging these? Good question, you could if you wanted to! That's right, the contest is judged by volunteers. (And me!) Anyone can volunteer to contribute towards the judging. Even if you're a contestant! Be aware you can't judge your own game though. That would be unfair. The overall score is an average of all the judges. You can provide reasons, although they're not required. Also I might ask you to justify your scoring so be prepared for that. Especially if you are also a contestant, I'll be keeping a closer eye on you. [see LISTS at top of post] Q: So, how are we being judged? What do judges need to look out for? Well, since I lack any creativity in this section, I'm sorry to say I kind of stole the guidelines from the IGMC. But they work so well, so I guess they stay. Here they are: You got all that? :3 Basically, you will be scored (by the judges) in three main categories. Presentation, Gameplay, and Engagement. But actually, it's four categories. You will also be scored in Theme (or, The Twist). The scoring will be in a scale of 0 ~ 20 for each category, meaning you can have a maximum of 80 points. The Theme is, well, the theme of your game. It will be announced when the game-making period starts (see below for Dates). It will be completely up to your interpretation. Making a game completely unrelated to the theme will give you no points in the Theme category. Taking the theme literally (basically, in a boring/predictable way) won't give you much points, either. A clever use of the theme will give you more Theme points. Still, don't let the Theme stop you from making a game if you think you can't make up a clever interpretation. That's just 20 of the 80 points you might get a score on. Q: Okay that's all well and good, but what if a game has a major glitch or bug? Will we be disqualified for a single mistake? Since it's in a week, I'll be kind of lenient on minor typos, and I ask that the judges do the same. However there are a few rules. Repeated minor issues such as typos or wrong tiles will result in a few points taken away. Try not to be too harsh with this, judges. Major issues which affect gameplay will also decrease from the total score. Judges, try to use your judgement with this. A game breaking problem which prevents continuing will hold a fixed penalty of 10 points, with additional points maybe being lost in categories if content is missed. Any issue upon loading the game(Such as missing files or broken intro scenes) will mean you are disqualified! Please remember to playtest your game at least once all the way through before submitting it. Q: And what about length? What's stopping someone from holding up judging with a 60 hour grinding masterpiece? And when does a judge stop judging? About length, the game can be realistically any length. However don't expect anything over an hour to be judged. A judge can stop when either they reach the end, are stopped by a bug or reach 1 hour. They don't have to stop over an hour, but after that point they can quit anytime without a reason. If you believe a game is frustrating or unplayable you can also stop, but make sure to tell me your reason if you stop early. Just don't stop because it's a battle system you don't enjoy or anything like that. Q: So I notice this is INDIE in a Week 3, does that mean you're not allowed teamwork? What about other people playtesting?? Ah, this old topic, this one got much debate before. Basically, anyone actually working on the game (Creating maps, events and enemies etc...) is not allowed except for you and you alone. This is a one man army challenge, a team would throw it all off balance. You can brainstorm with other people, and bounce idea off them, as long as the one doing everything is you. As for others playtesting, sure. They can even give you bug reports and stuff too, as long as they don't actually fix the bugs in your project and send it back. You must edit everything. Q: So I've gotta do all of this, in a single week? I'll never make it, I'll end up procrastinating or getting caught up in real life situations Ah, about that. I'm not looking for the next Final Fantasy, I don't expect a fully fledged RPG in a week, heck I don't even expect that in a month. But what I do want is your best shot. If you're short for time you could always cut it short. The games I like best in past Indie in a Week contests were short, sweet and concise. For a (terrible) example, check out Glory Quest which I made in a single hour! And as for real life, I understand that sometimes (Most of the time) these situations are unavoidable. My only advise is this, be prepared. You should have something ready, don't wait until the last minute to submit. Try to get it in at the very least a few hours beforehand. You don't' need to squeeze out every second of game development, some of the best games for previous IIAW contests were submitted days before the deadline. Q: And resources? Can I use resources made by others? Can I make my own before the contest starts? You can use any public resources, and even commissions (Although I don't recommend it) as long as you have the author/artists permission to use it in a contest. Despite the lack of cash prizes, some consider a contest like this to be commercial use, so tread carefully. As for your resources, anything made before the contest is fair game, you can use any of it since you obviously have your own permission. However, any resources created for the game cannot be made before the contest starts (March 1st) however, anything made in this time that wasn't for the project can be used. It's a bit weird, but use your best judgement. Or go full RTP. Q: Okay, enough of this. Let's get down to serious talk. What do I get out of this? What do I win? I agree, this is the most important part All prizes are donated Steam keys, so you will need Steam to redeem them. Any RPG Maker DLC will need the appropriate RPG Maker engine activated on Steam. I haven't yet decided how to distribute these prizes, and I welcome more! If you have any spare steam keys (Or any other kind of gift) then feel free to PM me with details Current Prize Pool: Another Perspective Beyond Reality Death Ray Manta Detective Case and Clown Bot in: Murder in The Hotel Lisbon Savant - Ascent Spoiler Alert Collectors Edition Stealth Bastard Deluxe Q: Alright! Now how exactly do I compete? Glad you asked! All you need to do is, between 23rd February and 1st March (6pm GMT), make a post in this topic asking if you want to enter. You can also PM me, but I don't see why since your name will be on the list here anyway so you won't exactly be anonymous. Q: Ah, what about the dates? The dates? Dates: Contest Information made public: 23rd February - 6pm GMT Contest start and signups close: 1st March - 6pm GMT Contest end and judging starts: 8th March - 6pm GMT Judging finishes: Anytime before the end of March. Results announcement: A few days after judging finishes. Indie in a Week 4 starts: Sometime in April/May. Maybe June. Q: Wow. Any last words? Not really. I think we've covered everything, thanks for reading all of this... me talking to myself! I hope it.. informed you..? Or something. Bleh, I'm tired. Here's a summary of the rules, just for convenience. Rules: Anyways, any questions, stick 'em in the topic, I could have missed something (As usual) Happy game making! (Thanks to Eien Nanashi for cleaning up some typos, making things stand out in a cool way and making the summary) Bonus section! These questions weren't me talking to myself, but actual questions posted in this topic.

  11. Support us on Indiegogo! Huge thanks to those will do that! Here is the link: INDIEGOGO: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/dark-phoenix/x/9438841 Dark Phoenix is a classic 2D Indie RPG game, created with RPG Maker VX ACE. After two years of android app development, we moved to PC/MAC dev, and since we are just two friends with small programming knowledge, we bought RPG Maker. First, when we started our project, we were excited to beign part of the Indie game community, but we had no ideas for the game. We love indie games original stories, musics and ambiences, we think that the indie community is much more a community of artists and not only developers. Since we are musicians too (A pianist and a Guitarist), and we are composers (Soundtracks for other games or short-films) we really wanted to gave our game an original "sound". Then, while we were composing one of our soundtrack, we had the idea... This idea is now Dark Phoenix. Everything you believe about Gods... Children fables, religions and legends... Forget them... Forget them all... Hell... Heaven... All these bullshit... Are not real... What is waiting for us after death? Maybe the right question is who is waiting... The story take life in a fantasy world, Erendor, when diseases, natural catlaclysm and wars take place every day. Not really the best place to live for Drais: the main character. With his passion for the swort art, he live with his simple but lovable family, and use his time to train his sword skill with the father. But that life was freaked out when his father, with no apparent reason, is chaught by the Royal Guards of the King: Heitred, and then executed. After a little time, Drais and Kristal: the younger sister, lose their home and mother in a blaze. Then, they fall in a trap while roaming Erendor and become prisoners of three mercenaries. Their leader, after two days of maltreatments, try to abuse the sister. With an uncontrollable rage, Drais steal one of the mercs sword and run into the leader to kill him, but he is easly stopped by him. The merc then joke on the little boy, forcing him to kill Kristal, forcing his little hand holding the sword. Drais then lose his mind, and, totally consumed by rage, kill the leader of the mercs. The others then run away in fear. Drais swear that from now and for all the rest of his life, he will just search for his revenge. In the game, you'll have to guide Drais to help him consuming his revenge, but while on the journey, you'll find strange mysteries about King Heitred and discover the reality after death. You will find out that there is no Heaven or Hell, but another world: Heriden, dominated by 5 dark figures, the 5 Kyran. One of them will help Drais, giving to the young boy part of his power, but our hero will soon have to face a reality bigger then him. DRAIS HELLGEN Name: Drais Hellgen Bio: Main Character. After beign victim of many adversities, he is roaming Erendor to find his revenge. After one Kyran gave him his power, he will turn into a ruthless warrior, and he will be soon called "Dark Phoenix". AROX HELLGEN Name: Arox Hellgen Bio: Drais Father, he will donate a strange medalion to his own son right before being captured by the Royal Guards. During the game, strange reality about him will be revealed. DENA HELLGEN Name: Dena Hellgen Bio: Drais Mother, amorous and gentle. She will die in a blaze that seems accidentally. KRISTAL HELLGEN Name: Kristal Hellgen Bio: Drais younger sister, an innocent and mousy girl. After being captured with his brother by the mercs, she will die. This will turn Drais into a ruthless bloody warrior in search for revenge. HAITRED Name: King Heitred Bio: King of the Reaven Realm, an unmerciful tyran that will order Drais father exeution. During the game, strange reality about him will be revealed. 5 Kyran Name: Kyran Bio: Five strange and dark figures that live in the Heriden World. Dark Phoenix is not only a classic 2D RPG game, there will be some fictions sequences with artworks that will improve your game experience. You can go straight to the end or spend some time exploring all the Erendor world, doing secondary missions, discovering new places and mysteries. The battle system is the typical turn-based system, the difficult will increase as you continue your journey, you will have to elaborate tactics in order to win the hardest battles. The big and deep story will offer a lot of plot twists, no chance to be bored here. 12. Hello~ I am very excited to share with you, my first successful game: Update: HUGE screenshot update with six new screenies! Check them out in the screenshot section! Also, check out the game's introduction video! Edit: Demo link taken down until further notice due to extreme construction undergoing. About the game: I hope you guys enjoy this project~ :3 I can't wait to see what you guys think!
  13. Heya everybody! ^~^ I've been real busy in making my game and experimenting with FL studio but sadly I don't have the proper know how to make music, sure I can play guitar and double bass, I just don't know how to use the software and all that technical stuff sadly but I am working on it! xD hehe anyway, now to the request. So for my Indie Horror game: Twin Souls I am really in need of a title screen BGM because the one I have right now is a rip from Pan's Labyrinth and I kinda don't wanna use that hehe. However, that's the sort of element and feel I want it to have. Something nice and eerie, very mysterious and creepy and just draws the player in, sort of setting the stage for the player's mind. I'm not sure how I should describe it though xD I'm struggling. I just want it to be very eerie and mysterious piano. I want the keys to sound off without it sounding "out of key" or not in sync with the flow of the song. >.< I'm sorry if I am not making sense. If you need further details, PM me or just let me know in the replies, thank you. This will be for a non commercial project. *phew* Hopefully I said everything right xD. Oh! And I'd like for it to sound very solemn and sad and slow and dramatic. Thank you everyone
  14. I welcome you to... brought to you by: Genre: Indie Horror/Puzzle
  15. Hey all, thanks for stopping by. I loved rpg games since i was little, starting out from ff5/6 and chrono trigger to beyond. I've always dreamed of working on a game and sharing the things i loved from previous works of art to the newer generation. Not just another rpg game, but more like a "new experience" kind of thing. I love putting ideas together, making game lore and deciding on what a game should and should not have. But that alone wont make a game, so i'm here seeking friends and 'to be' comrades in a quest to make something that we can be proud of. To make something we can have fun from, and learn from. Thank you, and hopefully we can be friends at least
  16. Hey all! I created another instructional video on how to build an RPG Town Theme. Hopefully this can appeal to beginners who want to get into game audio
  17. I realize that there are some people who have taken an interest in Game Audio, but don't know where to begin. I thought it would be a good idea to create a tutorial that walks a person through basic steps to creating an RPG Battle Theme. If you are interested please click the link below.

Hello all! I am new to this forum, but I thought it would be a great idea to introduce myself! my name is Calbert Warner and I am an inspiring Videogame composer. I come from somewhat of a classical background since I have played the piano for about four years. I am a huge Nobuo Uematsu Fan as he also taught himself how to play the piano at a fairly young age. I also draw inspiration from artists such as Dave Wise, Yuzo Koshiro, Elton John, Koji Kondo, Nujabes, Zircon, Yoko Shimomura, Aivi Tran, and Hans Zimmer. I have always been an avid listener of video game music since playing Super Castlevania 4, Super Mario World and Donkey Kong. Each game had such memorable tunes that had me humming for days on end, but my spark to compose was triggered by Nobuo Uematsu's work (Particularly in FF4 and FF9). He really brought life to the environments of the game and I wanted to bring that same rush of emotion to players as well. If not at all too much trouble please have a listen to some of my tracks and let me know what you guys think Battle Theme Concept 1 https://soundcloud.c...matist/deadlock Battle Theme Concept 2 https://soundcloud.c...ept-fatal-frost Town Concept https://soundcloud.c...n-theme-concept Forest Concept https://soundcloud.c.../phantom-forest Swamp Concept https://soundcloud.c...st/hollow-marsh RPG Title Screen Theme Concept https://soundcloud.c...le-screen-theme Haunted House Concept https://soundcloud.c...vgm-night-shift or pay a visit to my youtube channel to look at my full portfolio http://www.youtube.c...r/CrimsonAzure7 Thanks again!

There are countless mazes for you to explore! Can you explore them all? And can you save Invertuba? Game features: Over 40 mazes filled with challenges and fun! 20. "Paracentric" A short surreal role-playing game touching on themes of censorship and influence. Bearing similarities to the indie games OFF (Mortis Ghost) and Yume Nikki (Kikiyama), Paracentric exposes the player to a world of limitations featuring abstract architecture and a satisfying story. Game Time: 20-30 Mins **Headphones are Recommended** Required: Story / Setting / Purpose: Ragged, tired, and worn out, Zeiss the Locksmith becomes lost on his way home from work. Traveling the endless void, Zeiss soon finds a door next to a talking sign, known as the Icono. He learns that the three senses (Sight, Taste, and Sound) have been outlawed by the King and Queens. With no other way to go, Zeiss enters the first door and enters a world of nightmarish surrealism. Citizens walked blind, their eyes caved in and Zeiss can't help but feel he is being watched. Luckily a greedy merchant, named Vomero, decides to keep Zeiss in tact as he travels across the three senses in hopes of returning home. Character Bios: Zeiss A locksmith who becomes lost in a void on his journey home. Wielding only the tools of his craft, Zeiss hopes to soon return to the comfort of his home. Icono The Icono are a species we have seen since the earliest ages of time. They take the form of help signs and are known for changing location without uprooting. Vomero A greedy merchant who uses the Icono to hide from the King and Queens of each world. He hopes to sell his merchandise to gullible citizens in hopes of striking it rich. Yet, he aims to help Zeiss by selling him specified items for his own reasons. Apathal The Queen of Sight has outlawed vision all across her realm. What was once a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice is now a monstrous creature who aims to rule her domain and stay unseen by her subjects for all eternity. Larima The Queen of Sound has outlawed all sound across her realm, leaving only a bothering deafness. A woman once interested in vocal puzzles has become a screeching siren that calls all of her victims, with a triple eyed gaze, to her Chaos Theater to perform numerous pieces for a deaf crowd. Gulsto The King of Taste has become greedy. Finding happiness in the foods he devours, Gulsto has outlawed Taste, allowing only him to devour everything and anything. When resources run low, citizens begin to disappear.
