Tutorial topic: How to show credits during gameplay. Brief description: Have you ever watched a movie and seen how the credits pop up as the opening action scene plays out? People are talking, fighting, doing all the movie things, but the credits appear and vanish along the way without disturbing the flow of action. It's become such a common thing that movie critics actually criticize films that don't do their opening credits in this way. This method will allow you to have that in your game without scripts or even a lot of special skill! Requirements: Obviously, you will need RPGMaker VX Ace (this should also work with everything but MZ as it only requires that you have access to the built in battle animations tab). Beyond that, you will need a simple photo editing software like Photoshop. I use GIMP because it's free and relatively simple to use. You can technically do this with paint, but if you do, you will need to use another service to make the background transparent. Before I discovered GIMP, I used lunapic as it's free and all online. This is inferior to GIMP in my opinion, but it has the advantage of not requiring the download of a frankly massive program. TL;DR: You need an RPGMaker that has the animation tab (so any except for MZ) and you need a way to edit pictures while keeping them transparent. Step 1; The Credit: To begin, we need to take a random base from the animations folder of the RTP. We're not actually going to change it, but rather, we're going to use it as a template. I used Thunder4 because it's one of the larger bases with room for 25 animation panels. I advise making a copy and pasting it into another folder, then working on the copy so that you don't accidentally overwrite the base picture. Once you have it loaded up in your editor, erase everything so that the only thing left is the transparent background, As shown here: Choose a small corner of the template then, and insert the text you want! Don't worry about it being more than one animation panel. It probably will be larger than one, depending on how much you have to type. For my test case, I used a simple "A Game By Aslanemperor" Save, export, or whatever you need to do. Take any extra steps you may need to make the image transparent. This is standard with GIMP, and I hear that Photoshop makes this pretty easy as well. Once this is done, simply import this into your game using the built in Resource manager in RPGMaker. Step Two; The Animation: This part can get a little time consuming, but is still VERY simple. My example took up two panels worth of room on the template (out of a max of 25). As such, I took those two panels, and set them side by side over where I wanted them to go. The animation system makes this very easy as everything is designed to lock neatly into place, so as long as you pay attention, it will be a simple matter to make everything look good. Now we figure how long you want your credit to show itself, and where you want it on the screen. For this example, I placed mine directly in the center. When you're putting together your frames, keep timing in mind. 1 second is equal to roughly 30 animation frames. Because of this, I set up the fade in to last through the first 26 frames, then had it hold solid for another 45, followed by a more rapid 15 frame fade out. I did this by right clicking each individual panel and adjusting the "Opacity" number. Because I wanted this to be close to a full second of fade in, I added 10 points to the value on every frame, making it go fully Opaque at frame 26, with a value of 255. This is why it can be a bit time consuming. Once you know what you're doing, however, it doesn't take long to put these together. It took me just over 5 minutes to put everything for this animation together. You'll notice that there's a box for the animation beyond just the scope of the target. That box represents your screen. Depending on where you want this to show up on the screen, that's where you'll place your animation box. For instance, if you align it with the top left of that box, it will show up on the top left corner of the screen. Step Three; Implementation: So, you've made your "Credits" animation, and you're ready to place it. The way I did it, was to have an event along the path the player has to follow, and when they walk over that area, it triggers the credit animation. I set the animation to be centered on the player. This way, it keeps on showing in the area I want as he walks: Don't forget when making your event that you want to set it to end after the player has walked past it. Also, DO NOT click for it to wait if you want your character to continue doing things while this shows. Conclusion: So, I found this entire process to be extremely easy, and can be done with things that anyone has access to (you can even manage this with just paint and a web browser). It's a unique way to put your credits into your game without a clunky opening video (which usually requires some sort of video editing software). If you have any questions, or you know an easier way to pull this off, I'm happy to hear it. I hope this helps someone!

H-hello ^_^;; I'm new, and I love learning new things! I am shy, and sometimes a little scatterbrained, but I'm really friendly and looking to delve into this compendium of resourcefulness! If I am able to help in anyway, I'd love to! Um, thanks for your time!

G'day all! I'm having trouble starting my game after an intro... I would like the intro to have a certain character explain the story then afterwards have the game start in a different place with my main character. I have the intro working without a starting point, but when I set my starting point on the intro it just lets me move my main character (hides the character I want talking) and doesn't play the intro. But if I put my starting point on the map I want to start on, it just starts the game there and ignores the intro. I've attached a picture of my event settings below.

yes hello, I am Sludgemouth and I had to submit a password request prior to my first login here... because I'm a moron. Anyway I've played around with RM2K, and XP so I've seen some of this material before (granted, that was the better part of two decades ago), I'm currently using VX ACE (because I'm cheap) and I'm about to move to snake island (AKA: guam). Yeah, that's it... this is the first time I've even been aware that a(an?) rpgmaker community exists so expect me to ask all kinds of really stupid questions, sorry in advance. Love, Sludgey

This whole post you should read lightheartedly, I will probably poke fun and such but nothing I'm saying in this post is meant to offend people, even though it's funny. Now that you know how good I am at dueling on MC, let's get to business. This thread is all about you guys introducing yourselves to me. Wait. That doesn't seem right. Oh right, this is me introducing myself to you. That seems more likely, but less fun so how about you all introduce yourselves to me, since you're here already. Deal? Deal. Note: Everything in the spoiler is for forum staff and helpful peoples, so if you're neither of them I wouldn't waste my time clicking it unless you're really bored. So now that I've kept the forum mods busy reading all that crap how about we all talk about how bad they are? No? Okay. I don't know any of them nor any of you so lmk. Oh are they reading this too? So now that I've kept the forum mods busy reading all that crap how about we all talk about how bad they are? Okay, we're safe now. Only non-staff will be smart enough to highlight that to read it, I hope. So, my name is Jusblazm and apparently I'm doing the rest of this in italics because it didn't feel like turning off and I already threw my mouse to the other side of the desk because I'm typing and don't need it anymore. I'd like to say I've been working on this for the past 37 minutes and to this point is what I've successfully been able to do. I grew up just playing rpg games and any other kind of game I could get my grimy little fingers on. As I got older, I'm only 21, I stopped really, "playing" the games and more of socializing on them. I began running clubs, clans, groups, parties, guilds, etc on all the games I use to play. It was always me and one of my best friends running these groups. We had very successful groups on tons of games a couple to name would be; RuneScape, World of Warcraft, Minecraft, Path of Exile, Diablo 2 & 3, with Trove being our most recent. Diablo 3 and Trove are the only ones we still keep eyes on. That's another story though, kinda. On top of all this I've always been interested in coding and video game designing but I never really did it. I began writing java for rsps, never released anything so no harm with jagex tos just harmless learning from a game that had already been created. That was my first real experience with any code and boy did I love it. So I began doing html. I liked the idea of building my own website and being able to edit it however I wanted and being able to say I did this on my own and no one else really gets any credit for it. So I have java, html, css, and php under my belt. The I figured I should get back into designing a game. Happened that RPG Maker VX Ace was on sale that weekend and I bought it. I've dumped 51 hours into it so far and still going strong. I dropped into a huge game right of the bat instead of building something small and sensible first so, I have not much to show for those 51 hours. Of course 5-9 of those hours was messing with ruby, a language I've never encountered and still not really completely sure what I'm doing with it help me. Without RPG Maker the chances of me ever messing with ruby would probably be very slim. Mk, so what do we actually know about me so far? Username is Jusblazm. I'm 21. I'm a video game nerd. I was big in creating clans and making a friendly environment for people. I taught myself a couple language. Now I'm building a big project game with no experience. Alright, let's see what else. Idk that's probably enough, anything else you wanna know that I forgot you can just ask and I'm more than happy to probably share the info. Oh, names Ryan, I live in La Center, WA, USA and in Salisbury, MO, USA. Yeah, I live in two different timezones. I work for a company in Salisbury, MO that flies me out there when they need me to. I have a home here and there. It's more typical that I reply to people who call me Jusblazm unless we know each other on another level than just people on the same forum, as I'm sure there are more people named Ryan here and I will always assume you're talking about them for some weird reason. I leave you with a final thought. Jusblazm, out.

Hello everyone! Name's UltimaCJ and nice to meet you. I've ran into these forums a few times when I was first introduced into RPG Maker VX Ace a couple years ago but never made an account (not sure why). I'm not a HUGE forum person (maybe that IS why), and if I ever used forums (which wasn't often) pertaining to RM; I started with their official forums - pretty cool crowd, some nice, some strict, some picky with tilesets I was browsing this forum the other idea looking for ideas for my second game project and decided to rip the band aid off and make an account here and so here I am. I'm an avid RPG player and I enjoy them the most and I've played a few RM games before I made my first game. Unlike the regular AAA titles, the RM/Indie universe whether free or not has always made interesting stories and or/game play. It's always refreshing to see a brand new mind at work with possible potential for a great game, whether it's hobby or not I published my first game over at Aveyond almost a year ago and on my website "removed link" "Destiny of a Wizard" and now working on my second project, which is a direct sequel to the first game . I'll post more about that later in the development section as I enjoy reading feedback (good or bad!) on something I created. It's good to meet everyone and sorry for not making an account sooner. Talk to you in future posts

Teivel here, I hail from Australia! I like to say I am a writer, whether it be my own novels, character profiles or just random information in between. I'm not too proficient in many RPG Maker skills, but I do enjoy parallax mapping, and most eventing although I am not too great at the latter. I found RPG Maker randomly while scrolling through stuff on steam one day and it seemed interesting, I have always enjoyed playing all kinds of video games and making one has always been a dream of mine. Now it is a passion. I played through all the final fantasies while i was younger and I really enjoyed the 2D adventure aspect of it, I plan on making a project that rivals the depth of the original games like them. Now, I am currently working on a project with RPG Maker VX Ace, it isn't in the forums because I am keeping it hush hush until I am further in development. If there's anything you want to know about me, my skills or my potential project then don't hesitate to throw me a private message. Ciao ^-^

Hey! Rene Aramis here, codename, Renegadeâ„¢. I even have it trademarked, check it out. ANYWAY. I've been using RPGMakerVX Ace for a few years now, haven't dabbled much in it as I've had no free time, though I'd like to get more into it. I have something I've been working on for a long while now, but I keep getting sidetracked, and have writers block. So, hi! I hope to see you all on the forums! PS. Anyone got a cure for RPG Writer Block?

Greetings fellow RPG makers, I'm ManicElf. Call me Mistletoe or Mist or ManicElf or Hey, Old Lady! OK not the last one... I'm a, let's say, "mature" RPG maker in the Boston area. I love the idea of creating my own games, like the old-school RPGs I used to play when I was a little elflet. I'm excited about the idea of more diverse representation in games, and this being one of the ways to accomplish that. And I love the idea that anyone can make their own game at home. That just rocks my socks. Anywho, nice meeting you, look forward to sharing what I make and seeing what you make.

So! I'll call out for help if youtube tutorials begin to fail me...

Hello I'm Mikey long time RPG nut and fan of RPG makers. I've used most of the ones made by Enterbrain at one point or another. I particularly like writing plot lines and linking them up with other aspects of the game. (Which has led to some long coffee fuelled nights tramping round servers and forums looking for graphics that fit the image I want to convey. Creating my own graphics obviously isn't my strong suit . Hoping to share ideas and interact with the community more in the run up to VX Ace and beyond. I'm a long term lurker and pretty much first time poster. Ermmm think that's about it.
