  2. Hey! I'm working on an old fashioned RPG and since I believe in making everything unique and interesting, I design each house from scratch and try to keep it different and original. The thing is, that's the number one thing that frustrates me and makes me sometimes quit and then come back to making my game at another time. But since I realized there's only so much you can do to really keep it original, I thought about just copying my previous houses and maybe redesigning a bit... since it'll be the same eventually. I'm talking about like 20 cities with at least 7 houses including shops. I was wondering how do other people deal with making a game that has tons of maps and still keep going with it? (I'm not saying I don't enjoy making my game... but you have to admit map designing is frustrating when you try to keep it at a high level)

    Regarding Maps.json

    I opened one of my maps in Notepad+ and its pretty well laid out. Each tile shows up and whats on it....but what I am looking for, my fellow users, is how to make a map, Map A and edit the json so that the X axis is inverted, effectively making a mirror of it. I am wanting (if able) to have a Light Side and Dark Side of the map.... Any thoughts?
  6. Ever had a random encounter, but wanted to make it so that if the party loses, instead of simply going to the game over scene, you could play some custom events? Or maybe you have a number of evented battles, but if the player loses, the game over processing should all be handled the same way? Or perhaps the same way as the random encounters? This plugin allows you to create your very own gameover events! Simply create a map, set up some events, and you're ready to show your own gameover scene!   7. Hello. (Umm, first I must say I don't know does this belong here, so if this is wrong place, please move it to the correct place.) But yeah, I need advices about parallax mapping. I know how to do it and how to use scripts that uses different layers like ground, light, parallax etc. And I consider myself as "average" gimp user, so creating own stuff itself is not a problem. SO, The problems is when my maps grows larger than my screen, and I can't take 1:1 screenshots in editor. Because I use that editor picture as a base, where I add new layers, like trees, darker sand, grass or whatever and fine tune it a little bit. It's easy to create layers to 1:1 scale. But it doesn't work if I can't take the screenshot from 1:1 scale. (I was thinking actually some kind of program, which could take wider 1:1 screenshot than screen, but I'm little sceptic if programs like that even exist ) And I know how to do exactly right size layers (32 x map's width and height), but there's no way I'm gonna do parallax mapping for "blinded", because I don't have the editor picture, it's just too impractical. I'm not sure if anyone can understand my confusing explanation, but any hints, tips, advices or anything, for creating parallax for big maps are welcome.

    Hi Everybody! So, after a long time of testing, I managed to finish this 3 maps: A World Map, and a Base and Peak of a Mountain. So, I would like some feedback about how it looks, since are my first "finished" maps and like to improve the next ones I make. Ok, first, the World Map: This is the first map I finished. It uses LemonLures's Realistic Tileset, which I finished Editing the missing areas. I'll attach the edited tileset, in case someone want to use it. Here full Size: And here a few screenshots: Still think that something is Missing on the continents, but didn't want to overcharge it. This is the Second Map I've finished: A Mountain Peak. I'm happy with the results. Although maybe I add some effects, like fog or something like that. I've used tileset created by Celianna. And here a few screenshots: And here's the last map I've finished so far: the Mountain base. I don't like very much the squares bases, so I've edited the floor to make it look like a more natural base. But I Really like the finish result. And here a few screenshots: I like some feedback, If something must be changed o improved, or if it are just fine xD I'll try to update this thread with next maps I make. Abyss: Later in the game the abyss will be filled with water: This is a climbing area: The path avaible to cross by the player, are in the lighted rock. I've tried to make it look like it's the same wall. So I use the shadows to make all combined. I'll Add screenshots In game Later xD Edit 4: New Maps!   12. Hello everyone. I was taking a moment of free time tonight to work on a map that I'm really enjoying, but I was starting to wonder, how big is too big when it comes to maps? I have a multi-map dungeon with the main room itself at about 140x60, not including two separate rooms leading into it. I want it to seem big, but I also don't want it so big that it will wear on the players, even with putting in a healing point. I know it's one of those things that is hard to quantify specifics without being told details, so rather I'm just curious about what would be an ideal maximum? Thank you. =)

Is it the light effect?, does my maps need more object or is the background alright!? i need to know more about mapping im still new and i need your help guys ps: no parallax please ^.^ Also sorry for my bad english i am learning on my own.

    Understanding Tile Regions

    In this article we go over the "Region" property in your tiles. It explains what a region is, how you can use them, what RPG Maker uses them for by default, how you can manipulate it for your own purposes, and finally a sample list of what other scripters have been using regions for. What is a Region It's just a number. Really. Take a look at the following diagram: Working with Regions The map editor allows you to edit tile regions. To access the region editor, press F7, or press the colourful icon in the toolbar. You will see 64 different regions available to colour your map with (63 numbered regions, and the Zero-Region which is not numbered). By default, any tile that does not have a region, is the Zero-Region, with a region ID of 0. To set a region, simply pick a region from the palette and spread it over your tiles. Regions and Encounters A built-in use case for regions is in the map encounter system, which you can access from map properties. From here, you can choose which regions an encounter will appear in. For example, maybe certain troops only appear in water, or only appear in grasslands. Some troops may be encountered more frequently in certain regions, and less frequently in other regions.   17. Evening, everybody! I worked super hard on these maps, along with in-game previews, since I used Victor's (awesome) fog/overlay script. (: Just to see what you guys think about how it fits! Any kind of critique on my maps are welcome...I'd love critique and advice! How can I improve on anything without it? I'll also show off my first attempt at parallax mapping (Not going to use any in the game, I just want to show it to you guys.)     My first attempt

    Hi everyone I've been working on my first game ever, I'm completly new to this but really liking this community & working with RPG maker. My game is going to star a recently our of the millitary marine that needs to help save this town from a parasitic organism that took over it's host and then over the Hospital and started wreclking havok in town with it's zombie like minions & monsters. The marine will have to get some help from the resistance at their base to fight their way up the hospital to take out the parasite. It will be a small game as it's my first and want to not go in over my head. Maybe it can expand in the future, who knows. Heres some screenshots of my starting area, home, town, church, resistance base, and the hospital which is my first attempt at orignal mapping. Here is also a small video showing some "gameplay" most of the maps have some sound but the darn vid capture program didn't grab it! Looking forward to the critques, and getting slowly better
  19. Hopefully the link works! So I have these pictures which I am happy with the first 3 overall. The 4th image is supposed to be an oasis town, and it feels real lacking to me. I have yet to put people in the towns yet and some doors which aren't there are evented doors so they don't display on screenshots. The last 4 images are pretty bad and I'm not sure if they can recover without re-doing them. What are your opinions the maps? How can I improve/fix them or am I better off re-doing some of them? Hopefully I am allowed to post something like this here, but I also have a request for someone good at mapping to re-do the last 4 dungeons Basically one is an oasis/mountain dungeon and the other 3 are 1 big dungeon which is in a mining cave with lots of foliage (early maps, didn't do good at all at this.   20. Hello RMVXA community. I have been so busy lately that I have not been able to contribute much as of late. Now that some of my work has died down, I have returned to some maps that I was working on before my break and hoping to get some feed back. These are my first attempts at parallax mapping. I am still trying to figure out a lot of things about shadows and lighting layers and such... so any feedback would be welcome. Without further ado: Town Square Inn/Restaurant (I was trying something new by showing exterior details instead of just a black background... it caused some scaling inaccuracies... thoughts?) Market Place Fishing Pond (this one is actually broken up into 6 different maps in game) Farmer's Mill Forrest Grounds (I realized after making it that it is HUGE...   21. So far the only areas mapped out are the two floors of the main character's house. Tiles used are a combination of RTP, RTP-edits and "Futuristic Tiles" DLC(from the Humble Bundle and edited by me). Sprites used are a combination of RTP, RTP-edits, "Futuristic Tiles" DLC(from the Humble Bundle and edited by me), Allusion's(edited by me), and Cait's(both original and edited by me). Iconset used is from the "IMFT-Scifi-Resources" that I got from the "Humble Bundle" with some new icons that I added to it. All "Pictures" are originals by me. The office features laptops and lamps that turn on and off(all lamps in the house function similarly). Unfortunately I haven't yet figured out how to use and configure lighting effects so the lamp's actual area of effect is restricted to the tiles the sprites cover. The water in sinks works, you can turn the faucets on and off. The house has many things you can interact with, and a few items to acquire. The second floor, while much smaller, is nearly as interactive. Exploring Great-grandpa's study and finding the spellbook: A map of the east side of the park near the main character's home. The area with the water fountains is a "splashpad" that is animated with the fountains going off in a pattern and the well on the small island in the lake is the access to a cave with a small maze containing chests with some healing items and other such things. No NPCs have been added yet. There will be a bunch of kids running around and so on later. A cave with a small maze containing chests with some healing items and other such things.   22. Hello! So, i started making some maps for my first project in RPG Maker, and if there is something i learned about game design is that the earlier you get feedback, the better. At the moment there is only 2 maps done, i tried to put as much detail as i could with the resources i have (i'm using some RTP stuff, yes, i can't draw pixel art stuff). I want to know if the maps look interesting, empty, overcrowded with detail and NPCs... I will post some images, from the editor and in-game so you can see the effects, but of course you won't be able to see the moving cars and the sound effects i added (for some reason the compressed game installer is 130mb). Any tips and critiques are welcome. This is my first post here, so please tell me if i did something wrong
