Month-long Making! (Contest) I tried to make a cool title. I TRIED OKAY. Ready to make something? Let's go! Heya and welcome back to my crazy run of contests. This one is going to be both wildly different and much more fun (maybe) than anything I've done before, so make sure to read this topic in full! The basic rundown for this contest is to make something in 1 month. Yes that's right, you can make anything. This includes but is not limited to: A fantastic piece of artwork, or a collection of art pieces. A fantastic music track, or an album of tracks. An imaginative game showcasing your game developing abilities (Read on for more details) A general utility script/program that you have designed. Any combination of the above, presented in a logical and concise way (Bonus points if it's all presented nicely basically) Anything else you can think of. Judges: Judging for this contest will be faaairrrlllyyy complex, and as with the previous Indie in a Week contest, the judges will be semi-anonymous, and all handpicked by me. If you want to apply for a judge position, I expect a lengthy PM about it Prizes: 1st Place = Pick 3 prizes + Award icon. 2nd Pace = Pick 2 prizes + Award icon 3rd Place = Pick 1 prize + Award icon 4th Places = Pick 1 prize 5th Place = Pick 1 prize Prize pool subject to change. Any and all prize donations are greatly appreciated. Contestants: Anyone with an active forum account is eligible to enter. If you don't have one, then feel to make one and sign up! Keep in mind if you make a new account your first post will have to be approved, so say hi in the Introductions forum first While i'm not a contestant, I will be making something this month just to get into the spirit of things. Contestants list: @Nirwanda @lianderson @Purple Phantom @Nyuuchan353 @Tarq @Tsarmina @gurisha @Lazzamore @ShinNessTen @Zielach @Loriesquare @ebonknight @RavenBlueIndigo @RoooodWorks Note: If you change your forum display name during the contest, you will still be listed as your original name that you had when you signed up in the contest. Dates: Contest Information made public: 7th November - 6pm GMT Contest start and signups close: 14th November - 6pm GMT Contest end and judging starts: 14th December- 6pm GMT Judging finishes: Around 3 weeks after then game making ends. Depends if the judges submit scores early or not. Results announcement: A few days after judging finishes, or earlier. Next contest: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ FAQs and Misc Details: Almost anything goes! You can submit anything at all as your entry as long as it is able to run/be viewed on Windows 7 or above. (Mac/Linux applications will not be accepted). In addition please do not submit a .psd file. Not everyone owns Photoshop! Regarding asking for help: You may ask other people for help with your project, however they cannot do it for you. They can point out errors in your code/image/whatever and give constructive criticism, but they can't make something and have you pass it off as your own. Plagiarism will not be accepted! Regarding resources used: (IMPORTANT!) Everything submitted must be your original work owned by you. With the exception of an engine's RTP/Default Assests (Including premade scripts that COME WITH then engine. Nothing external.), all resources used in your creation must be made by you and within the time limit. With regards to images this doesn't include techniques/brushes/whatever, as long as you don't copy/paste from your old work. External/freely available resources MAY NOT be used. Tips: Play to your strengths! If you're a natural gamedev, make a game!. If you're a talented artist, draw something!. If you're a skilled musician, make a track(s)! If you're a programmer/scripter, make a program/script/plugin (Resources can be submitted!) This contest was designed to be open to everyone, so don't be afraid to sign up, even if you don't finish on time, you made something you can be proud of! Please put any and all questions in this topic. It's a fairly new concept so don't be afraid to ask if anything is unclear (I've likely missed something out so please ask) Sorry if the timing is a bit awkward, it was going to be later but then things happened so here we are. Happy game making!

Hey all, This is just an area where people who play my IBN entry can show off their highscores (game found here: http://www.rpgmakercentral.com/topic/39492-indie-by-night/?p=278306 ) Just take a screeny of your final score and I'll PM whoever has the highest at the end of IBN's judging period with a list of Steam keys and they can pick one. You can post multiple scores if you do better later on - just edit your original post. I'll be adding a secret score modifier to account for which difficulty you selected. Any feedback about the game, balancing, desired additions, etc., would also be appreciated; it might be nice to while away a few afternoon's making this better. Anyways, thanks again to Nyuu for hosting this and good luck to any participants.

okok, I bet you all we'rent expecting me to post this were you? But alas, here we are. I've noticed a lot of month-long contests happening around (not these forums) so I was wondering what would happen if we were to do one like IIAW, but in a month? The rules and things would be the same, just with a month instead of a week to spice things up. Since this is an interest check and isn't fully planned yet, there is no estimated date, probably around the time IIAW6 should be starting though. (month or two maybe) So that's that, i'd be more than happy to answer any and all questions you have, Thanks! ^u^

"Yay, Jackus has no school anymore" Special Edition! I need to be better at making logos. ~Eien Nanashi Hello again! Do you remember the other three contests? If you do, here it is, the fourth installment in this awesome contest series! (We try to host it bi-monthly. Try to.) News: 1st Place - JacobM (49/80) 2nd/3rd Place - Nirwanda | Shiggy (48/80) -TIE!! 4th Place - Rikifive (47/80) 5th place - NPC (44/80) 6th place - magic2345 (39/80) 7th place - Yuugami (26/80) 8th place - RavenBlueIndigo (22/80) 9th place - Akashosu Naoto (18/80) 10th place - CynaMarqi (17/80) 11th place - Eien Nanashi (10/80) 12th place - Kirimash (9/80) --Disqualified-- Takeo212 - Game had no method of loading, and still crased when you made one. (??/??) This contest is simple. (Or so we thought) Once it starts, you have to make a game, but you have to do it in 1 week. You also have to do it by your own! No teams allowed. You can use any game-making program, but people will use RPG Maker anyway. In that case, you can use any RM. Of course, we're not asking you to making a full-length game, just a game of any length! Do what you can manage in 1 week. Once the game-making period is over and the games have been submitted, it will be scored by the judges. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners depending on how high their score is! The winners will get prizes from the prize pool (order and amount depends on current prize pool content). For more details, read below! If you would like to participate, just make a post in this topic that you want to join! (You can also be a judge if you would like!) [/anchor]Rules: You must submit your game before the contest ends. (see below) You can only start making your game after the contest starts. (see below) Make sure that you create a new project AFTER it has been announced. You cannot use a project file that's been made before the date. You cannot change the link to your game in your submission post once the game-making period is over. Doing so will get you disqualified. Games with any issue upon start-up (missing files, broken intro scene), or have game-breaking bugs early on that prevent progress will be disqualified. If said game-breaking bugs are found further into the game (close to the end/final phase), you will receive a fixed penalty of 10 points. Other kinds of bugs which do not prevent progress will still incur penalty, depending on the severity of the bug. You cannot have other people working on your game. Playtesting is allowed, but playtesting only. You can use resources made by others/public resources. But you cannot start making resources in advance for the game that you will make for this contest. You cannot use ripped resources or resources from other games in your project without permission of the copyright owner, if you are found to have used a ripped resource, you will be disqualified. Dates: Contest Information made public: Whenever this is posted. (17th May - 6:30pm GMT) Contest start and signups close: 24th May - 6pm GMT Contest end and judging starts: 31st May - 6pm GMT Judging finishes: Around 3 weeks after then game making ends. Depends if the judges submit scores early or not. Results announcement: A few days after judging finishes, or earlier. Indie in a Week 5: Sometime around end of July/start of August. Maybe. Prize Pool: All prizes have been taken. Please join us next time for more! [anchor=Participants]Participants: If you would like to sign up, please post and mention in it that you would like to join/participate in the contest! The same goes for those who want to be a judge for the games, please mention in the post that you would like to be a judge! Note: You can be both a judge and a contestant at the same time, but be aware that you will be unable to judge your own game (obviously) if you do so. The other judges will. Contestants (13/17 Submitted - NEW HIGH SCORE): Yuugami - Submitted! Eien Nanashi - Submitted! LordSquirrel - Failed to Submit in time. Aletheos - Failed to Submit in time. Nirwanda - Submitted! Takeo212 - Disqualified! - No launcher and even if you make one the game crashes. Shiggy - Submitted! magic2345 - Submitted! Deathtroth - Quit RavenBlueIndigo -Submitted! Rikifive - Submitted!! NPC - Submitted! JacobM - Submitted! Akashosu Naoto - Submitted! Kirimash - Submitted! CynaMarqi - Submitted! SpuddyFerret - Quit Judges (8): @Retnuh @Tarq @Sky Usanin @Kloe Note: If you change your forum display name during the contest, you will still be listed as your original name that you had when you signed up in the contest. Scoring: FAQ/Misc. Details: Tips: - Don't spend days thinking up of the idea. You can start with a simple one and go from there. Just start, and you might even get ideas more easily! - Start small. Don't plan too much features. We're not expecting a full length game. In fact, we're expecting very short games. Games that can be made in a week. - Having more content in your game is important, so focus on that. Again, don't spend too much time thinking what's the "absolute best" (or something like that) you can fit in before you even do it/anything. - If you're running out of time, don't be afraid to cut it short and wrap it up quickly! A game that feels complete is better than a game that feels like an unfinished demo. - "Most importantly... don't procrastinate!" ~ Eien - And of course, have fun! It's the most important thing. Happy game making! If you have any questions, ask it here in the topic. I could have missed something (as usual). What happens now? IIAW5 Hype. Special Thanks:

Credit to Eien Nanashi for the logo. The Game-Making Period has ended! Entries are closed! The contest's theme is "Silence". It is up to you on how to interpret, and implement the theme into your game! Good luck, and most importantly, have fun! Happy game making! Lists: --- Hello there! Do you remember the other two contests? If you do, then I've got great news, it's back again! If you've never heard of this, then here's a brilliant new contest for you to enter. The rules are quite simple on the surface. Make a game. Simple enough? Okay now try it in a week. That's what this contest is all about. I would spoiler all the categories but you must read everything or, something like that. Let's get started! Q: So Jackus, who's taking part? Glad you asked! Here is the list of people who have entered so far along with some info about their entry. (Like if they've dropped out or finished) Use this as a kind of contestant tracker. Clicking a name will take you to their profile for now. Later it will take you to their project post. [see LISTS at top of post] Q: And who's going to be judging these? Good question, you could if you wanted to! That's right, the contest is judged by volunteers. (And me!) Anyone can volunteer to contribute towards the judging. Even if you're a contestant! Be aware you can't judge your own game though. That would be unfair. The overall score is an average of all the judges. You can provide reasons, although they're not required. Also I might ask you to justify your scoring so be prepared for that. Especially if you are also a contestant, I'll be keeping a closer eye on you. [see LISTS at top of post] Q: So, how are we being judged? What do judges need to look out for? Well, since I lack any creativity in this section, I'm sorry to say I kind of stole the guidelines from the IGMC. But they work so well, so I guess they stay. Here they are: You got all that? :3 Basically, you will be scored (by the judges) in three main categories. Presentation, Gameplay, and Engagement. But actually, it's four categories. You will also be scored in Theme (or, The Twist). The scoring will be in a scale of 0 ~ 20 for each category, meaning you can have a maximum of 80 points. The Theme is, well, the theme of your game. It will be announced when the game-making period starts (see below for Dates). It will be completely up to your interpretation. Making a game completely unrelated to the theme will give you no points in the Theme category. Taking the theme literally (basically, in a boring/predictable way) won't give you much points, either. A clever use of the theme will give you more Theme points. Still, don't let the Theme stop you from making a game if you think you can't make up a clever interpretation. That's just 20 of the 80 points you might get a score on. Q: Okay that's all well and good, but what if a game has a major glitch or bug? Will we be disqualified for a single mistake? Since it's in a week, I'll be kind of lenient on minor typos, and I ask that the judges do the same. However there are a few rules. Repeated minor issues such as typos or wrong tiles will result in a few points taken away. Try not to be too harsh with this, judges. Major issues which affect gameplay will also decrease from the total score. Judges, try to use your judgement with this. A game breaking problem which prevents continuing will hold a fixed penalty of 10 points, with additional points maybe being lost in categories if content is missed. Any issue upon loading the game(Such as missing files or broken intro scenes) will mean you are disqualified! Please remember to playtest your game at least once all the way through before submitting it. Q: And what about length? What's stopping someone from holding up judging with a 60 hour grinding masterpiece? And when does a judge stop judging? About length, the game can be realistically any length. However don't expect anything over an hour to be judged. A judge can stop when either they reach the end, are stopped by a bug or reach 1 hour. They don't have to stop over an hour, but after that point they can quit anytime without a reason. If you believe a game is frustrating or unplayable you can also stop, but make sure to tell me your reason if you stop early. Just don't stop because it's a battle system you don't enjoy or anything like that. Q: So I notice this is INDIE in a Week 3, does that mean you're not allowed teamwork? What about other people playtesting?? Ah, this old topic, this one got much debate before. Basically, anyone actually working on the game (Creating maps, events and enemies etc...) is not allowed except for you and you alone. This is a one man army challenge, a team would throw it all off balance. You can brainstorm with other people, and bounce idea off them, as long as the one doing everything is you. As for others playtesting, sure. They can even give you bug reports and stuff too, as long as they don't actually fix the bugs in your project and send it back. You must edit everything. Q: So I've gotta do all of this, in a single week? I'll never make it, I'll end up procrastinating or getting caught up in real life situations Ah, about that. I'm not looking for the next Final Fantasy, I don't expect a fully fledged RPG in a week, heck I don't even expect that in a month. But what I do want is your best shot. If you're short for time you could always cut it short. The games I like best in past Indie in a Week contests were short, sweet and concise. For a (terrible) example, check out Glory Quest which I made in a single hour! And as for real life, I understand that sometimes (Most of the time) these situations are unavoidable. My only advise is this, be prepared. You should have something ready, don't wait until the last minute to submit. Try to get it in at the very least a few hours beforehand. You don't' need to squeeze out every second of game development, some of the best games for previous IIAW contests were submitted days before the deadline. Q: And resources? Can I use resources made by others? Can I make my own before the contest starts? You can use any public resources, and even commissions (Although I don't recommend it) as long as you have the author/artists permission to use it in a contest. Despite the lack of cash prizes, some consider a contest like this to be commercial use, so tread carefully. As for your resources, anything made before the contest is fair game, you can use any of it since you obviously have your own permission. However, any resources created for the game cannot be made before the contest starts (March 1st) however, anything made in this time that wasn't for the project can be used. It's a bit weird, but use your best judgement. Or go full RTP. Q: Okay, enough of this. Let's get down to serious talk. What do I get out of this? What do I win? I agree, this is the most important part All prizes are donated Steam keys, so you will need Steam to redeem them. Any RPG Maker DLC will need the appropriate RPG Maker engine activated on Steam. I haven't yet decided how to distribute these prizes, and I welcome more! If you have any spare steam keys (Or any other kind of gift) then feel free to PM me with details Current Prize Pool: Another Perspective Beyond Reality Death Ray Manta Detective Case and Clown Bot in: Murder in The Hotel Lisbon Savant - Ascent Spoiler Alert Collectors Edition Stealth Bastard Deluxe Q: Alright! Now how exactly do I compete? Glad you asked! All you need to do is, between 23rd February and 1st March (6pm GMT), make a post in this topic asking if you want to enter. You can also PM me, but I don't see why since your name will be on the list here anyway so you won't exactly be anonymous. Q: Ah, what about the dates? The dates? Dates: Contest Information made public: 23rd February - 6pm GMT Contest start and signups close: 1st March - 6pm GMT Contest end and judging starts: 8th March - 6pm GMT Judging finishes: Anytime before the end of March. Results announcement: A few days after judging finishes. Indie in a Week 4 starts: Sometime in April/May. Maybe June. Q: Wow. Any last words? Not really. I think we've covered everything, thanks for reading all of this... me talking to myself! I hope it.. informed you..? Or something. Bleh, I'm tired. Here's a summary of the rules, just for convenience. Rules: Anyways, any questions, stick 'em in the topic, I could have missed something (As usual) Happy game making! (Thanks to Eien Nanashi for cleaning up some typos, making things stand out in a cool way and making the summary) Bonus section! These questions weren't me talking to myself, but actual questions posted in this topic.

Hello all! I am hold a contest for those of you who enjoy writing stories! The propose of this contest is to actually get fairy tales for books in my game. So I'll layout the rules real quick. The stories must be in the format of no more than 45-50 characters (Letters spaces punctuation) per line and be spaced with four lines making every paragraph (The same format that text boxes follow). You may write as much as you like, splitting up your book into chapters or different books is perfectly acceptable Keep in mind your story will be in a game, so people may not wan tot read it all at once (sort of how the books in Skyrim are). You must also include an Author's name (Can be real or fake), the name you would like put into the credits of my game (I'll give everyone whose story gets in credit, because you're awesome), Title(s) of the book(s) and denotations of when chapters or books end. How I will chose: I will pick the winner by how well I feel their story(ies) fit into my game. Keep in mind this is a fantasy RPG game, if you want a better feel for what sorts of things to write you can try my game out (It's called Rune Life, you can find it on this site in the gaming lounge). Prizes: I will then use your author's name for a quest that will involve part of your story, or perhaps a book related quest. (I'll even use a custom sprite or make one in your likeness if you want). The Best Fit: Will receive the above mentioned prizes in addition to their story being found through out the game (in things like random books and bookshelves) Runner ups: If more than one story is good, I will also give you credits and use your stories, but it won't be involved in a quest. The Contest entry times will be from 12/14/2015 - 1/15/2016. I will post on the last day to tell you guys when I expect to have the winners selected and when they will be announced.
