Eva Reynes: Volume I

She was one of the best in her line of work. She had it all - the money, the fame, the respect of her peers and the fear in the eyes of her enemies. But sometimes all it takes is one hit from the bitch called life to knock you off your feet. Following the tragedy of the RM-8 incident, Eva Reynes finds herself in a life drenched with alcohol and music, with no care in the world for her job and her responsibilities. Evenings once spent chasing criminals were now spent chasing bottles of whisky. On one such evening, she got a call from her apprentice and friend, Damien Wills. He had been framed for murder. "Just this time" were her words when she put on her overcoat and headed for the scene of the crime. But when she finds out that this case somehow connects to the one case which ruined her life, how will she react? Are there answers at the end of the road, or will she end up chasing shadows leading nowhere? How will the years of drinking and reclusion take a toll on her when it matters the most? Walk in the footsteps of the legendary Eva Reynes and unveil the truth. Warning: Eva Reynes: Volume One is a dark, sadistic mystery game which gets increasingly difficult, and there will be no hand-holding after the tutorial. After the first episode, you will be on your own to make deductions and find clues. The game will NOT warn you if you go on the wrong path, miss clues, or make wrong deductions, which may eventually put you on a one way street to a bad ending. At times you won't even know where you made the mistake. - Unique personalities, complex and unpredictable plots, and a captivating story. - Investigate crime scenes, search for clues, make deductions and find out the truth. - Engage in timed discourse battles; point out contradictions using the evidence you've found. - Manage and develop skills/traits like Personality, Perception, Discourse, etc. - At times you'll have to choose between being a good person or a good investigator. - Original content and artwork. - Several bad endings, one normal ending and one true ending. Light of the World

Hi everyone. I’ll try to keep this short and not too verbose. This project has actually been complete for about 2 months now, but since I tend to harbor feelings of self-doubt in things I do, I debated with myself as to whether it was suitable to be shared. Ultimately, I decided that it’s probably good enough. I welcome constructive criticism, feedback, and of course any bug reports are very much appreciated. Background “Light of the World” is my RPG project that I worked on over the past 2.5 years. Ever since I was a kid, it’s been a dream of mine to create my own game, so I’m happy that I finally could realize that dream. However, it would make me even happier if others could enjoy it, since that’s the whole point of video games! Because I’m not a programmer and not good at graphic design, I was fortunate to be able to work on my project with RPG Maker VX Ace. When I started making my game, I had two specific goals in mind. First, I wanted to compose all the music, and I wanted it all to be good. In my opinion, the best video games all have stellar soundtracks, so I put my absolute all into writing the music for “Light of the World”—and I hope it shows! Even if nothing else about my game is good, in the very least I hope my music is something that people can enjoy. My second aim was to write up a good storyline, and while I do think there are things I could’ve done better, I’m overall satisfied with the result. Here’s a quick rundown of some things you can expect: Language, alcohol, and one sexually suggestive part of the story; I’d say my game rates probably around “PG13,” though that’s just my opinion and I’m not in the business of ESRB ratings (So I'm not sure if this post would necessitate one of those "mature content" banners; my first instinct would be to say "no" but I'm not 100% familiar with the guidelines here on what qualifies as "mature") ~10 hours of gameplay Starts off kinda boring but it gets better (trust me) Closed-world RPG with minimal random encounters and a fixed level progression; no grinding needed Challenging boss fights Story-driven Decent variety of puzzles strewn throughout the game 42 original music tracks Lots of shoutouts and callbacks to oldschool games ranging from Resident Evil to Fire Emblem and everything in between Vanilla RPG Maker VX Ace assets are used because I’m not good with graphic design I also recorded a short 10-minute video describing my thoughts on my project, in case you’re interested in hearing. It’ll be on my YT channel, alongside all of my music tracks for “Light of the World.” If this all sounds like it’d be fun to you, then I’d love if you would give my game a shot. If not, then that’s fine; I wish you the best either way. Story You play as Lucy, a new recruit to the Adventurers' Guild, a multi-national association with goals to explore the world and establish peace and prosperity wherever possible. You'll be starting off on a newly-discovered island by the name of Lairotut. On the surface, there doesn't really seem much to this generic adventure premise, but if you stick it through, you just may be surprised at where the journey takes you. Screenshots Download Link https://www.dropbox.com/s/8suax36ef3ojy6y/Light of the World.exe?dl=0 Credits Music, writing, production, bug testing – me One music track (“Astronomy”) written by Albert & Joe Bouchard, Sandy Pearlman (Blue Oyster Cult), which I then transcribed into a .midi file RPG Maker VX Ace Developed and produced by Enterbrain & Kadokawa Games. This includes the game engine, most of the graphics, the ambient sound effects (rain, wind, etc.), and basic sound effects. DLC pack for some extra assets Adiktuzmiko boldpaste2 Candacis Deathswallow Ksi Marquise Matombo Matseb2611 Pandamaru TheInfamousBonBon Scripts Victor Sant – basic engine, numerous battle system scripts, and anti-lag Yanfly Engine – skills with HP costs (Lucy is very grateful!) Daimonious Tales Games – keybinding, options menu, HP bars for battles, popups for obtaining items, Syvkal – pretty stat bars for the status & battle screens (HP, MP, TP, Atk, etc.) Shadowmaster9000 – playtime display in the pause screen William Couillard – Final Fantasy-inspired battle log Seiryuki – advanced inventory categorization Lecode – status effects display on enemies during battle Melosx – more detailed save screen Hime Works – RMVX Ace Vehicle BGM fix I believe I hit on all the requirements for submitting a thread, but please let me know if there's anything I missed. Thanks!

Hey all, not sure if this website is too active lately, but I recently started working on my VX Ace horror game again, and started drawing all the maps from scratch as parallaxes, as opposed to tiling. I was wondering if anyone would be able to critique them... (screenshots are attached) Critique ANYTHING! Art style, level design, atmosphere, etc... Let me know your thoughts in the comments! FYI, in the game your character's health is measured by sanity. The counter in the top right shows that, and I have a system where the lower your sanity, the more distorted some levels can be One of the first rooms, eyes don't appear unless sanity is at 1. 1st puzzle area. 1st appearance of a "monster", standing still against wall until a later moment. Day and Night puzzle room
5. I know you can use a conditional branch for one item when it comes to implementing puzzles, but what about two items or more? Take the lighter puzzle in Mad Father for example: Aya needs an empty lighter, lighter fluid and cooking oil in order to burn the monster blocking her path. How would you do that in RPG Maker VX Ace?

I just wanted to post and say I completed a simple sewer valve puzzle. I'm pretty proud of it.
7. Canvas This is a game for those who love to explore, experiment, and discover. Welcome. Story: Arrym is a Wraith, one of an elite band of thieves notorious for taking on big jobs. He has all the talent in the world, but what little motivation he once had has all but dried up. Branak has the opposite problem. He is a Wisp, a newly inducted member of the guild, with seemingly misplaced dreams of greatness. He is determined to prove himself in the eyes of his superiors and take his place among the Wraiths. They are partners. In the midst of completing a job and evading their sworn enemies, the Knights of the Thorn, they are presented with a bigger job. Much bigger...and far more noble than they would typically agree to. Battle System: Almost everything on-map in Canvas is evented, including the battle system. Use an assortment of pixel-based attacks and abilities to dispatch your enemies in a variety of ways. You can anger them with arrows, stun them with bombs, throw them into each other with gusts of wind, and more! Each on-map enemy was carefully crafted with its own behavior, movement style, and methods of attack to provide the player with challenging and often thought-provoking encounters. Your on-map weapon will change appearance based on the weapon you have equipped. Features: Character swapping - each with their own unique "tool" and advantage/disadvantages when it comes to combat (Weapon range, attack speed, etc.) A variety of shared tools/abilities acquired throughout the game, useful for combat and puzzle solving. Item crafting Area maps Bestiary Glossary Characters grow based on your AP allocation A free-jump system that works hand in hand with my... Robust elevation system - Ties in with projectiles, tools, line of sight, jumping, etc. Puzzles aplenty! - You will need to experiment with your tools, and then come up with new and creative ways use and combine them. Mini-games galore! - As you explore the world of Canvas, you will discover many evented mini-games to add variety to the gameplay. They are all fully-interactive game systems as opposed to pass/fail based on a number or stat systems. 12. Hey, so recently I started making a game and I wanted to incorporate a puzzle in which the player pushes 3 barrels across a river to make a bridge. That would allow the player to use the barrels to get across and, therefore, have access to the other side. However, I have no clue how to even start with this. I have looked up tutorials on how to do this but the only pretty helpful one that I found had imgur images and they were broken, which means I couldn't see the event pages in the first place :/ So, I'm sorry if it seems nooby, but I'd like to know how I could pull this off using things like switches, events and variables and preferably without a script. Any help on the topic is very much appreciated Images are helpful
13. I'm trying to figure out how to do a Zelda ALTTP styled 2 color crystal block switch puzzle, and was wondering how I might go about it with eventing? Say I have a room full of blue and orange blocks, and two crystals to get to the exit. How would I go about setting up the crystals to sync and the blocks to sync with the crystals? Any help would be immensely appreciated.

15. A puzzle-exploration game with horror elements Angela the high school girl is having a recurring dream... but what does it mean? The answer can only lie in going deeper... --- Game status: Completed (with placeholder graphics), possibility for minor mechanical edits. (p.s. asdjhagsk I know I tagged this wrong, I can't figure out a way to edit tags if there is a way at all? Sorry. Could I request movement to 'masterpiece theatre'.) Testing status: v100 tested by multiple people, major bugs should be removed now. (Bug reports always welcome, though!) Length: ~1hr Content warnings: religious themes; some blood/death; dark themes (abuse, insanity (although strictly non-explicit)). Some mild-moderate scares. Very mild language. --- Gameplay: Mostly takes place inside a recurring dream, where gameplay revolves around puzzles. The story is hints-based, so exploration is recommended. A complete walkthrough is included for if you get stuck. There are also a couple of chase scenes where reaction time will be your biggest asset. Highlights: Original, thematic puzzles + creepiness. --- Screenies: Minor issues/Credits: At present if you backtrack from the swimming pool to the balcony, the stairs will appear not to work anymore. 17. All right, so something I'm really wanting to do for the next portion of my game is have a side-quest dungeon that leads the main character to a very useful piece of armor for him. This shield is equipped with an effect that reflects all directly offensive magic attacks thrown towards it. Due to the reflective nature of the shield, and the identity of its bearer, being one of the martyred saints of the game's religion, a classic mirrors-and-light puzzle sounded extraordinarily appealing to me. However, I've scoured through these boards and many others, and have found nothing that allows for a Spirit-Temple-Esque reflected light puzzle without extensive homebrewed code. I was wondering if there was any possible way at all I could attempt to event my way through this sort of redirecting-light puzzle (by pressing levers and turning mirrors, leading to them opening the final pathway). I feel like this could be possible by handling the angle of the statue/mirror sprites through events and data from the database, and simply using pictures to create the visual effect of the beams of reflected light, but I'm not sure if that's a correct assumption or not.
18. I'm creating a horror game, and I want to be able to show emotion and give story through puzzles, without puzzles being easy or boring. I'm not sure how I can create engaging and creative puzzles, while still keeping horror atmosphere, story, and keeping the player engaged. I have a few ideas, but not enough to keep the puzzles interesting throughout the story. Any ideas?

Ok so here I am.. again... stuck again... I am so sorry so essentially what I want to do is make the floor of the puzzle room slippery and essentially make it and ice floor puzzle where you have to slide from stone to stone till your aligned with where you want to go. But I can't seem to find where to do that in the events panel any suggestions? or is this a full version needed sort of thing?
21. Abstract: An adventure about a woman who owns a tea shop in the middle of all realities. Genre:RPG, side-scroller, puzzler, side scroller, Sci-Fi, Horror, H.P. Lovecraft Game Progression: 5% Story / Setting / Purpose: Mrs. E Chapter One "On Reflection" is a serial RPG about a woman who owns a tea shop in the middle of every reality, finding herself on various adventures throughout the Multiverse. Ironically all she wants is to get tea for her shop but ends up saving the day from all manner of evil. Mrs. E will be a side scrolling mystery science fiction RPG with a unique artistic scrap book montage to the GUI and some other goodies. Set on alternative realities, planets and times Mrs. E covers many adventures on countless worlds. Playing as either the titular character or one of her companions, you solve mysteries, fight mastermind villains and make choices at the end of each game that will have a profound impact on the ending of each game, and the following game should you wish to continue your experiences from the last. The biggest myetery you have to face in the 13 episodes of the series is who Elizabeth was in her previous life, and why it was so important she forget about it. Character Bios: Elizabeth (Mrs. E): The owner of the strange little tea shop who's doors open to literally anywhere. She is very English and quirky, dark and mysterious and insists she is married. To whom is probably the biggest mystery in her life. She has lead many different lives before, with many different faces and many names, all beginning with the letter "E" and often refers to a time where for her "Everything changed". Whilst caring and emotional on the outside, she has lived so many lives she often finds herself aloof and out of ouch, constantly needing that human interaction to keep her focused. Her greatest frustration, however, is not remembering her previous life and spends most of the series trying to solve that mystery. Credits: Music: TBH Artwork: Josh Clark Scripts: Atelier Rgss Screenshots: . Features: A side scroller adventure spanning countless realities in which you must solve the mystery of your past and in the process make sure your multidimensional tea room stays in business. Little combat, but any there will be will be adapted from a unique system I am currently researching.
