    That's my Exploit Keeper!

A short game made in less than a month, developing an idea I had in mind from long time ago after playing lots of poorly made RPG Maker games. Edinya, the guardian of the sacred tree, is suddenly awakened by one of her guards, who reports to her of inexplicable events within the forest that she must urgently go investigate... The two creators of her world, the two game developers, are in conflict over who holds the intellectual property rights of the game, and their character Edinya is right in the middle. Help her find exploits within the games in order to put an end to their struggle that is wreaking havoc on the entire game world. Exploit Keeper is a puzzle game, where you have to change the version of the game between the well developed one and the poorly developed one, to find the game bugs and exploit them to be able to continue the plot. Badly programmed mechanics might be useful if used in the right place... Between features that work poorly, repeating events and unindexed values, you will find every kind of nightmarish bug for beta testers! Probably not intended Screenshots: Length: 30-60 minutes. There is a "solution system" if you can't solve the puzzles. There are two standard endings, and a super secret one! Game both in English and Italian. Credits: In the game folder Download: https://waldorf.itch.io/exploit-keeper
  3. A short Christmas puzzle game created for the Christmas game contest 2021, made in 24 non-consecutive hours. Story: Fazey, an expert gate builder, returns home after sending his letter. He meets Amilpha, one of his (if not the only) acquaintances, who convinces him that Santa Claus is evil and wants to steal all of his sweets. And so they start this adventure in his home to seal off every route with gates, but they meet a bitter surprise... Characters: Fazey A simpleton boy, expert in building doors and gates. Lives in a house that he keeps expanding day after day, to have more space to build even more gates. Amilpha Weird girl that stealthily lives in Fazey's home. He built an entire network of chimneys to easily move between rooms without encountering the owner. Santa Claus? Legends say that a certain "Santa Claus" enters your home every Christmas to steal your sweets, starting with milk and biscuits near the Christmas tree. But are those rumors true? Gameplay: Jingle Gates is a puzzle game, where you need to build every gate in the level in order to continue. What does it have to do with Christmas, you'll wonder. Simple! … Uh- …right! There are also items like gifts to pick up to do some funny things, like jumping into fireplaces! Wood: When you have wood and a hammer, you must build a gate when you go into a door. Gift: You can move to the linked fireplace by using the gift. Hammer: Used for building gates. When you build one, the hammer ends on the other side. Cake: ??? (Not a lie) There are 9 levels, scaling in difficulty. Screenshots: Download: https://waldorf.itch.io/jingle-gates 108 Mb Standalone Length: 40-60 minutes. Game available both in English and Italian.

    Puzzle Ideas?

Hi everyone, I am unsure if this is in the right section, sorry if it isn't! Anyway, I am looking for ideas for puzzles in my RMMV project. I keep using the same old "find switches, move the rock, etc" puzzles and they're getting old fast, but I don't have any other ideas. What are some puzzles you guys like to use?

    SpongeBound: The Attack of Giygas!

-Story- In the peaceful town of Bikini Bottom, a dark omen is coming.... Giygas, the universal cosmic destroyer is planning on sending all to the horror of eternal darkness before destroying the universe itself... However, an ancient prophecy has predicted that Giygas's plans will fail due to the existence of a boy named.... "SpongeBob"... The prophecy says that six boys and one girl, known as the Chosen Seven, will find the power of all eight "Your Sanctuaries" and defeat Giygas.... It is all up to SpongeBob and his six friends to stop Giygas and save the universe. They will meet new friends from other popular cartoons or games and team up with them to stop the evil that blocks light from shining..... Can you help them stop it? -Gameplay- You play as SpongeBob and his friends traveling through a large world with many things to explore. Exploring has an Earthbound feel to it. You fight in random encounters similar to Earthbound Zero and battle in a turn based battle system controlling seven characters at once! Sadly, rolling HP is not in this game, the HP and PP system is similar to Earthbound Zero. This is a simple game made in RPG Maker VX Ace in a span of 6 months so many defaults still exist. There are many similarities to Earthbound and Earthbound Zero (because the game is based on that!) such as skill names and enemies. However, this is not a pushover game. It will be unforgiving if you're not prepared! The story is about 40 hours long. There are many secret dungeons and bosses that really test your skills! -Main Seven Character Rundown- (There are many other characters but these are the main seven you’ll be using.) SpongeBob: White Mage - High HP, Speed - Average PP, Offense, Defense, IQ, PSI Defense, and Luck Patrick: Knight - Low HP, PP, IQ, PSI Defense, Speed - High Offense, Defense - Average Luck Gary: Black Mage #1 - Low HP, Offense, Speed - High PP, IQ, Defense, PSI Defense - Average Luck SquidWard: Red Mage - High HP, Speed - Average PP, Offense, Defense, PSI Defense, IQ - Low Luck Mr. Krabs: Fighter - High HP, Offense, Defense, Luck - Low Speed, PSI Defense, IQ - No PP Sandy: Black Mage #2 + Monk - Low HP, Defense - High PP, Offense, Speed, IQ, PSI Defense - Average Luck Plankton: Black Mage# 3 + Thief - Low HP, Offense, Defense, PSI Defense, Luck - High PP, Speed, IQ -Videos (Can these substitute for Screenshots? My phone can’t do that..)- -Credits- Several tilesets used from Aindra’s Corner Several scripts used from Yanfly Several scripts used from Victor Engine Music from Nickelodeon (Most Converted to 8-bit.) Several songs from Square Enix games Several songs from Nintendo games Several songs from DarkNES Several songs from Rainbowcrash88 Several songs from Kil6969 Several sounds from Earthbound SpongeBob sprites from NoJoy -Download Link- https://gamejolt.com/games/spongebound-the-attack-of-giygas/386085 -Known Issues- - Sandy and Bowser’s sprites are slightly messed up, Sandy’s tail sometimes pops up in front of her while walking, and Bowser’s too big for the Party Menu, so he covers other character’s sprites sometimes. - Sometimes, Pray and Dance do nothing. I’m pretty sure it’s a small error with a script I’m using. It’s from Yanfly but I don’t know how to fix it. - I used RTP sprites for the fish in Bikini Bottom. There used to be fish sprites but they got taken down, so I couldn’t use them. Disclaimer- SpongeBob SquarePants, related characters and places are owned by Nickelodeon. No copyright infringement is intended. This is a free fan-game and should not be sold. There are many other cartoon and video game characters that are in the game but if I put this disclaimer for all of them it would take forever! Just know that this is only a fan-game and copyright infringement for all game series in the game IS NOT intended. -Extra Notes- - This Game is basic and uses a lot of RTP things. Don’t judge the game because of that! I’m not a good sprite artist, so I couldn’t really do anything about that.... (My best sprite of Pearl looked like a gray and pink blob...) - This Game is hard and has a lot of difficulty spikes and puzzles! Just know that before you play!

  12. So I've got a puzzle in my game wherein you place four cards in four picture frames (plus a fifth frame in the room over), and if you press a button in the next room and all the right cards are in the right picture frames, the door opens. Else, you die. Problem is, I'm doing...SOMETHING wrong, obviously, between my events and my common events and the scripts I've got. When facing a picture frame, you should be able to select any card from your items to place it within, but for some of the cards you can't, while with one of the cards you can. In addition, when you slip a card into a frame and then examine a frame you're supposed to receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the card again, and sometimes, uh, you don't get that prompt. In fact, you get the "this frame is empty" message instead. An exact rundown of my problems: Frame 1: Can't place any card except the Ace of Clubs Frame 2: Can't place any card except the Ace of Clubs Frame 3: Can't place any card except the Ace of Clubs. In addition, after placing the Ace of Clubs, I get the "empty picture frame" message upon examination. Frame 4: Can't place any card except the Ace of Clubs. In addition, after placing the Ace of Clubs, I get the "empty picture frame" message upon examination. Frame 5 (in next room): Frame 2: Can't place any card except the Ace of Clubs I don't know what I'm doing wrong, and I *definitely* don't know why it's the Clubs only that sometimes works. Any help would be appreciated. My game so far can be found at the following link, though I can't remember if in the save I've had the player character take the Ace of Hearts off of Frame 5 yet (that part works fine, at least). https://www.mediafire.com/file/qpt52dg6yjnj48t/French_Castle.zip/file
  13. I'm working on programming a puzzle to use in this game I'm making, and while I think I know how to do the programming, what I have in mind seems somewhat complicated to the extent that I don't know if I actually know or if there's some much simpler way I'm missing entirely. The puzzle is this: The player character has four key items: Item A, Item B, Item C, and Item D. There are four receptacles in a room, Frame W, Frame X, Frame Y, and Frame Z. By facing Frame W and selecting Item A from the menu, the player is given the choice to place Item A in Frame W (I believe this particular part of the programming can be accomplished through common events, but I can't be sure if it's the best way to do it). If the player inspects Frame W with Item A in it, they are given the choice to remove Item A from Frame W, which will, of course, also return Item A to the player character's key items. Of course, this should work with any of the Items and any of the Frames. Nearby is a button. If the button is activated when the correct Items are in the correct Frames, a door will open. Otherwise, the player character will be damaged (frankly, this is the part I expect to be the easiest to program. I'm guessing I can just have a specific variable be set when an Item goes into a Frame, and the result of the button being pressed will depend on whether the combination of variables as they are currently set are the right ones, but again, I don't know if it's the best way to do it). Any tips or tricks? Thanks.

    Eva Reynes: Volume I

She was one of the best in her line of work. She had it all - the money, the fame, the respect of her peers and the fear in the eyes of her enemies. But sometimes all it takes is one hit from the bitch called life to knock you off your feet. Following the tragedy of the RM-8 incident, Eva Reynes finds herself in a life drenched with alcohol and music, with no care in the world for her job and her responsibilities. Evenings once spent chasing criminals were now spent chasing bottles of whisky. On one such evening, she got a call from her apprentice and friend, Damien Wills. He had been framed for murder. "Just this time" were her words when she put on her overcoat and headed for the scene of the crime. But when she finds out that this case somehow connects to the one case which ruined her life, how will she react? Are there answers at the end of the road, or will she end up chasing shadows leading nowhere? How will the years of drinking and reclusion take a toll on her when it matters the most? Walk in the footsteps of the legendary Eva Reynes and unveil the truth. Warning: Eva Reynes: Volume One is a dark, sadistic mystery game which gets increasingly difficult, and there will be no hand-holding after the tutorial. After the first episode, you will be on your own to make deductions and find clues. The game will NOT warn you if you go on the wrong path, miss clues, or make wrong deductions, which may eventually put you on a one way street to a bad ending. At times you won't even know where you made the mistake. - Unique personalities, complex and unpredictable plots, and a captivating story. - Investigate crime scenes, search for clues, make deductions and find out the truth. - Engage in timed discourse battles; point out contradictions using the evidence you've found. - Manage and develop skills/traits like Personality, Perception, Discourse, etc. - At times you'll have to choose between being a good person or a good investigator. - Original content and artwork. - Several bad endings, one normal ending and one true ending. Light of the World

Hi everyone. I’ll try to keep this short and not too verbose. This project has actually been complete for about 2 months now, but since I tend to harbor feelings of self-doubt in things I do, I debated with myself as to whether it was suitable to be shared. Ultimately, I decided that it’s probably good enough. I welcome constructive criticism, feedback, and of course any bug reports are very much appreciated. Background “Light of the World” is my RPG project that I worked on over the past 2.5 years. Ever since I was a kid, it’s been a dream of mine to create my own game, so I’m happy that I finally could realize that dream. However, it would make me even happier if others could enjoy it, since that’s the whole point of video games! Because I’m not a programmer and not good at graphic design, I was fortunate to be able to work on my project with RPG Maker VX Ace. When I started making my game, I had two specific goals in mind. First, I wanted to compose all the music, and I wanted it all to be good. In my opinion, the best video games all have stellar soundtracks, so I put my absolute all into writing the music for “Light of the World”—and I hope it shows! Even if nothing else about my game is good, in the very least I hope my music is something that people can enjoy. My second aim was to write up a good storyline, and while I do think there are things I could’ve done better, I’m overall satisfied with the result. Here’s a quick rundown of some things you can expect: Language, alcohol, and one sexually suggestive part of the story; I’d say my game rates probably around “PG13,” though that’s just my opinion and I’m not in the business of ESRB ratings (So I'm not sure if this post would necessitate one of those "mature content" banners; my first instinct would be to say "no" but I'm not 100% familiar with the guidelines here on what qualifies as "mature") ~10 hours of gameplay Starts off kinda boring but it gets better (trust me) Closed-world RPG with minimal random encounters and a fixed level progression; no grinding needed Challenging boss fights Story-driven Decent variety of puzzles strewn throughout the game 42 original music tracks Lots of shoutouts and callbacks to oldschool games ranging from Resident Evil to Fire Emblem and everything in between Vanilla RPG Maker VX Ace assets are used because I’m not good with graphic design I also recorded a short 10-minute video describing my thoughts on my project, in case you’re interested in hearing. It’ll be on my YT channel, alongside all of my music tracks for “Light of the World.” If this all sounds like it’d be fun to you, then I’d love if you would give my game a shot. If not, then that’s fine; I wish you the best either way. Story You play as Lucy, a new recruit to the Adventurers' Guild, a multi-national association with goals to explore the world and establish peace and prosperity wherever possible. You'll be starting off on a newly-discovered island by the name of Lairotut. On the surface, there doesn't really seem much to this generic adventure premise, but if you stick it through, you just may be surprised at where the journey takes you. HALF DEAD horror art :)

Hey all, not sure if this website is too active lately, but I recently started working on my VX Ace horror game again, and started drawing all the maps from scratch as parallaxes, as opposed to tiling. I was wondering if anyone would be able to critique them... (screenshots are attached) Critique ANYTHING! Art style, level design, atmosphere, etc... Let me know your thoughts in the comments! FYI, in the game your character's health is measured by sanity. The counter in the top right shows that, and I have a system where the lower your sanity, the more distorted some levels can be One of the first rooms, eyes don't appear unless sanity is at 1. 1st puzzle area. 1st appearance of a "monster", standing still against wall until a later moment. Day and Night puzzle room
  18. I know you can use a conditional branch for one item when it comes to implementing puzzles, but what about two items or more? Take the lighter puzzle in Mad Father for example: Aya needs an empty lighter, lighter fluid and cooking oil in order to burn the monster blocking her path. How would you do that in RPG Maker VX Ace?

  20. Canvas This is a game for those who love to explore, experiment, and discover. Welcome. Story: Arrym is a Wraith, one of an elite band of thieves notorious for taking on big jobs. He has all the talent in the world, but what little motivation he once had has all but dried up. Branak has the opposite problem. He is a Wisp, a newly inducted member of the guild, with seemingly misplaced dreams of greatness. He is determined to prove himself in the eyes of his superiors and take his place among the Wraiths. They are partners. In the midst of completing a job and evading their sworn enemies, the Knights of the Thorn, they are presented with a bigger job. Much bigger...and far more noble than they would typically agree to. Battle System: Almost everything on-map in Canvas is evented, including the battle system. Use an assortment of pixel-based attacks and abilities to dispatch your enemies in a variety of ways. You can anger them with arrows, stun them with bombs, throw them into each other with gusts of wind, and more! Each on-map enemy was carefully crafted with its own behavior, movement style, and methods of attack to provide the player with challenging and often thought-provoking encounters. Your on-map weapon will change appearance based on the weapon you have equipped. Features: Character swapping - each with their own unique "tool" and advantage/disadvantages when it comes to combat (Weapon range, attack speed, etc.) A variety of shared tools/abilities acquired throughout the game, useful for combat and puzzle solving. 25. Hey, so recently I started making a game and I wanted to incorporate a puzzle in which the player pushes 3 barrels across a river to make a bridge. That would allow the player to use the barrels to get across and, therefore, have access to the other side. However, I have no clue how to even start with this. I have looked up tutorials on how to do this but the only pretty helpful one that I found had imgur images and they were broken, which means I couldn't see the event pages in the first place :/ So, I'm sorry if it seems nooby, but I'd like to know how I could pull this off using things like switches, events and variables and preferably without a script. Any help on the topic is very much appreciated Images are helpful
