  1. Heya folks, after playing games, watching movies, seeing animations, and reading stories, I've noticed there seems to be a fine line between what's acceptable for developing characters, and what isn't allowed. before continuing these points, I do want to mention that developing takes time, work, perseverance, and even error. In addition, character development is like an art, there are multiple ways to go about one method, much like the styles of shading. I've dealt with my fair share of delevoping characters, the list stretching to 177, and while I may start from a random part of my imagination, I will repeat that that this is not the only way, but could be one way that may help you in the processes. Let's start off with a name. For the purpose of examples, I'll be using my character Rilumia. Your character's name should have a reflection to the style of names your world has, whether it be Japanese, English, Scottish, some self-created language, and so on. You will also want to avoid repeating certain name aspects, as this can get the reader/player confused on name pronunciation. For example, I have two dragons by the name of Rea and Rei. The only major difference in the last letter. Rea is pronounced "Re-uh", while Rei is, well, "Re." This alone can be confusing as you try to remember what character has what name. In some cases, however, you're able to get away with this. Twins, siblings, family names, and how the family's language works are a few of possibly many exceptions. Names should also have a reason to them. Rilumia used to be a demon, thus she has a multi-syllable name that is akin to the race of demons of Scalvose. Your next step is possibly going to be determining what the character likes and dislikes, along with the personality. Rilumia absolutely adores animals, so you can feel a soft spot in the character's overall context as she grows throughout the story of the book, piece, or game. You will want to avoid basing likes off of other characters until you finish everything that the character likes on their own terms. Let's set up a small sheet below, so keep a bit of formatting while determining the character's development. Name: Rilumia Likes: Animals, the ocean breeze, flowers, food, and long walks through the forests. Dislikes: Blood, sickness, fighting, sour candies, silence. (Note: You don't have to place these in a sentence-like format. This is my style of setting these up.) When it comes to what a character likes and dislikes, or love and avidly hate, and so on, they do not have to be polar opposites. You can have a soft-hearted man who lacks a backbone love heavy metal just as much as a kid loves candy. If the character loves sour things, they don't have to hate sweet things. For every like, it adds to the character if you can provide a reason behind why they like something. Rilumia loves flowers because she can utilize them as a defensive measure when she's attacked, and the ocean breeze makes her feel unbound from other mundane tasks. She's a cook, so food is something she would enjoy. Walks through the forest allow her to see animals and plants, which increase her enjoyment down to the earth. The same goes for dislikes. Rilumia is a bit of a germaphobe, so she will definitely dislike getting sick or seeing blood, and while she isn't against injuring somebody to protect herself, if a fight is avoidable in any possible way, Rilumia will try to take that path. Disliking silence comes from her personality, which is our next subject. Personality: Sultry, gentle, adventurous, cunning, partially germaphobic, and slightly seductive. The character's personality has all rights to reflect their likes and dislikes, and don't let others say otherwise. You know your character more than the next guy down the street, so you ned to convey the reasons behind their personality. In addition, personalities can't be abstract, as they must be reflected in each word of the character in some way. However, you don't need to reflect every personality aspect in one line or word all the time. Sometimes the character can have enough mentality to know when to be mature and push their own feelings aside for a while. Or, like my character Darkness, can be complete morons and not understand much of what goes on around him, other than when he's hit for being perverted or making crude jokes. Their personality needs to exsist. Rilumia loves poking her nose towards the winds of a journey, and while she may be bothered by germs and the like, she's gentle and rarely shows her disgust. Though she doesn't mean to be, she has a seductive tone to her words sometimes, which irks others. Otherwise, being sultry, she has a passionate heart and to some, she does rather attract them. Blessings: Quick to protect those in need, Green thumb. Banes: Body scales are soft and fragile, very energetic. (Note: These can be called pros and cons, strengths and weaknesses, and so on.) Lastly, I want to talk about blessings and banes. These are things that the character excells and fully fails at, regardless of how strange they may be. Rilumia, once she fell in love with a dragon's scale, it eventually lead to her falling in love with the dragon, himself. Demon blood is severly malleable in terms of race, and thus her body started to slowly corrupt, or change into that of a dragon. She doesn't know if she still has enough demon blood in her to continue being changed, but she doesn't really care too much as it opened many new paths of life for her, whether in the form of strength, endurance, smell, and the list goes on. However, her true self is still present in her mind, which gives her a constant questioning on what has happened to her as time has gone. In term of the change, her scales are as soft as velvet, and can easily be removed like a bird feather. However, this doesn't stop her from being quick to shield blows aimed at innocent people. On the downside, the amount of energy in her body tends to keep her up at night a lot, forcing her to try and find ways to calm herself to sleep, like reading, seditives, and the old attempts of drinking warm milk. This is a basic outline to get started on fleshing out your characters, which I hope helps you all in need of it.   2. Of course, there has to be one on the forums. Introduction This is a simple counting game, with tiny little bit of RPG elements. The number represents our experience. Rules Rules are obviously simple Post a number higher by one than in the previous post. We start with level 0 and we will be leveling up for every 100 experience (posts). Random chatting in meanwhile is allowed, though keep the messages relatively short. Do not double post, unless the thread was inactive for 72 hours (three days). Lucifer and his Diablos Legion had almost won the war, but somebody from the Daegon Clan was appeared, and stood up against the entire legion, supernaturally undefeated. His name was Lahar. Later he claimed the Fire Throne and conquered the Demon World. Three thousands years later... Three great heroes are destined to save the Kingdom of Trilands from the evil Demon King, Lahar, who want to destroy the Human World for fun, indeed an evil plan of total destruction. But in the final dungeon, the heroes are defeated easily. It's strange, since the fate does the opposite of what the prophecy told the humans to believe : the destined heroes will prevail, no matter how strong the villain is. This questionable "destined" claims will be investigated by the Demon King himself, Lahar. +CHARACTERS+ +FEATURES+ Easy Leveling, Intense Battle You can build your skills & attributes without level-grinding. It's pretty easy to reach the maximum level for each character. Your victory throughout the battles will be determined by strategy, runes and how fast your reaction and determination. Fast paced Story with plot twist You'll have a crucial decision making and moral dilemma response that will affect the gameplay and the ending you'll get at the end of the game. Also there's a peripeteia when you reach a certain point in the game.   5. Since I can no longer promote it on the QT through my signature, I am just going to put it on the table. This is it, folks. This is what I’m here for. I am doing other projects for experience in the meantime. It might sound pretentious, but this is my love letter to vintage RPGs, Square, and the RM community as a whole, including Enterbrain and ASCII. It’s all the muse it filled me up with since my childhood, carefully distilled to create a single story. Deep down, at its core, Overworld is an intergalactic love story that focuses on three special characters who are all part of the same interstellar legacy. I slapped together some lore on the spot. Did the best I could, but it has layers that are just hard to properly set up all at once. The game narrative would cover it all and much more. LORE Long ago, the Denizens set forth into space. Orphans from a dead, forgotten planet in search of a new home. They discovered Tri World. A special planet comprised of three layers. Overworld, the surface and waters of the planet. Underworld, the hellscape beneath the surface of the planet. And Skyworld, an invisible paradise above the cloud canopies of the sky. They knew their arrival would be far too sudden and abrupt to promise a healthy, stable development of their relationship. Furthermore, they knew that they would never be the ones to live here. Instead of an occupation or invasion, they covertly collected DNA from the major races of Tri World and mixed it with some of their own, creating a male and female subject to carry their legacy, and in time, rule the planet with the people's support (this never comes up in our story, it was just a premise for why they are created). They would represent complete union, and contain the best of all races. This pair of souls was unlike any other in existence, containing mystical properties that entwine them together throughout time and space. When they die, they are reincarnated into new bodies birthed from random women all around Overworld. These souls are drawn to one another like magnets. Regardless of conditions, they always reunite, fall in love, and die together. Offspring were never able to be produced, and whilst waiting over generations, something went horribly wrong. A female subject killed her male partner in an act of premeditated murder. The connect was severed, and no male was born again, breaking the line. The Denizens population has withered away to one family. Desperate to fix the problem, they create a male clone at the moment of a new female’s birth, and send it down to Overworld. Backstory (Revealed later in game) Leeson is discovered on a shoreline by a fisherman and raised as a human boy. His green hair was unusual, so the fisherman’s wife routinely dyed it black. Leeson became a soldier and fought as a rebel in the Imperial war, but was inevitably drawn to his counterpart, who didn’t seem to be drawn to him because he couldn’t seem to find her. His search leads him to the legendary rebel frigate, Corsair. Leeson becomes a trusted ally of Captain Siegfried Blackheart (see my avi for reference), and his first mate, Rico Cortez. Several years later: Leeson is still searching for his partner, but unbeknownst to him, she dies prematurely of illness. The last Denizens, now much older, make one last attempt to make things right. Another clone is sent down. . . (Game Begins) Leeson is drawn to a shoreline whilst at port, and discovers a baby boy with green hair wrapped in a swaddle. Rico Cortez takes the boy as his own, naming him Xander Cortez. He grows up alongside Rico’s kids, Rio and Mia Cortez, and their friend, Leon Blackheart. Introduction The player will spend some time as Xander, Leon, Mia, and Rio as children, Rio being a pre-teen. You have a room on the Corsair you can decorate a little bit. The kids end up shadowing Siegfried, Rico and Leeson against instructions, so there is some dialogue and play as children. Seigfreid meets with another Captain and Imperials ambush the scene. Everyone is separated. The exact scene has had 3 different settings from a wharf to a warehouse to another ship, but: Rico is struck down, Siegfried is killed, Leon emerges, exposing the kids and throws a grenado that creates even more chaos, Leeson ushers Leon out of there, Rio storms the Imperials and is taken by them, Mia runs and Xander follows her. They reach the Corsair to find it being seized by the enemy. Xander steps up and gets Mia out of there. 13 years later: The player is now assuming the role of Xander and Mia, living in a quiet walled city in a far western nation still neutral in the war. They work as light weight Mercenaries for a local contractor. They take the soft jobs none of the other mercs want to do, and the pay reflects it. After a few jobs and some development, a new job will cross their paths with a pair of familiar faces. . . Leon and Leeson. Shortly after the player gets reunited with the Corsair, and find their room is exactly as they left it. It’s not long before life on the Corsair brings them close enough to Imperials to meet Xander’s counterpart, Fera. She's a devout knight serving in the Imperial Infantry. Fate will bind their spirits and send them across all three layers of Tri World on a quest to save it from certain destruction at the hands of the Emperor’s latest and greatest weapon, Rio Cortez. He has been broken and manipulated by his captors, and now leads a vicious conquest to speed up the Emperor’s plans for world domination. You meet plenty of other characters, such as Vega Numera, a young, gifted inventor from the slums of Machine City, who is forced to collect scrap for his underprivileged family. GAMEPLAY I don’t have a fancy section prepared, but I aim to swing for the fences whilst keeping things appropriately neat and trimmed. Very open to input and co-development. The world and setting is supposed to be very endearing, rich with character, texture and lore. The one major thing I have developed for it is the crafting system, particularly the Invention category. Vega can build a Death Bot, a secret character, as one of the notable perks. The Corsair will also play a bigger role in gameplay than most ships. I was thinking Falcao’s tools system could be used to have live action world map battles whilst navigating the waters. That’s all for now. I may add stuff later.

    Hi everyone. I’ll try to keep this short and not too verbose. This project has actually been complete for about 2 months now, but since I tend to harbor feelings of self-doubt in things I do, I debated with myself as to whether it was suitable to be shared. Ultimately, I decided that it’s probably good enough. I welcome constructive criticism, feedback, and of course any bug reports are very much appreciated. Background “Light of the World” is my RPG project that I worked on over the past 2.5 years. Ever since I was a kid, it’s been a dream of mine to create my own game, so I’m happy that I finally could realize that dream. However, it would make me even happier if others could enjoy it, since that’s the whole point of video games! Because I’m not a programmer and not good at graphic design, I was fortunate to be able to work on my project with RPG Maker VX Ace. When I started making my game, I had two specific goals in mind. First, I wanted to compose all the music, and I wanted it all to be good. In my opinion, the best video games all have stellar soundtracks, so I put my absolute all into writing the music for “Light of the World”—and I hope it shows! Even if nothing else about my game is good, in the very least I hope my music is something that people can enjoy. My second aim was to write up a good storyline, and while I do think there are things I could’ve done better, I’m overall satisfied with the result. Here’s a quick rundown of some things you can expect: Language, alcohol, and one sexually suggestive part of the story; I’d say my game rates probably around “PG13,” though that’s just my opinion and I’m not in the business of ESRB ratings (So I'm not sure if this post would necessitate one of those "mature content" banners; my first instinct would be to say "no" but I'm not 100% familiar with the guidelines here on what qualifies as "mature") ~10 hours of gameplay Starts off kinda boring but it gets better (trust me) Closed-world RPG with minimal random encounters and a fixed level progression; no grinding needed Challenging boss fights Story-driven Decent variety of puzzles strewn throughout the game 42 original music tracks Lots of shoutouts and callbacks to oldschool games ranging from Resident Evil to Fire Emblem and everything in between Vanilla RPG Maker VX Ace assets are used because I’m not good with graphic design I also recorded a short 10-minute video describing my thoughts on my project, in case you’re interested in hearing.     Stack Level too Deep?

    Hey all. Was wondering if anyone could give me some help on this. On a recommendation I downloaded Mithran's Graphical Object Global Reference script. My game was suffering from rampant disposed window errors and I was told this could help. However, once I paste it into my scripts and then start the game, I receive the error message: SystemStackError occured Stack level is too deep i was reading the reasons why this might occur, but I don't have this script anywhere else. The Game Heartland is a narrative-based, story-rich, psychological-esque, linear RPG with a different take on battles. All the events of the game and your actions are narrated in a second person point of view by a narrator. Through him, you will get to know the mistery amongst Heartland—and you yourself. The game heavily focuses on atmosphere to engage the player into the narrative, relying upon a plethora of nature sounds, beautiful scenarios and excellent background music which will take you in a singular journey to the discovering of the very truth. Battles have a peculiar twist, in which classic commands such as "attack", "guard" and even "items" are completely removed. Instead, you will get to choose between physical (Swordplay) and magic (Sorceries) techniques, as well as the Remnants bequeathed from your enemies, as you defeat them. Each opponent is a boss-like fight, and you will have to find the best skill composition to a strategy in order to defeat your foes. Genre: ActionRPG, Adventure, Survival , Story with multi-endings Game Progression: The game is fully completed Recruitment: None Story / Setting / Purpose: *Describe the story and setting of your game in as much detail as possible. *If your game does not feature a traditional story or setting, then explain the premise behind the game and the goals the player must achieve. The story is about humans, about the strong one and a weak one and also about decisions. Some decisions could be made by the player but some others - by the strong ones and player could only deal with its consequences. The game has the Gothic-like dark fantasy setting, full of diverse people that represented specific guilds, cultures, businesses. The purpose is all about joining undefined yet story with the main character that is just facing the consequences of the others' decisions at the start but then - starting to write a story by himself. All this happens in the setting, full of humans of specific culture and behavior, doing different things in some certain way but each of it - at last is all about the same - the money and goods for them. Character Bios: There are no main characters except the player with undefined behavior. Features: 1. Action fighting system. Scrolls, range' and melee' weapon types included (about 50 overall) 2. Hunger-thirst-rest system. It cares that you don't think your character is a biorobot. There are also 2 hidden characteristics that fully depends on the player's decisions. 3. Crafting system. Its Gothic like and comprises food and weapon crafting. 4. Multiple story endings. According to the game designer, you have the main character's purpose and the obvious way to achieve it. Like you usually do. But this time you are the mind controller here, so who says the story must end one way? Studio's game designer envisaged it. 5.Kind of open world. Locations here as well as its inhabitants are part of the setting and you are the only one who can make them part of the story. So walk freely, there is gameplay besides the story.   24. Curious how difficult something like this would be. Where you have moves activate based on distance as well as percentages for hit success. Is RPG Maker really capable of something like this with coding? Maybe with a more dynamic camera so there isn't a split screen?
