How to show credits during gameplay

Tutorial topic: How to show credits during gameplay. Brief description: Have you ever watched a movie and seen how the credits pop up as the opening action scene plays out? People are talking, fighting, doing all the movie things, but the credits appear and vanish along the way without disturbing the flow of action. It's become such a common thing that movie critics actually criticize films that don't do their opening credits in this way. This method will allow you to have that in your game without scripts or even a lot of special skill! Requirements: Obviously, you will need RPGMaker VX Ace (this should also work with everything but MZ as it only requires that you have access to the built in battle animations tab). Beyond that, you will need a simple photo editing software like Photoshop. I use GIMP because it's free and relatively simple to use. You can technically do this with paint, but if you do, you will need to use another service to make the background transparent. Before I discovered GIMP, I used lunapic as it's free and all online. This is inferior to GIMP in my opinion, but it has the advantage of not requiring the download of a frankly massive program. TL;DR: You need an RPGMaker that has the animation tab (so any except for MZ) and you need a way to edit pictures while keeping them transparent. Step 1; The Credit: To begin, we need to take a random base from the animations folder of the RTP. We're not actually going to change it, but rather, we're going to use it as a template. I used Thunder4 because it's one of the larger bases with room for 25 animation panels. I advise making a copy and pasting it into another folder, then working on the copy so that you don't accidentally overwrite the base picture. Once you have it loaded up in your editor, erase everything so that the only thing left is the transparent background, As shown here: Choose a small corner of the template then, and insert the text you want! Don't worry about it being more than one animation panel. It probably will be larger than one, depending on how much you have to type. For my test case, I used a simple "A Game By Aslanemperor" Save, export, or whatever you need to do. Take any extra steps you may need to make the image transparent. This is standard with GIMP, and I hear that Photoshop makes this pretty easy as well. Once this is done, simply import this into your game using the built in Resource manager in RPGMaker. Step Two; The Animation: This part can get a little time consuming, but is still VERY simple. My example took up two panels worth of room on the template (out of a max of 25). As such, I took those two panels, and set them side by side over where I wanted them to go. The animation system makes this very easy as everything is designed to lock neatly into place, so as long as you pay attention, it will be a simple matter to make everything look good. Now we figure how long you want your credit to show itself, and where you want it on the screen. For this example, I placed mine directly in the center. When you're putting together your frames, keep timing in mind. 1 second is equal to roughly 30 animation frames. Because of this, I set up the fade in to last through the first 26 frames, then had it hold solid for another 45, followed by a more rapid 15 frame fade out. I did this by right clicking each individual panel and adjusting the "Opacity" number. Because I wanted this to be close to a full second of fade in, I added 10 points to the value on every frame, making it go fully Opaque at frame 26, with a value of 255. This is why it can be a bit time consuming. Once you know what you're doing, however, it doesn't take long to put these together. It took me just over 5 minutes to put everything for this animation together. You'll notice that there's a box for the animation beyond just the scope of the target. That box represents your screen. Depending on where you want this to show up on the screen, that's where you'll place your animation box. For instance, if you align it with the top left of that box, it will show up on the top left corner of the screen. Step Three; Implementation: So, you've made your "Credits" animation, and you're ready to place it. The way I did it, was to have an event along the path the player has to follow, and when they walk over that area, it triggers the credit animation. I set the animation to be centered on the player. This way, it keeps on showing in the area I want as he walks: Don't forget when making your event that you want to set it to end after the player has walked past it. Also, DO NOT click for it to wait if you want your character to continue doing things while this shows. Conclusion: So, I found this entire process to be extremely easy, and can be done with things that anyone has access to (you can even manage this with just paint and a web browser). It's a unique way to put your credits into your game without a clunky opening video (which usually requires some sort of video editing software). If you have any questions, or you know an easier way to pull this off, I'm happy to hear it. I hope this helps someone!
  2. TALES OF ÁGARIS SYNOPSIS Rumors have speculated on the possibility of a frightening creature emerging. Indeed, may religious texts had spoken of the demon's arrival, and some rumors were based on such prophecies. However, the efforts of Lars, among the elite soldiers of King Grimfur's army, has helped to make the emergence a grim reality. Meanwhile, the efforts of three soldiers work for world peace. They had established themselves in Ágaris, and other portions of the world. One of their stated tasks to to revive Rion. King Grimfur has a secret confidence for Rion to become in composition of the ever-grown armies of darkness. With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, it is up to you, intrepid heroes, to defeat evil! CONNECTION This game is a prequel to Heroes of Time, set 1000 years before the events of said game. The events here would approximate the "Middle Ages" of the game-world. IMAGES/SCREENSHOTS SECTION B: CHARACTERS Elliot The main soldier of Agaris. Focused on his goals, determined and self-confident. The only one who suffers from the interference of time in the future, having flashes in some parts of the game. His hometown is Zahul, where his mother currently lives. Louis Elliot's colleague and friend. Insightful, sarcastic and unique boy. The wizard of the group, with his arsenal of white and black spells. Born in Ágaris, where he still lives. Kary A centered elf, just like Elliot. A legitimate archer, down to earth and determined. She has a slight crush on Elliot. An adventurer who is called to replace Lars among the king's soldiers Lars Ex-soldier of the king (position of Elliot and co.), However when he became a high-class soldier he decided to deceive royalty to achieve his goal, which is to resurrect gorgos from the depths of hell. Gorgos An extremely powerful being, which is in his "eternal" rest in the depths of hell .... for now .... Rion Former prince of Aqala, he lived in times of war and was killed by a dragon inside a cave. However, the game gives you the opportunity to relive it. It is optional, but very important depending on your choices in the game. SECTION : STORYLINE/PLOT Like was said. This game occurs at the year 1130. And "Heroes of Time" will occurs in the same world, but in the future, in 2130. May we have interferences from the past? Who knows Credits DOWNLOAD LINK
  3. I don't know where to start. I am currently using RPG maker and I could have sworn I have posted about this a thousand times, but I seem to keep losing the thread I've made in regards to this. I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times anyway because I had done a search for this on and off for about a year or so and end up with the same results. Though I did manage to find a way around it, but because I am using scripts I am receiving script errors. Well, one in particular. There's a script error for Galv's region effects. As it is shown here it has something to do with the PadConfig. Right where is highlighted is what the error is showing me and so I don't know what sort of changes I need to make to get this script working again. Galv's Region effects is there for tile special effects on character movements like the splashing in water or the dust trail on the road. I would like to be able to keep these effects in the game if at all possible. Help in this would very much appreciate it.
  4. Ardenian Legends: The Fall of Arcana 1,000 years have passed since the cataclysmic closure of the gateway that feeds arcane energy into the world of Ardenia. The events of the past have become all but forgotten to humans, its legacy left within the many treacherous ruins scattered across the countryside. Civilization has once again rebuilt itself, but with arcane energy unknowingly becoming a limited resource, the ability to channel arcane energy into spells, the art of Arcana, becomes harder and harder with each passing year. In light of this realization, many humans begin to turn to developing new technology to assist in their daily lives. Because their influence is wading and their way of life will soon be a lost art, the Ordo Arcana, which has been the most powerful guild in Ardenia for the last thousand years, begin secretly planning one last desperate gambit to keep the art of Arcana alive. It is only a matter of time, however, before a new group rises up to challenge the old ways and forever shift the balance of power in Ardenia. A new chapter in Ardenia's history is about to begin! Visit the Ardenia Project website here. Bug reports and general feedback can be sent to ardeniaproject@gmail.com Current Version: v0.4.0 RTP and sprites at the moment are just placeholders and will be replaced as assets are finished. You can download the latest open prototype here.

No one knows the orgins of the essences (most don't even believe they exist), but researchers know that they have something to do with the Cruxis sword (known as the crystal sword to the humans). An evil essence is on the verge of awakening the last possessor of the Cruxis sword, an ancient human king named Demilos, whom wishes to put the entire world and its kingdoms under his rule. The planet (Ooroborys) considers Demilos a threat to its existence, so it has subtly chosen 4 humans to fight against this parasite (without their prior knowledge). You control our 4 heroes as they travel the world and its kingdoms, fighting to keep Demilos from awakening. Characters: Traiye: is an optimistic 16-year old boy from Ralin villiage, a small villiage in the Labimine forest. He made contact with the planet one day with his friend Primera at an Auroa (the games take on magical energy) deposit, giving both of them powerful latent aura's (the games take on magic). He can also be hard-headed and a little introvert with his feelings. Primera: is more on the pessimistic side, but she is still light hearted with a good attitude, even though she can be a little smart-alecky at times. She, like Traiye, made contact with the planet through an Auroa deposit and gained the ability to use her latent aura. Aalani: is a knight captain of the ancient Shandelean civilization. She was the person tasked with killing Demilos in the first place, but only managed to seal him in his own weapon. Upon hearing about the re-awakening process of Demilos in the future, she volunteered to be put to sleep until that time to warn the people of the present of Demilos' awakening. Kymshi: is a knight of the modern Shandelean military that assists our heroes under orders from the king of Shandel. Researchers have been experimenting on Kymshi using the latest techniques in Auroa developments, making him imperative to the team. Credits: I scoured the internet, looking for any and all the free for commercial use resources that I could find, so my list of credits is pretty long. These include graphic resources like tilesets, character sprites, window skins, battlers, and icons and music resourses. I made sure to credit everyone whose resources I used in a text file and the games ending credits. 8. I need some help with the whole Parallax mapping thing. I'm wanting to know how I can animate autotiles on the map after I've turned it into a parallax. I kinda know what i'm doing with parallax mapping right now but it's the water I'm stuck on and I'd rather not have to redesign my maps so that the water doesn't go over the pictures Is it possible for someone to link me to a tutorial that explains animating autotiles in parallax mapping?
  9. I don't know where to ask this... But I don't know where to go... I've already made a game, but I used default tilesets. I'm doing a remastering of the game, but I want to use a new tileset to make my game look more unique. I've already made a hundred maps for it and it would be hell having to recreate every single map... So, is there any tileset that uses the same layout and everything but with better designs? But, I'd prefer it to keep the theme of the tiles (like if it's a desert tile on both tilesets, orif its a brick wall on both)
  10. So I have been trying to decide if I truly want to convert one of my projects from VX Ace to MV for a bit now. I like the database for MV better along with the stacking on the maps, but I have done so much already with the said project in VX Ace. Below are screen shots, the first few from VX Ace and the others from MV, don't worry they are labeled. Just based off of the screen shots, which do you like better? Also all of the maps were made with the same tile sets. VX Ace MV
  11. Welcome to Toby's Island, a 90's style RPG that follows the story of Toby, a boy whose lineage destines him to defend an island from a terrifying darkness imprisoned at the islands core. On the journey you will craft tools and potions, farm plants, fish...fish, and collect monsters while you repair and upgrade a village, meeting new friends and overcoming an evil that your predecessors never could. The intention of this game is to appeal to fans of the pokemon franchise, but expand on both the story telling and gameplay. The game revolves heavily around resource/item collection, explores serious themes and prides itself on hidden passageways, events and easter eggs. You may remember seeing a post about this project a while back in 2014. Visually the game has been rebuilt almost entirely, leaving only the menus and a few odds and ends behind. I am also very close to a demo that I would love to show everyone. <--- social media icons made by Galv.
  12. Hey everyone My name's Grey, and I'm looking to return to the RPGmaker community. I'm familiar with RPGmaker VX, but new to Ace. Just bought it off Steam, and I've been playing around with it. It all looks great! I'm hoping to help with some projects, and maybe start my own. I can do some reviews, help with some ruby scripting, and I'm okay at mapping. I'm a little late to the RPGmaker VX Ace scene, I'd like to know how it's poppin' these days. That's it for now. See you guys around. Peace!

  16. Darkness Ascension is a game created for Rpgmaker Vx Ace. The game was done in just 22 days to participate in the Indie Game Contest 2014. It was made by me, some friends tried to help me, but I could not implement or add the game what they did, unfortunately, at run time. Because of the little time to miss the deadline... I'm planning a remake of this version soon, I will make it better and add some new features and skills, and also a better narrative and more types of scenarios and new map design. I hope that you can enjoy the game and tell me what I could make better in a new update. The Story of Darkness Ascension Halbert Halfgrand was the heir of a legendary dynasty, descendant of the founders of the kingdom of Taldorn in the island of Hossus. When reached sufficient age, he decided to be a priest, not giving heed to his father and disowns the post that is his by inheritance, the title of Taldorn lord protector. He studied hard in another region, Highrock, more precisely in the temples of Callen and Wasgramor. Started to become obsessed with the god of Darkness and outraged by the existence of his servants, who acquired minor powers in exchange for their souls and learn to use tricks that the gods prohibit to mortals. Halbert took the decision to join the knights and priests began their training. For years he trained to kill mages, to capture them and kill them, their training was cruel, but he achieved his ultimate goal: become a killing machine, full of tricks and ruses to defeat opponents that would be almost equal to the gods. For years he worked for the Templar Knights and their order of witch hunters. Hunting and torturing a lot of suspects of devotion to the dark arts, and his life was devoted to the church until he received a letter, his father was dying. Halbert asked permission to leave his temple and departed on a long journey to Taldorn. Upon arriving in the capital, was approached by soldiers of his father that gave him an arrest warrant. Halbert did not accept it, and then fought bravely for his life, until he was wounded and be unconscious by a knight's attack. Halbert woke up and open his eyes, seeing just darkness. They left food and water every day, but never gave him a word. He was just about to go crazy, but his obsession for revenge, not left him to perish, began to train his body waiting for opportunity, and to be as healthy as possible when he finds the opportunity to escape. After a long time being locked up in that dungeon, Halbert sees a man in a hood and hear words of hope. But Halbert has experience of years analyzing lies in the eyes of his victims, and the guy did not seem sincere, something was wrong at that visit. The man approached with drawn sword, Halbert pretended not to notice until he arrived at a proper distance, Halbert broke his arm and killed him breaking his neck, grabbed his clothes and then thought that it was the time that he waited so long throughout their time in captivity. And then the game begins. (Sorry for the English and if you encounter some grammar errors, please send me the corrections to do...) 18. Genre: RPG Theme: Mystery, Adventure Progression: Demo will be release as soon as I finished Chapter 1 of the project(which will probably be next year). Okay... so, It's my first time posting a game, so I have no idea on what am I doing. I just read and followed the instructions. Uhh... well, let's do this! “Mikashuo and the Secrets of Mount Mikatsu†is based on a Role Play with the same name. The Role Play went inactive, so I got bored and decided to make an RPG out of it. So... yeah, there are a whole bunch of people participated in developing the game(story-wise), so I’ll be placing their names respectively. This project is only my pastime. Expect irregular updates. No links available
  19. -Awesome title logo made by rgangsta I’ve been working on lots of games and each one of them seemed great...at least in my head. However, the projects were all too big for me (big worlds with lots of characters and many complicated scripts) and of course I couldn’t finish any of them. So now I’m making a small game trying to keep it as simple as possible so that in the end I can say that I’ve actually made something. So I’m here posting it in hopes that I’ll get some good feed back and constructive criticism. Game Progression:I'm at the begining Maps:Made first and only city, first dungeon and a bit of second and third(There'll probably be seven dungeons) Story: 50% Scripting:100% but knowing myself I'll probably add more Eventing:All done for the first dungeon Demo should be out soon......

    Question about RPGmaker VX Ace?

I need to know: What is the size of the item need to fit in the game? What is the size of one sprite?
  21. I really need to update this logo, it's a holder until then. Finally lets get into the actual RPGmaker VX Ace game I have been wanting to work on. Starting off with the story, the features I hope to get, and the main cast of the tale. Innominate takes place in Lobithia, Zul country. Story: Zul, a country in Lobithia was wracked in a war between the humans who inhabitated it and the Furins who did the very same. The Furins began to become agressive over the land, attempting to force out all the other races out of Zul...but this isn't the story that we're following! Rather at the same time, there's a wannabe thief by the name of Ludwig attempting to travel to Tol but ends up getting stuck in the country thanks to all the boats being stuck. After nabbing his families heirloom he plans to go off and make a name for himself as the greatest thief around to compeate with his older siblings who are all in fairly highranking jobs. One day after deciding to travel to Upper Zul to catch a boat out to Tol, he stumbles across a large egg. This is pretty much a story about a wannabe thief trying to make a name for himself while avoiding his older siblings who are chasing him for stealing the hierloom. Characters join along side him out of curiosity, forced, or because they're heading the same path as him. Features Want: -Each character to have thier own on map skill (smashing rocks for puzzels for an example) -Leader swapping -Camp system/inn where you have the option to go to an area to talk to the other main characters (similar to BoFIII or DA:O) -Swapping characters in battle -A story based around characters and their development. -Each character getting their own arc. -Puzzels! -A simple alchemy system. Characters: There are a total of six party members that join along for the party, and all have thier own map skills (If I can figure it out) to solve puzzels or find items. There's also two secret characters. Ludwig Ansgar Age: 23 Race: Human/Volan Class: Thief/Bum Weapon: Daggers, short swords, throwing objects. MapSkill: Loot A loud, confident, positive thinking, dreams of becoming a thief, self centered young man. He drags people into his situations attempting to using them as shields. Ludwig believes that he can talk people into doing anything for him, and that everything will work out for him okay no matter what. He finds a large egg by pure chance, and when it hatches he becomes rather protective over the contents. Fion Reethar Age: 28 Race: Human/Bian Class: Merchant/Warrior Weapon: Spear, axes MapSkill: Rock Smash Fion is a flirty merchant who tries to smooth talk her customers like any good sales person is. When she's not 'working' she is still rather a sly smart woman, level headed with hardly a temper to speak of. She is able to chuckle at Ludwigs louder personality, and is the type to follow through with a promise she makes. She never lies about her merchandise, and makes sure she only sells the best quality for the logical price. Topper Age: 19 Race: Curan Class: Alchemist/Slave Weapon: Claws MapSkill: Magic Dispell A Curan slave whom is very quiet saying very little unless spoken to. He grew up as a servant and was eventually gambled off after a drunken bet. Toppers previous owner was an alchemist, and he worked very hard on helping them out to create potions, so he still remembers how to create potions. He has no issues with being a slave, since it's all he's known. Vee Bluefoot Age: 32 Race: Furin Class: Duel Wielder/Ex Captain Weapon: Sword, dagger, short sword MapSkill: Climb A short tempered Furin who is apart of the guard, after a certian situation she loses her position and is trying to get her ranking back. She has very little pacients for people, often wanting to prove her strenght by violence. Vee can be very bossy and demands respect, attempting to often take the lead. Shun Makoto Age: 25 Race: Arcana Class: Mage/Bard Weapon: Guitars, lutes MapSkill: Jump Shun is a gentle kind hearted Arcana who worries and fusses over people very often. He knows a number of spells from his time in the school in Mar and has decided to travel to learn about the new race of the dragons that started appearing. He takes the time to learn more about history and current events, thanks to his personal interests. Shun lets his concern and caring nature get the best of him, often getting him into trouble for helping out people who outright lie to him using the naive kindness against him. Egil Ansgar Age: 0 Race: Dragon Weapon: None Mapskill: Burn A baby dragon that was hatched from the egg that Ludwig found. She's just a baby dragon and doesn't officially take part in the team until much later. But her simple and happy personality is there from day one. Crits and any other opinions are always welcome, and once I actually get screenshots I'll post in the Project Development department (since I read that you -have- to have screenshots... and well I don't have any thanks to not having the program yet XD)
