Hello, First of all I apologize if it's not the good place to post my questions. I managed to make a game to show it to my pupils and now I'm willing to create a game for them when they are at home. I'm pretty sure that a mmorpg is not the best way to do it but I was wondering if there were a way to share some informations between the character they build at home and the one they have in class. So here's what I would like : - the character at home and in school is the same - when you earn xP at home it will increase xP at school (or the teacher can see anytime pupils' xP) - when you earn xP at school it will increase xP at home (or the teacher can send xP from another way, using sheets for example) - you can recruit "copies" of the classmates' characters to do quests (so the other character are also updated at home) and the copies dont' get xP (I can do without by making copies before releasing the game but that would be less attractive Do you think it's possible with or/and without making it a MMO RPG ? Do you know some plugins I could use ? Thanks for reading ! PS : As an extra, I would like to share this game with my colleagues, would it be possible easily ? PS2 : I'm french so my English can be terrible sometimes ...

I'm not sure where to begin... I got this idea from one of my writing ideas about a scientific corporation that turned certain people into robohuman hybrids for military use. This is different, though... And the rest of it came from this dream I had... A game about a post-dystopian world where robohumans are despised by most of the population. The remaining robohumans are trying to fit in with society, under the disguise of completely normal humans. You are a robohuman high school student, trying to fit in with the human students without being discovered. Game over upon being discovered by five students, two teachers and the principal. One person knows what you are. This one person is willing to help you. This one person does not count for the score towards game over. Some students don't immediately count towards the five and may try to either help you or hinder you. Now, I don't have a name for this writing-inspiration dreamed-up game, so help there would be lovely. If you have any suggestions for more robotic actions, let me know! So far, I have this idea that you could end up responding to questions robotically, but I need more than that. I was thinking, if you get into a scuffle with a student or something, that your sleeve could ride up and reveal an arm. Dependent upon the student, this could cause problems... If you have any ideas, let me know! I'm always open to suggestion!

Not to be anti-intellectual or anything, but I do sometimes question the wisdom of actual academic ideas of video game design. Partly because serious academic interest in the subject still seems like a relatively new thing, but also because I sort of worry it may be too reductionist. The world of video games is now more then ever right in the middle of sort of redefining it's self and what a video game can be, and I am not sure if the formal teachings really mesh with the reality right now. Let's take a example. The game Portal was based heavily on a game designed by students. Now Portal is a great game, and I don't think anyone would argue about that. But Portal seems to be a product of a very formal idea off how games are made and what a game is. I have seen quite a few student games that follow the same kind of idea, you take a single mechanic, work out the implications of that mechanic, and design the whole game around that. Which is fine, it works and lets you explore a mechanic to it's ultimate end. It's neat and tidy. But I think it would be a mistake to design all games that way. As a counter example, let's look at Dwarf Fortress. It's a messy messy game. The UI is a mess with lots and lots of menu options and keyboard shortcuts. The gameplay involves tons and tons of mechanics haphazardly thrown in for no other reason then because the designer can. And yet, while it would be wrong to say it's an objectively better game then Portal, in my eyes it's at least a more interesting one. And then we have Minecraft which sits somewhere in the middle. And we have lots of art games witch exist totally outside the whole spectrum. My point is this: I am just not sure how much game design classes actually tell you about the vast world of game design and all of it's many incarnations. I am too old to take them myself, and don't have the money anyway, so I guess I will never know. There is a heck of a lot going on in game design that seems to go outside the formal patterns. I guess this is probably true of literature and film studies too though, so it probably isn't anything new to say that. Really, if you ask me, the whole collage system is practically a scam anyway, at least in the USA. It just costs too much money and doesn't do enough to prepare people for the real world. But that is a whole other problem that I have been rambling about for years. And also the whole job market.

Hey guys guess whaaaat ? Well, the title says it pretty much: Im finally done with exams ! So I will finally have the time to work on my horror projects and Im suuuper pumped ! However, I had a problem. My PC "passed out" and now I don't have any computer (right now Im on xbox 360's internet browser.. which sucks, I won't lie). So for my "A Short Horror Story" project I guess I'll have to wait. What a perfect timing, uh ? However, I will still be lurking on the forums pretty much everyday If I have the time. 'cause everybody has an IRL life after all. Oh well, nearly everybody, actually. So yeah, I'll still be around but I won't be really "active". Just a little question: Was the website down yesterday ? Or I was the only one who tried to log on every 10 minutes to see if it the website was back ? So yeah, I wanted you guys to be updated. Until next time, ~ Jay ~
