Often in my dreams I tend to run into the same basic dream idea again and again. Usually these dreams are connected in subtle or obvious ways with other, to the point where it almost could be said a lot of them exist in almost the same continuity. Well unless I dreamed that I remember it too anyway, sometimes it's hard to tell? But I am pretty sure I have had this kind of dream I just had before many times. The basic idea behind this particular dream is that of a smallish world that behaved almost like an online game or virtual world, or maybe even a web site or forum. It's rules were often managed and it's land created and maintained by an administrator who had nearly godlike power to do whatever they liked, and usually lived in a tall tower overlooking everything. Some administrators were good, but a number were selfish and only interested in using their power for their own amusement. Some were human and some were closer to AI programs. The twist was, more or less, that often times hardly anyone inside the world, often not even the administrator, was aware that their world was not all their was to reality, that their was an outside world beyond it. Often their would would literally just be contained in some large computer system in the outside world. The odd thing though is that their world isn't really "virtual" so to speak. There world is an actual real/physical place (as much as a dream can be said to be anyway) that they retreated to that is simply controlled by technology. Why people decided to transport themselves inside such a space (sometimes with no obvious way back) depends. Some times the outside world is dead or dying and these custom pocket dimensions are all that is left. Sometimes they were just convinced it would be a cool game to play. Often a common plot was the need to replace a selfish and/or incompetent administrator with a new one, requiring people to sneak in the tower where the administrator holds up, often the last place with obvious links to the outside world, and either through some loophole or backdoor, or sometimes escaping the virtual world entirely and interacting with the real one, over throwing the old one (note: I have had this dream since forever and I don't mean to imply distrust of administrators in general, much less the ones here). Outside the simulation often partly takes the form of some apartment somewhere filled with computer systems and wires running on automatic, or sometimes strange outer dimensions after the fall of man, if it is accessible at all. This particular outside for the one I just dreamed during my nap was larger and more industrialized though, and there was this huge subplot of harvesting animal brains, testing them for self awareness or interesting mental quirks, and using them to do something related to a dreamworld. Wetware computers? Making a better an artificial administrator? I am not sure. I kind of woke up soon after that.

Get Unveil on Steam Summary Experience Survival in it's purest form. Unveil delivers a rich recreation of Nature with a deep simulation of Weather, Body, Flora & Fauna, Fire and more. Energy preservation Every object you pick up, every tool you craft, or even shivering to low temperatures, will consume Energy. Fish, trap or harvest food to ingest and recover Energy. Some nourishments must be cooked to become edible. You can survive without eating for many days. But you can't survive with no energy left to move forward. Hydration Your body spends water to function, but also to sweat for dissipation to cool you off on hot environments. Rehydrate by drinking water off ponds, coconuts, collected rain water, and many more creative ways to find water. As you dehydrate, your body will fail to cool you off and, if it runs out of water to function, it will shut down. Body Temperature High temperatures result in higher hydration loss from sweating, while low temperatures can cause sickness. Take baths to cool your body off, or start a campfire to warm up. Craft coats to protect from rain, or preserve your body temperature. Failing to cool off leads to a heat stroke, from which you may only wake up if your body cools off before dehydrating. Extreme cold temperatures cause hypothermia, disabling your body from proper functioning and eventually leading to death. Hi guys! An idea recently came to my mind and I wanted to have some feedback about it. There are many ways to become the King, the one and only supreme leader of the land. Which one will you use? Become a hero of war and have the people cheer for you and replace the bad old King with you? Or take control of the army and plan a coup d'état to take the throne for yourself? Both of these seem complicated... Maybe there are some easier way. But wait! Wouldn't it be easier if you were born a noble than if you were born a bastard in the woods? Well, what situation is our hero in? It's up to you to chose! Background story acting as a difficulty, you can start off as a noble, a peasant or a bastard raised by thieves and other criminals. As you understood, the game would basically only have a single goal, which is to become King. I do not really have a setting in mind, but it could be fantasy-like or more realistic, it wouldn't affect the core concept. The game might include some other difficulty changers, like political situation, absence or presence of a war, presence or absence of heirs, etc. (or they might be fixed, or random) So, what do you guys think? I know it would be pretty hard and long, but I'm sure it would be fun to work on. Thanks! P.S. The idea is heavily inspired by a game called The Escapists.

Although I'm experienced in programming (I work on Unity so I'm very fluent in C# and Java), I'm tempted to start working with RPGMaker for an idea I've had for a while now. If anything it'll be a proof of concept that I can easily share before I attempt to publish the game (likely in Unity seeing as RPGMaker is unable to port to other mobile aside from PC). In any case, as the title suggest the game is primarily a simulator. It still takes place in a generic fantasy rpg setting (heroes, classes, exp, level, etc.) but those instead of being the generic MC, you play as an one of the NPC. A Blacksmith, Innkeeper, etc. A simulator where you basically make a living supplying theses 'heroes'. Now there will be bits of actual rpg elements for the player, like leveling up as a blacksmith, but I'd like to know if a game focused on being a simulator is possible to develop on RPGMaker. I suppose I shouldn't say "possible", I'm sure it is, rather is it feasible? I'm well aware that they'll be intense scripting needed, I'm no stranger to that. If anybody has any experience trying to make a simulation game (not counting dating sims, just too different), please give your thoughts or tips on how I should go about doing this. Or if anybody have stumbled or played a simulator game built on RPGMaker, please refer them to me with a link is possible. Thank you ~Zai

More indepth post here. I have made a survival type game before, but it was only with one player. However, after looking at the Banished game, I've been wondering how possible it would be to do on a 2D rpg maker engine. One of the biggest drawbacks I see right now is that it will require a mouse script that will make events follow where you click, or a path finding script that will make one event walk towards another event. I've looked through the RPG Maker game list, and I did find one game that involved a construction and building type system, which is called Mayor (City). Has anyone else tried making a game similar to this? Or are currently making a game similar to this? I have tried to, but so far, I haven't been able to find the script that will make events follow the mouse, so I'm at a standstill until I can see if one exists. Also, what are things that you would like to see in these types of games, if you're interested in them? And what are things in these games that annoy you and you wish would be left out? If you want to read up more on some other games in this genre, here is a list of them.

This is a very long overdue tutorial for my Baby System Tutorial. Since that thread is really old, I wasn't sure if I should add this to that tutorial or if I should just make a new one. This is a suggestion that was made a while back ago. In order to understand this, please follow my Baby System tutorial first. I will show you two ways to have your child take over. Firstborn Takes Over In this, it's very simple. Make a conditional branch under the Baby System one. Next, change the trigger to parallel process and make a switch called Death. Now, you will make a conditional branch and put Baby 1 ID = 3 and inside the else statement put Baby 1 ID = 4. Then in that else statement you will put Game Over. What this does is check to see if you have a child. The Baby 1 = 3, if you remember, is the boy. The baby 1 = 4 just means that the baby is female. This also makes sure that if the baby is 1 or 2, that you will get a game over since the child is still too young. You can change this by just putting Baby 1 greater than or equal to 1. Doing so will make it so that the child will take over even if he/she is still a baby. Next, we need to have it so the child is linked to an actor. This is so that the child will actually take over if you die. To do this, make a new Actor and make a blank space for the child. Now we need to make the child grow up once you die. To do this, go back to your common event tab and inside the conditional branch for Baby 1 ID = 3, remove Ralph and then change actor graphic to what you'd like. Then add the new actor you created. After that, set the Baby 1 ID to 0 and turn the Death switch off. You will do the same thing for the female. This is how it should look so far: That is it for making the first born take over. However, what if you have twins and you don't want the first born to take over? Or you want to have a will that decides it for you? Taking Over Via Will This will be exactly like the first born, but we will have a new variable. This will be called Will. You will make a conditional branch in the common events and if the Will is equal to 0, then the first born will automatically take over. If the Will is set to 1, then the first born was chosen to take over. If the Will is set to 2, then the twin will take over. This is how I set mine up: And that is how you make it so you can choose which child will take over once you die. Other Tips Now that you have both the Baby 1 and Twin in your actor database, you can actually prepare your child for becoming an adult. You can also name your child as well. One option you can do is teach your child skills, and add the skills to the Actor as you would if it were a party member. Once your child takes over, he/she will have the skills taught. You can also create a school to send your child off to in order to learn certain skills as well.

Day One - Acquiring the necessary stuff's to create the beginning of the game
FleshRenderStudios posted a blog entry in Master of The Forge - Development Blog
Development Blog First Entry:- Hey there guys and gals just figured I would try out a new method of game development which is writing a blog as I walk through the process of making my new game Master of the Forge, A game about running a successful blacksmithing operation via the tasks of Blacksmithing, Mining for precious metals and gems, learning new recipes and processing methods, management of resources, management of staff (may be added later but may be added straight away also ) and completing requests from soldiers, mercenaries, kings, queens and common folk alike, Maybe even a god or two Just so you know this game will not be taking it self too seriously there will be a feeling of comedic value although some may not get the sarcasm and funny jiggery pokery it will be there in places Anyway, We shall start off by collecting all the resources that I need graphically for creating my first map, The Forge - Interior.
